Energy budgets for new construction

In support of a performance (energy budget) energy conservation standard, this paper explores by means of computer simulation, the variation of energy consumption in schools, with such factors as occupancy, size and location. Computed results are compared with recorded consumptions. A method of calculating and specifying energy budgets is presented. The use of energy budgets for energy conservation standards is discussed.The work described, though relating specifically to schools, has general relevance to other building types.
