Abstract: | Lithium-ion battery, which has a great successful application in the portable electronics, is believed the most promising power source for electric vehicles and wearable devices. Moreover, it also has a great potential in application of mass energy storage. As the anode material of lithium-ion battery, spinel lithium titanate (Li4Ti5O12) has been intensively studied as a promising alternative to graphite, given to its high potential during charging and discharging, excellent cycling stability, and high thermal stability and safety, which are associated with its zero-strain character. In this review, the structure and performance of Li4Ti5O12 were introduced briefly. The mechanism of lithium inserting, synthetic and modification methods for Li4Ti5O12as anode material for Lithium-ion battery were reviewed, and the effect of synthetic and modification methods on electrochemical performance such as charge and discharge capability, cycle performance of Li4Ti5O12was analyzed. The influencing factors and possible mechanism for gassing behavior in battery working process and the suppressing methods are briefly described. Moreover, suggestions on the prospect of the application of electric vehicles (EVs) in China are also put forward in this review. |
