AbstractMany enterprises encounter difficulty in managing strategic goals and performance measures because of a lack of a systemic and objective procedure and method. Action research was conducted through a case study approach at a mining company to investigate this problem regarding performance measurement and management (PMM) and to identify potential solutions for application. This research proposes a multiple-technique approach (including the Delphi method, analytic network process, system dynamics simulation, dashboard visualization, and radio frequency identification tracking techniques) and a creative implementation framework for overcoming the shortcomings within a case company and those in the relevant performance measurement literature. This study demonstrates a step-by-step approach for establishing a PMM system using a real case example. Furthermore, for sustaining the effectiveness and efficiency of the PMM system, key performance indicators (KPIs) were continually monitored against a changing operational environment through design, measurement, analysis, and improvement processes to address problem areas occurring in the production and maintenance departments of a mining company. The benefits of the PMM system in practice are demonstrated by the outcomes of the mining company, with noticeable improvements observed in many KPIs. 相似文献

This study develops construction-specific determinants and indicators of project management performance based on the 14 knowledge areas of the project management body of knowledge guide. Interrelations among the knowledge areas and influence of these factors on performance are investigated. Data collected from 121 construction projects are analyzed using structural equation modeling. Research findings suggest that project integration, communications, safety, risk, human resources, financial, and cost management have a direct impact, whereas scope and time management have an indirect effect on performance. The findings reported in this study are expected to help construction project managers devise and implement strategies and develop actions to improve project success. An engineering manager can use the framework developed in this research to define the underlying factors of efficient project management practices. 相似文献

Abstract:Enterprise risk management (ERM) has emerged as the new paradigm in risk management with the goal of holistically managing all risks facing an enterprise. Yet organizations still manage risks in a piece-meal fashion and struggle to effectively implement ERM and manage complex strategic risks. This article proposes a solution to this problem: ERM implementation using a system dynamics approach, which enables integrating risks in a causal modeling environment that includes feedback and delays. Electro-discharge deposition (EDD) process is one of the newly developing, nonlithographic additive manufacturing methods to fabricate 3D microproducts. The advantage of the EDD process is that 3D microcomponents can be manufactured from the materials which are electrically conductive in nature. In this paper, a comprehensive attempt to develop a thermophysical model for single discharge deposition process has been reported. Experiments are designed and conducted by central composite design (CCD) and the obtained results are compared with simulation results. Parametric analysis is carried out to study the effects of EDD process parameters like current, pulse-on time, and duty factor on height, width, and weight of deposition. The objective of this research work is to simulate and predict the material deposition mechanism of EDD process in a single pulse. Simulation results are compared with experimental results and it is found that the developed model can predict results which are closer to experimental results. It is concluded from the results that the thermophysical model can be further modified to establish EDD process with optimum process parameters. 相似文献

A statistical approach to model a papermaking process and to control paper basis weight is presented. The process behavior is described by a mathematical model which takes into consideration both the input-output dynamics and disturbances coming into the system. The model building procedure was based on a three-step approach of identification, estimation and diagnostic checking. The disturbance model is accounted for by a discrete time series model, whereas the dynamic model is a discrete transfer function model. The simplicity of the modeling process lies in the fact that only the input-outpul data are necessary without recourse to a complicated analysis of the physical system itself. An optimal control equation was arrived at whereby the basis weight of the paper was to be controlled at a specified target value. Confirmation runs were conducted to check the effectiveness of the control equation. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn recent years, the traditional systems engineering and project management approaches used by the U.S. Government have been ineffective in incorporating complete life cycle impacts and rapidly evolving technologies and operations concepts into large system developments or upgrades. This is particularly true for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Although this article concentrates on large government systems, these shortcomings also apply to the industrial product development process. ABSTRACTThis article examines the concept of concurrent engineering and presents a framework for evaluating its management. The key organizational concepts for managing new product development are first analyzed from a historical perspective. The concurrent engineering approach to new product development is then contrasted with both the traditional sequential and the more recent overlapping problem-solving approaches. Finally, a model for managing current engineering is presented. To develop a lean and green construction industry, Lean Construction (LC) is proposed as a new construction production method to improve the efficient use of resources and the value of construction supply chains, which has received increasing research concerns from scholars and practitioners. Based on related articles covered by the Web of Science and Scopus databases between 1995 and 2014, this study conducts a scientometric analysis. The analysis identifies four core topics in existing research, including: Last Planner System (LPS); production control theory; improvement and evaluation of productivity; and principle of value. Three major directions of LC research: greening LC; Building Information Modeling (BIM) based LC; and lean safety management, are also proposed. Lastly, several recommendations for future LC research and practice are provided in the literature review. 相似文献
