Raising the coulombic efficiency of lithium metal anode cycling is the deciding step in realizing long-life rechargeable lithium batteries. Here, we designed a highly concentrated salt/ether electrolyte diluted in a fluorinated ether: 1.8 M LiFSI in DEE/BTFE (diethyl ether/bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)ether), which realized an average coulombic efficiency of 99.37% at 0.5 mA cm−2 and 1 mAh cm−2 for more than 900 cycles. This electrolyte also maintained a record coulombic efficiency of 98.7% at 10 mA cm−2, indicative of its ability to provide fast-charging with high cathode loadings. Morphological studies reveal dense, dendrite free Li depositions after prolonged cycling, while surface analyses confirmed the formation of a robust LiF-rich SEI layer on the cycled Li surface. Moreover, we discovered that this ether-based electrolyte is highly compatible with the low-cost, high-capacity SPAN (Sulfurized polyacrylonitrile) cathode, where the constructed Li||SPAN cell exhibited reversible cathode capacity of 579 mAh g−1 and no capacity decay after 1200 cycles. A cell where a high areal loading SPAN electrode (>3.5 mAh cm−2) is paired with only onefold excess Li was constructed and cycled at 1.75 mA cm−2, maintaining a coulombic efficiency of 99.30% for the lithium metal. Computational simulations revealed that at saturation, the Li-FSI complex forms contact ion pairs, with a first solvation shell comprising DEE molecules, and a second solvation shell with a mix of DEE/BTFE. This study provides a path to enable high energy density Li||SPAN batteries with stable cycling.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal is promising for high energy density batteries due to its low electrochemical potential (?3.04 V) and high specific capacity (3860 mAh g?1). However, the safety issues impede the commercialization of Li anode batteries. In this work, research of hierarchical structure designs for Li anodes to suppress Li dendrite growth and alleviate volume expansion from the interior (by the 3D current collector and host matrix) to the exterior (by the artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), protective layer, separator, and solid state electrolyte) is concluded. The basic principles for achieving Li dendrite and volume expansion free Li anode are summarized. Following these principles, 3D porous current collector and host matrix are designed to suppress the Li dendrite growth from the interior. Second, artificial SEI, the protective layer, and separator as well as solid‐state electrolyte are constructed to regulate the distribution of current and control the Li nucleation and deposition homogeneously for suppressing the Li dendrite growth from exterior of Li anode. Ultimately, this work puts forward that it is significant to combine the Li dendrite suppression strategies from the interior to exterior by 3D hierarchical structure designs and Li metal modification to achieve excellent cycling and safety performance of Li metal batteries.  相似文献

Uncontrolled ion transport and susceptible SEI films are the key factors that induce lithium dendrite growth, which hinders the development of lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, a TpPa-2SO3H covalent organic framework (COF) nanosheet adhered cellulose nanofibers (CNF) on the polypropylene separator (COF@PP) is successfully designed as a battery separator to respond to the aforementioned issues. The COF@PP displays dual-functional characteristics with the aligned nanochannels and abundant functional groups of COFs, which can simultaneously modulate ion transport and SEI film components to build robust lithium metal anodes. The Li//COF@PP//Li symmetric cell exhibits stable cycling over 800 h with low ion diffusion activation energy and fast lithium ion transport kinetics, which effectively suppresses the dendrite growth and improves the stability of Li+ plating/stripping. Moreover, The LiFePO4//Li cells with COF@PP separator deliver a high discharge capacity of 109.6 mAh g−1 even at a high current density of 3 C. And it exhibits excellent cycle stability and high capacity retention due to the robust LiF-rich SEI film induced by COFs. This COFs-based dual-functional separator promotes the practical application of lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

The use of poly(1,3-dioxolane) (PDOL) electrolyte for lithium batteries has gained attention due to its high ionic conductivity, low cost, and potential for large-scale applications. However, its compatibility with Li metal needs improvement to build a stable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) toward metallic Li anode for practical lithium batteries. To address this concern, this study utilized a simple InCl3-driven strategy for polymerizing DOL and building a stable LiF/LiCl/LiIn hybrid SEI, confirmed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy (Cryo-TEM). Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and finite element simulation (FES) verify that the hybrid SEI exhibits not only excellent electron insulating properties but also fast transport properties of Li+. Moreover, the interfacial electric field shows an even potential distribution and larger Li+ flux, resulting in uniform dendrite-free Li deposition. The use of the LiF/LiCl/LiIn hybrid SEI in Li/Li symmetric batteries shows steady cycling for 2000 h, without experiencing a short circuit. The hybrid SEI also provided excellent rate performance and outstanding cycling stability in LiFePO4/Li batteries, with a high specific capacity of 123.5 mAh g−1 at 10 C rate. This study contributes to the design of high-performance solid lithium metal batteries utilizing PDOL electrolytes.  相似文献

Uncontrollable Li dendrite growth and low Coulombic efficiency severely hinder the application of lithium metal batteries. Although a lot of approaches have been developed to control Li deposition, most of them are based on inhibiting lithium deposition on protrusions, which can suppress Li dendrite growth at low current density, but is inefficient for practical battery applications, with high current density and large area capacity. Here, a novel leveling mechanism based on accelerating Li growth in concave fashion is proposed, which enables uniform and dendrite‐free Li plating by simply adding thiourea into the electrolyte. The small thiourea molecules can be absorbed on the Li metal surface and promote Li growth with a superfilling effect. With 0.02 m thiourea added in the electrolyte, Li | Li symmetrical cells can be cycled over 1000 cycles at 5.0 mA cm?2, and a full cell with LiFePO4 | Li configuration can even maintain 90% capacity after 650 cycles at 5.0 C. The superfilling effect is also verified by computational chemistry and numerical simulation, and can be expanded to a series of small chemicals using as electrolyte additives. It offers a new avenue to dendrite‐free lithium deposition and may also be expanded to other battery chemistries.  相似文献

Lithium metal batteries are intensively studied due to the potential to bring up breakthroughs in high energy density devices. However, the inevitable growth of dendrites will cause the rapid failure of battery especially under high current density. Herein, the utilization of tetrachloroethylene (C2Cl4) is reported as the electrolyte additive to induce the formation of the LiCl-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). Because of the lower Li ion diffusion barrier of LiCl, such SEI layer can supply sufficient pathway for rapid Li ion transport, alleviate the concentration polarization at the interface and inhibit the growth of Li dendrites. Meanwhile, the C2Cl4 can be continuously replenished during the cycle to ensure the stability of the SEI layer. With the aid of C2Cl4-based electrolyte, the Li metal electrodes can maintain stable for >300 h under high current density of 50 mA cm−2 with areal capacity of 5 mAh cm−2, broadening the compatibility of lithium metal anode toward practical application scenarios.  相似文献

Lithium metal has attracted much research interest as a possible anode material for high‐energy‐density lithium‐ion batteries in recent years. However, its practical use is severely limited by uncontrollable deposition, volume expansion, and dendrite formation. Here, a metastable state of Li, Li cluster, that forms between LiC6 and Li dendrites when over‐lithiating carbon cloth (CC) is discovered. The Li clusters with sizes in the micrometer and submicrometer scale own outstanding electrochemical reversibility between Li+ and Li, allowing the CC/Li clusters composite anode to demonstrate a high first‐cycle coulombic efficiency (CE) of 94.5% ± 1.0% and a stable CE of 99.9% for 160 cycles, which is exceptional for a carbon/lithium composite anode. The CC/Li clusters composite anode shows a high capacity of 3 mAh cm?2 contributed by both Li+ intercalation and Li‐cluster formation, and excellent cycling stability with a signature sloping voltage profile. Furthermore, the CC/Li clusters composite anode can be assembled into full cells without precycling or prelithiation. The full cells containing bare CC as the anode and excessive LiCoO2 as the cathode exhibit high specific capacity and good cyclic stability in 200 cycles, stressing the advantage of controlled formation of Li clusters.  相似文献

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are strongly considered as next-generation energy storage systems because of their high energy density. However, the shuttling of lithium polysulfides (LiPS), sluggish reaction kinetics, and uncontrollable Li-dendrite growth severely degrade the electrochemical performance of Li–S batteries. Herein, a dual-functional flexible free-standing carbon nanofiber conductive framework in situ embedded with TiN-VN heterostructures (TiN-VN@CNFs) as an advanced host simultaneously for both the sulfur cathode (S/TiN-VN@CNFs) and the lithium anode (Li/TiN-VN@CNFs) is designed. As cathode host, the TiN-VN@CNFs can offer synergistic function of physical confinement, chemical anchoring, and superb electrocatalysis of LiPS redox reactions. Meanwhile, the well-designed host with excellent lithiophilic feature can realize homogeneous lithium deposition for suppressing dendrite growth. Combined with these merits, the full battery (denoted as S/TiN-VN@CNFs || Li/TiN-VN@CNFs) exhibits remarkable electrochemical properties including high reversible capacity of 1110 mAh g−1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 C and ultralong cycle life over 600 cycles at 2 C. Even with a high sulfur loading of 5.6 mg cm−2, the full cell can achieve a high areal capacity of 5.5 mAh cm−2 at 0.1 C. This work paves a new design from theoretical and experimental aspects for fabricating high-energy-density flexible Li–S full batteries.  相似文献

Thanks to its high specific capacity and low electrochemical potential, lithium metal is an ideal anode for next-generation high-energy batteries. However, the unstable heterogeneous surface of lithium gives rise to safety and efficiency concerns that prevent it from being utilized in practical applications. In this work, the formation of a closed-host bi-layer solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) improves the stability of lithium metal anode. This is successfully realized by forming an interconnected porous LiF-rich artificial SEI in contact with Li metal, and a dense, stable in-situ formed upper layer SEI. The porous layer increases the number of Li/LiF interfaces, which reduces local volume fluctuations and improves Li+ diffusion along these interfaces. Additionally, the tortuous porous structure guides uniform Li+ flux distribution and mechanically suppresses dendrite propagation. The dense upper layer of the SEI accomplishes a closed-host design, preventing continuous consumption of active materials. The duality of a dense top layer with porous bottom layer led to extended cycle life and improved rate performance, evidenced with symmetric cell testing, as well as full cell testing paired with sulfur and LiFePO4 (LFP) cathodes. This work is a good example of a rational design of the SEI, based on comprehensive consideration of various critical factors to improve Li-metal anode stability, and highlights a new pathway to improve cycling and rate performances of Li metal batteries.  相似文献

Fluorinated solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) derived from fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) is particularly favored for dendrite suppression in lithium metal batteries because of the high Young's modulus (≈64.9 Gpa) and low electronic conductivity (10?31 S cm?1) of LiF. However, the transportation ability of Li+ in this fluorinated SEI under high current densities is limited by the low ionic conductivity of LiF (≈10?12 S cm?1). Herein, by rational design, 0.1 m lithium bisoxalatodifluorophosphate (LiDFBOP) is adopted to modify fluorinated SEI in FEC based electrolyte for fast charging lithium metal batteries. Benefiting from the synergetic effect of LiDFBOP and FEC, a fluorinated SEI rich in LiF and LixPOyFz species can be yielded, which can further improve the stability and ionic conductivity of SEI for fast Li+ transportation. Meanwhile, the average coulombic efficiency for Li plating/stripping is improved from 92.0% to 96.7%, thus promoting stable cycling of Li||Li symmetrical batteries with dendrite free morphologies, even at high current densities (3.0 mA cm?2) and high plating/stripping capacities (3.0 mAh cm?2). More attractively, in practical Li||LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 batteries, the cycling life at 1C and rate capacities at 6C are also significantly improved. Therefore, the synergetic effect of LiDFBOP and FEC provides great potential for achieving advanced lithium metal batteries with fast charging ability.  相似文献

Much attention is paid to metal lithium as a hopeful negative material for reversible batteries with a high specific capacity. Although applying 3D hosts can relieve the dendrite growth to some extent, gradient‐distributed lithium ion in 3D uniform hosts still induces uncontrolled lithium dendrites growth, especially at high lithium capacity and high current density. Herein, a 3D conductive carbon nanofiber framework with gradient‐distributed ZnO particles as nucleation seeds (G‐CNF) to regulate lithium deposition is proposed. Based on such a unique structure, the G‐CNF electrode exhibits a high average Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 98.1% for 700 cycles at 0.5 mA cm?2. Even at 5 mA cm?2, the G‐CNF electrode performs a stable cycling process and high CE of 96.0% for over 200 cycles. When the lithium‐deposited G‐CNF (G‐CNF‐Li) anode is applied in a full cell with a commercial LiFePO4 cathode, it exhibits a stable capacity of 115 mAh g?1 and high retention of 95.7% after 300 cycles. Through inducing the gradient‐distributed nucleation seeds to counter the existing Li‐ion concentration polarization, a uniform and stable lithium deposition process in the 3D host is achieved even under the condition of high current density.  相似文献

Lithium metal anode (LMA) is puzzled by the serious issues corresponding to infinite volume change and notorious lithium dendrite during long-term stripping/plating process. Herein, the transition metal nitrides array with outstanding lithiophilicity, including CoN, VN, and Ni3N, are decorated onto carbon framework as “nests” to uniform Li nucleation and guide Li metal deposition. These transition metal nitrides with excellent conductivity can guarantee the fast electron transport, therefore maintain a stable interface for Li reduction. In addition, the designed multi-dimensional structure of metal nitride array decorated carbon framework can effectively regulate the growth of Li metal during the stripping/plating process. Of note, attributing to the lattice-matching between CoN and Li metal, the composite Li/CoN@CF anode exhibits ultra-stable cycling performance in symmetrical cells (over 4000 h@1 mA cm−2 with 1 mAh cm−2 and 1000h@20 mA cm−2 with 20 mAh cm−2). The assembled full cells based on Li/CoN@CF composite anode, LiFePO4 or S as cathodes, deliver excellent cycling stability and rate capability. This strategy provides an effective approach to develop a stable lithium metal anode for lithium metal batteries.  相似文献

The electrochemical performances of lithium metal batteries are determined by the kinetics of interfacial de-solvation and ion transport, especially at low-temperature environments. Here, a novel electrolyte that easily de-solvated and conducive to interfacial film formation is designed for low-temperature lithium metal batteries. A fluorinated carboxylic ester, diethyl fluoromalonate (DEFM), and a fluorinated carbonate, fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) are used as solvents, while high concentrated lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) is served as the solute. Through tailoring the electrolyte formulation, the lithium ions in the high concentrated fluorinated carboxylic ester electrolyte are mainly combined with anions, which weakens the bonding strength of lithium ions and solvent molecules in the solvation structure, beneficial to the de-solvation process at low temperature. The fluorinated carboxylic ester (FCE) electrolyte enables the LiFePO4 (LFP) | Li half-cell achieves a high capacity of 91.9 mAh g−1 at −30 °C, with high F content in the interface. With optimized de-solvation kinetics, the LFP | Li full cell remains over 100 mAh g−1 at 0 °C after cycling 100 cycles. Building new solvents with outstanding low-temperature properties and weaker solvation to match with Li metal anode, this work brings new possibilities of realizing high energy density and low temperature energy storage batteries.  相似文献

The lithium–sulfur (Li–S) battery is regarded as a promising high-energy-density battery system, in which the dissolution–precipitation redox reactions of the S cathode are critical. However, soluble Li polysulfides (LiPSs), as the indispensable intermediates, easily diffuse to the Li anode and react with the Li metal severely, thus depleting the active materials and inducing the rapid failure of the battery, especially under practical conditions. Herein, an organosulfur-containing solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is tailored for the stabilizaiton of the Li anode in Li–S batteries by employing 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)thiophenol as an electrolyte additive. The organosulfur-containing SEI protects the Li anode from the detrimental reactions with LiPSs and decreases its corrosion. Under practical conditions with a high-loading S cathode (4.5 mgS cm−2), a low electrolyte/S ratio (5.0 µL mgS−1), and an ultrathin Li anode (50 µm), a Li–S battery delivers 82 cycles with an organosulfur-containing SEI in comparison to 42 cycles with a routine SEI. This work provokes the vital insights into the role of the organic components of SEI in the protection of the Li anode in practical Li–S batteries.  相似文献

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries have heretofore attracted tremendous interest due to low cost and high energy density. In this realm, both the severe shuttling of polysulfide and the uncontrollable growth of dendritic lithium have greatly hindered their commercial viability. Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of rational approaches to simultaneously regulate polysulfide behaviors and restrain lithium dendritic growth. Nevertheless, the major obstacles for high-performance Li–S batteries still lie in little knowledge of bifunctional material candidates and inadequate explorations of advanced technologies for customizable devices. Herein, a “two-in-one” strategy is put forward to elaborate V8C7–VO2 heterostructure scaffolds via the 3D printing (3DP) technique as dual-effective polysulfide immobilizer and lithium dendrite inhibitor for Li–S batteries. A thus-derived 3DP-V8C7–VO2/S electrode demostrates excellent rate capability (643.5 mAh g−1 at 6.0 C) and favorable cycling stability (a capacity decay of 0.061% per cycle at 4.0 C after 900 cycles). Importantly, the integrated Li–S battery harnessing both 3DP hosts realizes high areal capacity under high sulfur loadings (7.36 mAh cm−2 at a sulfur loading of 9.2 mg cm−2). This work offers insight into solving the concurrent challenges for both S cathode and Li anode throughout 3DP.  相似文献

Lithium metal is regarded as one of the most ideal anode materials for next-generation batteries, due to its high theoretical capacity of 3860 mAh g−1 and low redox potential (−3.04 V vs standard hydrogen electrode). However, practical applications of lithium anodes are impeded by the uncontrollable growth of lithium dendrite and continuous reactions between lithium and electrolyte during cycling processes. According to reports for decades, artificial solid electrolyte interface (SEI), electrolyte additives, and construction of three-dimensional (3D) structures are demonstrated essential strategies. Among numerous approaches, metals that can alloy with lithium have been employed to homogenize lithium deposition and accelerate Li ion transportation, which attract more and more attention. This review aims to summarize the lithium alloying applied in lithium anodes including the fabricating approaches of alloy-containing lithium anodes, and the action mechanism and challenges of fabricated lithium anodes. Based on summarizing the literature, shortcomings and challenges as well as the prospects are also analyzed, to impel further research of lithium anodes and lithium-based batteries.  相似文献

Prelithiating cathode is considered as one of the most promising lithium compensation strategies for practical high energy density batteries. Whereas most of reported cathode lithium compensation agents are deficient owing to their poor air-stability, residual insulating solid, or formidable Li-extracting barrier. Here, this work proposes molecularly engineered 4-Fluoro-1,2-dihydroxybenzene Li salt (LiDF) with high specific capacity (382.7 mAh g−1) and appropriate delithiation potential (3.6–4.2 V) as an air-stable cathode Li compensation agent. More importantly, the charged residue 4-Fluoro-1,2-benzoquinone (BQF) can synergistically work as an electrode/electrolyte interface forming additive to build uniform and robust LiF-riched cathode/anode electrolyte interfaces (CEI/SEI). Consequently, less Li loss and retrained electrolyte decomposition are achieved. With 2 wt% 4-Fluoro-1,2-dihydroxybenzene Li salt initially blended within the cathode, 1.3 Ah pouch cells with NCM (Ni92) cathode and SiO/C (550 mAh g−1) anode can keep 91% capacity retention after 350 cycles at 1 C rate. Moreover, the anode free of NCM622+LiDF||Cu cell achieves 78% capacity retention after 100 cycles with the addition of 15 wt% LiDF. This work provides a feasible sight for the rational designing Li compensation agent at molecular level to realize high energy density batteries.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal has been considered as the ultimate anode material for next-generation rechargeable batteries due to its ultra-high theoretical specific capacity (3860 mAh g−1) and the lowest reduction voltage (−3.04 V vs the standard hydrogen electrode). However, the dendritic Li formation, uncontrolled interfacial reactions, and huge volume variations lead to unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer, low Coulombic efficiency and hence short cycling lifetime. Designing artificial solid electrolyte interphase (artificial SEI) films on the Li metal electrode exhibits great potential to solve the aforementioned problems and enable Li–metal batteries with prolonged lifetime. Polymer materials with good ionic conductivity, superior processability and high flexibility are considered as ideal artificial SEI film materials. In this review, according to the ionic conductive groups, recent advances in polymeric artificial SEI films are summarized to afford a deep understanding of Li ion plating/stripping behavior and present design principles of high-performance artificial SEI films in achieving stable Li metal electrodes. Perspectives regarding to the future research directions of polymeric artificial SEI films for Li–metal electrode are also discussed. The insights and design principles of polymeric artificial SEI films gained in the current review will be definitely useful in achieving the Li–metal batteries with improved energy density, high safety and long cycling lifetime toward next-generation energy storage devices.  相似文献

Lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) provide superior energy densities far beyond current Li-ion batteries (LIBs) but practical applications are hindered by uncontrolled dendrite formation and the build-up of dead Li in “hostless” Li metal anodes. To circumvent these issues, we created a 3D framework of a carbon paper (CP) substrate decorated with lithiophilic nanowires (silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), and SiGe alloy NWs) that provides a robust host for efficient stripping/plating of Li metal. The lithiophilic Li22Si5, Li22(Si0.5Ge0.5)5, and Li22Ge5 formed during rapid Li melt infiltration prevented the formation of dead Li and dendrites. Li22Ge5/Li covered CP hosts delivered the best performance, with the lowest overpotentials of 40 mV (three times lower than pristine Li) when cycled at 1 mA cm−2/1 mAh cm−2 for 1000 h and at 3 mA cm−2/3 mAh cm−2 for 500 h. Ex situ analysis confirmed the ability of the lithiophilic Li22Ge5 decorated samples to facilitate uniform Li deposition. When paired with sulfur, LiFePO4, and NMC811 cathodes, the CP-LiGe/Li anodes delivered 200 cycles with 82%, 93%, and 90% capacity retention, respectively. The discovery of the highly stable, lithiophilic NW decorated CP hosts is a promising route toward stable cycling LMBs and provides a new design motif for hosted Li metal anodes.  相似文献
