阐述了越流系统水流运动规律研究的必要性,介绍了该领域的国内外研究现状,对越流系统研究方法及模型的建立、低渗非达西流的存在性、低渗非达西流的判据以及有关低渗非达西流的模型与运动方程等问题进行了评述,指出越流与低渗非达西流的耦合问题是今后越流系统水流运动规律研究的一个重要的发展方向,需要从不同的空间尺度和时间尺度两方面对越流系统中水流的非达西作用以及固结、弹性储释水等对水流的影响开展研究。  相似文献

The issue of the groundwater fluctuation due to tidal effect in a two-dimensional coastal leaky aquifer system has attracted much attention in recent years. The predictions of head fluctuation play an important role in dealing with groundwater managements and contaminant remediation problems in costal aquifers. This article presents a two-dimensional analytical model describing the groundwater flow in a coastal leaky aquifer of wedge shape affected by the tides and bounded by two estuarine rivers with an arbitrary included angle. The solution of the model is derived in the Polar coordinates by the Hankel transform and finite sine transform. The head fluctuation predicted by this new solution is compared with that by an existing solution for groundwater flow in a non-L shaped tidal aquifer. The groundwater fluctuation due to the joint effect of estuarine tides is explored based on the present solution. Moreover, the influences of the parameters such as diffusion (Di), included angle (Ф), and tidal river coefficients (K1, K2) on the head fluctuation in the aquifer are also assessed and discussed. The results demonstrate that those parameters have significant effects on the head fluctuation in the leaky confined aquifer system. Moreover, the effect of Di increases with Ф, and the effects of K1 and K2 on the normalized amplitude and phase lag of the groundwater fluctuation are significant when both parameter values are larger than 10?5.  相似文献

The sustainability index (SI) is a relatively new concept for measuring the performance of water resource systems over long time periods. Its definition is aimed at providing an indication of the integral behaviour of the system with regards to possible undesired consequences if misbalance of available and required waters occurs. SI is initially defined as a product and later reformulated as a geometric mean of performance indicators: reliability, resilience and vulnerability. As an extension of a recently published methodology to compute and use SI, in this paper we propose introducing two more indicators of system performance: (1) reliability of annual firm (safe) water as a system yield and (2) deviation of reservoir levels from corresponding rule curves. The last indicator is of particular importance if there are multi-purpose reservoirs in the system because reservoirs are the most important and sensitive regulators of the water regime within the system. We also propose a framework for assessing system performance in a systematic manner to compute SI at various locations within the system if different operating strategies are applied and, finally, how to evaluate strategies according to the resulting SI by using multi-criteria methods. A case study example from Serbia is used to illustrate the results of measuring sustainability under alternative operating scenarios for a system with three reservoirs and two diversion structures.  相似文献

This paper investigates tide-induced groundwater fluctuation and submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) in a leaky inhomogeneous coastal aquifer system with an upper unconfined aquifer, a lower confined aquifer, and an aquitard between them. The upper left aquifer is formed due to land reclamation. The SGD defined as the groundwater flow from land into the sea is controlled mainly by the hydraulic gradient between land and sea. An analytical expression is developed to discuss and assess the effect of inhomogeneity on the groundwater head fluctuation in the leaky aquifer system. Joint effects of aquifers’ parameters such as leakage and hydraulic diffusivity on the groundwater head fluctuation and SGD are investigated. The predicted results from the analytical expression indicate that the groundwater head fluctuation in both unconfined and confined aquifers is dependent on dimensionless leakages and increases with dimensionless hydraulic diffusivity.  相似文献

Sediment flushing in many reservoirs of the world is accomplished with low efficiency. In this study, a new configuration was proposed for reservoir bottom outlet to increase the pressurized flushing efficiency. In the new configuration, a projecting semi-circular structure was connected to the upstream edge of bottom outlet. It was observed that by employing the projecting bottom outlet, the sediment removal efficiency increased significantly compared to the flushing via typical bottom outlet. In the case of new-configuration bottom outlet with L sc /D outlet  = 5.26 and D sc /D outlet  = 1.32, the dimensionless length, width and depth of flushing cone increased 280%, 45% and 14%, respectively, compared to the reference test. The proposed structure can ensure the sustainable use of reservoirs.  相似文献

Abstract

Hurricane Mitch caused extensive damage to water supply systems (WSS) on the Northwest Coast of Honduras in October. The WSS of four communities were evaluated to determine the effects of the flooding and landslides that occurred during and after the hurricane. Water resource managers were interviewed to determine the WSS reconstruction policy in use at present in order to formulate improvements in this methodology for the future. In this paper, these policy improvements are divided into technical, health-related, socioeconomic, and legal issues. Water main destruction was the most common type of damage. In the future, water mains should be constructed outside of streambed and off steep slopes. Poor water quality results from the four communities suggest that the use of chlorinators, sediment traps, and sand filters must be mandatory in the future. Given that water mains represent some 39 to 52 percent of the cost of a stream- or spring-fed WSS, the use of wells can often significantly decrease the cost of a WSS. However, the higher cost of maintenance and energy necessary to run the pump is an expense that the community bears and can represent a heavy financial burden over the lifetime of the WSS. Those communities which have difficulties in negotiating the purchase of the water sources necessary to supply their WSS, often lack legal advice. Regulatory and administrative functions of the National Autonomous Water and Sewage Company (Servicio Autónomo Nacional de Acueductos y Alcantarillado [SANAA]) must be separated into two separate institutions to avoid conflicts of interest. An insufficient number of professionals in the fields of hydrogeology and sanitary engineering have delayed reconstruction efforts. This situation could be improved by providing short course education to existing professionals and paying higher salaries.  相似文献

Mysis diluviana is a major component of prey fish diets in the Great Lakes, so annual production of M. diluviana is important for understanding and modeling energy flow through Great Lakes food webs. However, only three lake-wide measurements of M. diluviana annual production in Lake Ontario are currently available (1971, 1990, 1995). During 2013, lake-wide coverage of Lake Ontario was achieved during four periods from April to November. Annual mean density and biomass of M. diluviana in 2013 were 99?#/m2 (SE: 8) and 318?mg?dw/m2 (SE: 28) – approximately half of values observed in 1990s. M. diluviana comprised 13–30% of offshore zooplankton biomass in each period. Reproduction peaked in fall, with mean brood size of 32 embryos (range: 11–49), at least 10% larger than in 1990s. Generation time was two years from embryo to initial reproduction. Growth rates were 0.052?mm/d for the age-0 cohort and 0.027?mm/d for the age-1 cohort. Age-0 growth rate was significantly higher than in 1980s–90s (0.035?mm/d). Annual production in 2013 was 0.85?g?dw/m2/yr (SE: 0.03) which was 30–40% of values observed in 1990 and 1995 (2.23 and 2.53?g/m2/yr). Annual production to biomass ratio (P/B) in 2013 was 2.65?/yr which was 80–85% of values observed in 1990 and 1995 (3.24 and 3.11?/yr), but this difference was not statistically significant. Our results suggest that changes in annual production over time can be estimated using changes in biomass over time and a mean P/B ratio.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

To assess the sustainability of rural gravity-fed water schemes on Idjwi Island, the association between four hypothesized drivers of sustainability – perceived sense of ownership, willingness to pay for maintenance, trust in the water committee, and household involvement in the project – and service reliability, the main outcome variable, was analyzed. Primary data were gathered through in-person surveys of 1253 user households. The results provide two significant insights. First, during the 5–10 years after implementation, in the presence of an external intervention, a lower perceived sense of ownership for the water system was associated with higher service reliability. This stands in contrast with much of the existing literature, which outlines a consistent positive association between sense of ownership and sustainability of rural water systems. Second, despite 77% of beneficiaries stating that they were willing to pay for maintenance service, such contributions were not forthcoming, due to lack of trust in the water committee. In this scenario, almost 42% of the water points are reported as non-functional, 5–10 years after completion.  相似文献

Water demand prediction (WDP) is the basis for water allocation. However, traditional methods in WDP, such as statistical modeling, system dynamics modeling, and the water quota method have a critical disadvantage in that they do not consider any constraints, such as available water resources and ecological water demand. This study proposes a two-stage approach to basin-scale WDP under the constraints of total water use and ecological WD, aiming to flexibly respond to a dynamic environment. The prediction method was divided into two stages: (i) stage 1, which is the prediction of the constrained total WD of the whole basin (T w ) under the constraints of available water resources and total water use quota released by the local government and (ii) stage 2, which is the allocation of T w to its subregions by applying game theory. The WD of each subregion (T s ) was predicted by calculating its weight based on selected indicators that cover regional socio-economic development and water use for different industries. The proposed approach was applied in the Dongjiang River (DjR) basin in South China. According to its constrained total water use quota and ecological WD, T w data were 7.92, 7.3, and 5.96 billion m3 at the precipitation frequencies of 50%, 90%, and 95%, respectively (in stage 1). Industrial WDs in the domestic, primary, secondary, tertiary, and environment sectors are 1.08, 2.26, 2.02, 0.44, and 0.16 billion m3, respectively, in extreme dry years (in stage 2). T w and T s exhibit structures similar to that of observed water use, mainly in the upstream and midstream regions. A larger difference is observed between T s and its total observed water use, owing to some uncertainties in calculating T w . This study provides useful insights into adaptive basin-scale water allocation under climate change and the strict policy of water resource management.  相似文献

A significant amount of energy is required to operate pressurised water distribution systems, and therefore, improving their efficiency is crucial. Traditionally, more emphasis has been placed on operational losses (pumping inefficiencies, excess leakage or friction in pipes) than on structural (or topographic) losses, which arise because of the irregular (unchangeable) terrain on which the system is located and the network’s layout. Hence, modifying the network to adopt an ecologically friendly layout is the only way to reduce structural losses. With the aim of improving the management of water distribution systems and optimising their energy use, this work audits and classifies water networks’ structural losses (derived from topographic energy), which constitutes the main novelty of this paper. Energy can be recovered with PATs (pumps as turbines) or removed through PRVs (pressure reducing valves). The proposed hydraulic analysis clarifies how that energy is used and identifies the most suitable strategy for improving efficiency as locating the most suitable place to install PRVs or PATs. Two examples are discussed to illustrate the relevance of this analysis.

A methodology for the estimation of household potable water saving due to internally plumbed rainwater tanks (IPT) is presented in this paper. The methodology is based on a pairwise comparison of household water billing data between homes with IPT and without rainwater tanks (No Tank). These savings were compared with estimations using measured end use data and rainwater demand predictions using the Rainwater TANK model. The paper describes the application of this methodology to a case study in the south-east Queensland (SEQ) region of Australia. There was a significant reduction in mains water consumption for IPT properties in all regions studied in SEQ. Water reductions from mains supplies varied markedly across regions with mean values ranging from 20 to 95 kL/hh/y with an average mean of 50 kL/hh/y. Median water consumption values, ranged in mains water reductions from 28 to 52 kL/hh/y, with an average median of 40 kL/hh/y. Considering both measures an average water saving between 40 and 50 kL/hh/y can be expected from internally plumbed rainwater tanks. Water restrictions appear to have a strong influence on estimated reductions in mains water use. In regions where water restrictions were severe, water consumption was less varied between No Tank and IPT homes with a consequent reduction in estimated savings observed. Recommendations for further work include a survey to capture confounding factors that could not be fully controlled in the desktop study and a controlled pairwise experiment to monitor water consumption from raintanks.  相似文献

The upstream migration of adult anadromous salmonids in the Columbia River Basin (CRB) has been dramatically altered and fish may be experiencing energetically costly delays at dams. To explore this notion, we estimated the energetic costs of migration and reproduction of Yakima River‐bound spring Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha using a sequential analysis of their proximate composition (i.e., percent water, fat, protein, and ash). Tissues (muscle, viscera, and gonad) were sampled from fish near the start of their migration (Bonneville Dam), at a mid point (Roza Dam, 510 km upstream from Bonneville Dam) and from fresh carcasses on the spawning grounds (about 100 km above Roza Dam). At Bonneville Dam, the energy reserves of these fish were remarkably high, primarily due to the high percentage of fat in the muscle (18–20%; energy content over 11 kJ g?1). The median travel time for fish from Bonneville to Roza Dam was 27 d and ranged from 18 to 42 d. Fish lost from 6 to 17% of their energy density in muscle, depending on travel time. On average, fish taking a relatively long time for migration between dams used from 5 to 8% more energy from the muscle than faster fish. From the time they passed Bonneville Dam to death, these fish, depending on gender, used 95–99% of their muscle and 73–86% of their visceral lipid stores. Also, both sexes used about 32% of their muscular and very little of their visceral protein stores. However, we were unable to relate energy use and reproductive success to migration history. A nonlinear stochastic self-exciting threshold autoregressive (SETAR) model and a chaotic k-nearest neighbour (k-nn) model, for the first time, were compared in one and multi-step ahead daily flow forecasting for nine rivers with low, medium, and high flows in the western United States. The embedding dimension and the number of nearest neighbours of the k-nn model and the parameters of the SETAR model were identified by a trial-and-error process and a least mean square error estimation method, respectively. Employing the recursive forecasting strategy for the first time in multi-step forecasting of SETAR and k-nn, the results indicated that SETAR is superior to k-nn by means of performance indices. SETAR models were found to be more efficient in forecasting flows in one and multi-step forecasting. SETAR is less sensitive to the propagated error variances than the k-nn model, particularly for larger lead times (i.e., 5 days). The k-nn model should carefully be used in multi-step ahead forecasting where peak flow forecasting is important by considering the risk of error propagation.  相似文献

Modeling river mixing mechanism in terms of pollution transmission in rivers is an important subject in environmental studies. Dispersion coefficient is an important parameter in river mixing problem. In this study, to model and predict the longitudinal dispersion coefficient (D L ) in natural streams, two soft computing techniques including multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) as a new approach to study hydrologic phenomena and multi-layer perceptron neural network as a common type of neural network model were prepared. To this end, related dataset were collected from literature and used for developing them. Performance of MARS model was compared with MLP and the empirical formula was proposed to calculate D L . To define the most effective parameters on D L structure of obtained formula from MARS model and more accurate formula was evaluated. Calculation of error indices including coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE) for the results of MARS model showed that MARS model with R2?=?0.98 and RMSE?=?0.89 in testing stage has suitable performance for modeling D L . Comparing the performance of empirical formulas, ANN and MARS showed that MARS model is more accurate compared to others. Attention to the structure of developed MARS and the most accurate empirical formulas model showed that flow velocity, depth of flow (H) and shear velocity are the most influential parameters on D L .  相似文献

The AquaCrop model was analyzed for simulating sugar beet crop production under four irrigation regimes, three mulching conditions and three furrow irrigation systems in semi-arid region of Pakistan. Irrigation regimes were full irrigation (FI), 20% deficit irrigation (DI20), 40% deficit irrigation (DI40) and 60% deficit irrigation (DI60). The mulching practices were No-mulch (NM), black film mulch (BFM) and straw mulch (SM). The furrow irrigation systems were conventional ridge-furrow (CRF) system, medium raised-bed (MRB) system and wide raised-bed (WRB) system. The model was calibrated and validated using the independent data sets of full irrigation and deficit irrigation regimes collected during 2011–12 cropping season. The model performance was evaluated by using different statistical indicators such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), index of agreement (dindex), and Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE). These indicators showed that the model fairly simulated sugar beet canopy cover for all treatments with 3.00 ≤ RMSE ≤ 16.89, 0.84 ≤ dindex ≤ 0.97, and 0.76 ≤ NSE ≤ 0.99. For biomass and root yield, the model performance was excellent under all full irrigation (FI) and mild deficit irrigation (DI20) treatments with RMSE ranged between 0.07 and 1.17, dindex between 0.48 and 0.84, and NSE between 0.42 and 0.86, respectively. However the low values of dindex (0.10 and 0.13) and NSE (?69.32 and ?30.63) showed that the model overestimated both the biomass and root yield when 20% deficit irrigation was applied without mulch in WRB system. The model also over estimated the yield and biomass when 40% deficit irrigation was applied in CRF system. The highest overestimation (dindex: 0.10 to 0.11; NSE: ?50.92 to ?70.55) was observed when highest stress level (DI60) was applied in the presence of BFM in CRF system. Based on the model’s overall performance, the AquaCrop application is recommended for developing efficient farm water management strategies in the semi-arid regions.  相似文献
