采用一阶摄动理论分析了准线性光传输系统的非线性相位噪声,在此基础上得出中置光学相位共轭器的准线性光传输系统的非线性相位噪声的方差的理论表达式,并围绕理论推导得出的非线性相位噪声的性能参数进行数值计算。计算结果表明在光放大器和传输系统的终点到光学相位共轭器等距的情况下,采用光学相位共轭器的色散补偿光传输系统可以完全消除非线性相位噪声对非线性系数的一阶影响。  相似文献

Taking into account the influence of group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and the nonlinear Kerr effect, the nonlinear amplification of the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise in fiber transmission systems using optical phase conjugation (OPC) is studied. Under a path-averaged power approximation for long-haul transmission systems, an equivalent system is developed to evaluate ASE noise amplification and accumulation in OPC systems. Combining the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, the noise suppression effect in OPC systems is demonstrated and discussed. By using the numerical calculation method, the power variation along the system is involved in the evaluation of noise amplification. It is shown that the power variation through the system results in an imperfect compensation of the modulation instability (MI) effect, which furthermore causes the degradation of the noise suppression performance in OPC systems with anomalous dispersion.  相似文献

Laser mode partition noise is an important source of noise in optical transmission systems operating with multimode lasers and dispersive fibres, e.g. single-mode fibres with non-zero material dispersion. The letter describes investigations which confirm the importance of considering laser mode partition noise when practical optical systems are projected. It also gives theoretical estimations and measurement results which are in good agreement, and demonstrates the influence of laser mode partition noise on the transmission quality of an analogue optical system.  相似文献

There are several applications of highly coherent semiconductor lasers, especially in coherent optical-fibre communications systems and optical-fibre sensors. Optical phase noise is extremely important in these applications. Here we report preliminary results from a simple technique whereby phase noise in semiconductor lasers may be reduced. Initial results demonstrate a phase-noise reduction of typically 20 dB. Developments of the technique should permit reduction towards the shot noise limit.  相似文献

The soliton optical phase stability versus amplified spontaneous noise is investigated in a recirculation loop experiment in the presence of in-line filters. The behavior of phase fluctuations is shown to be in good agreement with numerical simulations. The phase standard deviation is kept below 0.15×π for distances up to 8000 km. We, therefore, demonstrate the feasibility of phase-shift keying on solitons for long-haul transmission systems  相似文献

This article presents an accurate numerical approach to statistically characterize filtered phase noise, usually encountered in the analysis of heterodyne optical fiber communication receivers. Filtered phase noise is generated by simulation. Generated samples are used to estimate the probability density functions and moment generating functions of phase noise random variables. The proposed approach is valid for large as well as small phase noise. Furthermore, it comes close to providing analytical expressions for the computed statistical measures.  相似文献

The statistical characterization of the phase noise introduced by a semiconductor laser in a coherent optical transmission system is a key problem in the system performance evaluation. The authors consider the moment characterization, of the complex random process. Starting from the implicit representation of the probability density function through the Fokker-Planck equation, the authors obtain closed form analytical expressions for the moments of the filtered phase noise both in stationary and nonstationary conditions. Coherent optical links enable high-density constellations and, consequently, a higher throughput. However, the phase noise associated with the transmitter and the receiver lasers is a challenging issue in coherent lightwave systems. The authors present an approach that relies on using digital signal processing techniques to compensate for the laser phase-noise effects. The proposed approach exploits the digital processing power to address the problems arising from optical imperfections. The authors present an adaptive filtering scheme that reduces the effect of the laser phase noise and, consequently, relaxes the laser linewidth requirement. The proposed approach shows how the signal processing techniques can be exploited to compensate for the optical impairments by utilizing the continuing scale down in size and power in very large scale integration (VLSI) technology.  相似文献

Phase noise mechanisms in integrated LC voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) using MOS transistors are investigated. The degradation in phase noise due to low-frequency bias noise is shown to be a function of AM-PM conversion in the MOS switching transistors. By exploiting this dependence, bias noise contributions to phase noise are minimized through MOS device sizing rather than through filtering. NMOS and PMOS VCO designs are compared in terms of thermal noise. Short-channel MOS considerations explain why 0.18-/spl mu/m PMOS devices can attain better phase noise than 0.18-/spl mu/m NMOS devices in the 1/f/sup 2/ region. Phase noise in the 1/f/sup 3/ region is primarily dependent upon the upconversion of flicker noise from the MOS switching transistors rather than from the bias circuit, and can be improved by decreasing MOS switching device size. Measured results on an experimental set of VCOs confirm the dependencies predicted by analysis. A 5.3-GHz all-PMOS VCO topology demonstrates measured phase noise of -124 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset and -100dBc/Hz at 100-kHz offset while dissipating 13.5 mW from a 1.8-V supply using a 0.18-/spl mu/m SiGe BiCMOS process.  相似文献

In coherent optical subcarrier multiplexing (CSCM) systems, the laser phase noise may cause signal spectrum broadening and hence, causes significant deterioration in the system performance. The impact of phase noise on the CSCM system is analyzed in terms of carrier-to-noise ratio, intermodulation distortion, and adjacent channel crosstalk. Laser phase noise (LPN) plays an important role in optical coherent systems. Based on the algorithm of Viterbi-Viterbi carrier phase estimation (CPE), the effects of LPN imposed on the coherent receivers are investigated for quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8 phase shift keying (8PSK) and 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) optical coherent systems, respectively. The simulation results show that the optimal block length in the phase estimation algorithm is a tradeoff between LPN and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), and depends on the level of modulation formats. The resolution requirements of analog to digital converter (ADC) in the coherent receivers are independent of LPN or the level of modulation formats. For the bit error rate (BER) of 10-3, the required bit number of ADC is 6, and the gain is marginal for the higher resolution.  相似文献

在使用前向抽运喇曼放大器的相干光正交频分复用传输系统中,由于喇曼抽运的强度噪声和交叉相位调制之间相互作用产生相对相位噪声,导致系统性能大幅下降。为了研究此问题,采用数值分析方法进行了理论分析与实验验证,分析了不同的调制格式下,相对相位噪声对相干光正交频分复用系统的影响,并且比较了正交频分复用多载波系统与单载波系统在相同条件下的系统性能,取得了由相对相位噪声所导致的系统损伤程度数据。结果表明,抽运和信号之间相对较大的离散系数有助于抑制相对相位噪声引起的损伤,高阶调制信号比低阶信号对相对相位噪声耐受性低;频谱相同效率时,正交幅度调制格式比相移键控耐受性更好。  相似文献

采用光学非线性混合和可调光延迟方法,抑制激光线宽引起的低速相位噪声,提出并证明了全光的相位噪声抑制方案.采用原始信号的相位共轭和两个窄线宽光泵浦,抑制了激光线宽引起的相位噪声.仿真结果表明,对于具有相同激光线宽的40Gbit/s正交相移键控信号,其误差矢量幅度可从30%优化到14%.  相似文献

The phase noise generated from traveling-wave semiconductor optical amplifiers is measured. It is found that the phase noise is strongly correlated with the intensity noise and has bandwidth of 600 MHz. Phase-noise formulas are derived for semiconductor optical amplifiers to explain such phase-noise characteristics. It is shown that the phase noise is induced by the carrier density fluctuation associated with the intensity noise and the spontaneous carrier recombination. For the coherent heterodyne DPSK system, the phase noise, instead of the intensity noise, is found to be the limiting factor on the number of repeater amplifiers  相似文献

The required frequency spacings between channels in an optical frequency division multiplexing (FDM) network are considered. The minimum permissible spacings consistent with meeting bit error rate (BER) objectives are derived. The assumed transmission uses on-off keying (OOK), at a data rate 1/T (in bits per second), via external modulation of a laser source having linewidth β (in hertz). The assumed receiver consists of an optical channel selection filter followed by a p-i-n photodiode and a postdetection integrate-and-dump circuit. The analysis estimates the adjacent channel interference (ACI)-induced floor on BER for the middle of three FDM channels, as a function of frequency spacing and linewidth-to-bit rate ratio (βT). For BER=10-9 and βT ranging from 0.32 to 5.12, the required channel spacing ranges from 5.2 to 27.5 bit rates. The multiplying factors associated with using (wide-deviation) frequency shift keying (FSK), coherent (heterodyne) detection, and infinitely many FDM channels, respectively, are estimated to be 2.0, at most 3.0, and at most 1.37  相似文献

The benefits of coding for an optical communication system that employs binary on-off keying and heterodyne detection are quantified. The system is impaired by laser phase noise as well as by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). A receiver structure especially designed to mitigate the effects of phase noise in the presence of AWGN is assumed. This special receiver structure requires a wider-band front-end IF filter than would be required for a phase-noise-free signal. The results, computed for several different coding schemes, indicate that the benefits of coding are large and the costs are small. For a linewidth-to-bit-rate ratio (βT) of 0.64 (for example, 45 Mb/s and 29 MHz linewidth), a half-rate binary code that can correct 3 bit errors provides a 50% reduction in the required IF filter bandwidth (and, therefore, the required IF) and about 5 dB of reduction in required laser power. The benefits of coding are greatest under high-βT conditions, corresponding to low bit rates where coders and decoders are most practical to implement  相似文献

Performance analysis for a hybrid subcarrier-multiplexed (SCM) AM/QAM transmission over an optical fiber is presented. It is shown that the bit-error-rate (BER) of M-ary QAM in such hybrid systems can be significantly affected due to occasional laser “clipping” of the SCM signal. Here we analytically determine the asymptotic distribution of the clipping noise by modeling it as a Poisson impulse train. The BER of M-ary QAM is then evaluated in terms of optical modulation indices of M-ary QAM and AM signals which in turn specify signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), impulsive index (clipping index) of the clipping noise, and power ratio of the Gaussian noise to the clipping noise. Numerical examples are given and compared with experimental data with reasonably good agreement for small SNR's. The results have application for estimating the BER's of digital signals for SCM analog/digital transmission over an optical fiber and for employing appropriate error correction codes and/or optimum receiver design for such environments  相似文献
