This paper describes dynamic modeling and simulation results of a small wind–fuel cell hybrid energy system. The system consists of a 400 W wind turbine, a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), ultracapacitors, an electrolyzer, and a power converter. The output fluctuation of the wind turbine due to wind speed variation is reduced using a fuel cell stack. The load is supplied from the wind turbine with a fuel cell working in parallel. Excess wind energy when available is converted to hydrogen using an electrolyzer for later use in the fuel cell. Ultracapacitors and a power converter unit are proposed to minimize voltage fluctuations in the system and generate AC voltage. Dynamic modeling of various components of this small isolated system is presented. Dynamic aspects of temperature variation and double layer capacitance of the fuel cell are also included. PID type controllers are used to control the fuel cell system. SIMULINKTM is used for the simulation of this highly nonlinear hybrid energy system. System dynamics are studied to determine the voltage variation throughout the system. Transient responses of the system to step changes in the load current and wind speed in a number of possible situations are presented. Analysis of simulation results and limitations of the wind–fuel cell hybrid energy system are discussed. The voltage variation at the output was found to be within the acceptable range. The proposed system does not need conventional battery storage. It may be used for off-grid power generation in remote communities.  相似文献

In this paper, a hybrid Photovoltaic (PV)-fuel cell generation system employing an electrolyzer for hydrogen generation is designed and simulated. The system is applicable for remote areas or isolated loads. Fuzzy regression model (FRM) is applied for maximum power point tracking to extract maximum available solar power from PV arrays under variable insolation conditions. The system incorporates a controller designed to achieve permanent power supply to the load via the PV array or the fuel cell, or both according to the power available from the sun. Also, to prevent corrosion of the electrolyzer electrodes after sunset, i.e. when its current drops to zero, the electric storage device is designed so as to isolate the electrolyte from the electrolysis cell.  相似文献

This paper deals with a new hybridly powered photovoltaic- PEM fuel cell – Li-ion battery and ammonia electrolyte cell integrated system (system 2) for vehicle application and is compared to another system (system 1) that is consisting of a PEM fuel cell, photovoltaic and Li-ion battery. The paper aims to investigate the effect of adding photovoltaic to both systems and the amount of hydrogen consumption/production that could be saved/generated if it is implemented in both systems. These two systems are analyzed and assessed both energetically and exergetically. Utilizing photovoltaic arrays in system 1 is able to recover 177.78 g of hydrogen through 1 h of continuous driving at vehicle output power of 98.32 kW, which is approximately 3.55% of the hydrogen storage tank used in the proposed systems. While, using the same photovoltaics arrays, system 2 succeeds to produce 313.86 g of hydrogen utilizing the ammonia electrolyzer system 2 appeared to be more promising as it works even if the car is not in operation mode. Moreover, the hydrogen produced from the ammonia electrolyzer can be stored onboard, and the liquefied ammonia can be used as a potential source for feeding PEM fuel cell with hydrogen. Furthermore, the effects of changing various system parameters on energy and exergy efficiencies of the overall system are investigated.  相似文献

A dynamic model for a stand-alone renewable energy system with hydrogen storage (RESHS) is developed. In this system, surplus energy available from a photovoltaic array and a wind turbine generator is stored in the form of hydrogen, produced via an electrolyzer. When the energy production from the wind turbine and the photovoltaic array is not enough to meet the load demand, the stored hydrogen can then be converted by a fuel cell to produce electricity. In this system, batteries are used as energy buffers or for short time storage. To study the behavior of such a system, a complete model is developed by integrating individual sub-models of the fuel cell, the electrolyzer, the power conditioning units, the hydrogen storage system, and the batteries (used as an energy buffer). The sub-models are valid for transient and steady state analysis as a function of voltage, current, and temperature. A comparison between experimental measurements and simulation results is given. The model is useful for building effective algorithms for the management, control and optimization of stand-alone RESHSs.  相似文献

A solar-hydrogen system is a kind of stand-alone power system (SAPS), which can supply low energy dwellings with energy. With TRNSYS (a transient system simulation program) it is possible to perform parametric studies to find possible system configurations for different climates and loads. The systems simulated in this study consist of a photovoltaic (PV) cell array, an electrolyzer, a hydrogen (H2) storage, a fuel cell, a catalytic burner, a lead-acid battery, DC/DC converters, DC/AC inverters, diodes, a solar collector, and a water storage tank. The main equations for the PV cell, electrolyzer and fuel cell are provided, while the other models are only briefly described. Simulations are performed for conventional low energy dwellings located in northern latitudes and results for different system configurations and operation schemes are given. The results show that the size of the solar-hydrogen system for a conventional low energy house located in Trondheim, Norway (63°N), needs to be quite large. This is mainly due to the somewhat high energy requirements assumed, but also due to the low insolation available. Simulations of the same dwelling located in lower latitudes, in more favorable climates, and/or with lower energy needs (e.g., future dwellings), show how the size of the solar-hydrogen system can be significantly reduced. The study also illustrates the importance of minimizing the thermal and electrical loads before designing a solar-hydrogen system for energy self-sufficient buildings.  相似文献

An experimental solar-hydrogen powered residence simulator was built and tested. The system consisted of a solar photovoltaic array connected to an electrolyzer which produced hydrogen as a means of energy storage. The hydrogen was used to produce electricity in a fuel cell that operated in parallel with a battery to meet dynamic power demand similar to that found in residential applications. The study demonstrated the technical feasibility of operating such a system under the simultaneous dynamics of solar input and load. Limitations of current fuel cell and electrolyzer designs, as they pertain to both power delivery and energy storage, were identified. The study also established the need to understand and address dynamic performance in the design and application of solar-hydrogen reversible fuel cell hybrid systems. An economic analysis found that major cost reductions would need to be achieved for such systems to compete with conventional energy storage devices.  相似文献

Solar thermal systems are an efficient utilization of solar energy for hot water and space heating at domestic level. A Solar Water Heater (SWH) incorporating an Evacuated Glass Tube Collector (EGTC) is simulated using TRNSYS software. Efficiency parameters are pointed, and a parametric optimization method is adopted to design the system with maximum conceivable efficiency. In the first part, the selection of refrigerant for heat transportation in SWH loop is presented. A set of 15 working fluids are chosen, and their chemical properties are computed using NIST standard software (REFPROP). The selected working fluids are tested in the system under study and plots for energy gain and temperature are plotted using TRNSYS. Results showed that ammonia (NH3) having specific heat 4.6kJ/kg-K and fluid thermal conductivity 2.12 kJ/hr-m supplies peak energy gain of 7500 kJ/h in winter and 8900 kJ/h in summer season along 120 °C temperature rise. On the other hand, R-123 having specific heat 0.65kJ/kg-K and fluid thermal conductivity 0.0293kJ/hr-m showed inferior performance during the simulation. A solar-hydrogen co-generation system is also designed and simulated under low solar insolation and warm climate regions to study annual hydrogen produced by the hybrid system. System comprises main components: a PV array, an electrolyzer, a fuel cell, a battery, a hydrogen storage unit and a controller in the complete loop. Results of Hydrogen cogeneration system provide 7.8% efficiency in the cold climate of Fargo North Dakota state due to lower solar insolation. While hot climate condition of Lahore weather provides efficiency of 11.8% which satisfy the statistics found in literature.  相似文献

In this paper we present firstly the different hybrid systems with fuel cell. Then, the study is given with a hybrid fuel cell–photovoltaic generator. The role of this system is the production of electricity without interruption in remote areas. It consists generally of a photovoltaic generator (PV), an alkaline water electrolyzer, a storage gas tank, a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), and power conditioning units (PCU) to manage the system operation of the hybrid system. Different topologies are competing for an optimal design of the hybrid photovoltaic–electrolyzer–fuel cell system. The studied system is proposed. PV subsystem work as a primary source, converting solar irradiation into electricity that is given to a DC bus. The second working subsystem is the electrolyzer which produces hydrogen and oxygen from water as a result of an electrochemical process. When there is an excess of solar generation available, the electrolyzer is turned on to begin producing hydrogen which is sent to a storage tank. The produced hydrogen is used by the third working subsystem (the fuel cell stack) which produces electrical energy to supply the DC bus. The modelisation of the global system is given and the obtained results are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Hydrogen fuel for fuel cell vehicles can be produced by using solar electric energy from photovoltaic (PV) modules for the electrolysis of water without emitting carbon dioxide or requiring fossil fuels. In the past, this renewable means of hydrogen production has suffered from low efficiency (2–6%), which increased the area of the PV array required and therefore, the cost of generating hydrogen. A comprehensive mathematical model was developed that can predict the efficiency of a PV-electrolyzer combination based on operating parameters including voltage, current, temperature, and gas output pressure. This model has been used to design optimized PV-electrolyzer systems with maximum solar energy to hydrogen efficiency. In this research, the electrical efficiency of the PV-electrolysis system was increased by matching the maximum power output and voltage of the photovoltaics to the operating voltage of a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, and optimizing the effects of electrolyzer operating current, and temperature. The operating temperature of the PV modules was also an important factor studied in this research to increase efficiency. The optimized PV-electrolysis system increased the hydrogen generation efficiency to 12.4% for a solar powered PV-PEM electrolyzer that could supply enough hydrogen to operate a fuel cell vehicle.  相似文献

In this study, it is aimed to meet the annual electricity and heating needs of a house without interruption with the photovoltaic panel, wind turbine, methanol electrolyzer, and high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell system. The system results show that the use of the 2 WT with 18 PV was enough to provide the need of the methanol electrolyzer, which provides requirements of the high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The produced heat by the fuel cell was used to meet the heat requirement of the house with combined heat and power system. Electrical, thermal and total efficiencies of fuel cell system with combined heat and power were obtained as 38.54%, 51.77% and 90%, respectively. Additionally, the levelized cost of energy of the system was calculated as 0.295 $/kWh with combined heat and power application. The results of this study show that H2 is useful for long-term energy storage in off-grid energy systems and that the proposed hybrid system may be the basis for future H2-based alternative energy applications.  相似文献

In an energy sustainability perspective, the renewables penetration is expected to importantly increase over the next decade, requiring modifications in the current electric system in terms of flexibility and reliability. In this respect, storage systems will play a central role and the production of green hydrogen is seen as a promising solution for both short-term and seasonal storage.In this context, the aim of this paper is the development of a methodology for the optimal design of hybrid storage micro-grids based on renewables and hydrogen and the definition of an optimal management strategy in a perspective of hydrogen employment as seasonal storage. In detail, an optimization code – based on mathematical models for each component and on specifically developed optimization strategies for the management of the components interaction – will be presented and applied to a case study. The code optimizes the sizes of the integrated electrolyzer and fuel cell, based on an objective function that maximizes the storage efficiency. It has been applied to the S.A.P.I.E.N.T.E. micro-grid installed at the ENEA Research Centre near Rome (Italy) – composed of photovoltaic panels, batteries, heat pump and thermal storage systems – obtaining the optimal design of the hydrogen section to be integrated as seasonal storage strategy. Furthermore, a parametric analysis on the battery size has been performed. The application of the developed optimization routine resulted in the introduction of a 3.7 kW electrolyzer and 4 kW fuel cell coupled with 36 kWh of battery capacity, enabling a total hydrogen production of about 87.5 kg (corresponding to 1159 kWh of electricity produced during the thermal year).  相似文献

Decentralization of electrical power generation using rooftop solar units is projected to develop to not only mitigate power losses along transmission and distribution lines, but to control greenhouse gases emissions. Due to intermittency of solar energy, traditional batteries are used to store energy. However, batteries have several drawbacks such as limited lifespan, low storage capacity, uncontrolled discharge when not connected to a load and limited number of charge/discharge cycles. In this paper, the feasibility of using hydrogen as a battery is analyzed where hydrogen is produced by the extra diurnal generated electricity by a rooftop household solar power generation unit and utilized in a fuel cell system to generate the required electrical power at night. In the proposed design, two rooftop concentrated photovoltaic thermal (CPVT) systems coupled with an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) are used to generate electricity during 9.5 h per day and the extra power is utilized in an electrolyzer to produce hydrogen. Various working fluids (Isobutane, R134a, R245fa and R123) are used in the ORC system to analyze the maximum feasible power generation by this section. Under the operating conditions, the generated power by ORC as well as its efficiency are evaluated for various working fluids and the most efficient working fluid is selected. The required power for the compressor in the hydrogen storage process is calculated and the number of electrolyzer cells required for the hydrogen production system is determined. The results indicate that the hybrid CPVT-ORC system produces 2.378 kW of electricity at 160 suns. Supplying 65% of the produced electricity to an electrolyzer, 0.2606 kg of hydrogen is produced and stored for nightly use in a fuel cell system. This amount of hydrogen can generate the required electrical power at night while the efficiency of electrolyzer is more than 70%.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel strategy, optimized by genetic algorithms, to control stand-alone hybrid renewable electrical systems with hydrogen storage. The strategy optimizes the control of the hybrid system minimizing the total cost throughout its lifetime. The optimized hybrid system can be composed of renewable sources (wind, PV and hydro), batteries, fuel cell, AC generator and electrolyzer. If the renewable sources produce more energy than the one required by the loads, the spare energy can be used either to charge the batteries or to produce H2 in the electrolyzer. The control strategy optimizes how the spare energy is used. If the amount of energy demanded by the loads is higher than the one produced by the renewable sources, the control strategy determines the most economical way to meet the energy deficit. The optimization of the various system control parameters is done using genetic algorithms. This paper explains the strategy developed and shows its application to a PV–diesel–battery–hydrogen system.  相似文献

This paper presents a comparative study of four sizing methods for a stand-alone hybrid generation system integrating renewable energies (photovoltaic panels and wind turbine) and backup and storage system based on battery and hydrogen (fuel cell, electrolyzer and hydrogen storage tank). Two of them perform a technical sizing. In one case, the sizing is based on basic equations, and in the other case, an optimal technical sizing is achieved by using Simulink Design Optimization. The other two methods perform an optimal techno-economical sizing by using the hybrid system optimization software HOMER and HOGA, respectively. These methods have been applied to design a stand-alone hybrid system which supplies the load energy demand during a year. A MATLAB-Simulink model of the hybrid system has been used to simulate the performance of hybrid system designed by each method for the stand-alone application under study in this work. In this paper, the robust capability of HOMER and Criteria-COPRAS is deployed to explore the prospect of selecting a renewable energy system. The energy system consisting of wind turbines, solar photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), electrolyzer, hydrogen storage, and battery energy storage is intended to power a residential load in Lagos Nigeria. Based on the economic metric, the results show that the optimal system is a PV-Battery whose total net present cost (TNPC) and initial investment cost are $9060 and $3,818, respectively. However, if the energy systems are ranked based on multiple criteria (economic, technical and environmental aspects), the most preferred of the feasible energy systems is a hybrid PV-FC-wind-battery (TNPC-$10,324, initial cost: $7670). The study results indicate that, for viability in the adoption of hydrogen energy storage as part of the hybrid energy system, the selection metric should be based on more than one criterion.  相似文献

Low-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) acts as a promising energy source due to the non-pollution and high-energy density. However, as hydrogen supply is a major constraint limiting the wide spread of fuel cell vehicles, a dimethyl ether (DME)-steam on-board reformer (SR) based on catalytic reforming via a catalytic membrane reactor with a channel structure is a possible solution to a direct hydrogen supply. The DME-SR reaction scheme and kinetics in the presence of a catalyst of CuO/ZnO/Al2O3+ZSM-5 are functions of the temperature and hydrocarbon ratio in the hydrogen-reforming reaction. An electric heater is provided to keep the temperature at a demanded value to produce hydrogen. As there is no available analysis tool for the fuel cell battery hybrid vehicle with on-board DME reformer, it is necessary to develop the tool to study the dynamic characteristics of the whole system. Matlab/Simulink is utilized as a dynamic simulation tool for obtaining the hydrogen production and the power distribution to the fuel cell. The model includes the effects of the fuel flow rate, the catalyst porosity, and the thermal conductivity of different subsystems. A fuel cell model with a battery as a secondary energy storage is built to validate the possible utilization of on-board reformer/fuel cell hybrid vehicle. In consideration of time-delay characteristic of the chemical reactions, the time constant obtained from the experiment is utilized for obtaining dynamic characteristics. The hydrogen supplied by the reformer and the hydrogen consumed in the PEMFC prove that DME reformer can supply the adequate hydrogen to the fuel cell hybrid vehicle to cope with the required power demands.  相似文献

The development of remote, renewable-based energy is hindered in part by the lack of affordable energy storage. Requiring power-on-demand from an energy system powered by intermittent or seasonal sources may necessitate one-month’s energy storage—an expensive proposition using conventional storage technologies. If multiple energy storage devices with complementary performance characteristics are used together, the resulting ‘hybrid energy-storage system’ can dramatically reduce the cost of energy storage over single storage systems. The coupling of conventional storage batteries with emerging hydrogen technologies provides one such hybrid system. Hydrogen energy storage in this context includes an electrolyzer, hydrogen storage tank, and a fuel cell. An additional component that must be considered is the control system that determines when the various components are used. Since the control system has an effect on component sizes and thus system and operating costs, the control algorithm must be carefully considered for any system with energy storage. For this study, a time-dependent model of a stand-alone, solar powered, battery-hydrogen hybrid energy storage system was developed to investigate energy storage options for cases where supply and demand of energy are not well matched daily or seasonally. Simulations were performed for residential use with measured solar fluxes and simulated hourly loads for a site at Yuma, Arizona, USA, a desert climate at 32.7 N latitude. Renewable-based power not needed to satisfy the load is stored for later use. Two hybrid energy-storage algorithms were considered. The first is a conventional ‘state-of-charge’ control system that uses the current state of the storage system for control. The second control system presumes knowledge of future demand through a feed-forward, neural net or other ‘intelligent’ control systems. Both algorithms use battery storage to provide much of the daily energy shifting and hydrogen to provide seasonal energy shifting, thus using each storage technology to its best advantage. The cost of storing energy with a hybrid energy-storage scheme was found to be much less expensive than either single storage method, with a hybrid system storage costing 48% of the cost of a hydrogen-only system and only 9% of the cost of a conventional, battery-only system. In addition, the neural-net control system is compared to a standard battery state-of-charge control scheme, and it is shown that neural-net control systems better utilize expensive components and result in less expensive electric power than state-of-charge control systems.  相似文献

Under the background of extensive improvement of renewable resources and demand for reliable emergency power supply, we proposed a hybrid energy storage system including an electric double-layer capacitor bank and a hydrogen system which is composed of fuel cell, electrolyzer, gas tank and metal hydride tank. Through its integration with photovoltaic power sources in a local direct current grid, we expect to obtain both of stable energy source at ordinary times and long-time reliable autonomous emergency power supply when outages happen. A three-day demonstration of the proposed system was performed. The fluctuation compensation performance of the components and the long-time stable power supply obtained by the entire system were evaluated at first, hence the configuration and the management methods of the proposed system were verified in the autonomous emergency power supply application. Meanwhile, the performance of the hybrid use of the gas tank and the metal hydride tank in the system was preliminarily evaluated, for its effectiveness verification on reducing auxiliary power for temperature condition of the metal hydride tank. Moreover, we investigated the distribution characteristics of the power and energy loss in the electric double-layer capacitor, electrolyzer and fuel cell, and their correlation to the efficiency characteristics under different conditions during the operation. The investigation results showed that the continual low-load-ratio state of the electrolyzer and fuel cell led to the low efficiency, the rare high-power occurrence of the electrolyzer and fuel cell led their demanded excessive power capacity. Thus, we proposed a solution method of shifting the electrolyzer and fuel cell's load to the EDLC, when the electrolyzer and fuel cell are in low-load-ratio and excessive high-power state, in order for efficiency increase and facility capacity reduction.  相似文献

为了评价燃料电池混合动力系统能量管理策略的经济性,对基于状态机和模糊逻辑2种能量管理策略的燃料电池混合动力叉车的价值损耗进行分析。首先,通过分析燃料电池和锂电池的工作特性,分别构建依赖实际工况的燃料电池单体电压衰减率模型和锂电池容量衰减率模型;同时定义计及燃料电池氢耗量的燃料电池混合动力系统的综合价值损耗指标。其次,通过测试叉车极限工况,计算燃料电池功率和锂电池容量,并根据母线电压确定锂电池SOC范围。最后,设计基于状态机和模糊逻辑的2种燃料电池混合动力叉车能量管理策略,并通过仿真分析在叉车一次循环工况下2种能量管理的价值损耗。研究结果表明:相较于模糊逻辑策略,采用状态机策略造成燃料电池寿命损耗提高7.81%,氢耗量提高1.89倍,锂电池寿命损耗减小21.33%。  相似文献

A fully-integrated micro PEM fuel cell system with a NaBH4 hydrogen generator was developed. The micro fuel cell system contained a micro PEM fuel cell and a NaBH4 hydrogen generator. The hydrogen generator comprised a NaBH4 reacting chamber and a hydrogen separating chamber. Photosensitive glass wafers were used to fabricate a lightweight and corrosion-resistant micro fuel cell and hydrogen generator. All of the BOP such as a NaBH4 cartridge, a micropump, and an auxiliary battery were fully integrated. In order to generate stable power output, a hybrid power management operating with a micro fuel cell and battery was designed. The integrated performance of the micro PEM fuel cell with NaBH4 hydrogen generator was evaluated under various operating conditions. The hybrid power output was stably provided by the micro PEM fuel cell and auxiliary battery. The maximum power output and specific energy density of the micro PEM fuel cell system were 250 mW and 111.2 W h/kg, respectively.  相似文献
