The problem of scheduling in two different types of flowshops (all jobs available at time zero, different job availability times known a priori) and in flowline-based manufacturing cells is considered with the objective of minimizing the sum of weighted flowtime and weighted tardiness of jobs. First, heuristic preference relations are developed by the consideration of lower bounds on the completion times, operation due-dates, and weights for holding and tardiness of jobs. A heuristic algorithm for scheduling is then proposed by making use of the heuristic preference relations. Two more heuristic algorithms are developed by implementing an improvement scheme to enhance the quality of the solution given by the first heuristic algorithm. The proposed and the existing heuristics are evaluated with respect to the three problem classes under consideration by solving a large number of randomly generated problems. The results of an extensive computational investigation for various problem sizes are presented. It has been observed that all three proposed heuristics perform better than the existing heuristics in giving a solution of superior quality and that the first proposed heuristic yields a good solution by requiring a negligible CPU time. In addition, an experimental investigation is carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the improvement scheme when implemented in the existing heuristics, and also the effectiveness of heuristics based on simulated annealing. The results are discussed in detail.  相似文献

In this paper we address the problem of scheduling jobs in a permutation flowshop with a just-in-time objective, i.e. the minimisation of the sum of total tardiness and total earliness. Since the problem is NP-hard, there are several approximate procedures available for the problem, although their performance largely depends on the due dates of the specific instance to be solved. After an in-depth analysis of the problem, different cases or sub-problems are identified and, by incorporating this knowledge, four heuristics are proposed: a fast constructive heuristic, and three different local search procedures that use the proposed constructive heuristic as initial solution. The proposed Prod. Type: FLPheuristics have been compared on an extensive set of instances with the best-so-far heuristic for the problem, as well as with adaptations of efficient heuristics for similar scheduling problems. The computational results show the excellent performance of the proposed algorithms. Finally, the positive impact of the efficient heuristics is evaluated by including them as seed sequences for one of the best metaheuristic for the problem.  相似文献

In this paper we address a hybrid flow shop scheduling problem considering the minimization of the sum of the total earliness and tardiness penalties. This problem is proven to be NP-hard, and consequently the development of heuristic and meta-heuristic approaches to solve it is well justified. So, we propose an ant colony optimization method to deal with this problem. Our proposed method has several features, including some heuristics that specifically take into account both earliness and tardiness penalties to compute the heuristic information values. The performance of our algorithm is tested by numerical experiments on a large number of randomly generated problems. A comparison with solutions performance obtained by some constructive heuristics is presented. The results show that the proposed approach performs well for this problem.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the generalized job shop scheduling problem with due dates wherein the objective is to minimize total job tardiness. An efficient heuristic algorithm called the revised exchange heuristic algorithm (REHA) is presented for solving this problem. It has been shown that the algorithm can be completed in polynomial time. Results, generated over a range of shop sizes with different due date tightness levels, indicate that the proposed technique is capable of yielding notable reductions in total tardiness (over initial schedules) for practical size problems. This suggests that this approach is an efficient scheduling option for this class of complex optimization problems.  相似文献

A neuro-dominance rule (NDR) for single machine total weighted tardiness problem with unequal release date is presented by the author. To obtain the NDR, backpropagation artificial neural network (BPANN) has been trained using 10,000 data and also tested using 10,000 another data. Inputs of the trained BPANN are starting date of the first job (t), processing times (pi and pj), due dates (di and dj), weights of the jobs (wi and wj) and ri and rj release dates of the jobs. Output of the BPANN is a decision of which job should precede. Training set and test set have been obtained using Adjusted Pairwise Interchange method. The proposed NDR provides a sufficient condition for local optimality. It has been proved that if any sequence violates the NDR then violating jobs are switched according to the total weighted tardiness criterion. The proposed NDR is compared to a number of competing heuristics (ATC, COVERT, EDD, SPT, LPT, WDD, WSPT, WPD, CR, FCFS) and meta heuristics (simulated annealing and genetic algorithms) for a set of randomly generated problems. The problem sizes have been taken as 50, 70, 100. NDR is applied 270,000 randomly generated problems. Computational results indicate that the NDR dominates the heuristics and meta heuristics in all runs. Therefore, the NDR can improve the upper and lower bounding schemes.  相似文献

We consider the NP-hard problem of scheduling jobs on a single machine against common due dates with respect to earliness and tardiness penalties. The paper covers two aspects: Firstly, we develop a problem generator and solve 280 instances with two new heuristics to obtain upper bounds on the optimal objective function value. Secondly, we demonstrate computationally that our heuristics are efficient in obtaining near-optimal solutions for small problem instances. The generated problem instances in combination with the upper bounds can be used as benchmarks for future approaches in the field of common due-date scheduling.Scope and purposeIn connection with just-in-time production and delivery, earliness as well as tardiness penalties are of interest. Thus scheduling against common due dates has received growing attention during the last decade. Many algorithms have been developed to solve the different variants of this problem. But whenever a new algorithm for scheduling against common due dates is proposed, its quality is assessed only on a few self-generated examples. Hence it is difficult to evaluate the various approaches, particularly in comparison with each other. Therefore the goal of this paper is to present numerous benchmark problems together with some upper bounds on the optimal objective function value.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the single machine scheduling problem with quadratic earliness and tardiness costs, and no machine idle time. We propose several dispatching heuristics, and analyse their performance on a wide range of instances. The heuristics include simple and widely used scheduling rules, as well as adaptations of those rules to a quadratic objective function. We also propose heuristic procedures that specifically address both the earliness and the tardiness penalties, as well as the quadratic cost function. Several improvement procedures were also analysed. These procedures are applied as an improvement step, once the heuristics have generated a schedule.  相似文献

In most deterministic scheduling problems job processing times are considered as invariable and known in advance. Single machine scheduling problem with controllable processing times with no inserted idle time is presented in this study. Job processing times are controllable to some extent that they can be reduced or increased, up to a certain limit, at a cost proportional to the reduction or increase. In this study, our objective is determining a set of compression/expansion of processing times in addition to a sequence of jobs simultaneously, so that total tardiness and earliness are minimized. A mathematical model is proposed firstly and afterward a net benefit compression–net benefit expansion (NBC–NBE) heuristic is presented so as to acquire a set of amounts of compression and expansion of jobs processing times in a given sequence. Three heuristic techniques in small problems and in medium-to-large instances two meta-heuristic approaches, as effective local search methods, as well as these heuristics are employed to solve test examples. The single machine total tardiness problem (SMTTP) is already NP-hard, so the considered problem is NP-hard obviously. The computational experiments demonstrate that our proposed heuristic is efficient approach for such just-in-time (JIT) problem, especially equipped with competent heuristics.  相似文献

This paper focuses on scheduling jobs with different processing times and distinct due dates on a single machine with no inserted idle time as to minimize the sum of total earliness and tardiness. This scheduling problem is a very important and frequent industrial problem that is common to most just-in-time production environments. This NP hard scheduling problem is herein solved using a hybrid heuristic which combines local search heuristics (dispatching rules, hill climbing and simulated annealing) and an evolutionary algorithm based on genetic algorithms. The heuristic involves low and high, relay and teamwork hybridization. Computational results reflect the sizeable solution quality improvement induced by hybridization, and assess the impact of each type of hybridization on the efficiency of the hybrid heuristic.  相似文献

A heuristic for job shop scheduling to minimize total weighted tardiness   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
This paper considers the job shop scheduling problem to minimize the total weighted tardiness with job-specific due dates and delay penalties, and a heuristic algorithm based on the tree search procedure is developed for solving the problem. A certain job shop scheduling to minimize the maximum tardiness subject to fixed sub-schedules is solved at each node of the search tree, and the successor nodes are generated, where the sub-schedules of the operations are fixed. Thus, a schedule is obtained at each node, and the sub-optimum solution is determined among the obtained schedules. Computational results on some 10 jobs and 10 machines problems and 15 jobs and 15 machines problems show that the proposed algorithm can find the sub-optimum solutions with a little computation time.  相似文献

We consider a two-machine re-entrant flowshop scheduling problem in which all jobs must be processed twice on each machine and there are sequence-dependent setup times on the second machine. For the problem with the objective of minimizing total tardiness, we develop dominance properties and a lower bound by extending those for a two-machine re-entrant flowshop problem (without sequence-dependent setup times) as well as heuristic algorithms, and present a branch and bound algorithm in which these dominance properties, lower bound, and heuristics are used. For evaluation of the performance of the branch and bound algorithm and heuristics, computational experiments are performed on randomly generated instances, and results are reported.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the single machine earliness/tardiness scheduling problem with job-independent penalties, and no machine idle time. Several dispatching heuristics are proposed, and their performance is analysed on a wide range of instances. The heuristics include simple scheduling rules, as well as a procedure that takes advantage of the strengths of each of those rules. We also consider early/tardy dispatching procedures, and a heuristic method based on existing adjacent precedence conditions. An improvement procedure that can be used to improve the schedules generated by the heuristics is also proposed.

The computational tests show that the best results are given by the early/tardy dispatching rules. These heuristics are also quite fast, and are capable of quickly solving even very large instances. The use of the improvement procedure is recommended, since it improves the solution quality, with little additional computational effort.  相似文献

The problem of scheduling N jobs on M uniform parallel machines is studied. The objective is to minimize the mean tardiness or the weighted sum of tardiness with weights based on jobs, on periods or both. For the mean tardiness criteria in the preemptive case, this problem is NP-hard but good solutions can be calculated with a transportation problem algorithm. In the nonpreemptive case the problem is therefore NP-hard, except for the cases with equal job processing times or with job due dates equal to job processing times. No dominant heuristic is known in the general nonpreemptive case. The author has developed a heuristic to solve the nonpreemptive scheduling problem with unrelated job processing times. Initially, the algorithm calculates a basic solution. Next, it considers the interchanges of job subsets to equal processing time sum interchanging resources (i.e. a machine for a given period). This paper models the scheduling problem. It presents the heuristic and its result quality, solving 576 problems for 18 problem sizes. An application of school timetable scheduling illustrates the use of this heuristic.  相似文献

This paper attempts to solve a single machine‐scheduling problem, in which the objective function is to minimize the total weighted tardiness with different release dates of jobs. To address this scheduling problem, a heuristic scheduling algorithm is presented. A mathematical programming formulation is also formulated to validate the performance of the heuristic scheduling algorithm proposed herein. Experimental results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm can solve this problem rapidly and accurately. Overall, this algorithm can find the optimal solutions for 2200 out of 2400 randomly generated problems (91.67%). For the most complicated 20 job cases, it requires less than 0.0016 s to obtain an ultimate or even optimal solution. This heuristic scheduling algorithm can therefore efficiently solve this kind of problem.  相似文献

Since Johnson׳s seminal paper in 1954, scheduling jobs in a permutation flowshop has been receiving the attention of hundreds of practitioners and researchers, being one of the most studied topics in the Operations Research literature. Among the different objectives that can be considered, minimising the total tardiness (i.e. the sum of the surplus of the completion time of each job over its due date) is regarded as a key objective for manufacturing companies, as it entails the fulfilment of the due dates committed to customers. Since this problem is known to be NP-hard, most research has focused on proposing approximate procedures to solve it in reasonable computation times. Particularly, several constructive heuristics have been proposed, with NEHedd being the most efficient one, serving also to provide an initial solution for more elaborate approximate procedures. In this paper, we first analyse in detail the decision problem depending on the generation of the due dates of the jobs, and discuss the similarities with different related decision problems. In addition, for the most characteristic tardiness scenario, the analysis shows that a huge number of ties appear during the construction of the solutions done by the NEHedd heuristic, and that wisely breaking the ties greatly influences the quality of the final solution. Since no tie-breaking mechanism has been designed for this heuristic up to now, we propose several mechanisms that are exhaustively tested. The results show that some of them outperform the original NEHedd by about 25% while keeping the same computational requirements.  相似文献

A tabu search algorithm for order acceptance and scheduling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We consider a make-to-order production system, where limited production capacity and order delivery requirements necessitate selective acceptance of the orders. Since tardiness penalties cause loss of revenue, scheduling and order acceptance decisions must be taken jointly to maximize total revenue. We present a tabu search algorithm that solves the order acceptance and scheduling problem on a single machine with release dates and sequence dependent setup times. We analyze the performance of the tabu search algorithm on an extensive set of test instances with up to 100 orders and compare it with two heuristics from the literature. In the comparison, we report optimality gaps which are calculated with respect to bounds generated from a mixed integer programming formulation. The results show that the tabu search algorithm gives near optimal solutions that are significantly better compared to the solutions given by the two heuristics. Furthermore, the run time of the tabu search algorithm is very small, even for 100 orders. The success of the proposed heuristic largely depends on its capability to incorporate in its search acceptance and scheduling decisions simultaneously.  相似文献

This research proposes a heuristic and a tabu search algorithm (TSA) to find non-dominated solutions to bicriteria unrelated parallel machine scheduling problems with release dates. The two objective functions considered in this problem are to minimize both makespan and total weighted tardiness. The computational results show that the proposed heuristic is computationally efficient and provides solutions of reasonable quality. The proposed TSA outperforms other algorithms in terms of the number of non-dominated solutions and the quality of its solutions.  相似文献

The Aerial Refueling Scheduling Problem (ARSP) can be defined as determining the refueling completion times for fighter aircrafts (jobs) on multiple tankers (machines) to minimize the total weighted tardiness. ARSP can be modeled as a parallel machine scheduling with ready times and due date-to-deadline window to minimize total weighted tardiness. ARSP assumes that the jobs have different ready times and a due date-to-deadline window between refueling due date and a deadline to return without refueling. In this paper, we first formulate the ARSP as a mixed integer programming model. The objective function is a piece-wise tardiness cost that takes into account due date-to-deadline windows and job priorities. Since ARSP is NP-hard, two heuristics are proposed to obtain solutions in reasonable computation times, namely (1) modified ATC rule (MATC), (2) a simulated annealing method (SA). The proposed heuristic algorithms are tested in terms of solution quality and CPU time through computational experiments with data randomly generated to represent aerial refueling operations of an in-theater air operation. Solutions provided by both algorithms were compared to optimal solutions for problems with up to 12 jobs and to each other for larger problems with up to 60 jobs. The results show that, MATC is more likely to outperform SA especially when the problem size increases, although it has significantly worse performance than SA in terms of deviation from optimal solution for small size problems. Moreover CPU time performance of MATC is significantly better than SA in both cases.  相似文献

This paper introduces new problem-size reduction heuristics for the multidimensional knapsack problem. These heuristics are based on solving a relaxed version of the problem, using the dual variables to formulate a Lagrangian relaxation of the original problem, and then solving an estimated core problem to achieve a heuristic solution to the original problem. We demonstrate the performance of these heuristics as compared to legacy heuristics and two other problem reduction heuristics for the multi-dimensional knapsack problem. We discuss problems with existing test problems and discuss the use of an improved test problem generation approach. We use a competitive test to highlight the performance of our heuristics versus the legacy heuristic approaches. We also introduce the concept of computational versus competitive problem test data sets as a means to focus the empirical analysis of heuristic performance.  相似文献

The present paper studies the single machine, no-idle-time scheduling problem with a weighted quadratic earliness and tardiness objective. We investigate the relationship between this problem and the assignment problem, and we derive two lower bounds and several heuristic procedures based on this relationship. Furthermore, the applicability of the time-indexed integer programming formulation is investigated. The results of a computational experiment on a set of randomly generated instances show (1) the high-quality results of the proposed heuristics, (2) the low optimality gap of one of the proposed lower bounds and (3) the applicability of the integer programming formulation to small and medium size cases of the problem.  相似文献
