In the compilation of the plan for old town renew,we must survey the actuality information of all buildings in these zones.The actuality information of all buildings is a relative macro work,its main detail includes building property,housing layers,building structure,construction period.Because the amount of building in Wuhan is huge,we can＇t conduct field surveys one by one under lacking of the database of housing status.So the only road is collecting all kinds of materials,such as the DRG（1∶2 000 scale）,the cadastral map（1∶500 scale）、the map for planning inspection（1∶500 scale）、the historic DRG.Then we should synthetically utilize GIS data,and mine these data,and classify the information,and make the thematic maps.All these work is aid to help to workout the plan for old town renew.
