REVIEW ON URBAN INTERNAL SPATIAL STRUCTURE IN THE WESTERN LITERATURE AND ITS ENLIGHTENMENT

Urban internal spatial structure refers to a composite pattern of urban areas, which include demographic changes, the distribution and changes of urban economic function, and urban social spatial types under given social and economic conditions and the background of some driving forces. This paper makes a review on the research of urban internal spa- tial structure in the Western literature from four as- pects including the population and urban internal spatial structure, the internal spatial structure of ur- ban economy, the internal spatial structure of urban society, suburbanization and new suburbanization. Finally it analyzes the enlightenment of such research to China.
