Rockery, as an important part of the heritage of classicalgardens, is an especially vulnerable element in the sightseeingbecause of its distinct material, structure, building technology andother changeable conditions. The rockery in The Mountain Villawith Embracing Beauty serves as an example of ancient Chineseart of rock-piling. Being the key heritage within this particulargarden, the rockery herein calls for special scientific and effectivemonitoring. Therefore, this paper argues that the monitoring ofthe rockery should adopt a more systematic methodology, andcross-field and cross-discipline approaches, and integrate differenttechnologies and more research-based and comprehensive methods,so as to build up a sound system for wise and effective monitoringof the rockeries in classical gardens
