To get a clear knowledge of the level ofsuburbanization of Nanjing, and to keep a sober andrational head in China's vigorous movement of 'pushingthe urbanization process actively', this article makes anappraise of the level of suburbanization of Nanjing fromtwo respects of industry and population, on the basis ofdefining the concept of suburb and suburbanization.Using the newest data of the fifth national census, it ishoped that the study may be helpful to the urban plan-ning and administration in Nanjing.
