Much of oil‐filled (OF) cable has been used for a long time as 66‐ to 500‐kV extrahigh‐voltage cable. Sometimes we can see extremely degraded tan δ oil (several tens of percent of tan δ, for example) in joint boxes, etc. The values of tan δ calculated by a simple combination model of paper/oil show that the oil‐impregnated paper with such a high tan δ oil likewise has an extremely high tan δ, which must result in thermal breakdown. However, such an event has not taken place up to the present in actually operated transmission lines. This fact suggests that some mechanism for the suppression of tan δ has acted in the paper insulation impregnated with degraded tan δ oil. Therefore, we investigated in detail the tan δ characteristics of paper impregnated with extremely high tan δ oil. In addition, based on the investigation results, we developed a method for simulation of heat generation by dielectric loss in an OF cable joint (which has degraded tan δ oil). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of partial discharges in benzyltoluene upon impregnated polypropylene films has been studied in a sphere/plane electrode geometry. It is shown that discharges even with a small apparent charge (~1 pC) cause a significant decrease of the breakdown strength of the film. The addition of an epoxy compound to the liquid notably reduces the film degradation characterized by the breakdown voltage, in spite of the increase of the repetition rate and apparent charge of the discharges  相似文献

The properties of space charge and breakdown in epoxy/paper composites are studied in this paper. The results show that the breakdown voltage of the epoxy/paper composite is lower than that of the epoxy under AC voltage but is higher under DC voltage. In order to explain this phenomenon, the space charge behavior is investigated. In epoxy/paper composites, the space charges easily accumulate at the epoxy/paper interface at low fields, and the electric field distribution is highly deformed. However, the amount of interface charges decreases with increasing voltage, leading to a more uniform field distribution in the composites. This behavior is different from that of the pure epoxy, resulting in the different breakdown properties of pure epoxy and epoxy/paper composites. © 2015 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. The formation of space charge in oil/paper insulation system can lead to material degradation in the region of high electric field. Therefore, it is important to understand the factors that affect space charge formation in oil/paper insulation system. In this paper, the effect of oil aging on space charge dynamics in oil/paper insulation system is investigated using the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) technique under a DC electric field at room temperature. The ultraviolet/visible (UV/vis) spectrum of the oil shifts to longer wavelengths, and the oil acidity increases as the aging time increases. It has been found that the oil property has a significant effect on the space charge distribution in the oil/paper insulation sample. The more the deterioration of the oil, the larger amount of negative and positive charges accumulated in the bulk of the oil/paper insulation sample. The total amount of slow moving charges, the surface trap energy density, and the electric field distortion of the oil/paper insulation sample increased with the degree of deterioration due to oil aging. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. In response to growing environmental concerns, we attempted to develop switchgear without using SF6 gas. In our research, we used compressed air and pure N2 as an electrical insulation gas, because of their low global warming potential. In this paper, we examined the impulse breakdown and impulse partial discharge characteristics under various conditions related to nonuniformity of the electric field. The experimental results show that the breakdown voltage (BDV) of air is higher than that of pure N2 gas under highly nonuniform field conditions in the rod–plane gap. On the other hand, the discharge inception voltage of air and N2 were almost the same. Furthermore, first partial discharge (PD), leader discharge, and its transition to the breakdown were successfully observed through the measurement of discharge current and light emissions under impulse voltage application. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of a thin insulation film on breakdown phenomena in liquid nitrogen in the presence of thermally induced bubbles is investigated with a cylinder‐to‐plane electrode. Bubbles were produced by a heater mounted in the cylinder, which is partially covered with an insulation film. The results show that the film's effect on the breakdown voltage is insignificant until a pore is formed on the film by a previous breakdown, but it becomes substantial after pore formation. The reduction rate in breakdown voltage after the pore formation depends on the gap length and heater power. The minimum breakdown voltage drops to the magnitude of the breakdown voltage in the gaseous phase at normal boiling temperature. 为了提取表征胶浸纸(RIP)绝缘受潮状态的特征参量,文中将时域介电响应技术应用于受潮状态评估,并利用极化/去极化电流(PDC)测量法对其进行深入研究。首先在实验室制备不同含水量的RIP绝缘样片并测试获得PDC曲线;然后引入遗传算法和内点法相结合的优化算法,利用Matlab获得扩展德拜模型参数;最后提取2个受潮状态特征参量,即最大时间常数分支的弛豫贡献系数A9和稳定去极化电量Qd-5000。研究结果表明:PDC曲线随含水量的增加整体向上移动;受潮造成RIP绝缘的直流电导率增加,绝缘电阻、吸收比和极化指数显著降低;建立的9支路扩展德拜模型等效电路参数对RIP绝缘受潮状态的反应较为灵敏,A9与含水量呈线性拟合关系;去极化电量对含水量较为敏感,Qd-5000与含水量呈指数拟合关系。  相似文献

Superheterodyne spectrum analyzer (SA) has been widely used for receiving EM waves emitted from partial discharge (PD) because of its high sensitivity. Generally, resolution bandwidth is shown as a measurement parameter because the pulse response depends on the receiver's bandwidth. In this paper, we measure the impulse bandwidth of SA and describe the effect of the impulse bandwidth of SA on the measurement of EM waves emitted from PD in multipath‐rich environment. The results showed that the field strength of the EM waves emitted from PD is proportional to the impulse bandwidth higher than about 200 kHz and signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) increases with the impulse bandwidth as in the measurement of pulsed RF signals. © 2011 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Inorganic fillers were added to epoxy resin for preparing micro and nano filler/epoxy composite, and then the breakdown strengths, depths of erosion caused by partial discharge, and electrical tree experiments of composites were investigated. It was found that the loading of micro fillers usually decreases the short‐time breakdown strength (breakdown under a continuously rising voltage) of the composites. On the contrary, it increases the ability to withstand long‐time electrical aging (erosion or breakdown caused by electrical tree under a discontinuously rising voltage or constant voltage) of the composites. The effect of inorganic fillers in suppressing the electrical tree or erosion channel propagation in the composite is different during the process of withstanding short‐time breakdown and long‐time electrical aging. Defects are introduced during the mixing of fillers and epoxy resin, which play a role to decrease the short‐time breakdown strength and accelerate long‐time electrical aging. It is concluded that micro and nano inorganic fillers can suppress the electrical tree channel propagation and erosion caused by partial discharge, whereas defects play the opposite role in composites. Two opposite effects of inorganic fillers and defects exist simultaneously during the process of electrical aging and breakdown; whereas inorganic fillers play a primary role in long‐time electrical aging, defects play a primary role in short‐time breakdown.  相似文献

One of the serious problems that can occur in power XLPE cables is destruction of insulator. The best and conventional way to prevent this is ascertaining partial corona discharges occurring at small voids in organic insulators. However, there are some difficulties in detecting those partial discharges due to the existence of external noise in detected data, whose patterns are hardly identified at a glance. For this reason, there have been a number of researches into detecting partial discharges by employing a neural network (NN) system, which is widely known as a system for pattern recognition. We have been developing an NN system for auto‐detection of partial discharges, and have input numerical data of the waveform itself and obtained appropriate performance. In this paper, we employed the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to acquire more detailed transformed data in order to use them in the NN system. Employing the DWT, we were able to express the waveform data in time–frequency space, and achieved effective detection of partial discharges by the NN system. We present herein the results using DWT analysis for partial discharges and noise signals which we obtained. Moreover, we present results out of the NN system which dealt with those transformed data. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper describes the dielectric breakdown characteristics of oil and oil‐impregnated paper for very fast transient (VFT) voltages. Blumlein circuits generate VFT voltages of 60 and 300 ns in a pulse width that simulates disconnecting switching surges in gas‐insulated switch gears. We measured the breakdown voltages of needle‐to‐plane, plane‐to‐plane oil gaps and several pieces of paper between plane electrodes for VFT and lightning impulse voltages. The measured data were formulated in V‐t characteristics and Weibull probability distributions. The inclination n of V‐t characteristics of insulating paper is 150, which is less than n = 13.7 of the plane‐to‐plane oil gap in the VFT time range. The shape parameters of Weibull distribution obtained in this study show that the scattering of breakdown voltages of paper is much less than that of oil. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Failure of oil‐filled‐type (OFT) power transformers usually results in very big losses comprising the loss of the transformer itself as well as production loss in industry. Most of the energy lost in OFT transformers, induced by faults, will become heat at a location close to the fault, which then becomes a hot spot. The detection of hot spots in OFT transformers can be an effective way for transformer fault location and diagnosis. As the OFT transformer enclosure is completely sealed and is opaque, to date there is no effective way to find out hot spots in them. It is known that ultrasonic energy can be transmitted into the sealed transformer enclosure which is filled with the fluid, and ultrasonic waves can be affected by the temperature of the materials they propagate through; so the ultrasonic method can be a possible method for hot spot detection. In this paper, we describe a study on the possibility of developing a method to detect hot spots in an environment filled with a fluid, simulating a transformer. Trails using a different times‐of‐flight (TOFs) evaluation techniques and attenuation measurement of the ultrasonic energy propagated were carried out, which showed encouraging results for locating the hot spot as well as measuring the hot spot temperature in fluids; we also discuss the possibility of applying these results to the diagnosis of OFT transformers eventually. © 2011 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. To achieve a rational insulation design for transformers, it is important to evaluate dielectric strength against surges actually impinging on equipment on‐site. This paper deals with the breakdown voltage characteristics of an oil gap under nonstandard lightning surge waveforms combined with oscillatory voltages. It is found that the breakdown voltages of the oil gap under nonstandard impulse waveforms are higher than standard lightning impulse voltages. Power capacitors are highly reliable due to their completely enclosed configuration. They are relatively trouble-free over the long term. However, their dielectric strength can be reduced due to some stresses, including overvoltage application or thermal degradation of the insulation material during long periods of operation; these events can result in dielectric breakdown of capacitors in extreme cases. Since almost all power capacitors with oil-impregnated paper have been operated for more than twenty years, some kind of failure should be expected. To prevent these incipient accidents, it is important to examine the insulation deterioration mechanism and evaluate the degree of deterioration before capacitor breakdown. To establish a diagnostic method of deterioration of the capacitors with oil-impregnated paper, we have conducted thermally and electrically accelerated deterioration tests and investigated the changes of their characteristics. Based on the experimental results we obtained, it can be concluded that the behavior of the oil-dissolved gases can be used as a useful index to diagnose the insulation deterioration of these capacitors.  相似文献

To investigate the reliability of equipment of vacuum insulation, a study was carried out to clarify breakdown probability distributions in a vacuum gap. Further, a double‐break vacuum circuit breaker was investigated for breakdown probability distribution. The test results show that the breakdown probability distribution of the vacuum gap can be represented by a Weibull distribution using a location parameter, which shows the voltage that permits a zero breakdown probability. The location parameter obtained from Weibull plot depends on electrode area. The shape parameter obtained from Weibull plot of vacuum gap was 10 to 14, and was constant irrespective of the nonuniform field factor. The breakdown probability distribution after no‐load switching can be represented by Weibull distribution using a location parameter. The shape parameter after no‐load switching was 6 to 8.5, and was constant irrespective of the gap length. This indicates that the scatter of the breakdown voltage was increased by no‐load switching. If the vacuum circuit breaker uses a double break, the breakdown probability at low voltage becomes lower than the single‐break probability. Although the potential distribution is a concern in the double‐break vacuum circuit breaker, its insulation reliability is better than that of the single‐break vacuum interrupter even if the bias of the vacuum interrupter's sharing voltage is taken into account. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Partial discharge (PD) within voids in solid insulating systems is a symptom and/or a direct cause of a deterioration of stator windings of a turbine generator. The bandwidth of the electromagnetic waves emitted from PD is very broad and ranges to the gigahertz. We developed a new system based on the spatial phase difference method for detecting microwaves (GHz) emitted from PD. In this paper we applied this system to two off‐line turbine generators in the overhaul and an on‐line turbine generator which has two built‐in antennas. On‐line PD detection of the turbine generator is very useful for recognizing abnormal and/or deteriorated stator winding insulation without a machine outage. Switching operations in gas insulated switchgear (GIS) can generate very fast transient overvoltages (VFTO) which propagate in the GIS with little attenuation. When a transformer is directly connected to the GIS through a gas/oil bushing, the VFTO can enter the transformer and excite the voltage oscillation in the windings. In the paper, we firstly show a resonance phenomenon due to the superposition of the traveling waves which was found in the experiments using the coil windings of a 500 kV transformer. The fundamental resonance frequency ranged at about 2 MHz, and its voltage at the interturn (turn‐to‐turn) of the coil could reach 0.25 times of the applied voltage in the worst case. Secondly, the electrical breakdown properties of interturn insulation in oil were studied, applying the unipolar and bipolar voltages with 2 MHz oscillatory frequency. The breakdown voltages at the unipolar and bipolar VFT oscillatory stresses were about 1.25 and 1.40 times higher than that at the standard lighting impulse, respectively.
