A mixed-signal integrated circuit implements 1120 analog memory points arranged in 16 independent fully programmable delay lines in a 0.8 μm CMOS technology. It demonstrates the feasibility of large scale mixed-mode circuits using the switched current technique. The die area of the chip is 72 mm2 and incorporates 16 rather large and complex analog blocks, which take advantage of special design techniques developed in order to keep power consumption at a reasonable level and to eliminate second-order effects due to long power and signal lines. At the nominal 64 MHz sampling rate, harmonic distortion is -48 dB, dynamic range is above 60 dB, and power consumption is 1.22 W from a single 5 V supply  相似文献

We develop analytical models to evaluate the performance of optical-burst switch (OBS) architectures employing fiber delay lines (FDLs) as optical buffers to reduce burst-loss probability. The performance of such architectures cannot be captured accurately using traditional queueing models, since FDLs behave fundamentally differently from conventional electronic buffers. We formulate a Markovian model to evaluate the system performance when the burst-arrival process is Poisson and the burst lengths are exponentially distributed under an idealized model of FDL behavior. The model accurately captures both the balking and deterministic delay properties of FDLs, but the complexity of the model makes it infeasible for solving problems of practical interest. By considering approximations of the model in the regimes of short and long FDLs, we develop relatively simple closed-form expressions that can be used for dimensioning OBS architectures. We also extend the approximate model to include the impact of FDL delay granularity. We present numerical results that validate our modeling approach and demonstrate that significant performance gains in optical-burst switching are achievable when FDLs are employed as optical buffers.  相似文献

A method is described for analyzing the two-dimensional behavior of minority carriers in a solid-state analog delay line by applying, without modification, existing computer-aided circuit analysis programs to a lumped model. Development of the model in two dimensions is based on an approximate solution of the minority carrier partial differential equation using an analogous electrical network. The model includes injecting and collecting junction nonlinearities and thereby permits the study of responses to arbitrary external excitations. This paper presents an investigation of the effects of laser diode noise on analog video transmission in the HF and VHF bands, which resulted in the development of several designs of graded-index multimode fiber systems that can ignore reflection induced laser noise. The contents of the investigation include: 1) The evaluation of intrinsic laser noise of various laser structures and the evaluation of modulation effects on laser diode noise characteristics. It was found that the relative intensity noise (RIN) is less than -145 ∼ -150 [dB/Hz] when the modulation factor is less than 0.7 for index-guide mode stabilized lasers; 2) The quantitative evaluation of reflected laser beam effects on laser noise characteristics. The maximum laser-coupled reflected optical power that does not increase laser noise was determined as-65 ∼ -73 dB or less depending on the kind of laser structure; and 3) The evaluation of optical power reflected back into the laser in graded-index multimode fiber systems.  相似文献

The radio frequency or microwave responses of single-mode fiber Fabry-Perot cavities and recirculating delay lines are studied. It is shown that fiber Fabry-Perot cavities may be used as bandpass filters and the recirculating delay lines as bandstop filters at radio or microwave frequencies. These electric filters are tunable by electrooptic effects since the bandpass or bandstop characteristic changes when the cavity or the delay line length is varied by a few tenths of an optical wavelength. The ultimate limit on speed of tuning is set by the coherence time of the light source. The dependence of the filter responses on the spectral purity of light is studied. Examples are given to illustrate the tunability of these electric filters. The availability of various components required to build the tunable RF or microwave filters is reviewed  相似文献

为了提高一种3bit可变光纤延迟线的延时精度,提出一种采用可调谐激光器作为系统光源的技术,利用光纤的材料色散特性即光纤的折射率随传输波长变化而改变的特点,来改变延时光纤中信号存储的时间,从而达到提高光纤延迟线延时精度的目的。仿真结果表明,采用该种技术的光纤延迟线系统,平均延时误差从4.1ps下降到了1.3ps,延时精度得到了显著提高。  相似文献

在光纤延迟测向激光告警系统中,光纤延迟线是用来连接光学接收系统和光电转换系统的.起到传输光、延迟光、对光信号进行编码的作用。由于光纤延迟线的长度不同,光学窗口接收到的激光脉冲产生不同的时间延迟.从而实现激光方位信息到时间信息的转变。光纤延迟线的长度对激光告警器的体积、光学损耗、虚警率等因素有着直接的影响,在此利用激光脉冲的相关特性,通过最优化理论对光纤延迟线进行排列组合.提出了光纤延迟线长度编码的优化设计方法,通过对相关理论的分析与计算.得到了一个全向矩阵的排列方式,从而得出了相应的排列原则。按照该原则对光纤延迟线进行排列组合,从理论上得到了最优的光纤延迟线总长度值,为激光测向告警器的优化设计提供了重要的理论依据。  相似文献

The effect of voltage-scaling on interconnect delay minimization by CMOS-repeater insertion is analyzed. Analytical models are developed to calculate the optimum number of repeaters as function of CMOS supply voltage. The analytically obtained results are in good agreement with SPICE extracted results. Analysis shows that voltage-scaling decreases power dissipation and the optimum number of repeaters required for delay minimization in long interconnects. Both resistive and inductive interconnects have been considered. At highly scaled voltages, the inductive interconnect has the advantage of lower power-delay product. It is also seen that voltage-scaling affects delay improvement due to repeater insertion.  相似文献

A 16-stage, fixed or variable analog delay line that makes use of integrated p-channel MOS field-effect transistors is described. The delay line relies on `sample' and `hold' techniques and makes use of the inherent characteristics of p-channel MOS transistors. The delay line provides unit gain with a dynamic range of 1 volt. The bandwidth of the delay line is 0.8 MHz under nonsampling conditions. The lowest sampling rate was found to be 50 Hz. A built-in capacitive compensation technique using signals opposite in phase reduces feedthrough of the sampling signal and final filtering requirements. Investigation of the problems of obtaining unity gain and dynamic range led to the development of a computer-aided analysis that provides a family of dc transfer characteristics of cascaded p- channel MOS `half-stages' when a variation of either a material or electrical parameter is made.  相似文献

A new type of unidirectional transducer is proposed and demonstrated. This transducer consists of three electrode groups, one on the bottom surface. An analysis of photon count statistics of noise in Raman fiber amplifiers and passive optical components is presented. The resuits are used for evaluating the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of Raman active recirculating delay lines. It is found that the quadratic dependence of the noise on the number of recirculations causes the SNR to decay with increasing optical delays. Ultimate system performance capabilities, as determined by the SNR quantum limit, are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we combine fiber delay lines (FDL) and optical wavelength conversion (OWC) as the solution for the burst contention problem in optical burst switching (OBS). We present a placement algorithm, k-WDS, for the sparse placement of FDLs at a set of selected nodes in the network. The algorithm can handle both uniform and non-uniform traffic patterns. Our extensive performance tests show that k-WDS provides more efficient placement of optical fiber delay lines than the well-known approach of placing the resources at nodes with the highest experienced burst loss. Performance results are also given to compare the benefit of using FDLs alone, OWCs alone, as well as a mixture of both FDLs and OWCs. A new algorithm, A-WDS, for the placement of an arbitrary numbers of FDLs and OWCs is presented and evaluated under different uniform and non-uniform traffic loads using network simulation of the NSFNET topology and randomly generated graphs. The paper is concluded by presenting the design of a cost-effective optical switch equipped with variable-delay FDL bank. Based on the switch design, a scheme to provide differentiated services for multiple classes of traffic is presented and evaluated.  相似文献

/sup A/ new approach to handle inductance effects for multiple signal lines is presented. The worst-case switching pattern is first identified. Then a numerical approach is used to model the effective loop inductance (L/sub eff/) for multiple lines. Based on a look-up table for L/sub eff/, an equivalent single line model can be generated to decouple a specific signal line from the others to perform static timing analysis. Compared to the use of full RLC netlists for multiple lines, this approach greatly improves the computational efficiency and maintains accuracy for timing and signal integrity analysis. We apply these models to repeater insertion in critical paths and find that, for a single line, the RLC model minimizes delay with fewer number of repeaters than RC model. However, for multiple lines, we find that same number of repeaters is inserted for optimal delay according to both the RC and RLC models.  相似文献
