1. Pharmacokinetic properties of difloxacin have been studied in pig and chicken after intravenous and oral administration. 2. The serum concentrations of difloxacin in pig and chicken after intravenous administration were best described by a two-compartment open model, giving distribution half-lives of 0.50 and 0.66 h and elimination half-lives of 7.92 and 4.10 h for pig and chicken respectively. The steady-state distribution volumes were 1.70 and 3.06 l/kg for pig and chicken respectively. 3. After oral administration of 5 mg/kg to pig and chicken, the serum concentrations reached maximal levels of 3.61 and 0.96 microg/ml respectively at 1.25 and 1.40 h. The elimination half-lives were 11.8 and 7.35 h for pig and chicken respectively. 4. The bioavailabilities of difloxacin were calculated as 93.7 (pig) and 86.9% (chicken).  相似文献

Records of five inbred lines at the Livestock and Range Research Laboratory were used to evaluate effects of inbreeding and heterozygosity on preweaning traits. Members of each line were descendants of a single founder Hereford bull. A total of 8,065 records of birth weight and 7,380 records of preweaning daily gain and weaning weight were analyzed by derivative-free REML using a model that included fixed effects of sex, combination of year and month of birth and parity of dam, with covariates for direct and maternal genetic fractions of inheritance from the genetic groups, inbreeding, and heterozygosity fractions. Heterozygosity fractions were computed for crosses between lines. The random model effects were direct and maternal genetic and uncorrelated maternal permanent environmental and temporary environmental. Direct inbreeding and heterozygosity fractions averaged .098 and .343, and maternal inbreeding and heterozygosity fractions averaged .075 and .294. Regression coefficients of traits on direct and maternal inbreeding fractions were -5.8 +/- 1.1 and -4.7 +/- 1.3 for birth weight, -.189 +/- .031 and -.252 +/- .039 for preweaning daily gain, and -44.5 +/- 6.6 and -56.1 +/- 8.4 kg for weaning weight. Estimates for direct heritability, maternal heritability, and direct-maternal genetic correlations were .37, .12, and -.01 for birth weight; .16, .25, and -.27 for daily gain; and .17, .26, and -.21 for weaning weight. Results suggest that heterosis represents recovery of accumulated inbreeding depression. Results also indicate that selection can overcome inbreeding depression and antagonism exists between direct and maternal genetic effects for preweaning traits.  相似文献

The authors examined the associations between marital conflict and children's relationships with siblings and peers. Mothers' and fathers' hostility toward children and children's interpretations of parents' marital conflict (self-blame and feeling threatened) were investigated as mediators between marital conflict and children's sibling and peer relationships. The sample included 136 intact 2-child families. Children were 7 and 10 years old. Data were collected from observations of marital and family interaction and from family members' reports. Results showed that marital conflict was associated with problematic sibling and peer relationships. Both maternal and paternal hostility mediated the associations between marital conflict and sibling relationships. The link between marital conflict and sibling rivalry was also mediated by children's feelings of self-blame for their parents' conflict. Fathers' hostility toward children mediated the association between marital conflict and children's problematic peer relationships. Investigated changes in intimate friendship with same- and opposite-sex friends in preadolescence and adolescence, using the Intimacy Scale. Ss were Israeli children from the 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grades (60 boys and 60 girls from each grade), who rated their friendship with a same- or opposite-sex best friend. There was a significant age difference in overall intimacy with same-sex friends. Frankness and spontaneity, knowing and sensitivity, attachment, exclusiveness, and giving and sharing were factors that changed with age. Trust and loyalty, and taking and imposing did not. Opposite-sex friendship revealed a significant increase in intimacy with age. Boys and girls did not differ in reported opposite-sex friendship in the 5th and 7th grades, whereas girls in the 9th and 11th grades reported higher intimacy than did boys. This sex-by-age pattern of interaction was particularly evident for attachment and for trust and loyalty. Girls were higher in knowing and sensitivity, giving and sharing, and taking and imposing. The implications for further differentiation among types of peer relations and interrelation of dyadic friendship and cognitive growth are discussed. Reviews the books, Supervision and training: Models, dilemmas and challenges edited by F. W. Kaslow (1986); Handbook of family therapy training and supervision edited by H. A. Liddle, D. C. Breunlin, and R. C. Schwartz (see record 1988-98390-000); and Family therapy education and supervision edited by F. P. Piercy (1986). Kaslow's book uniformly addresses the subject of supervision with some comment on training formats as well. The volume succeeds admirably in realizing the editor's intention of presenting a multiplicity of viable models, and her summary chapter draws common threads together into a patchwork of issues and themes. Liddle, Breunlin, and Schwartz's book is thoughtful and concise, with a nice blend of conceptual and practical material. The book offers the most current overview and bibliography available, useful specific recommendations, and thoughtful organization of its articles. It is praiseworthy in its attention to research, theory, and context and stage-of-training factors in relation to supervision and training. Piercy's book contains chapters which are well presented and offer valuable concrete guidelines; however, overall the material is unfocused, scattered across too many areas, and works best in journal form. All three of the volumes considered in this review serve as compendiums, and in some cases updates, of models for the delivery of training and supervision. There is very little overlap of content among the three, and taken together, they offer intra- and interdisciplinary contrasts of training and supervision that may serve as the starting place for program planning, or for hypothesizing data collection, and theorizing about these two important endeavors. PURPOSE: We investigate the underlying pathophysiological cause of primary nocturnal enuresis by comparing electrolyte alterations in urine samples of enuretics during the daytime and nighttime compared with those of nonenuretic subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Urine output, urine specific gravity and urinary electrolytes in 15 enuretic and 12 nonenuretic children were measured. We collected daytime serum and urine samples of children fed a similar diet between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and nighttime between samples 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Urinary calcium/creatinine ratio, tubular reabsorption of phosphorus and excretions of fractional sodium and potassium were calculated. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the calcium/creatinine ratio ratios. There was a significant increase in fractional sodium and fractional potassium values in enuretics compared to nonenuretics during the day and at night. Daytime and nighttime fractional sodium and fractional potassium values in enuretics were similar. In contrast to nonenuretics, enuretic patients had no diurnal variation of fractional sodium. There was significant positive correlation between bedwetting status, and fractional sodium and fractional potassium. CONCLUSIONS: Since sodium and potassium excretions were higher in enuretic patients than nonenuretic children, and no significant diurnal variation in urinary excretion of these ions there might be a difference in the mechanism of reabsorption of sodium and potassium between enuretic and nonenuretic children.  相似文献

To study the aerobic and anaerobic microbiology of liver and spleen abscesses and correlate the results with predisposing factors, potential causes and routes of infection, clinical and laboratory data of 48 patients with liver abscesses and 29 with spleen abscesses treated between 1970 and 1990 were reviewed retrospectively. In liver abscesses, a total of 116 isolates (2.4 isolates/specimen) was obtained; 43 were aerobic and facultative species (0.9 isolates/specimen) and 73 were anaerobic species or microaerophilic streptococci (1.5 isolates/specimen). Aerobic bacteria only were isolated from 12 (25%) abscesses, anaerobic bacteria only from eight (17%), and mixed aerobic and anaerobic bacteria from 28 (58%); polymicrobial infection was present in 38 (79%). The predominant aerobic and facultative isolates were Escherichia coli (11 isolates), Streptococcus group D (8), Klebsiella pneumoniae (5) and Staphylococcus aureus (4). The predominant anaerobes were Peptostreptococcus spp. (18 isolates), Bacteroides spp. (13), Fusobacterium spp. (10), Clostridium spp. (10) and Prevotella spp. (4). There were 12 isolates of micro-aerophilic streptococci. S. aureus and beta-haemolytic streptococci were associated with trauma; Streptococcus group D, K. pneumoniae and Clostridium spp. with biliary disease; and Bacteroides spp. and Clostridium spp. with colonic disease. In splenic abscesses, a total of 56 isolates (1.9 isolates/specimen) was obtained; 23 were aerobic and facultative species (0.8 isolates/specimen), 31 were anaerobic species or micro-aerophilic streptococci (1.1 isolates/specimen) and two were Candida albicans. Aerobic bacteria only were isolated from nine (31%) abscesses, anaerobic bacteria from eight (28%), mixed aerobic and anaerobic bacteria from 10 (34%) and C. albicans in two (7%); polymicrobial infection was present in 16 (55%). The predominant aerobic and facultative isolates were E. coli (5 isolates), Proteus mirabilis (3), Streptococcus group D (3), K. pneumoniae (3) and S. aureus (4). The predominant anaerobes were Peptostreptococcus spp. (11 isolates), Bacteroides spp. (5), Fusobacterium spp. (3) and Clostridium spp. (3). S. aureus, K. pneumoniae and Streptococcus group D were associated with endocarditis, E. coli with urinary tract and abdominal infection, Bacteroides spp. and Clostridium spp. with abdominal infection and Fusobacterium spp. with respiratory infection.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To compare the distributions of the genotypes and alleles of the M235T polymorphism of the angiotensinogen gene for hypertensive patients and normotensive controls. DESIGN: A study of association of genetic polymorphisms. SETTING: An outpatient clinic run by a university department handling referrals from primary care. PATIENTS: Two hundred and four subjects, 103 normal controls and 101 patients with newly diagnosed or documented hypertension. METHOD: Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood leucocytes, amplified by polymerase chain reaction and digested with the restriction enzyme Tth 111 I. Methionine (M) and threonine (T) alleles were identified after electrophoresis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Prevalences of angiotensinogen genotypes and alleles for hypertensive patients and controls. Results: MM, TM and TT genotypes occurred in 3, 24 and 73% of controls and 1, 22 and 77% of hypertensive patients, respectively. The prevalences of the M and T alleles were 0.15 and 0.85 among controls and 0.12 and 0.88 among hypertensive patients. The prevalences of the angiotensinogen genotypes and alleles for controls and hypertensive patients did not differ significantly. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings differed from previous reports and suggested that this polymorphism is not associated with hypertension in this population.  相似文献

Investigated the hypothesis regarding the multidimensionality of the MA scale and the relationships between the emerged dimensions and college achievement. The scale was administered to 153 male and 107 female freshman undergraduates using a 5-point response scale. The Pearson product-moment correlations were factor analyzed for males and females separately. Factors common to both sexes are tension-anxiety, personal inadequacy, and agitation. Factors for males are hysteria and psychosomatic fitness. Factors for the females are interpreted to be inner tension and betrayal of inner self. Factor scores were correlated with GPA for 123 males and 90 females. Only the correlation between psychosomatic fitness and grades for males was significant. The multiple correlations between the optimal combination of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th factors and grades were .325 and .263 for males and females, respectively. BACKGROUND: Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) affords a less expensive, less morbid approach to masses within the complex anatomy of the mediastinum as opposed to surgical biopsy. Given the current state of computed tomography guidance and the available cell block preparations and ancillary studies, definitive diagnosis of mediastinal tumors is possible. CASE: A 19-year-old male presented with weight loss and muscle weakness. Computed tomography revealed an anterior superior mediastinal mass with attachment to the posterior sternum and anterior aorta. FNAB yielded hyperchromatic cells with densely clumped chromatin and prominent nucleoli. These were present as single cells and clusters. Cell block preparations were studied with immunoperoxidase methods and were strongly positive for chromogranin and glucagon, supporting the diagnosis of carcinoid tumor. Surgical excision yielded a 7-cm, unencapsulated, red-brown tumor with medium-sized cells with oval to round nuclei, scant and granular cytoplasm and coarse "salt and pepper" chromatin with prominent nucleoli. The cells were arranged in islands and bands and were associated with prominent capillaries and dense, collagenous septae. Immunoperoxidase and electron microscopy demonstrated numerous intracytoplasmic, nonspecific neurosecretory granules and positivity for somatostatin, synaptophysin, cytokeratin and chromogranin. CONCLUSION: FNAB affords an accurate and timely diagnosis of an anterior mediastinal tumor without the necessity for open biopsy and also offers accurate surgical planning and decreased morbidity.  相似文献

Antigenic relatedness among human strains of oral Actinomyces and similar isolates from cattle has been analyzed by agglutination and immunoblotting. Whole cell agglutination placed A. viscosus serotype II, A. naeslundii serotypes II and III, Actinomyces NV, and strains from numerical taxomonic clusters C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 into a single group. A. viscosus serotype I cross-reacted weakly with this group. A naeslundii serotype I strains and the cattle isolates Actinomyces denticolens and Actinomyces howellii were distinct. The agglutination results for A. slackii were equivocal. Immunoblots of cell wall extracts developed with non-absorbed sera showed cross-reactivity (23% to 90% antigenic similarity) among all of the strains tested, including A. israelii. The range of antigenic similarities among the group which included strains of A. viscosus serotype II, the A. naeslundii serotypes, and clusters C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 was from 39% to 89%. Immunoblotting showed that A. howellii and A. denticolens were between 39% and 72% similar to A. naeslundii and A. viscosus. Absorption of antisera with A. israelii cell walls removed antibodies recognizing antigens common to Actinomyces and made the sera more specific. Immunoblotting with absorbed sera supported the grouping and separation of strains shown by agglutination. In some cases, serotypes could be included into a specific taxonomic cluster. A. naeslundii serotype II and Actinomyces NV most closely resembled cluster C1 strains, and A. naeslundii serotype III resembled cluster C1 strains, and A. naeslundii serotype I and A. viscosus serotype I were included into clusters C5 and C7, respectively. The results support a recent proposal that strains of A. viscosus serotype II, A. naeslundii serotypes II and III, and Actinomyces NV be included into A. naeslundii genospecies 2, that A. naeslundii serotype I should be designated A. naeslundii genospecies 1, and that A. viscosus serotype I should be retained distinct from A. naeslundii, as A. viscosus.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate dietary habits and nutrient intake of Finnish pregnant women, to relate these to the use of dietary supplements, and to explore possible dietary variations according to age and education. DESIGN: A random dietary survey using two five day estimated food records. SETTING: Pregnant women from 13 maternity clinics in the city of Oulu, Finland. SUBJECTS: One hundred and eighteen pregnant women in their third trimester. MAIN RESULTS: The main sources of energy were cereal products and milk products. The consumption of fish and poultry was low. Women with a higher educational level consumed more vegetables, fruit, fruit juices, and tea and less sausages, inner organs and coffee than women with a lower educational level. Younger women (< 25 y) consumed more sugar and pork and less berries, butter and inner organs than older women. On average 15% of the total energy was supplied by protein, 33% by fats, 52% by carbohydrates, and 12% by sucrose. Compared to the Nordic nutrition recommendations, the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids and the intake of dietary fibre were low and the intake of sugar high. The intakes of vitamins and minerals met or exceeded the recommended allowances, except for vitamin D, folate, and iron. Of the subjects 70% used dietary supplements. With the exception of vitamin D, folate, and iron, both the supplement users and non-users had an adequate nutrient intake from their diet. CONCLUSIONS: A balanced diet covers the increased nutrient requirements during pregnancy, with the exception for vitamin D, folate, and iron. The use of dietary supplements during pregnancy is excessive and partly focused on the wrong nutrients. Young and less educated, and smoking pregnant women need more nutritional guidance.  相似文献

Possible antioxidative properties of three N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonists, the anesthetic ketamine and the antiparkinson drugs memantine and amantadine were investigated in vitro on the microsomal cytochrome P450 (P450) system of rat livers and on rat whole blood chemiluminescence in comparison to nicanartine, a substance with known antiatherosclerotic, hypolipemic and antioxidative capacity. For this purpose, the effects on NADPH- and iron-stimulated lipid peroxidation (LPO), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production, and NADPH- and iron-stimulated lucigenin (LC) and luminol (LM) amplified chemiluminescence (CL) were examined using rat liver microsomes. Additionally, the influence on LM amplified whole blood chemiluminescence after zymosan activation of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (WB-CL) was investigated. Furthermore, binding to P450 and effects on P450 mediated monooxygenase function, as measured by the model reactions ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation (EROD), ethoxycoumarin O-deethylation (ECOD), and ethylmorphine N-demethylation (END), were assessed. Nicanartine concentration dependently reduced LPO and H2O2 production already at a concentration of 1 microM, whereas LC and LM amplified CL and WB-CL were not affected. EROD and END were concentration dependently diminished starting at 1 microM, and ECOD already at 0.1 microM. Ketamine decreased LPO, H2O2 production and LM and LC amplified CL, starting at 100 microM. WB-CL was significantly diminished already at 10 microM. EROD and ECOD were inhibited at 10 and 100 microM and END at 100 microM. With memantine a concentration dependent inhibition of LPO and WB-CL was seen at 100 and 1000 microM and a reduction of LC and LM amplified CL only at 1000 microM. H2O2 production was not affected. EROD and ECOD were significantly diminished by a concentration of 100 microM. No effect was observed on END. Amantadine significantly reduced LPO and WB-CL, but only at 1000 microM. H2O2 production and LC and LM amplified CL were not affected. EROD was significantly diminished at 100 microM, whereas no influence was seen on ECOD and END. Nicanartine displayed type II or reverse type I, ketamine, memantine and amantadine type I substrate binding to P450. The highest binding affinity to P450 was seen with nicanartine, followed by ketamine, memantine and then amantadine. These results demonstrate, that all four substances seem to act as radical scavengers and/or as inhibitors of the oxidative function of P450. All four substances seem to interfere with the monooxygenase function of P450. This may result in a possible influence on the biotransformation of endogenous as well as of foreign compounds. The effects of nicanartine were much more pronounced than those of ketamine, memantine, and amantadine.  相似文献

The relationship between in vitro drug release characteristics from colon delivery systems and in vivo drug absorption was investigated using three kinds of delayed-release systems. 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), tegafur (FT) and carbamazepine (CBZ) were selected as model drugs. Pressure-controlled colon delivery capsules (PCC) for liquid preparations, time-controlled colon delivery capsules (TCC) for liquid and solid preparations and Eudragit S coated tablets for solid preparations were used in this study. At first, in vitro dissolution tests for all preparations were performed. Drug release from solid preparations was delayed compared to that from liquid preparations with all three drugs. Next, these preparations were administered to fasted beagle dogs. For 5-ASA, the mean Cmaxs (peak level) of Eudragit S coated tablets and PCC were 5.52 and 16.89 micrograms ml-1, respectively. The mean Tmaxs (time when drug reached peak level) were 3.0 and 5.3 h. AUCs were 22.57 and 48.09 micrograms.h ml-1, respectively. For FT, Cmaxs of Eudragit S coated tablet and PCC were 0.87 and 1.46 micrograms ml-1, and Tmaxs were 7.0 and 6.7 h, respectively. AUCs were 9.73 and 15.55 micrograms.h ml-1 and bioavailabilities were 43.79 and 70.84%. For CBZ, the mean Cmaxs of liquid preparations and solid preparations were 0.37 and 0.22 micrograms ml-1, respectively. The mean Tmaxs were 4.7 and 4.3 h. AUCs were 0.673 and 0.392 micrograms.h ml-1. With liquid preparations, drug was thought to contact to the colonic membrane easily because of lack of interference by stools, and to be absorbed well as compared with solid preparations. From these findings, drug release from colon delivery systems and drug dissolution in the colonic lumen are very important factors for the systemic availability of drugs from the colon delivery systems.  相似文献

Pharmacokinetics of cationized goat colchicine-specific polyclonal immunoglobulin G (IgG) and antigen binding fragment (Fab) (cIgG and cFab, respectively) were studied in male adult Sprague-Dawley rats and compared with those of the native proteins (nIgG and nFab). All proteins were radioiodinated by the Iodogen method, and kinetics were investigated following trichloroacetic acid (TCA) precipitation or immunoprecipitation. Deiodination and catabolism were more pronounced with the cationized than the native proteins, especially for cFab. Both cIgG and cFab in plasma decreased more rapidly than nIgG and nFab. The elimination half-lives were 52.9 and 81.8 h for cIgG and nIgG, respectively. In addition, there was a 74-fold increase in the volume of distribution and a 114-fold increase in the systemic clearance of cIgG compared with nIgG. For cFab, the volume of distribution and systemic clearance were increased 6.4- and 3.5-fold, respectively. Organ uptake of cIgG and cFab was markedly increased compared with that of nIgG and nFab, especially in kidney, liver, spleen, and lung. Renal clearance of cIgG and cFab was also increased 30- and 10-fold compared with that of nIgG and nFab, respectively. The present data suggest that cationization of colchicine-specific IgG and Fab fragments increased the organ distribution and greatly altered their pharmacokinetics. Nevertheless, the smaller molecular size of Fab versus IgG did not enhance the distribution and clearance of cFab. These data pave the way for evaluating the biological efficacy of these more tissue-organ-interactive antibodies.  相似文献

We used 179,485 Yorkshire reproductive and 239,354 Yorkshire growth records to estimate additive and dominance variances by Method Fraktur R. Estimates were obtained for number born alive (NBA), 21-d litter weight (LWT), days to 104.5 kg (DAYS), and backfat at 104.5 kg (BF). The single-trait models for NBA and LWT included the fixed effects of contemporary group and regression on inbreeding percentage and the random effects mate within contemporary group, animal permanent environment, animal additive, and parental dominance. The single-trait models for DAYS and BF included the fixed effects of contemporary group, sex, and regression on inbreeding percentage and the random effects litter of birth, dam permanent environment, animal additive, and parental dominance. Final estimates were obtained from six samples for each trait. Regression coefficients for 10% inbreeding were found to be -.23 for NBA, -.52 kg for LWT, 2.1 d for DAYS, and 0 mm for BF. Estimates of additive and dominance variances expressed as a percentage of phenotypic variances were, respectively, 8.8 +/- .5 and 2.2 +/- .7 for NBA, 8.1 +/- 1.1 and 6.3 +/- .9 for LWT, 33.2 +/- .4 and 10.3 +/- 1.5 for DAYS, and 43.6 +/- .9 and 4.8 +/- .7 for BF. Carcass measurements of 12th-rib fat thickness (CARCFAT), longissimus muscle area (CARCLMA), and weight (CARCWT) on 2,028 Brangus and Brangus-sired fed steers and heifers, as well as yearling weights (YWT) and ultrasound measures of 12th-rib fat thickness (USFAT) and longissimus muscle area (USLMA) on 3,583 Brangus bulls and heifers were analyzed to estimate genetic parameters. Data were analyzed using a six-trait animal model and an average information REML algorithm. The model included fixed effects for contemporary group and breed of dam, covariates for age at slaughter or measurement, and random animal and residual effects. Heritabilities for CARCFAT, CARCLMA, CARCWT, USFAT, USLMA, and YWT were .27+/-.05, .39+/-.05, .59+/-.06, .11+/-.03, .29+/-.04, and .40+/-.04, respectively. Genetic correlations between CARCFAT and USFAT, CARCLMA and USLMA, and CARCWT and YWT were .69+/-.18, .66+/-.14, and .61+/-.11, respectively. The favorable and moderately strong genetic correlations between carcass measurements and similar yearling breeding-animal ultrasound measurements indicate that such measurements of 12th-rib fat and longissimus muscle area are useful in predicting genetic values for carcass leanness and longissimus muscle area. Selection using yearling ultrasound measurements of breeding cattle should result in predictable genetic improvement for carcass characteristics. Inclusion of yearling ultrasound measurements for fat thickness and longissimus muscle area should enhance national cattle evaluation programs.  相似文献

Carcass and live measurements of 165 market hogs that represented seven genotypes were used to investigate genotype and sex biases associated with the prediction of fat-free lean mass (FFLM) and carcass value. Carcass value was determined as the sum of the product of weight of individual cuts and their average unit prices adjusted for slaughter and processing costs. Independent variables used in the prediction equations included carcass measurements, such as optical probe, midline ruler, ribbed carcass measurements, and electromagnetic scanning (EMSCAN), and live animal ultrasonic scanning. The effect of including subpopulation mean values of independent variables in the prediction equations for FFLM and carcass value was also investigated. Genotype and sex biases were found in equations in which midline backfat, ribbed carcass, EMSCAN, and live ultrasonic scanning were used as single technology sets of measurements. The prediction equations generally undervalued genotypes with above-average carcass value. Biases were reduced when measurements of combined technologies and mean adjusted variables were used. The FFLM and carcass value of gilts were underestimated, and they were overestimated of barrows. Equations that combined OP and EMSCAN technologies were the most accurate and least biased for both FFLM and carcass value. Equations that included carcass weight and midline last-rib backfat thickness measurements were the least accurate and most biased. Genotype and sex biases must be considered when predicting FFLM and carcass value.  相似文献

Selection in three lines of Hereford cattle for 1) weaning weight (WWL), 2) yearling weight (YWL), and 3) an index of yearling weight and muscle score (IXL) was studied. Remnant foundation cows and semen from seven foundation sires were used to establish an unselected control line for the last 11 yr of the experiment. Performance data collected over a 23-yr period on birth weight (BWT), weaning weight (WWT), postweaning gain (PWG), yearling weight (YWT), muscle score (MSC), and an index (IDX) giving equal weight to standard deviations of yearling weight and muscle score were analyzed. Generation interval of midparents was about 4.16 yr in each selected line. Sire and dam selection differentials, in standard deviation units per generation, for primary criteria were, respectively, 1.59 and .33 for WWT in WWL, 1.75 and .25 for YWT in YWL, and 1.42 and .25 for IDX in IXL. Components of direct and maternal genetic variances, direct-maternal covariance, and dam permanent environmental variance were estimated by REML. The average annual response of males and females in actual units for each trait in WWL, YWL, and IXL was, respectively, BWT, .22, .24, and .27 kg; WWT, .98, .63, and 1.26 kg; YWT, 2.43, 2.64, and 3.44 kg; and MSC, .053, .009, and .104 scores. Average selection responses in BWT, WWT, YWT, MSC, and IDX per unit of primary criteria in each selection line (all in standard deviation units) were .22, .20, .31, .10, and .24 for WWT in WWL; .23, .12, .32, .04, and .21 for YWT in YWL; and .27, .22, .40, .20, and .36 for IDX in IXL. Responses in bold type are realized heritability and others are correlated responses. Realized genetic correlations were .78 for WWT and YWT, .87 for WWT and IDX, and .86 for YWT and IDX. Responses for all traits in IXL were greater than in other selected lines.  相似文献
