Precise measuring method for detecting the in situ distortion profile of a high-heat-load mirror for synchrotron radiation by use of a pentaprism long trace profiler

A precise measuring method for detecting the in situ distortion profile of a high-heat-load mirror for synchrotron radiation by use of a pentaprism long trace profiler (LTP) is presented. A maximum distortion of 0.47 microm across a length of 180 mm was measured for an internally water-cooled mirror on an undulator beam line at ELETTRA while exposed to a total emitted power of 600 W. This first successfully tested in situ distortion profile points out the importance and need for this method. Two configurations for performing in situ LTP tests are discussed. For this measurement the configuration with all the equipment external to the vacuum chamber was used. The experiment has an accuracy and a repeatability of 0.04 microm. Suggestions for improving the accuracy and stability are presented.     

Improvements of the ray trace through the generalized Luneburg lens

An analytical expression for the gradient of the generalized Luneburg lens is found and applied to the computation of the profile and the gradient of the refractive index.     

Guaranteed accuracy in electrical measurements

Conclusions It will be easier to provide the necessary accuracy in electrical measurements if researches are performed on additional switched compensation for high-voltage measuring transformers, with subsequent modification of the standards for such transformers. This would eliminate excessive consumption of materials in making measurement transformers and also in the leads connecting them to the recording instruments.At the same time, adjustments are needed to the standards as regards the scale and periods of the check on such transformers.Translated from Izmeritel'naya Tekhnika, No. 1, pp. 77–78, January, 1975.

Increasing the accuracy of phase measurements in humidity monitoring instruments

An analysis is performed of existing methods of measuring phase shifts, in which it is proposed to use a principle of additive correction to reduce the instrumental error arising on realizing generator methods of monitoring humidity. A scheme for an instrument is developed that provides for realizing this principle and substantially improves the reliability of humidity monitoring.
