This paper discusses the preparation of cationic rosin size and its application in the neutral or weakly acidic pH range. As the practical application, it is necessary to add the cationic acrylic copolymer emulsion as the dispersing agent, and the PAE can be used as the special retention aid for the cationic rosin sizing. Another usable retention aid and dispersing agent is the cationic acrylic resin emulsion which is helpful for the adsorption of rosin acid onto filler by the action of bridge connection, then the retention and anchoring size takes place with the existing of alum.
