A novel Ru π‐expanded terpyridyl sensitizer, referred to as HIS‐2, is prepared based on the molecular design strategy of substitution with a moderately electron‐donating 4‐methylstyryl group onto the terpyridyl ligand. The HIS‐2 dye exhibits a slightly increased metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption at around 600 nm and an intense π–π* absorption in the UV region compared with a black dye. Density functional theory calculations reveal that the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) is distributed over the terpyridine and 4‐methylstyryl moieties, which enhances the light‐harvesting capability and is appropriate for smooth electron injection from the dye to the TiO2 conduction band. The incident photon‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency spectrum of HIS‐2 exhibits better photoresponse compared with black dye over the whole spectral region as a result of the extended π‐conjugation. A DSC device based on black dye gives a short‐circuit current (JSC) of 21.28 mA cm?2, open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.69 V, and fill factor (FF) of 0.72, in an overall conversion efficiency (η) of 10.5%. In contrast, an HIS‐2 based cell gives a higher JSC value of 23.07 mA cm?2 with VOC of 0.68 V, and FF of 0.71, and owing to the higher JSC value of HIS‐2, an improved η value of 11.1% is achieved.  相似文献

A ruthenium sensitizer (coded C101, NaRu (4,4′‐bis(5‐hexylthiophen‐2‐yl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine) (4‐carboxylic acid‐4′‐caboxylate‐2,2′‐bipyridine) (NCS)2) containing a hexylthiophene‐conjugated bipyridyl group as an ancillary ligand is presented for use in solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells (SSDSCs). The high molar‐extinction coefficient of this dye is advantageous compared to the widely used Z907 dye, (NaRu (4‐carboxylic acid‐4′‐carboxylate) (4,4′‐dinonyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine) (NCS)2). In combination with an organic hole‐transporting material (spiro‐MeOTAD, 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine) 9, 9′‐spirobifluorene), the C101 sensitizer exhibits an excellent power‐conversion efficiency of 4.5% under AM 1.5 solar (100 mW cm?2) irradiation in a SSDSC. From electronic‐absorption, transient‐photovoltage‐decay, and impedance measurements it is inferred that extending the π‐conjugation of spectator ligands induces an enhanced light harvesting and retards the charge recombination, thus favoring the photovoltaic performance of a SSDSC.  相似文献

A novel heteroleptic RuII complex (BTC‐2) employing 5,5′‐(2,2′‐bipyridine‐4,4′‐diyl)‐bis(thiophene‐2‐carboxylic acid) (BTC) as the anchoring group and 4,4′‐ dinonyl‐2,2′‐bipiridyl and two thiocyanates as ligands is prepared. The photovoltaic performance and device stability achieved with this sensitizer are compared to those of the Z‐907 dye, which lacks the thiophene moieties. For thin mesoporous TiO2 films, the devices with BTC‐2 achieve higher power conversion efficiencies than those of Z‐907 but with a double‐layer thicker film the device performance is similar. Using a volatile electrolyte and a double layer 7 + 5 μm mesoporous TiO2 film, BTC‐2 achieves a solar‐to‐electricity conversion efficiency of 9.1% under standard global AM 1.5 sunlight. Using this sensitizer in combination with a low volatile electrolyte, a photovoltaic efficiency of 8.3% is obtained under standard global AM 1.5 sunlight. These devices show excellent stability when subjected to light soaking at 60 °C for 1000 h. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and transient photovoltage decay measurements are performed to help understand the changes in the photovoltaic parameters during the aging process. In solid state dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using an organic hole‐transporting material (spiro‐MeOTAD, 2,2′,7,7′‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)‐9,9′‐spirobifluorene), the BTC‐2 sensitizer exhibits an overall power conversion efficiency of 3.6% under AM 1.5 solar (100 mW cm?2) irradiation.  相似文献

Ru(4,4‐dicarboxylic acid‐2,2′‐bipyridine) (4,4′‐bis(2‐(4‐(1,4,7,10‐tetraoxyundecyl)phenyl)ethenyl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine) (NCS)2, a new high molar extinction coefficient ion‐coordinating ruthenium sensitizer was synthesized and characterized using 1H NMR, Fourier transform IR (FTIR), and UV/vis spectroscopies and cyclic voltammetry. Using this sensitizer in combination with a nonvolatile organic‐solvent‐based electrolyte, we obtain a photovoltaic efficiency of 8.4 % under standard global AM 1.5 sunlight. These devices exhibit excellent stability when subjected to continuous thermal stress at 80 °C or light soaking at 60 °C for 1000 h. An electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study revealed that device stability is maintained by stabilizing the TiO2/dye/electrolyte and Pt/electrolyte interface during the aging process. The influence of Li+ present in the electrolyte on the device photovoltaic parameters was studied, and the FTIR spectral and photovoltage transient study showed that Li+ coordinates to the triethyleneoxide methylether side chains on the K60 sensitizer molecules.  相似文献

Photovoltaic performance of cross‐linkable Ru(2,2′‐bipyridine‐4,4′‐bicarboxylic acid)(4,4′‐bis((4‐vinyl benzyloxy)methyl)‐2,2′‐bipyridine)(NCS)2 (denoted as RuS dye) adsorbing on TiO2 mesoporous film was enhanced by polymerizing with either ionic liquid monomer, 1‐(2‐acryloyloxy‐ethyl)‐3‐methyl‐imidazol‐1‐ium iodide (AMImI), to form RuS‐cross‐AMImI or di‐functional acrylic monomer with ether linkage, triethyleneglycodimethacrylate (TGDMA), to form RuS‐cross‐TGDMA. Their cross‐linking properties were investigated by UV–vis spectroscopy by rinsing with 0.1 N NaOH aqueous solution. The power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with RuS‐cross‐AMImI and RuS‐cross‐TGDMA both reached over 8% under standard global air mass 1.5 full sunlight. The increased PCE for DSSCs with RuS‐cross‐AMImI comparing with cross‐linked RuS was attributed to the I counterion of AMImI increasing the charge regeneration rate of RuS dye, whereas that with RuS‐cross‐TGDMA was attributed to the Li+ coordination property of TGDMA. The photovoltaic performance of RuS‐cross‐TGDMA was also slightly better than that of RuS‐cross‐AMImI because of higher open‐circuit photovoltage (Voc) and short‐circuit photocurrent (Jsc). Its higher Voc was supported by the Bode plot of impedance under illumination and Nyquist plots at dark, whereas higher Jsc was supported by the incident monochromatic photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency spectra and charge extraction experiments. Two anthracene‐based star‐shaped conjugated small molecules, 5′,5″‐(9,10‐bis((4‐hexylphenyl)ethynyl)anthracene‐2,6‐diyl)bis(5‐hexyl‐2,2′‐bithiophene), HBantHBT, and 5′,5″‐(9,10‐bis(phenylethynyl)anthracene‐2,6‐diyl)bis(5‐hexyl‐2,2′‐bithiophene), BantHBT, are used as electron‐cascade donor materials by incorporating them into organic photovoltaic cells prepared using a poly((5,5‐E‐alpha‐((2‐thienyl)methylene)‐2‐thiopheneacetonitrile)‐alt‐2,6‐[(1,5‐didecyloxy)naphthalene])) (PBTADN):[6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) blend. The small molecules penetrate the PBTADN:PC71BM blend layer to yield complementary absorption spectra through appropriate energy level alignment and optimal domain sizes for charge carrier transfer. A high short‐circuit current (JSC) and fill factor (FF) are obtained using solar cells prepared with the ternary blend. The highest photovoltaic performance of the PBTADN: BantHBT :PC71BM blend solar cells is characterized by a JSC of 11.0 mA cm?2, an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 0.91 V, a FF of 56.4%, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 5.6% under AM1.5G illumination (with a high intensity of 100 mW?2). The effects of the small molecules on the ternary blend are investigated by comparison with the traditional poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC61BM) system.  相似文献

A study of the photo‐oxidation of films of poly[2‐methoxy‐5‐(3′,7′‐dimethyloctyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylene vinylene] (MDMO‐PPV) blended with [6,6]‐phenyl C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), and solar cells based thereon, is presented. Solar‐cell performance is degraded primarily through loss in short‐circuit current density, JSC. The effect of the same photodegradation treatment on the optical‐absorption, charge‐recombination, and charge‐transport properties of the active layer is studied. It is concluded that the loss in JSC is primarily due to a reduction in charge‐carrier mobility, owing to the creation of more deep traps in the polymer during photo‐oxidation. Recombination is slowed down by the degradation and cannot therefore explain the loss in photocurrent. Optical absorption is reduced by photo‐bleaching, but the size of this effect alone is insufficient to explain the loss in device photocurrent.  相似文献

Enhancing the efficiency and lifetime of light emitting electrochemical cells (LEC) is the most important challenge on the way to energy efficient lighting devices of the future. To avail this, emissive Ir(III) complexes with fluoro‐substituted cyclometallated ligands and electron donating groups (methyl and tert ‐butyl)‐substituted diimine ancillary (N^N) ligands and their associated LEC devices are studied. Four different complexes of general composition [Ir(4ppy)2(N^N)][PF6] (4Fppy = 2‐(4‐fluorophenyl)pyridine) with the N^N ligand being either 2,2′‐bipyridine ( 1 ), 4.4′‐dimethyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine ( 2 ), 5.5′‐dimethyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine ( 3 ), or 4.4′‐di‐tert ‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine ( 4 ) are synthesized and characterized. All complexes emit in the green region of light with emission maxima of 529–547 nm and photoluminescence quantum yields in the range of 50.6%–59.9%. LECs for electroluminescence studies are fabricated based on these complexes. The LEC based on ( 1 ) driven under pulsed current mode demonstrated the best performance, reaching a maximum luminance of 1605 cd m?2 resulting in 16 cd A?1 and 8.6 lm W?1 for current and power efficiency, respectively, and device lifetime of 668 h. Compared to this, LECs based on ( 3 ) and ( 4 ) perform lower, with luminance and lifetime of 1314 cd m?2, 45.7 h and 1193 cd m?2, 54.9 h, respectively. Interestingly, in contrast to common belief, the fluorine content of the Ir‐iTMCs does not adversely affect the LEC performance, but rather electron donating substituents on the N^N ligands are found to dramatically reduce both performance and stability of the green LECs. In light of this, design concepts for green light emitting electrochemical devices have to be reconsidered.  相似文献

By doping 2,7‐bis[4‐(N‐carbazole)phenylvinyl]‐9,9′‐spirobifluorene (spiro‐SBCz) into a wide energy gap 4,4′‐bis(9‐carbazole)‐2,2′‐biphenyl (CBP) host, we demonstrate an extremely low ASE threshold of Eth = (0.11 ± 0.05) μJ cm–2 (220 W cm–2) which is the lowest ASE threshold ever reported. In addition, we confirmed that the spiro‐SBCz thin film functions as an active light emitting layer in organic light‐emitting diode (OLED) and a field‐effect transistor (FET). In particular, we succeeded to obtain linear electroluminescence in the FET structure which will be useful for future organic laser diodes.  相似文献

A novel host material containing silicon‐cored spirobifluorene derivative (SBP‐TS‐PSB), is designed, synthesized, and characterized for red phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). The SBP‐TS‐PSB has excellent thermal and morphological stabilities and exhibits high electroluminescence (EL) efficiency as a host for the red phosphorescent OLEDs. The electrophosphorescence properties of the devices using SBP‐TS‐PSB as the host and red phosphorescent iridium (III) complexes as the emitter are investigated and these devices exhibit higher EL performances compared with the reference devices with 4,4′‐N,N′‐dicarbazole‐biphenyl (CBP) as a host material; for example, a (piq)2Ir(acac)‐doped SBP‐TS‐PSB device shows maximum external quantum efficiency of ηext = 14.6%, power efficiency of 10.3 lm W?1 and Commission International de L'Eclairage color coordinates (0.68, 0.32) at J = 1.5 mA cm?2, while the device with the CBP host shows maximum ηext = 12.1%. These high performances can be mainly explained by efficient triplet energy transfer from the host to the guests and improved charge balance attributable to the bipolar characteristics of the spirobifluorene group.  相似文献

The contradiction between enlarging the offset between energy levels of donor/acceptor and the required driving force for exciton split leads to a trade‐off between open circuit voltage (VOC) and short circuit current density (JSC), which is a big challenge for development of high performance polymer solar cells (PSCs). Some advanced works reported the PSCs with low photon energy loss (Eloss) and small driving force, but the correlation of molecular structures of light‐harvesting system and driving force is still unclear. In this work, a new alkylsilyl functionalized copolymer donor PBDS‐T (PBDST: poly[(2,6trialkylsilyl thiophen2yl)benzo[1,2b:4,5b′]dithiophene))alt(5,5(1′,3′di2thienyl5′,7′bis(2ethylhexyl)benzo[1′,2′c:4′,5′c′]dithiophene4,8dione))]) with low‐lying energy levels was designed for efficient PSCs. By monitoring the Photoluminescence quenching of the bulk and bilayer heterojunctions, small driving forces, ?EHOMO of 0.15 eV and ?ELUMO of 0.22 eV were founded to allow for efficient charge transfer, which were observed to correlate with the crystalline PBDS‐T and the optimal morphology in PBDS‐T:ITIC (ITIC: 3,9bis(2methylene(3(1,1dicyanomethylene)indanone))5,5,11,11tetrakis(4hexylphenyl)dithieno[2,3d:2′,3′d′]sindaceno[1,2b:5,6b′]dithiophene). Simultaneously improved VOC, JSC and small Eloss boosted the PCE over 11%, which is one of the highest values for annealing‐free device. These results shield a light on precise design of a light‐harvesting system with small driving force to simultaneously improve the VOC and JSC for highly efficient PSCs.  相似文献

Two novel perylene diimide (PDI)–based derivatives, Alq3‐PDI and Alq3‐PDI 2, are synthesized by flanking a 3D tri(8‐hydroxyquinoline)aluminum(III) (Alq3) core with PDI and a helical PDI dimer (PDI2) to construct high‐performance small molecular nonfullerene acceptors (SMAs). The 3D Alq3 core significantly suppresses the molecular aggregation of the resulting SMAs, leading to a well‐mixed blend with a PTTEA donor polymer and weak phase separation. Compared with Alq3‐PDI , the extended π‐conjugation of Alq3‐PDI2 results in higher‐order molecular packing, which improves the absorption and phase separation behavior. Thus, the Alq3‐PDI2 devices have higher Jsc and FF values and better device performance, which are further enhanced by a small amount of 4,4′‐bipyridine (Bipy) as an additive. The coordination between Bipy and the Alq3 core promotes molecular packing and phase separation, which lower charge recombination and enhanced charge collection in the resulting devices. Therefore, a largely improved Jsc of 15.74 mA cm?2 and very high FF of 71.27% are obtained in the Alq3‐PDI2 devices, resulting in a power conversion efficiency of 9.54%, which is the best value reported for PDI‐based polymer solar cells. The coordination can also serve as a “molecular lock,” which prevents molecular motion and thus improves device stability.  相似文献

To maximize the short‐circuit current density (JSC) and the open circuit voltage (VOC) simultaneously is a highly important but challenging issue in organic solar cells (OSCs). In this study, a benzotriazole‐based p‐type polymer (J61) and three benzotriazole‐based nonfullerene small molecule acceptors (BTA1‐3) are chosen to investigate the energetic driving force for the efficient charge transfer. The lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels of small molecule acceptors can be fine‐tuned by modifying the end‐capping units, leading to high VOC (1.15–1.30 V) of OSCs. Particularly, the LUMO energy level of BTA3 satisfies the criteria for efficient charge generation, which results in a high VOC of 1.15 V, nearly 65% external quantum efficiency, and a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.25%. This is one of the highest VOC in the high‐performance OSCs reported to date. The results imply that it is promising to achieve both high JSC and VOC to realize high PCE with the carefully designed nonfullerene acceptors.  相似文献

Three novel heteroleptic amphiphilic polypyridyl Ru‐complexes, coded MH08–10 , with hetero‐aromatic electron‐donor ancillary ligands containing N‐benzylcarbazole ( MH08 ), dibenzofurane ( MH09 ) and benzothiophene moieties ( MH10 ) were synthesized to study the influence of different heterocyclic electron donors on the interrelationship of photophysical and electrochemical properties, and device performances for dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). MH08 showed a remarkably high molar extinction coefficient of 27,650 M−1cm−1. MH08–TBA was synthesized from MH08 by converted one COOH group into −COO−+N(C4H9)4 to investigate the effect of deprotonating one carboxylic group on the Fermi level and electron injection. When compared under the same experimental device conditions using 0.3M t‐butylpyridine (TBP), the short‐circuit photocurrent density (JSC) and total conversion efficiency (%η) of MH08–10 were MH08 > MH09 > MH10 . The differences in %η and JSC of MH08–10 were ascribed to the conjugation length coupled with the electron donation and hole‐transport strength of the ancillary ligands, which were in the following order N‐benzylcarbazole>dibenzofurane>benzothiophene. Moreover, MH08–TBA showed JSC of 19.56 mAcm−2 and %η of 9.76% compared to 17.16 mAcm−2 and 9.12% of the benchmark dye N719 . The superior performance of MH08–TBA was attributed to its better light harvesting and enhanced incident‐photon‐to‐current efficiency (IPCE) conversion. DFT/TD‐DFT calculations utilizing the energy functional B3LYP and the full‐electron basis set DGDZVP were performed to calculate HOMO and LUMO energies, vertical electronic excitations, lowest singlet‐singlet electronic transitions (E0‐0), and excited state oxidation potentials. Excellent agreement was found between the experimental results and calculated data. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Two triphenylamine‐based metal‐free organic sensitizers, D35 with a single anchor group and M14 with two anchor groups, have been applied in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with a solid hole transporting material or liquid iodide/triiodide based electrolyte. Using the molecular hole conductor 2,2',7,7'‐tetrakis‐(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenyl‐amine)9,9'‐spirobifluorene (spiro‐OMeTAD), good overall conversion efficiencies of 4.5% for D35 and 4.4% for M14 were obtained under standard AM 1.5G illumination (100 mW cm?2). Although M14 has a higher molar extinction coefficient (by ~ 60%) and a slightly broader absorption spectrum compared to D35 , the latter performs slightly better due to longer lifetime of electrons in the TiO2, which can be attributed to differences in the molecular structure. In iodide/triiodide electrolyte‐based DSCs, D35 outperforms M14 to a much greater extent, due to a very large increase in electron lifetime. This can be explained by both the greater blocking capability of the D35 monolayer and the smaller degree of interaction of triiodide (iodine) with D35 compared to M14 . The present work gives some insight into how the molecular structure of sensitizer affects the performance in solid‐state and iodide/triiodide‐based DSCs.  相似文献

Two blue‐emitting cationic iridium complexes with 2‐(1H‐pyrazol‐1‐yl)pyridine (pzpy) as the ancillary ligands, namely, [Ir(ppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 and [Ir(dfppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 (ppy is 2‐phenylpyridine, dfppy is 2‐(2,4‐difluorophenyl) pyridine, and PF6? is hexafluorophosphate), have been prepared, and their photophysical and electrochemical properties have been investigated. In CH3CN solutions, [Ir(ppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 emits blue‐green light (475 nm), which is blue‐shifted by more than 100 nm with respect to the typical cationic iridium complex [Ir(ppy)2(dtb‐bpy)]PF6 (dtb‐bpy is 4,4′‐di‐tert‐butyl‐2,2′‐bipyridine); [Ir(dfppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 with fluorine‐substituted cyclometalated ligands shows further blue‐shifted light emission (451 nm). Quantum chemical calculations reveal that the emissions are mainly from the ligand‐centered 3ππ* states of the cyclometalated ligands (ppy or dfppy). Light‐emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) based on [Ir(ppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 gave green‐blue electroluminescence (486 nm) and had a relatively high efficiency of 4.3 cd A?1 when an ionic liquid 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate was added into the light‐emitting layer. LECs based on [Ir(dfppy)2(pzpy)]PF6 gave blue electroluminescence (460 nm) with CIE (Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage) coordinates of (0.20, 0.28), which is the bluest light emission for iTMCs‐based LECs reported so far. Our work suggests that using diimine ancillary ligands involving electron‐donating nitrogen atoms (like pzpy) is an efficient strategy to turn the light emission of cationic iridium complexes to the blue region.  相似文献

A series of orange‐red to red phosphorescent heteroleptic CuI complexes (the first ligand: 2,2′‐biquinoline (bq), 4,4′‐diphenyl‐2,2′‐biquinoline (dpbq) or 3,3′‐methylen‐4,4′‐diphenyl‐2,2′‐biquinoline (mdpbq); the second ligand: triphenylphosphine or bis[2‐(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether (DPEphos)) have been synthesized and fully characterized. With highly rigid bulky biquinoline‐type ligands, complexes [Cu(mdpbq)(PPh3)2](BF4) and [Cu(mdpbq)(DPEphos)](BF4) emit efficiently in 20 wt % PMMA films with photoluminescence quantum yield of 0.56 and 0.43 and emission maximum of 606 nm and 617 nm, respectively. By doping these complexes in poly(vinyl carbazole) (PVK) or N‐(4‐(carbazol‐9‐yl)phenyl)‐3,6‐bis(carbazol‐9‐yl) carbazole (TCCz), phosphorescent organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) were fabricated with various device structures. The complex [Cu(mdpbq)(DPEphos)](BF4) exhibits the best device performance. With the device structure of ITO/PEDOT/TCCz:[Cu(mdpbq)(DPEphos)](BF4) (15 wt %)/TPBI/LiF/Al (III), a current efficiency up to 6.4 cd A–1 with the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.61, 0.39) has been realized. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of efficient mononuclear CuI complexes with red emission.  相似文献

Ionic transition‐metal complexes based on silver(I) metal core (Ag‐iTMCs) represent an appealing alternative to other iTMCs in solid‐state lighting owing to (i) their low cost and well‐known synthesis, (ii) the tunable bandgap, and (iii) the highly efficient photoluminescence. However, their electroluminescence behavior is barely studied. Herein, the archetypal green‐emitting Ag‐iTMCs, namely [Ag(4,4′‐dimethoxy‐2,2′‐bipyridine)(Xantphos)]X (X = BF4, PF6, and ClO4), are thoughtfully investigated, revealing their electroluminescent features in light‐emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). Despite optimizing device fabrication and operation, luminance of 40 cd m?2, efficacy of 0.2 cd A?1, and a very poor stability of 30 s are achieved. This outcome encourages the comprehensive study of the degradation mechanism combining electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and cyclic voltammetry techniques. These results point out the irreversible formation of silver nanoclusters under operation strongly limiting the device performance. As such, LECs are further optimized by (i) changing the counterions (PF6? and ClO4?) and (ii) decoupling electron injection and exciton formation using a double‐layered architecture. The synergy of both approaches leads to a broad exciplex‐like whitish electroluminescence emission (x/y CIE of 0.40/0.44 and color rendering index of 85) with an outstanding improved stability of ≈4 orders of magnitude (>80 h) without losing brightness (35 cd m?2).  相似文献

Two donor‐π‐acceptor (D‐π‐A) dyes are synthesized for application in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSC). These D‐π‐A sensitizers use triphenylamine as donor, oligothiophene as both donor and π‐bridge, and benzothiadiazole (BTDA)/cyanoacrylic acid as acceptor that can be anchored to the TiO2 surface. Tuning of the optical and electrochemical properties is observed by the insertion of a phenyl ring between the BTDA and cyanoacrylic acid acceptor units. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of these sensitizers provide further insight into the molecular geometry and the impact of the additional phenyl group on the photophysical and photovoltaic performance. These dyes are investigated as sensitizers in liquid‐electrolyte‐based dye‐sensitized solar cells. The insertion of an additional phenyl ring shows significant influence on the solar cells' performance leading to an over 6.5 times higher efficiency (η = 8.21%) in DSSCs compared to the sensitizer without phenyl unit (η = 1.24%). Photophysical investigations reveal that the insertion of the phenyl ring blocks the back electron transfer of the charge separated state, thus slowing down recombination processes by over 5 times, while maintaining efficient electron injection from the excited dye into the TiO2‐photoanode.  相似文献

A novel means of generating highly interconnected and nano‐channeled photoelectrodes by employing one‐dimensionally shaped M13 viruses as a sacrificial template is proposed for highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The electrostatic binding between oppositely charged TiO2 nanoparticles and M13 viruses provides a uniform complexation and suppresses random aggregation of TiO2 nanoparticles. After the calcination process, the traces of viruses leave porously interconnected channel structures inside TiO2 nanoparticles, providing efficient paths for electrolyte contact as well as increased surface sites for dye adsorption. As a result, DSSCs generated using a sacrificial virus template exhibit an enhanced current density (JSC) of 12.35 mA cm‐2 and a high photoconversion efficiency (η) of 6.32%, greater than those of conventional photoelectrodes made of TiO2 nanoparticles (JSC of 8.91 mA cm‐2 and η of 4.67%). In addition, the stiffness and shape of the M13 virus can be varied, emphasizing the usefulness of the one‐dimensional structural characteristics of M13 viruses for the highly interconnected porous structure of DSSC photoelectrodes.  相似文献
