This research purpose was to perform a parametric study of a novel thermal water pump well fitted in a simulated solar water heating system (SWHS). The SWHS was composed of a heating tank (HT), a hot water storage tank (ST) and an overhead tank (OT). The HT together with a specially designed valve act as a novel thermal water pump that gets power from hot water vapor and air pressure produced by a built-in electric heater in order to transfer heat from the HT to ST. The general operation of this pump has four stages for each cycle: heating, water circulating, vapor circulating and water supplying. The discharge water heads were varied with an increment of 0.25 m from 0.75 to 3 m. According to the experiment, it was found that the pump could operate at an average HT temperature of about 80–95 °C leading to 70–80 °C ST temperatures and 20–35 pumping cycles and consumed 17 MJ energy input during 9-h period. The overall thermal efficiency of the SWHS was 33–42% and the mean pump efficiency was about 0.005–0.011% depending upon the discharge heads.  相似文献

In the present paper, an exergetic analysis of a double stage thermal compressor using the lithium bromide–water solution is performed. The double stage system considered allows obtaining evaporation temperatures equal to 5 °C using solar heat coming from flat plate collectors and other low grade thermal sources. In this study, ambient air and water are alternatively used as cooling fluids without crystallization problems up to condensation–absorption temperatures equal to 50 °C. The results obtained give the entropy generated, the exergy destroyed and the exergetic efficiency of the double stage thermal compressor as a function of the absorption temperature. The conclusions obtained show that the irreversibilities generated by the double stage thermal compressor will tend to increase with the absorption temperature up to 45 °C. The maximum value corresponds to 1.35 kJ kg−1 K−1. The entropy generated and the exergy destroyed by the air cooled system are higher than those by the water cooled one. The difference between the values increases when the absorption temperature increases. For an absorption temperature equal to 50 °C, the air cooled mode generates 14% more entropy and destroys 14% more exergy than the water cooled one. Also, the results are compared with those of previous studies for single and double effect air cooled and water cooled thermal compressors. The conclusions show that the double stage system has about 22% less exergetic efficiency than the single effect one and 32% less exergetic efficiency than the double effect one.  相似文献

In this research, a solar air heater is designed, fabricated and its performance is assessed in the perspective of an emerging/developing country with a huge energy demand like Bangladesh. The winter season (mid-November–mid-February) of the country characterizes by low temperatures, cool air blowing from the west or northwest, clear sky and meager rainfall. Minimum temperature in the extreme northwest in late December and early January sometimes reaches 3 °C and day length is about 10 h. The shortness of winter days can be compensated by reducing the heat loss during long nights. The solar air heater is constructed to prevent as much heat loss as possible. In other words, the heating of air is accomplished by maximizing light gain and minimizing heat loss. It is observed that the fabricated solar air heater is working efficiently. The maximum room temperature and the temperature difference from ambient are 45.5 °C and 12.25 °C for forced circulation and 41.75 °C and 8.5 °C for natural circulation respectively. The experimental outlet temperatures have been compared with that of theoretical values. Due to its low-cost and simple technology, it is affordable in all aspects, viz. of cost, operation and maintenance by the typical people of Bangladesh.  相似文献

The heat pump water heater produces hot water so slow at low ambient temperature that it frequently could not meet the hot water load demand in winter. The present study develops a fast response heat pump water heater (FRHP) designed with two separate tanks (supply and holding tank) which are connected by a thermostat made from shape memory alloy (SMAV). The SMAV is a mechanical heat-sensitive device made from shape memory alloy which keeps the valve closed when the water temperature is not high enough. This will isolate the tanks and let the vapor compression cycle heat up the supply tank only. The speed of temperature rise thus is increased. The SMAV will open and induce a natural circulation between two tanks to transfer the heat from the supply tank to the holding tank, when water is heated to a designated temperature. A 100 l FRHP was built and tested in the present study. The experimental results showed that the temperature response speed of the supply tank, before SMAV is opened, reaches 1.056 °C/min and the holding tank, after SMAV is opened, reaches 0.828 °C/min at ambient temperature 20 °C. The FRHP will heat up 50 l water in the supply tank with 30 °C temperature rise within 40 min in winter which is acceptable in domestic application. The energy consumption is in the range 0.008–0.016 kWh/l of hot water at about 55 °C.  相似文献

CuO–water nanofluids were prepared from non-spherical CuO nanoparticles by dispersing them in water through the aid of ultrasonication along with the use of Tiron as dispersant. Thermal conductivity enhancements of 13% and 44% have been obtained with 0.016 vol% CuO–water nanofluids at 28 °C and 55 °C respectively, which could be attributed to the high aspect ratio and Brownian motion of nanoparticles. Correlations have been developed to predict the influence of temperature (28–55 °C) and nanoparticles volume concentration (<0.016 vol%) on relative viscosity and thermal conductivity ratio. The results indicate the potential of this nanofluid for thermal management applications.  相似文献

This paper presents the surface temperature and voltage distributions on a prismatic lithium-ion battery pack at 1C, 2C, 3C, and 4C discharge rates and 5 °C, 15 °C, 25 °C, and 35 °C boundary conditions (BCs) for water cooling and ~ 22 °C for air cooling methods. It provides quantitative data regarding thermal behaviour of lithium-ion batteries for designing thermal management systems and developing reliable thermal models. In this regard, three large LiFePO4 20 Ah capacity, prismatic batteries are connected in series with four cold plates used between cells and eighteen thermocouples are placed at distributed locations on the principle surface of all three cells: the first six for the first cell, the second six for the second cell, and the third six for the third cell, and the average and peak surface temperatures as well as voltage distributions are measured and presented in this study. In addition, the simulated heat generation rate, temperature and voltage distributions are validated with an experimental data for the above mentioned C-rates and BCs. The present study shows that increasing discharge rates and BCs results in increase in the maximum and average surface temperatures at the three locations (near the anode, cathode, and mid surface of the body). The highest value of the average surface temperature is obtained for 4C and 35 °C BC (36.36 °C) and the lowest value is obtained for 1C and 5 °C BC (7.22 °C) for water cooling method.  相似文献

Selection of an appropriate HTF is important for minimising the cost of the solar receiver, thermal storage and heat exchangers, and for achieving high receiver and cycle efficiencies. Current molten salt HTFs have high melting points (142–240 °C) and degrade above 600 °C. Sodium’s low melting point (97.7 °C) and high boiling point (873 °C) allow for a much larger range of operational temperatures. Most importantly, the high temperatures of sodium allow the use of advanced cycles (e.g. combined Brayton/Rankine cycles). In this study, a comparison between the thermophysical properties of two heat transfer fluids (HTFs), Hitec (a ternary molten salt 53% KNO3 + 40% NaNO2 + 7% NaNO3) and liquid sodium (Na), has been carried out to determine their suitability for use in high-temperature concentrated solar thermal central-receiver systems for power generation. To do this, a simple receiver model was developed to determine the influences of the fluids’ characteristics on receiver design and efficiency. While liquid sodium shows potential for solar thermal power systems due to its wide range of operation temperatures, it also has two other important differences – a high heat transfer coefficient (~an order of magnitude greater than Hitec) and a low heat capacity (30–50% lower than Hitec salt). These issues are studied in depth in this model. Overall, we found that liquid sodium is potentially a very attractive alternative to molten salts in next generation solar thermal power generation if its limitations can be overcome.  相似文献

Thermal energy storage systems which keep warm and cold water separated by means of gravitational stratification have been found to be attractive in low and medium temperature thermal storage applications due to their simplicity and low cost. This effect is known as thermal stratification, and has been studied experimentally thoughtfully. This system stores sensible heat in water for short term applications. Adding PCM (phase change material) modules at the top of the water tank would give the system a higher storage density and compensate heat loss in the top layer because of the latent heat of PCM. Tests were performed under real operating conditions in a complete solar heating system that was constructed at the University of Lleida, Spain. In this work, new PCM-graphite compounds with optimized thermal properties were used, such as 80:20 weight percent ratio mixtures of paraffin and stearic acid (PS), paraffin and palmitic acid (PP), and stearic acid and myristic acid (SM). The solar domestic hot water (SDHW) tank used in the experiments had a 150 L water capacity. Three modules with a cylindrical geometry with an outer diameter of 0.176 m and a height of 0.315 m were used. In the cooling experiments, the average tank water temperature dropped below the PCM melting temperature range in about 6–12 h. During reheating experiments, the PCM could increase the temperature of 14–36 L of water at the upper part of the SDHW tank by 3–4 °C. This effect took place in 10–15 min. It can be concluded that PS gave the best results for thermal performance enhancement of the SDHW tank (74% efficiency).  相似文献

The purpose of the present study is to enhance the heating capacity and increase COP under the frosting condition during heating operation of small capacity air-to-air heat pump. We applied an electric heater in front of outdoor unit of heat pump instead of indoor unit as usual. When the outdoor temperature is 2 °C/1 °C (DB/WB), the present heat pump turns on the electric heater in outdoor unit. The heating capacity increases 38.0% and COP increases 57.0% in comparison with those of conventional heat pump. When the outdoor temperature is 4 °C/2 °C (DB/WB), the electric heater is in ON/OFF mode according to the temperature of the evaporator. The heating capacity increases 9.1% and COP increases 71.1% in comparison with those of conventional heat pump.  相似文献

The energy and exergy analyses of the drying process of olive mill wastewater (OMW) using an indirect type natural convection solar dryer are presented. Olive mill wastewater gets sufficiently dried at temperatures between 34 °C and 52 °C. During the experimental process, air relative humidity did not exceed 58%, and solar radiation ranged from 227 W/m2 to 825 W/m2. Drying air mass flow was maintained within the interval 0.036–0.042 kg/s. Under these experimental conditions, 2 days were needed to reduce the moisture content to approximately one-third of the original value, in particular from 3.153 gwater/gdry matter down to 1.000 gwater/gdry matter.Using the first law of thermodynamics, energy analysis was carried out to estimate the amounts of energy gained from solar air heater and the ratio of energy utilization of the drying chamber. Also, applying the second law, exergy analysis was developed to determine the type and magnitude of exergy losses during the solar drying process. It was found that exergy losses took place mainly during the second day, when the available energy was less used. The exergy losses varied from 0 kJ/kg to 0.125 kJ/kg for the first day, and between 0 kJ/kg and 0.168 kJ/kg for the second. The exergetic efficiencies of the drying chamber decreased as inlet temperature was increased, provided that exergy losses became more significant. In particular, they ranged from 53.24% to 100% during the first day, and from 34.40% to 100% during the second.  相似文献

This paper focuses on evaluation of the optimum cooling water temperature during condensation of saturated water vapor within a shell and tube condenser, through minimization of exergy destruction. First, the relevant exergy destruction is mathematically derived and expressed as a function of operating temperatures and mass flow rates of both vapor and coolant. The optimization problem is defined subject to condensation of the entire vapor mass flow and it is solved based on the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method. The optimization results are obtained at two different condensation temperatures of 46 °C and 54 °C for an industrial condenser. As the upstream steam mass flow rates increase, the optimal inlet cooling water temperature and exergy efficiency decrease, whereas exergy destruction increases. However, the results are higher for optimum values at a condensation temperature of 54 °C, compared to those when the condensation temperature is 46 °C. For example, when the steam mass flow rate is 1 kg/s and the condensation temperature increases from 46 °C to 54 °C, the optimal upstream coolant temperature increases from 16.78 °C to 25.17 °C. Also, assuming an ambient temperature of 15 °C, the exergy destruction decreases from 172.5 kW to 164.6 kW. A linear dependence of exergy efficiency on dimensionless temperature is described in terms of the ratio of the temperature difference between the inlet cooling water and the environment, to the temperature difference between condensation and environment.  相似文献

Palmitic acid (PA, 59.8 °C) and lauric acid (LA, 42.6 °C) are phase change materials (PCM) having quite high melting temperatures which can limit their use in low temperature solar applications such as solar space heating and greenhouse heating. However, their melting temperatures can be tailored to appropriate value by preparing a eutectic mixture of the lauric and the palmitic acids. In the present study, the thermal analysis based on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique shows that the mixture of 69.0 wt% LA and 31 wt% PA forms a eutectic mixture having melting temperature of 35.2 °C and the latent heat of fusion of 166.3 J g−1. This study also considers the experimental determination of the thermal characteristics of the eutectic mixture during the heat charging and discharging processes. Radial and axial temperature distribution, heat transfer coefficient between the heat transfer fluid (HTF) pipe and the PCM, heat recovery rate and heat charging and discharging fractions were experimentally established employing a vertical concentric pipe-in-pipe energy storage system. The changes of these characteristics were evaluated with respect to the effect of inlet HTF temperature and mass flow rate. The DSC thermal analysis and the experimental results indicate that the LA–PA eutectic mixture can be a potential material for low temperature thermal energy storage applications in terms of its thermo-physical and thermal characteristics.  相似文献

A thermal energy storage system, consisting of a packed bed of rocks as storing material and air as high-temperature heat transfer fluid, is analyzed for concentrated solar power (CSP) applications. A 6.5 MWhth pilot-scale thermal storage unit immersed in the ground and of truncated conical shape is fabricated and experimentally demonstrated to generate thermoclines. A dynamic numerical heat transfer model is formulated for separate fluid and solid phases and variable thermo-physical properties in the range of 20–650 °C, and validated with experimental results. The validated model is further applied to design and simulate an array of two industrial-scale thermal storage units, each of 7.2 GWhth capacity, for a 26 MWel round-the-clock concentrated solar power plant during multiple 8 h-charging/16 h-discharging cycles, yielding 95% overall thermal efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper, a solar-powered compound system for heating and cooling was designed and constructed in a golf course in Taiwan. An integrated, two-bed, closed-type adsorption chiller was developed in the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan. Plate fin and tube heat exchangers were adopted as an adsorber and evaporator/condenser. Some test runs have been conducted in the laboratory. Under the test conditions of 80 °C hot water, 30 °C cooling water, and 14 °C chilled water inlet temperatures, a cooling power of 9 kW and a COP (coefficient of performance for cooling) of 0.37 can be achieved. It has provided a SCP (specific cooling power) of about 72 W/(kg adsorbent). Some field tests have been performed from July to October 2006 for providing air-conditioning and hot water. The efficiency of the collector field lies in 18.5–32.4%, with an average value of 27.3%. The daily average COP of the adsorption chiller lies in 33.8–49.7%, with an average COP of 40.3% and an average cooling power of 7.79 kW. A typical daily operation shows that the efficiency of the solar heating system, the adsorption cooling and the entirely solar cooling system is 28.4%, 45.2%, and 12.8%, respectively.  相似文献

A steam ejector refrigeration system is a low capital cost solution for utilizing industrial waste heat or solar energy. When the heat source temperature is lower than 80 °C, the utilization of the thermal energy from such a low-temperature heat source can be a considerable challenge. In this investigation, an experimental prototype for the steam ejector refrigeration system was designed and manufactured, which can operate using extra low-temperature heat source below 80 °C. The effects of the operation temperature, the nozzle exit position (NXP) and the diameter of the constant area section on the working performance of the steam ejector were investigated at generating temperatures ranging from 40 °C to 70 °C. Three ejectors with a same de Laval nozzle for the primary nozzle and three different constant-area sections were designed and fabricated. The experimental results show that a steam ejector can function for a certain configuration size of the steam ejector with a generating temperature ranging from 40 °C to 70 °C and an evaporating temperature of 10 °C. For a given NXP, the system COP and cooling capacity of the steam ejector decreased until inoperative as the diameter of the constant area section reduced. The results of this investigation provided a good solution for the refrigeration application of the steam ejector refrigeration system powered by an extra low-temperature heat source.  相似文献

A simulation model for the CO2 heat pump water heater was developed and validated in this study. Component models of the gas cooler, evaporator, compressor, and expansion valve were constructed with careful consideration for the heat transfer performances. To validate the simulation model, experiments were carried out using an actual CO2 heat pump water heater (water heating capacity: 22.3 kW; hot-water temperature: 90 °C). In simulations and experiments, the effects of the inlet water temperature and outside air temperature on the system characteristics were discussed. As a result, the average difference in COP between the simulation results and experimental results is 1.5%.  相似文献

A small scale steam jet ejector experimental setup was designed and manufactured. This ejector setup consists of an open loop configuration and the boiler operate in the temperature range of Tb = 85–140 °C. The typical evaporator liquid temperatures range from Te = 5 °C to 10 °C while the typical water-cooled condenser pressure ranges from Pc = 1.70 kPa to 5.63 kPa (Tc = 15–35 °C). The boiler is powered by two 4 kW electric elements while a 3 kW electric element simulates the cooling load in the evaporator. The electric elements are controlled by means of variacs.Primary nozzles with throat diameters of 2.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 3.5 mm are tested while the secondary ejector throat diameter remains unchanged at 18 mm. These primary nozzles allow the boiler to operate in the temperature range of Tb = 85–110 °C. When the nozzle throat diameter is increased, the minimum boiler temperature decreases. A primary nozzle with a 3.5 mm throat diameter was tested at a boiler temperature of Tb = 95 °C, an evaporator temperature of Te = 10 °C and a critical condenser pressure of Pcrit = 2.67 kPa (22.6 °C). The system's COP is 0.253.In a case study the experimental data of a solar powered steam jet ejector air conditioner is investigated. Solar powered steam ejector air conditioning systems are technical and economical viable when compared to conventional vapour compression air conditioners. Such a system can either utilise flat plate or evacuated tube solar thermal collectors depending on the type of solar energy available.  相似文献

When using passive solar heating systems, it is necessary to have available an Equator-facing facade on which to install them. Rooms without such a facade are not the best option for conventional passive solar heating systems. SIRASOL is a passive solar radiant system that captures solar energy and is to be installed in the ceiling of the room. This room must not necessarily have an Equator-facing facade. Solar energy heats up a metal sheet, which is the radiant panel, which transfers heat by long-wave radiation to the room below it. This paper presents a mathematical model and a sensitivity analysis. The mathematical model was used to analyze radiant panel temperature, radiant mean temperature, operative temperature and panel surface area. Results of the sensitivity study showed that when solar radiation rises (from 200 to 800 W) panel temperature increases from 36 °C to 92 °C, whereas variations in outside and inside air temperature have a negligible impact on the panel temperature. Thus, the use of SIRASOL is possible in locations with clear skies. Moreover, from panel temperature values we calculated mean radiant temperature and thereby the room’s operative temperature, which is proportional to the radiant panel area. When this area is 50% of the room’s floor area, operative temperature grows 3.1 °C higher than inside air temperature when solar radiation is 500 W/m2. The analysis shows that a thermal asymmetry appears only when SIRASOL’s surface area to floor area ratio is higher than 32%.  相似文献

Large-area integrated modules of flexible plastic type dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) have been fabricated based on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) film for practical applications such as ubiquitous power sources. From the view point of improving durability, composition of organic solvent-based electrolytes has been investigated. As a result, a plastic DSC module using LiI-free electrolyte maintained its energy conversion efficiency of 2% over 220 h under the accelerated condition of 55 °C and 95% relative humidity.  相似文献

A conceptual design and performance of a dual-purpose solar continuous adsorption system for domestic refrigeration and water heating is described. Malaysian activated carbon and methanol are used as the adsorbent–adsorbate pair. The heat rejected by the adsorber beds and condensers during the cooling process of the refrigeration part is recovered and used to heat water for the purpose of domestic consumption. In a continuous 24-h cycle, 16.9 MJ/day of heat can be recovered for heating of water in the storage tanks. In the single-purpose intermittent solar adsorption system, this heat is wasted. The total energy input to the dual-purpose system during a 24-h operation is 61.2 MJ/day and the total energy output is 50 MJ/day. The latter is made up of 44.7 MJ/day for water heating and 5.3 MJ/day for ice making. The amount of ice that can be produced is 12 kg/day. Using typical value for the efficiency of evacuated tube collector of water heating system of 65%, the following coefficient of performances (COP's) are obtained: 44% for adsorption refrigeration cycle, 73% for dual-purpose solar water heater, 9.1% for dual-purpose solar adsorption refrigeration and 82.1% for dual-purpose of both solar water heater and refrigerator.  相似文献
