ABSTRACT: The aim of the present work was to evaluate the association between fish consumption and the development of left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients who have had an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). During 2006 to 2009, 934 consecutive ACS patients were included in the study; 437 patients who developed LVSD, 347 male (64 ± 13 y) and 90 female (71 ± 12 y), and 497 patients with preserved systolic function, 388 male (62 ± 12 y) and 109 female (66 ± 12 y). Detailed information regarding their medical records, anthropometric data, physical activity, and smoking habits were recorded. Nutritional habits were assessed using a semiquantitative food-frequency questionnaire. Multi-adjusted analysis revealed that moderate fish consumption was associated with 53% (95% CI: 0.22 to 0.97) lower likelihood of developing left ventricular systolic dysfunction, compared to no/rare consumption, after adjustment for various confounding factors. Furthermore, moderate fish consumption was associated with lower values of the endogenous nitric oxide synthase inhibitor asymmetric dimethylarginine ( P = 0.05) and oxidized LDL cholesterol ( P = 0.02) in patients who did not develop left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Moderate fish consumption seems to offer significant protection against the development of systolic dysfunction in post ACS patients, merely attributed to its beneficial effect on oxidation process and endothelial function. 相似文献

Natural herbal medications may be one answer to the worldwide epidemic of obesity. This study examines the effects of Cassia seed ethanol extract (CSEE) upon lipid accumulation in white adipose tissue (WAT). CSEE exhibited a significant concentration-dependent decrease in the intracellular accumulation of trigycerides in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. After being fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 2 weeks, rats were fed CSEE (100, 200 or 300 mg/kg) once daily for 8 weeks. CSEE caused dose-related reductions in body weight gain (as well as plasma lipid levels and epididymal WAT sizes in HFD-fed rats). CSEE enhanced the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and its primary downstream targeting enzyme, acetyl-CoA carboxylase, up-regulated gene expression of carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1, and down-regulated sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 and fatty acid synthase protein levels in epididymal WAT of HFD-fed rats. CSEE could attenuate lipid accumulation in WAT via AMPK signaling pathway activation. 相似文献

High‐fat Diet‐induced Intestinal Hyperpermeability is Associated with Increased Bile Acids in the Large Intestine of Mice 下载免费PDF全文
Metabolic syndrome is characterized by low‐grade chronic systemic inflammation, which is associated with intestinal hyperpermeability. This study examined the effects of 3 high‐fat diets (HFDs) composed of different fat sources (soybean oil and lard) on the intestinal permeability, tight junction (TJ) protein expression, and cecal bile acid (BA) concentrations in mice, and then analyzed their interrelations. C57/BL6 mice were fed the control diet, HFD (soybean oil), HFD (lard), and HFD (mix; containing equal concentrations of soybean oil and lard) for 8 wk. Glucose tolerance, intestinal permeability, TJ protein expression, and cecal BA concentration were evaluated. Feeding with the 3 HDFs similarly increased body weight, liver weight, and fat pad weight, and induced glucose intolerance and intestinal hyperpermeability. The expression of TJ proteins, zonula occludens‐2 and junctional adhesion molecule‐A, were lower in the colons of the 3 HFD groups than in the control group (P < 0.05), and these changes appeared to be related to intestinal hyperpermeability. Feeding with HFDs increased total secondary BA (SBA) and total BA concentrations along with increases in some individual BAs in the cecum. Significant positive correlations between intestinal permeability and the concentrations of most SBAs, such as deoxycholic acid and ω‐muricholic acids, were detected (P < 0.05). These results suggest that the HFD‐induced intestinal hyperpermeability is associated with increased BA secretion. The abundance of SBAs in the large intestine may be responsible for the hyperpermeability. 相似文献

High hydrostatic pressure causes physical stress to microorganisms; therefore, this technology may be applied to food pasteurization without introducing the unfavorable effects of thermal denaturation. However, its application is limited to high‐value foods because the treatment requires a robust steel vessel and expensive pressurization equipment. To reduce these costs, we studied the pasteurization of Saccharomyces cerevisiae using relatively moderate high‐pressure levels. A mutant strain isolated by ultraviolet mutagenesis showed significant loss of viability under high‐pressure conditions. Gene expression analysis of the mutant strain revealed that it incurred a deletion of the COX1 gene. Our results suggest that the pressure‐sensitivity can readily be introduced into industrial/food microorganisms by complementing a COX1 deleted mitochondria. 相似文献

We examined the effects of concentrate-to-forage ratio in dairy cow rations on milk-fat composition, with a specific focus on the structure of milk fat globules (MFG). Twenty-four Holstein cows, 153 d in milk, were assigned to 2 dietary treatments in a crossover design study. Treatments were (1) high-concentrate (65%), low-forage (35%; HCLF) diet and (2) low-concentrate (35%), high-forage (65%; LCHF) diet. The mean diameter of the MFG; plasma concentrations of insulin, glucose, and nonesterified fatty acids (FA); and the composition and concentrations of milk FA and polar lipids were determined. Concentrations of insulin were 56% higher, and those of nonesterified FA 46% lower, in the HCLF than in the LCHF diet. The milk yield was 8.5 kg/d higher and yields of fat, protein, and lactose were 180, 350, and 403 g/d higher, respectively, in the HCLF versus LCHF diet. Milk FA composition differed between treatments, with 1.5 and 1.0 percentage units higher saturated and polyunsaturated FA concentrations, respectively, in the HCLF versus LCHF diet. Mean MFG diameter tended to be smaller (0.2 μm) in the HCLF diet than in the LCHF diet, associated with increased daily phospholipids yield (34%), lower phosphatidylserine and higher phosphatidylcholine concentrations. In conclusion, the decreased milk and fat yields in the LCHF diet were associated with remodeling of the MFG membrane and with the secretion of larger MFG. Membrane remodeling of the mammary epithelium membranes seems to play a role in regulating MFG size. 相似文献
