The development in the field of computer graphics is determined particularly by the progress made in peripheral graphic devices. A graphical terminal should unite the advantages of vector with those of raster graphics; to enable the extensive use of excellent interactive techniques involving higher graphical productivity and low costs. The terminal describes fulfills these preconditions. Is is characterized by large picture structure and interactive communication capabilities at low cost. Training in the field of computer graphics usage is important for all engineering courses. Both in design and in production, as well as in technical marketing, graphic representations constitute an important means of expression for the engineer. In connection with the training of engineers, three directions of training can be discerned: basic principles of computer graphics, computer-aided design (CAD) systems with their design and application and employment of CAD systems as a new aid for the designer. Three interactive graphic computer programs are described which aid transportation planners in data analysis and display: (1) FLOWMAP, which enables the interactive design of flow maps at a computer graphics terminal using origin-destination data; (2) FLOGRAF, which graphically displays traffic flows along a network using color computer graphics, and (3) TRANES, a transit system analysis program that displays the number and type of potential transit users within specified access limits of transit facilities. Typical applications in transportation planning are suggested for each of the programs and recommendations are made for future enhancements. Readily available sources of data are suggested which can be tapped to provide input to the programs.  相似文献

Object-oriented techniques can be applied, in a natural way, to computer graphics. Traditionally, these techniques have been used for the design of graphic user interfaces, but recently, they have been applied to other computer graphic fields. This paper presents the design of a ray-tracing rendering program. This paper describes a facsimile-based graphics editing system using handwritten mark recognition, and presents some experimental results with the system. In a manner different from usual graphics editors based on CRT displays and data tablets, only facsimiles are used as input and output devices in this system. As the first stage in processing, a graphic subject is first given as a set of line drawings and characters handwritten on a sheet of paper, and it is then input into the computer as a binary picture from a facsimile transmitter. Auxiliary editing information is input into the computer as handwritten marks or seal marks prepared on a separate sheet of paper. As the second stage, the marks are recognized and used to create a mark parameter list for the graphics editing. Third, referencing the mark parameter list, the graphics are expressed by using a set of graphic commands, and edited by the computer. Finally, a correct edited copy of the graphics is constructed by picture processing based on graphic commands, and it is output to a facsimile receiver. Very good results have been obtained for various kinds of hand-written graphics by using the system described here.  相似文献

The last few years have witnessed a large increase in use of computer graphics to simulate the robotic performance. The utilization of graphic simulation and programming has greatly enhanced the design, control, and productivity of robotic applications, especially in manufacturing. When designing and controlling robotic systems, computer graphics can be used to evaluate how the robot will react to and perform within the production environment before significant time, capital, and expense are incurred. Graphic simulation enables the designer not only to select the right robot but also to program it to perform the task in the most efficient way. The purpose of this paper is to review the recent advances in graphic techniques and to evaluate available software packages for simulating the motion of robots. A theory exists that a graphic ‘transfer function’ of humans may be characterizable. A computer graphic terminal trained with an understanding of this function may be capable of identifying with a human and appreciably raising the potential quality of human/computer graphic dialog. An Interactive Computer Graphic Assisted Programming (ICGAP) system is described which uses computer graphics to aid in the construction of computer graphic programs, conveniencing interactive computer graphic experiments.The rich, relatively untapped fields of art and psychology deserve computer graphic science's attention. This paper assesses the state of the art in cost-benefit analyses of computer graphics systems and suggests an approach for developing improved methodology. Cost-benefit analyses are distinguished from analyses of system performance in that the latter is directed at optimizing system performance at a given level of investment, while the former is directed at justifying the investment itself.Computer graphic system design alternatives are first outlined. Then methods of analyzing the performance and costs of computer systems in general and graphic systems in particular are discussed. With this information it is shown how cost-effectiveness analyses may be performed. The next crucial step is to conduct benefit analysis, an ill-defined art. The results of benefit analysis must be combined with cost-effectiveness analysis in order to perform the desired cost-benefit analysis.An experimental methodology is suggested for better performing benefit analyses of computer graphics systems. A more rigorous formulation of the cost-benefit procedure is then outlined. No attempt is made in this report to actually perform such an analysis.  相似文献

Diagrams communicate massive amounts of information at a glance. Complex domains can be simplified and extended with diagrammatic notations. Computational systems can certainly benefit from the use of diagrams. However, graphic interfaces are difficult and time consuming to write. We need a way of shortening the graphic-interface building cycle so that it is relatively easy and fast to add a graphic interface to any application that may benefit from it.A general-purpose, graphic-interface-building tool kit that a designer or user, not a programmer, can use to design and attach graphic interfaces to applications can greatly speed up and lower the costs of adding graphics to systems. In this paper, I describe a new framework for interactive graphic interface design. The framework will enable graphic-interface-building tools which are general purpose, inter-active, and application-specific.The framework consists of a taxonomy (ontology) of visual properties that span sub-object properties, full objects, and the relationships between objects. The taxonomy forms a skeleton on which to hang methods for manipulating these visual properties, objects, relations, and composites. The methods consist of the generation of prototypes, the recognition of properties in objects, and mouse manipulation functions for modifying properties in an object. Further characteristics of the framework are that the properties are composable, that objects can be explicitly, incrementally described through repeated composition and application of recognition methods, and that the composition of properties to form more fully described and more complex objects is recursive. This makes the framework and the objects within it quite flexible, incremental, uniform, and modular.  相似文献

手绘图形输入是表达设计意图,实现抽象概念与具体图形间相互转换的自然而有效手段之一、提出并初步实现了一个面向方案设计、采用在线图形识别方法和相似性相关反馈技术的手绘图形输人工具.在线图形识别方法将用户输入的笔画经过图形预处理、特征识别、图形拟合和规整等过程,即时地识别和预测用户的基本图形构造意图;相似性相关反馈技术则在基本图形按其空间和时间关系组合后,利用图形构成及其空间关系与图形模板的相似性计算,及时地捕捉和反馈用户输入图形的组成意图.实验表明:该工具具有很好的基本图形识别效果和良好的用户交互特性,为方案设计工具的研究提供了新的思路.  相似文献
