Although described as a Guide, the 1984 design manual for foundation design forms part of the enforcement system of the Earthquake Resistance code in Japan. The Guide applies knowledge gained from recent unexpected experiences, notably the damage to prestressed high‐strength concrete (PHC) piles in the Off‐Miyagi earthquake without any effects from change in ground conditions, such as liquefaction. This review is by the Head of the Geotechnical Engineering Division of the Japanese Building Research Institute, who chaired the Working Party on the Guide.  相似文献

Public private partnerships (PPP) and private financial initiative (PFI) projects face the challenge of meeting unforeseen future risks. Life cycle cost estimate is a crucial part of PFI/PPP procurement. The traditional deterministic cost model can not take into consideration the uncertainty of future events let alone determine the contingency allowance for the projects. The large number of cost items in the life cycle cost model of building projects makes cost control difficult. Monte Carlo simulation method is applied to the Quantitative Risk Assessment of life cycle costing risk management. A PFI school project was chosen as a case study to demonstrate a new simulation approach to life cycle cost management. The lives and replacement cost rates of building elements are the inputs for the simulation model, while the cumulative life cycle cost are the outputs of the analysis. The sensitivity analysis revealed the cost significant items, which provides the most efficient way for cost control. The results of the analysis identify the high risk life cycle assumptions and provide a variation reference for the decision-makers to define risk and contingency allowance in PFI/PPP projects. The approach can also be applied to other types of building PFI projects.  相似文献

A diagnostic approach for the introduction of management information systems in medium-sized construction firms is proposed, through a selection of measures that take account of the characteristics of the change, the organization, its staff, resources and environment. Previous research suggests that a characteristic of the construction industry is a lack of technological innovation. Since this is seen as a problem, much theoretical development within construction management focuses on explaining the lack of innovation. Less effort has been expended on using such explanatory theories for investigating those rare exceptions in which construction firms succeed in the unlikely: successfully developing a new technology. This article makes use of the recently suggested framework by Dubois and Gadde. They describe the construction industry as a ‘loosely coupled system’ with four types of couplings, discuss why the particular mix of couplings in the construction system leads to a lack of innovation, and suggest types of couplings that construction firms should experiment with and change in order to boost innovation. A case study of a contractor developing a new technology is presented in terms of Dubois and Gadde's concepts and implications. The findings partly support and partly contradict their hypotheses. It seems that innovation is possible even if only a few of the existing couplings are changed. The most important changes relate to the tightening of intrafirm sequential inter‐project couplings enabling learning from project to project, and contract‐related couplings especially the design‐construction interface.  相似文献

In this study, we proposed a concept of virtual and real-field construction management systems (VR-Coms), which is integrated with virtual construction simulation, planning, scheduling, and performance management systems to evaluate productivity and safety in virtual simulated and real-field constructions. And, we built up a computational environment to develop the VR-Coms. The VR-Coms offer supporting modules for learning and discovering solutions with objective to manage construction at right speed with improved humanware and constructability. The configuration of VR-Coms is described. This paper also shows an application of agent theory to construction management.  相似文献

Explored in this paper is the topic of designing a construction management (CM) data visualization environment with emphasis on its use for supporting the time management function during the planning and execution phases of construction projects which are characterized by sizeable volumes of data of different types. A brief overview of recent construction data visualization work is first provided. Then, as part of a top-down design approach, we introduce concepts and useful terminology related to a structured way of thinking about analytical reasoning and visual analytics, and their relationship with construction management functions. The focus of the latter then shifts to how a construction data visualization environment can support project participant analytical reasoning needs for the management of time, specifically planning/predicting and monitoring/diagnosing/controlling construction conditions and time performance. A case study of aspects of an actual project examined using the construction data visualization environment developed to date is then presented. Purposes served include demonstrating the breadth of support that can be offered for reasoning by such an environment, and providing a test case for demonstrating the kind of evaluation process one should engage in to assess how well an environment conforms to the requirements set out for it. Time management functions treated for this case study include assessing quality of a baseline schedule, assessing actual vs. planned construction conditions and time performance, and assessing reasons for deviations. An evaluation of the current environment is then made to assess conformance/non-conformance with the requirements established for it and to identify worthwhile extensions to it. The paper concludes with a discussion of lessons learned from work performed to date, and their application to create a more comprehensive visualization environment that supports multiple CM functions.  相似文献

A procedure denoted as Line Sampling (LS) has been developed for estimating the reliability of static and dynamical systems. The efficiency and accuracy of the method is shown by application to the subset of the entire spectrum of the posed benchmark problems [Schuëller GI, Pradlwarter HJ, Koutsourelakis PS. The notion of design point excitation for non-linear systems is discussed and its use extended for reliability estimations of conservative non-linear MDOF systems considering critical conditional excitation.For solving the hysteretic MDOF system with uncertain structural parameters subjected to general Gaussian excitation, however, the general applicable subset procedure [Au SK, Beck JL.
