The effect of condensed tannins (CT) from heated and unheated cottonseed on the apparent ileal digestibility of amino acids for the growing rat and pig was determined. In Expt 1, twenty-four rats were allocated to four semi-purified diets which contained cottonseed kernel and hulls as the only protein source. Two of the diets contained unheated solvent-extracted cottonseed kernel and hulls, while the remaining two diets contained similar material but which had been heat-treated by autoclaving at 110 degrees for 120 min. In Expt 2, twelve rats and twelve pigs were fed on four semi-purified diets containing commercial cottonseed meal (CSM) as the only protein source. Cr2O3 was added to all diets as an indigestible marker. For each pair of diets in both experiments, PEG was either included or excluded. The effect of CT was assessed by comparing control animals (-PEG; CT acting) with PEG-supplemented animals (+PEG; CT inactivated). Ileal contents from the terminal 150 and 450 mm of ileum were collected at slaughter, 7 h from the start of feeding, for the rats and pigs respectively. Apparent ileal amino acid digestibility for rats fed on the diet containing cottonseed kernel and hulls was significantly depressed by the heat treatment, particularly for lysine and threonine. On average, apparent ileal amino acid digestibility in the diets without PEG was decreased from 0.80 to 0.70 by heat treatment. Dietary cottonseed CT depressed apparent ileal protein digestibility in the pig and in the rat. The addition of PEG to the diets significantly increased the apparent ileal digestibility of N and some amino acids for the pigs and the rats. The mean increase in apparent ileal digestibility due to PEG addition for the fourteen amino acids was 2 percentage units in both species fed on the commercial CSM diets, and 2 or 4 percentage units in rats fed on the unheated or the heated cottonseed kernel and hull diets respectively. The effect of PEG was similar in the heated and unheated cottonseed kernel and hulls for most amino acids, but apparent ileal digestibilities of threonine, tyrosine and lysine were increased more by PEG in heated than in unheated CSM. Apparent ileal N digestibility was lower in the pig than in the rat. For several of the amino acids there were significant animal species differences in apparent ileal digestibility. Studies into the effects of cottonseed CT should be carried out in the target animal species. The commercial CSM had a low apparent ileal amino acid digestibility overall, particularly for the essential amino acids lysine and threonine. It was concluded that effects of heating did not eliminate the reversible reactivity of cottonseed CT on amino acid digestion in rats and pigs but rather appeared to increase it for threonine, tyrosine and lysine in Expt 1, causing large reductions in apparent ileal digestibility of these amino acids.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of feeding chicks 1=9 days of age various levels of clycine in corn-casein and corn-soybean-corn gluten meal diets upon the subsequent glycine plus serine requirement of chicks during the remaining 10-21 day feeding period. Chicks in Experiment 1 fed corn-casein basal diets with 1.3% additional dietary glycine (2.15% total glycine plus serine) gained significantly (P less than or equal to 0.01) more weight during an initial 9-day feeding period than chicks fed basal diets with 0.3% and 0.9% supplemental glycine. Chicks fed the 2.15% glycine plus serine diets during the first 9 days posthatching and then fed basal diets containing 0.3% supplemental glycine (1.15% total glycine plus serine) for a 10-21 day feeding period gained weight equivalent to chicks fed 2.15% glycine plus serine diets for the entire 21-day period. The corn-casein basal diet contained 21.0% protein and 0.85% glycine plus serine. Chicks in Experiment 2 fed corn-soybean-corn gluten meal diets containing 1.8% glycine plus serine did not respond to glycine supplementation druing the initial 9-day feeding period or the 10-23 day feeding period. The results suggest feeding optimum levels of glycine to chicks during the first nine days after hatching decreases the requirement of glycine and serine during subsequent feeding periods.  相似文献

Twenty-four multiparous Holstein cows were randomly assigned at calving to treatment diets using a modified split-plot design to determine the effects of protein source on milk production and composition. The treatment diets consisted of an 80:20 combination of corn and alfalfa silages and whole cottonseed at 12% of the dietary dry matter (DM). The treatment diets were formulated to contain 17% crude protein (CP) and 20% acid detergent fiber on a DM basis. One of the following sources of supplemental CP was included in each treatment diet: 1) cottonseed meal, 2) cottonseed meal plus a rumen-undegradable protein (RUP) supplement, 3) soybean meal, and 4) soybean meal plus an RUP supplement. Cows were fed the initial treatment diet for 6 wk and then were switched to the other oilseed meal source but continued to receive the same amount of RUP during the second period of the study. Milk production and composition were not affected by treatment diet. Cows fed treatment diets without RUP supplementation consumed more DM and thus more CP. Supplementation with RUP resulted in greater milk production efficiency per unit of DM consumed. Cows fed treatment diets containing cottonseed meal had higher plasma gossypol concentrations than did cows fed treatment diets containing soybean meal. Plasma gossypol concentrations for all cows in each group were below the recommended upper limit that is considered to be safe. Data suggest that cottonseed meal in the diet can be substituted for soybean meal, resulting in similar milk production and composition.  相似文献

In a series of four experiments, the effects of differences in dietary protein intake on BW, skeletal growth and the weight of the Pectoralis major muscle was studied in Hubbard Standard and Hubbard Hi-Y broiler breeder pullets. In Experiment 1, pullets were fed diets with either 15, 17, or 19% CP from 1 to 21 d. There was a linear increase in BW gain and feed consumption with each increase in CP and Hubbard Standard pullets consumed significantly more feed than Hubbard Hi-Y pullets. From 21 to 34 d, pullets were subjected to feed restriction every day (ED) or every-other-day (EOD). On Day 35, pullets were given ad libitum access to feed and ED-restricted pullets consumed significantly more feed than EOD-restricted pullets through 3.5 h postfeeding. In Experiment (Exp.) 2, pullets were fed the 19% CP diet for approximately 14 d (300 g) or 20 d (600 g) before being switched to the 15% CP diet. In Experiment 3, the 19% CP diet was fed for exactly 7 or 21 d before switching to the 15% CP diet. In all experiments, Hubbard Standard pullets weighed significantly more than Hubbard Hi-Y pullets and had increased overall skeletal growth. When the pullets from both strains were restricted to only 380 g BW at 28 d, (Exp. 3) the longer period of protein intake significantly enhanced breast muscle weight but there were no significant strain differences. When BW at 28 d was increased to 480 g, (Exp. 2), dietary protein and strain differences were observed.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted with laying pullets between 32 and 47 weeks of age. In each trial 1728 White Leghorn and 1728 cross-bred pullets were used. A series of diets of increasing protein content was offered. Protein quality was identical in all diets and tryptophan was demonstrated to be the most limiting amino acid in the protein mixture used. The daily tryptophan requirement of the individual pullet was estimated, by indirect methods, to be 2.25 mg/g egg output plus 10.25 mg/kg body weight. Response curves for flocks of pullets are illustrated. Calculated optimum intakes of tryptophan for various ratios of costs of input to value of output are tabulated. It is estimated that for a flock of mean body weight 1.5 kg, producing 55 g egg mass/hen d and consuming 110 g food/hen d, the optimum dietary tryptophan concentration is 1.7 g/kg when the marginal cost of supplying 1 kg tryptophan is 20 times the marginal value of 1 kg egg output.  相似文献

Fertility of White Leghorn cocks fed a diet containing 12% of dilauryl succinate (LS) for 16 weeks was significantly lower than that of cocks fed the control diet. Little difference in fertility and hatchability of fertile eggs was observed between White Leghorn hens fed the control or LS diets, but the percentage of chicks at hatch, which showed signs of encephalomalacia with lesions on the cerebellum, and the percentage of the hens and offspring having fragile erythrocytes were much higher when LS was fed. Total tocopherol in the plasma of the cocks and hens fed LS and in the eggs laid by the hens fed LS was lower than that in birds fed the control diet, though that of the hens was within the range of plasma tocopherol of normal hens. Offspring of the cocks and hens fed LS died from encephalomalacia earlier than those fed the control diet. These observations with LS feeding were all prevented by oral administration of dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate. The responses of the cocks and hens to LS were compared with those to linoleic acid in the literature. The direct effect of LS, or more likely of monolauryl succinate, independent of peroxides from unsaturated fatty acids was discussed.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted with White Leghorn laying hens to study the effects of different cereal grains on production criteria and liver fat content. The results of Experiment 1, in which pullets 21 weeks of age were used for a period of 22 weeks indicated that Gaines wheat or triticale (Trailblazer) were equal to corn in supporting egg production, egg weight and body weight, with comparable feed consumption. Henry wheat(a hard red winter class) was slightly, yet significantly (P less than 0.05) inferior to corn for the above criteria. No significant differences were observed among four treatments in wet liver weight and liver fat content. Hens fed the corn diet had significantly (P less than 0.05) lower carcass fat followed by the hens fed triticale in comparison with those fed Gaines or Henyry wheat. Mortality was very low and not related to dietary treatments. Neither dietary fat nor energy content was related to fat content of liver and carcass of the hens. Body weight and liver fat content were not closely related to each other. Wet liver weight was the only significantly (P less than 0.05) related factor to liver fat content. In the second experiment, in which hens 33 weeks of age were used for an experimental period of 20 weeks, opaque-2 corn was slightly superior to normal corn and triticale was comparable to normal corn in supporting egg production and egg weight. Supplementation of the diets containing the two corns and triticale with lysine failed to improve egg production and egg weight. Hens fed the diets containing either normal corn or opaque-2 corn as the only grain in the diet had significantly (P less than 0.05) higher liver fat content in comparison with hens fed the diet containing triticale as the only grain. Mortality, however, was much higher among hens fed triticale-containing diets in comparison with groups fed corn-containing diets in spite of the fact that they had significantly lower liver fat content. Regardless of dietary treatments or grains used, the hens that died were diagnosed to have fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome. Dietary fat content was postively and significantly (P less than 0.05) related to liver fat content. Dietary energy or body weight was not closely related to liver content. Liver fat content and mortality were negatively related to each other. The higher for content did not adversely affect laying performance.  相似文献

We conducted five experiments to evaluate conventional and low-glycoalkaloid potato protein (CPP and LGPP, respectively) in diets for early-weaned pigs. In Exp. 1, 150 weanling pigs (initially 4.4 +/- .9 kg and 15.5 +/- 2 d of age) were fed either a control diet containing 3% spray-dried animal plasma (SDAP) or diets with additional SDAP (2.5 or 5% added; 5.5 or 8% total) or CPP (2.6% or 5.1%) substituted on a total lysine basis. From d 0 to 14 after weaning, increasing SDAP increased (linear, P < .05) ADG and ADFI, whereas increasing CCP had no effect on growth performance. In Exp. 2, 180 weanling pigs (initially 5.9 +/- 1.2 kg and 20 +/- 2 d of age) were fed diets containing a LGPP replacing 25, 50, 75, or 100% of the 7% dietary SDAP on a digestible lysine basis. From d 0 to 7 after weaning, increasing LGPP increased and then returned to control levels ADG and ADFI (quadratic, P < .01) and gain:feed ratio (quadratic, P < .05). In Exp. 3, 175 weanling pigs (initially 5.5 +/- 1.1 kg and 20 +/- 3 d of age) were fed either a control diet containing 20% dried whey, 17.5% dried skim milk, and 4% select menhaden fish meal (SMFM) or diets consisting of lactose and either 3.5 and 7.0% SDAP or 4.0 and 8.0% LGPP added at the expense of dried skim milk on a digestible lysine basis. From d 0 to 7 after weaning, ADG and ADFI increased (linear, P < .05) with increasing SDAP. With increasing LGPP, ADG and ADFI increased and then decreased (quadratic, P < .10 and P < .05, respectively). Gain:feed ratio (G/F) was not affected by SDAP and was improved (linear, P < .05) for pigs fed increasing LGPP. In Exp. 4, 270 weanling pigs (initially 6.2 +/- 1.6 kg and 20 +/- 3 d of age) were used to compare three diets that contained either 2.5% spray-dried blood meal (SDBM), 4.8% SMFM, or 3.92% CPP; test feedstuffs were substituted on a total lysine basis and diets were fed from d 7 to 28 after weaning. Pigs fed CPP had decreased (P < .05) ADG and G/F compared with those fed the other protein sources. In Exp. 5, 255 weanling pigs (initially 5.3 +/- 1.2 kg and 17 +/- 2 d of age), were used to compare five diets that contained either 2.5% SDBM, 5.51% SMFM, 4.17% CPP, 4.17% LGPP or 8.34% LGPP; feedstuffs were substituted on a digestible lysine basis and diets were fed from d 7 to 28 after weaning. No differences (P > .10) were observed in growth performance among pigs fed any of the protein sources within the experiment. However, pigs fed the LGPP had numerically greater ADG and better G/F than those fed CPP. In conclusion, these results suggest that LGPP can be an effective replacement for a portion of the SDAP in diets for weanling pigs.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to determine the utilization of ileal digestible methionine by growing pigs. Three methionine-deficient diets (0.09 g ileal digestible methionine/MJ digestible energy (DE)) were formulated using cottonseed meal, meat-and-bone meal and soya-bean meal respectively as the only source of methionine in the diet. An additional three diets were formulated with supplements of methionine to confirm that methionine was limiting in the first three diets. The growth performance and retention of methionine by pigs given the six diets over the 20-45 kg growth phase was then determined. Growth rates (g/d) of pigs given the three diets formulated to 0.09 g ileal digestible methionine/MJ DE were significantly different (P < 0.01): cottonseed meal 411, meat-and-bone meal 442, soya-bean meal 496 (SED 24.6). The response of pigs to the addition of methionine confirmed that methionine was limiting in these diets. Crude protein (N x 6.25) deposited by the pigs (g/d) was significantly higher (P < 0.05) for those given soya-bean meal (61) and meat-and-bone meal (57) relative to cottonseed meal (47; SED 3.3). The proportion of ileal digestible methionine retained by pigs given the three protein concentrates was: cottonseed meal 0.39, meat-and-bone meal 0.45, soya-bean meal 0.47 (SED 0.019). These results indicate that values for the ileal digestibility of methionine in protein concentrates do not reflect the proportion of methionine that can be utilized by the pig. It appears that, with heat-processed meals, a considerable proportion of the methionine is absorbed in a form(s) that is (are) inefficiently utilized.  相似文献

Eighty-four Single-Comb While Leghorn laying hens housed individually in laying cages were fed rations containing less than 0.1 p.p.m. of dieldrin, DDT, heptachlor and mirex individually or in combination for 7 days and in combination for 15 weeks. DDT residues in egg yolk reached 0.043 p.p.m. by 7 days when fed in combination with the other pesticides. None of the residues were above FDA action level at 7 days and all had declined to below trace levels by 8 weeks after termination of pesticide feeding. Residues in eggs from hens fed all four pesticides for 15 weeks increased steadily for the first few weeks and then reached a plateau or increased only slightly until pesticide feeding was terminated. By the end of the 5th week of pesticide feeding all pesticides except DDT had exceeded FDA action levels for pesticides in eggs. DDT residues reached a level of 0.139 p.p.m. by 8 weeks and did not increase thereafter. Traces of the pesticides were still present 24 weeks after termination of pesticide feeding. The pesticides tested did not affect fertility of hatchability of eggs collected during the 14th and 15th weeks of pesticide feeding. Total carcass fat of chicks hatched from these eggs had 0.024 p.p.m. dieldrin, .049 p.p.m. DDT, .001 p.p.m. heptachlor epoxide and, 0.47 mirex at 1 day of age.  相似文献

The objectives of this experiment were to determine whether ruminally protected amino acids (AA) increased milk protein when this content was depressed by the addition of whole cottonseeds in the diets of early lactation Jersey cows. Treatments were 1) a control diet, 2) a diet containing whole cottonseed, and 3) a diet containing whole cottonseed and ruminally protected lysine and methionine. Cows were assigned to treatments at a mean of 7 d postpartum and remained on the experiment for 18 wk. Dry matter intake and yields of milk, milk fat, fat-corrected milk, and energy-corrected milk were not affected by treatment. Milk fat content tended to decrease for cows fed diets containing whole cottonseed. However, the percentages of milk protein, total N, and casein N were depressed by the addition of whole cottonseed and were increased by the addition of ruminally protected AA. Plasma concentrations of methionine, but not lysine, were increased when ruminally protected AA were fed, suggesting that lysine was the most limiting.  相似文献

Despite high N intake by cattle consuming ammoniated forages, improvements in ADG might be expected be feeding proteins that supply ruminally available and(or) undegraded intake protein. Growth studies with 220-kg steers were conducted to evaluate ammoniated hay plus a liquid cane molasses-based supplement containing urea or a combination of urea and .07, .14, or .21 kg of CP daily from cottonseed meal (CSM) or feather meal (FM). Steers grazed dormant pasture and were fed hay plus 1.36 kg of DM daily per steer of the supplement. In each of 3 yr, total DM intake was similar (P > .60) among treatments, averaging 3.0% of BW. Daily gain by steers supplemented with urea and maximum ADG were similar across years, ranging from .21 to .23 kg and .50 to .60 kg, respectively. In all years for CSM supplementation, and in two of the three years for FM supplementation, increasing level of CP supplementation resulted in linear (P < .01) increases in ADG and gain:feed ratio (GF), with no differences (P > .10) between the protein sources. In one year, ADG and GF by steers supplemented with FM were maximized at the .07 kg of CP level, suggesting greater efficiency of protein utilization in FM. Improved performance by cattle fed ammoniated tropical grass hay may be obtained by feeding a protein supplement that provides preformed protein that is either moderately or highly resistant to ruminal degradation. Ruminal degradation characteristics of protein sources may influence efficiency of protein utilization in cattle fed ammoniated tropical grass hay plus molasses-based supplements.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to determine whether taurine supplementation to laying hens would influence laying performance. In Experiment 1, a total of 120 White Leghorn hens were fed diets supplemented with 0, 0.25, or 0.5% taurine for 5 wk. Egg weight was reduced significantly by supplementing 0.25 and 0.5% taurine; however, taurine did not affect other laying performance variables. In Experiment 2, a total of 240 White Leghorn hens were fed diets supplemented with 0 or 0.5% taurine and 0 or 0.1% methionine for 7 wk. Egg weight was decreased due to supplementing taurine in the diets; however, dietary methionine did not affect egg weight, and there was no interaction between dietary taurine and methionine. These results suggest that dietary taurine has the potential to decrease egg weight without affecting egg production, feed conversion, or body weight.  相似文献

1. One hundred and twenty 16-week-old single combed pullets of three strains were fed on a diet containing 135 g protein/kg with or without 50 g clinoptilolite/kg in a trial with 20 hens per treatment. Sterile river sand replaced clinoptilotile in the control diet in order to keep the diets isoenergetic. The hens were individually caged in a naturally ventilated laying house and fed one of the two diets for ten 28-d periods. 2. Significant dietary effects of feeding clinoptilolite were observed with number of eggs laid per hen, shell thickness, efficiency of food utilisation and droppings moisture content. No significant dietary effects between treatments were observed with body weight, age at first egg, egg weight. Haugh units, food intake/hen and rate of amino acid absorption of radioactive lysine and methionine into the bloodstream. Significant differences between strains were observed with regard to all parameters except food intake/hen. There were no significant strain X clinoptilolite interactions.  相似文献

Methionine requirement of channel catfish fed soybean meal-corn-based diets   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A soybean meal-corn-based diet was used to determine dietary methionine (Met) required by 14-g channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) in a 42-d experiment at 25 degrees C. The basal diet with balanced limiting amino acids relative to the catfish whole-body amino acid profile contained 277 g of CP, 3.6 g of Met, 4.0 g of cystine (Cys), and 10 MJ of DE/kg of DM. DL-Methionine was added to the basal diet from 0 to 12.0 g/kg in 2-g intervals at the expense of L-glutamic acid to produce seven isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets. A reference diet contained 331 g of CP, 8 g of Met, 5 g of Cys, and 10 MJ of DE/kg of DM (included 8% fish meal). Seven graded Met levels resulted in quadratic responses (P < .01) of weight gain, specific growth rate, feed or GE intake, feed or energy efficiency, protein or energy retention, protein efficiency ratio, and apparent net protein or energy utilization. Channel catfish required 9.4 g of Met/kg of DM (34.1 g/kg of CP) with a total 11.3 g/kg of calculated digestible sulfur-containing amino acids based on multiple regression dose-response models or 270 mg of Met/kg of fish per day based on a broken-line response of protein gain to Met intake. At the adequate Met level, catfish with the lowest (P < .05) liver lipids showed feed intake and protein or energy utilization efficiency similar (P > .05) to that of catfish fed the reference diet. Catfish fed all-plant-protein diets require more dietary methionine than previously reported. Catfish fed corn-soybean meal diets fortified adequately with methionine result in performance that approaches that of fish fed a fish meal-based diet.  相似文献

Two waste streams from a Leghorn hatchery were preserved and recycled by fermentation with a by-product carbohydrate and extrusion processing into new feed ingredients that were evaluated with broiler chickens. Cockerel chicks (CC) and a 60:40 ratio of CC:shell waste (CC:SW) were fermented in 189-L barrels for 21 d following grinding, then mixing with a liquid culture (0.2%) and carbohydrate source at 15 and 16.66%, respectively. At 2 wk, pH was 4.44 and 5.09 for the CC and CC:SW products compared with higher values of 6.54 and 6.98 for the raw ingredients at the onset. Negligible hydrogen sulfide and no ammonia gas were recorded during the fermentation period. At 21 d, the fermented CC and CC:SW were extruded, dried, and ground to meals containing CP and TMEn levels of 47.4%, 3,187 kcal/kg, and 33.1%, 2,696 kcal/kg, respectively. Broiler chickens were fed a control diet and the CC (5 and 10%) and CC:SW (2.5 and 5%) ingredient diets with corn and soybean meal for 6 wk to evaluate feeding value and carcass yield. Body weight, gain and feed conversion at 42 d for birds fed diets supplemented with CC or CC:SW at all levels were comparable to those of the control. Diets supplemented with hatchery by-product had no negative effect on carcass measurements except ready to cook carcass and wing yield, which were significantly greater for the 10% CC:SW birds than for the control. These data indicate that nutrient dense hatchery by-products can be preserved with fermentation up to 21 d and support broiler live performance and carcass yield as dietary ingredients equal to or better than a corn-soybean meal control.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of fish meal (FM) in beef cattle diets on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and fatty acid (FA) composition of longissimus muscle in 63 yearling steers (335 +/- 23 kg). High-moisture corn and alfalfa silage diets were supplemented with either a corn gluten/blood meal mixture or FM at 10% of the diet. Fish meal contained (as-is basis) 5.87 g/kg eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 9.84 g/kg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Seven strategies were developed to feed either a control diet (no FM) or diets containing 5 or 10% FM with FM fed for either 56, 112, or 168 d before slaughter. Average daily gain and feed efficiency were not affected (P > .10) by FM feeding but DMI decreased. Within FM diets, cattle fed 5% FM consumed more (P < .01) DM and gained more (P < .02) than cattle fed 10% FM. Carcass traits were not affected (P > .05) by feeding strategy except for fatter (P < .05) and lower (P < .06) yielding carcasses in cattle fed 5 vs 10% FM diets. Fish meal feeding increased (P < .01) concentrations of (n-3) FA, including EPA and DHA, and decreased (P < .05) concentrations of arachidonic acid. Increasing the amount of dietary FM further increased (P < .01) concentrations of EPA and DHA and decreased (P < .05) concentrations of (n-6) FA. We estimate that a 114-g steak from cattle fed 10% FM would supply 35 to 90% of the current average daily intake of EPA and DHA in North America. The results indicate that FM may have a role in niche marketing of beef provided that eating quality is not compromised.  相似文献

Two 3 x 3 Latin square trials were conducted to determine the effect of the source of supplemental protein in diets containing wheat middlings on milk production and composition. Cottonseed meal or meat and bone meal was substituted for a portion of the soybean meal and provided 24.5% of the total dietary crude protein. Trial 1 was conducted during fall 1989, and trial 2 was conducted during summer 1993. During trial 1, no differences in production or composition of milk were found for primiparous cows fed the various protein supplements. Multiparous cows tended to have higher dry matter intakes and produced more milk with lower milk fat percentages when fed meat and bone meal than when fed soybean meal or cottonseed meal. No differences were found among supplements for other milk components or for the production of energy-corrected milk. In trial 2, primiparous cows tended to produce more milk, and multiparous cows tended to produce less milk, when fed meat and bone meal than when fed soybean meal. No differences were found for dry matter intake, milk composition, or production of energy-corrected milk. Cottonseed meal was equal to soybean meal in supporting milk production. Meat and bone meal tended to support higher productions of milk than did soybean meal, but production of energy-corrected milk was similar for both.  相似文献

In Exp. 1, six steers (254 kg) were used in a 6 x 4 incomplete Latin square to determine the effects of solvent-extracted soybean meal alone or in combination with rumen-protected methionine and lysine on N balance in steers limit-fed a high-corn diet to gain 1.1 kg/d. The basal diet contained (DM basis) 80% rolled corn, 15% alfalfa, and .9% urea (13.9% CP), and 2 or 4% soybean meal replaced corn to give CP concentrations of 14.8 and 15.6%, respectively. Each diet was fed with and without 5 g/d of Smartamine-ML (.75 and 2.0 g of rumen-protected methionine and lysine, respectively). Nitrogen retention increased linearly (P = .09) with level of soybean meal. Rumen-protected methionine and lysine had no effect on N balance. In Exp. 2, seven steers (233 kg) were used in a 7 x 4 incomplete Latin square experiment to investigate optimal levels and sources of CP for steers limit-fed to gain 1 kg/d. Treatments included a negative-control diet (urea; 11.7% CP) and six diets containing either 13.5, 15.4, or 17.2% CP with either solvent-extracted or expeller-processed soybean meal. Diets provided 75, 87.5, 100, or 112.5% of estimated CP requirement for a gain of 1 kg/d. The basal diet contained 83% rolled corn, 15% alfalfa, and .2% urea. Nitrogen retention increased linearly (P = .006) with soybean meal addition, and no differences were observed between CP sources. The CP system underpredicted the protein requirements of limit-fed steers under our conditions.  相似文献

The rate of liver and muscle protein synthesis has been measured in 27 rats after feeding L-[U-14C]tyrosine in L-amino acid diets prepared as agar gels. Constant specific activity of the free tyrosine pool, as indicated by constant excretion of 14CO2, was reached within 2 h of feeding and was maintained for the remaining 6 h of the 8-h experiment. Muscle protein synthesis was decreased (P less than 0.05) in rats fed a 0.3% methionine diet compared with rats fed this diet supplemented with 0.51% cystine (fractional rate of synthesis, ks: 0.098 vs. 0.121). No effect (P greater than 0.05) of these diets on liver protein synthesis was observed (ks: 0.603 vs. 0.532). Protein synthetic rate was also determined by the constant-intravenous infusion technique in 17 rats fed unlabeled diets. The two techniques gave similar estimates. Restraint of the rats or the infusion of saline had no measurable effect on the rate of protein synthesis in rats fed labeled diets. This feeding technique is essentially equivalent to the constant-infusion technique and offers an easier, more physiological approach to achieving a steady state.  相似文献
