The key to achieving successful cross‐media colour reproduction is a reliable colour appearance model, which is capable of predicting the colour appearance across a variety of imaging devices under different viewing conditions. The two most commonly used media, CRT displays (soft copy) and printed images (hard copy), were included in this study using four complex images. The original printed images were captured using a digital camera and processed using eight colour appearance models (CIELAB, RLAB, LLAB, ATD, Hunt96, Nayatani97, CIECAM97s, and CAM97s2) and two chromatic adaptation transforms (von Kries and CMCCAT97). Psychophysical experiments were carried out to assess colour model performance in terms of colour fidelity by comparing soft‐copy and hard‐copy images. By employing the memory‐matching method, observers categorized the reproductions displayed on a CRT and compared them to the original printed images viewed in a viewing cabinet. The experiment was divided into three phases according to the different colour temperatures between the CRT and light source, i.e., print (D50, A, and A) and CRT (D93, D93, and D50), respectively). It was found that the CIECAM97s‐type models performed better than the other models. A psychophysical experiment was carried out to investigate factors affecting colour preference for Taiwanese floral pattern fabrics, as a case study of object colour preference. A total of 175 test images of Taiwanese fabrics were used as the stimuli presented on a calibrated computer display. The images were generated on the basis of 5 existing Taiwanese fabrics, each manipulated into 35 images by changing the fabric colour. The 35 colours were selected to cover the most frequently used colours for existing Taiwanese fabrics. The 175 test images were assessed by 76 Taiwanese observers in terms of 9 semantic scales, including Taiwanese style/non‐Taiwanese style, Japanese style/non‐Japanese style, splendid/plain, traditional/modern, active/passive, warm/cool, heavy/light, like/dislike and harmonious/disharmonious. The experimental results reveal two underlying factors: “Splendidness” and “Harmony.” The like/dislike response was found to highly correlate with harmonious/disharmonious, but have poor correlation with Taiwanese style/non‐Taiwanese style. The study also reveals several factors affecting colour preference for Taiwanese fabrics, including the interaction effect of colour and pattern, observer's general liking for the object, and the effect of user experience. Some thermo‐viscosity parameters like Viscosity‐molecular weight constant (K), the short‐range parameter, (A) and long‐range parameter (B) have been evaluated for the polymer “Dextran” of three different molecular weights (M?w = 19,500, 75,000, and 250,000) in three different solvents like 6 (M) aqueous urea, 2 (M) aqueous glycine, and 50% aqueous glucose at temperatures ranging from 25 to 50°C. The study reveals that the viscosity‐molecular weight constant (K) decreases with increase in temperature for polar solvents like aqueous urea and aqueous glycine. The value of “K” increases with the rise in temperature within the range of 25 to 35°C in case of a nonpolar solvent aqueous glucose and then “K” decreases with the increase in temperature within the range of 40 to 50°C for the nonpolar solvent aqueous glucose. The short‐range parameter (A) shows the same trend as shown by “K” and the long‐range parameter “B” exhibits no definite trend with the variation of temperature. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The article presents the theoretical framework and the operational concepts of a research, finalized to explore and verify the prerequisites of an approach to urban color that, while recognizing to color the flexible as well as transient capacity to respond to the successive and multiple demands that characterize the urban space, sees a possible way of coexisting between the needs of continuity and renewal. Searching to understand the modalities and possibilities through which colour can intervene in the processes of transformation of the city to support both the needs of resignification and reappropriation and those of conservation and enhancement of the vital identity of each single place, the research looked on one side to the experiences gained within the colour plans and Lenclos' geography of colour and on the other side to the different and diversified experiences developed within the idea and practice of placemaking, aimed at the recognition and enhancement of the collective and plural creative dimension that colour seems effectively able to interpret. The term “color loci placemaking” was introduced to summarize this mode/possibility of understanding and approaching urban color, characterized especially by the attention for the specificity of each single place and the human factor underpinning place‐experience.  相似文献

This study investigates harmony in two‐colour combinations in order to develop a quantitative model. A total of 1431 colour pairs were used as stimuli in a psychophysical experiment for the visual assessment of harmony. These colour pairs were generated using 54 colours selected systematically from CIELAB colour space. During the experiment, observers were presented with colour pairs displayed individually against a medium gray background on a cathode ray tube monitor in a darkened room. Colour harmony was assessed for each colour pair using a 10‐category scale ranging from “extremely harmonious” to “extremely disharmonious.” The experimental results showed a general pattern of two‐colour harmony, from which a quantitative model was developed and principles for creating harmony were derived. This model was tested using an independent psychophysical data set and the results showed satisfactory performance for model prediction. The study also discusses critical issues including the definition of colour harmony, the relationship between harmony and pleasantness, and the relationship between harmony and order in colour. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Systems for arranging and describing color include “color spaces” and “color order systems.” In a color space, tristimulus values R, G, and B are computable for every light (every point in the space). In familiar color spaces, such computation makes use of three functions of wavelength (the color-matching functions that define one of the CIE Standard Observers), one function corresponding to each of R, G, and B. In the presence of strong metamerism (marked spectral difference between the spectral power distributions of a pair of visually matching lights), the color-matching functions may report that one light of the pair has an entirely different color from that of the other member of the visually matching pair of lights. The CIE Standard Observer embodying those color-matching functions “sees” the two visually matching lights as entirely different in color, that is, it reports entirely different sets of R, G, and B for the two visually matching lights, and, thus, an entirely different chromaticity. In an example given here, each of the CIE Standard Observers assigns a strong green color to lights that are seen by normal human observers as a visual match to a hueless reference white. On the other hand, color order systems comprising sets of real objects in a specified illuminant, and which are assembled (visually arranged) by normal observers, as are the Munsell and OSA sets, do not suffer from the type of trouble discussed here. Color spaces depending on mathematical functions of R, G, and B are at risk: both Standard Observers are shown to plot visually identical lights at widely varying points in familiar color spaces (e.g., delta E*ab = 40–50). © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Abstract: In this article we present data comparing red–green dichromats' use of “Basic Color Terms” (BCTs) with that of standard trichromats. In a complementary article (Color Res Appl 2013) we use these data to evaluate two models of the mechanisms underlying dichromats' use of BCTs. There were three groups of observers—trichromats, protanopes, and deuteranopes—that each performed two tasks: “mapping” (which of these are exemplars of X?) and “best exemplar” (which is the best instance of X?), where X took the value of each Spanish BCT. The mapping task results were subjected to multidimensional scaling that revealed that dichromats differ from trichromats in the number and nature of the dimensions needed for describing BCTs' use. Trichromats required three dimensions closely related to the opponent color mechanisms (red–green, yellow–blue) and the light‐dark channel. In contrast, tridimensional solution for dichromats was difficult to interpret, whereas the fit for the bidimensional solution was very good and revealed a chromatic dimension, which did not match any of the trichromatic dimensions, and an achromatic one. There were also some error‐asymmetries (sometimes “A” was the predominant error when choosing exemplars of “B”, but not vice versa) and the groups differed in the frequency of use of some BCTs (e.g., protanopes chose more stimuli as orange than trichromats and deuteranopes). As expected, the best exemplar task produced more correct responses than the mapping task, and for both tasks, “primary” BCTs (black, white, red, green, yellow, and blue) produced better results than “derived” ones (brown, purple, orange, pink, and grey). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A synthesis of the author's recent work on color‐order systems and color‐difference evaluation is provided in context of current knowledge and practices. The development of a colorimetric model is demonstrated using Munsell “Celtic crosses” as a model of perceptual space. Issues surrounding color‐matching functions, unique hues, the Helmholtz–Kohlrausch effect, and lightness and chroma crispening are addressed, as is the difficulty of reconciling a difference‐based hue, chroma, lightness model with an Euclidean model. A new lightness scale and treatment of lightness crispening is proposed. The results indicate that, despite problems, relatively simple modified opponent‐color models provide good accuracy in predicting color‐order system and supra‐threshold small color‐difference data. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Composition of “Oxidized Fatty Acids”, Their Content as a Basis for the Evaluation of Heated Fats and Their Relationship to Saponification Colour Number “Oxidized fatty acids”? obtained from various thermally oxidized fats according to DGF method C-III 3 (68) have been investigated. Empirical formula determined from molecular weight, and C-, H- and O-content, and the possible structural formulas are discussed. During oxidation the content of ?oxidized fatty acids”? increased parallel to the increased in saponification colour number E100%, 1 cm/470 nm. Contrary to other investigations, it has been proved that the relationship between saponification colour number and “oxidized fatty acids? is not affected by the material fried. Thus it is possible to use saponification colour number in combination with acid value as basis for the evaluation of heated fats.  相似文献

M. Brill, in his comments “Maximum number of discriminable colors in a region of uniform color space,” offers a different calculation method from that used by R. G. Kuehni in “How many object colors can we distinguish?,” one based on close‐packing of just noticeable difference spheres. The number per just noticeable difference (JND) sphere is lower than that derived in Kuehni's study. Based on the resulting number of close‐packed JND spheres in the CIECAM02/D65 object color solid and Brill's described multiplier of 5.923 potential stimuli within a JND sphere, the resulting number of distinguishable color stimuli is 9.114 million. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Women might experience modulation in their perception and cognition of colours and odours during the menstrual cycle, but how women's impressions of and correspondence between colours and odours differ according to the cycle changes remains unknown. Here, we experimentally examined women's performance of several tasks, including evaluation of impressions of colours and odours, matching/nonmatching of colours with odours, and identification of odours, comparing two phases: the beginning of menstruation and ovulation. The results showed that participants had similar impressions of colours and odours and made similar colour choices for odours in both the menstrual and ovulation phases, while “pleasant-unpleasant” impressions of colour and odour might vary according to the menstrual cycle. We found no significant differences in odour identification between the phases. The findings imply that hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle might affect “pleasant-unpleasant” impressions of colour and odour but not other features regarding impressions or crossmodal correspondence. In future studies, examination with a large number of participants is necessary.  相似文献

Color in urban design has become an important issue, each city may present different colors which help to define and describe its architectural features. In the study, color in urban design with architectural setting is studied, façade colors are analyzed with a specific emphasis on the following research questions; “Can color schemes be designed in respect to color‐emotion associations? and “Are color‐emotion associations affective while designing architectural setting‐urban environment?.” Non‐color experts, 170 people, from different European and non‐European countries were asked to match the most appropriate adjectives with the given street views in accordance to their color schemes. In the first step, the effect of color is identified in relation to architectural environment‐urban setting, second the relative effect of color is studied as a component of the material. A categorical specification on color cognition and linguistic level of representation is attempted. The results can be a starting point to highlight the importance of preparing color schemes in regard to color‐emotion associations. Abstract color schemes may also provide us an idea about image setting, especially at design process stage. In the study, keywords are linked as environment‐response pairs; such as quiet, calming, lively, exclusive, reserved, and natural. Human psychophysical structure such as “warm‐cool,” “heavy‐light” in regard to visualizing certain colors are evaluated and described in terms of building materials.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of physical appearance attributes (in terms of color and shape) on our affective feelings of 2D and 3D objects. Twelve colors were studied, each consisting of 12 two‐dimensional and 12 three‐dimensional shapes. This resulted in 144 2D and 144 3D color‐shape combinations. Each color‐shape combination was assessed using 20 emotion scales in a viewing cabinet by a panel of observers with normal color vision. The results show that there are five underlying factors of these 20 scales, i.e., “activity,” “weight,” “heat,” “softness,” and “complexity”. Thai colour names used for mural paintings and Khon masks are not well known, uncommonly used, and some are forgotten. They are normally known today only among few artists who inherited the knowledge to paint them from their elders. However, the artists cannot quantitatively describe the characteristics of these colours, and this is a major impediment in colour identification and preservation studies that are necessary for future restoration works of temples and artifacts. The purpose of this article is to describe our research for identifying and quantitatively describing traditional Thai colours, as part of our effort to create a “Thai Colour Name Dictionary.” In this article, we show information about colour names which have never been mentioned in any international journal until now, and we describe the method we used to identify them with physical colours. Polypropylene/Vectra B blends were obtained at different LCP contents and barrel temperatures by an extrusion-injection process. The wide barrel injection temperature range chosen, from 200 to 300°C, gave rise to blends in which the pregenerated extruded morphology was preserved, partially preserved, or lost. The blends processed at 260 and 300°C showed the usual morphology and properties of “in-situ” composites. The blends injected at 240°C showed the worst properties because of their partially melted and agglomerated morphology. A barrel temperature of 200°C (80°C below the melt temperature of Vectra B) was needed to maintain the pregenerated fibers. These pregenerated composites, without post-extrusion drawing, showed smaller modulus of elasticity and tensile strength than those of the “in-situ” composites, but an increased notched impact strength as a consequence of their less perfectly oriented but more homogeneous morphology.  相似文献

A hexa‐substituted ethane type compound, diethyl‐2,3‐dicyano‐2,3‐di(p‐tolyl)succinate (DCDTS), was successfully synthesized and used for initiation of methyl methacrylate (MMA) polymerization. The reaction demonstrated the characteristics of a “living” polymerization; i.e., both the yield and the molecular weight of the resulting polymers increased linearly with increasing reaction time, the molecular‐weight distribution of PMMA obtained was ~1.60 and almost unaffected by the conversion, and the resultant polymer can be chain extended by adding fresh MMA. End group analysis of the resultant PMMA confirmed that DCDTS behaves as a thermal iniferter for MMA polymerization. 本文对明胶生物大分子中铜离子的配位状况进行了初步研究。首先用原子吸收光谱法测定五种国产明胶中铜含量,然后用电子顺磁共振波谱法(EPR)研究明胶中铜的配位状况。结果表明,A、B、E三种胶中含铜量少于5ppm,在EPR谱上反映不出Cu(Ⅱ)的存在;C、D两种胶中含铜大于20ppm,在EPR谱上表现出Cu(Ⅱ)的信号,且信号位置相似,说明二者Cu(Ⅱ)的配位环境存在某些类似;以C胶作为主要研究对象,发现C胶中同时存在顺磁性的Cu(Ⅱ)离于和抗磁性的Cu(Ⅱ)离子的配位结构可能偏离平面四方构型,即不存在D_(4h)对称轴;Cu(Ⅱ)离子属于典型的二型铜,有两个或两个以上组氨酸咪唑基以N原子与Cu(Ⅱ)配位。  相似文献

Studies have been carried out to choice methods which could assess in best way the complex changes in fat during deep frying of French fries and potato crisps. A special emphasis was laid on the estimation of usefulness of simple and quick “methods” which could practically indicate the utilization time of fats (soybean oil, low erucic acid rapeseed oil, ?Sofryt”? -hardened soybean oil), used in deep-fat frying of potato products. Besides the oxidized fatty acid content, proposed by DGF (German Society for Fat Science) as a basic test for the quality assessment of used frying fats, following control tests during the deep-fat frying of potato products have been appointed: colour tests with bromthymol blue and 2,6-dichlorphenol-indophenol, sensoric evaluation, dielectric constant and colour by iodine scale. For these tests suitable limits, qualifying the utility of oils and fats for further frying of French fries and potato crisps, have been estimated.  相似文献

Quantum mechanical calculations based on density functional theory and the generalised gradient approximation show that the equilibrium lattice parameter of a carbon polymorph with space group symmetry would be 3.08 Å, and hence very different from that of diamond. No local minimum in the dependence of the total energy on the lattice parameter has been found. Such a polymorph would be approximately 5 eV atom−1 less stable than diamond, suggesting that its synthesis is very unlikely. This finding is consistent with older density functional calculations and contradicts recent results of LCAO calculations, which have been used to support the interpretation of experimental data as showing the existence of a metallic carbon polymorph with space group symmetry .  相似文献

Russian color naming was explored in a web‐based experiment. The purpose was 3‐fold: to examine (1) CIELAB coordinates of centroids for 12 Russian basic color terms (BCTs), including 2 Russian terms for “blue”, sinij “dark blue”, and goluboj “light blue”, and compare these with coordinates for the 11 English BCTs obtained in earlier studies; (2) frequent nonBCTs; and (3) gender differences in color naming. Native Russian speakers participated in the experiment using an unconstrained color‐naming method. Each participant named 20 colors, selected from 600 colors densely sampling the Munsell Color Solid. Color names and response times of typing onset were registered. Several deviations between centroids of the Russian and English BCTs were found. The 2 “Russian blues”, as expected, divided the BLUE area along the lightness dimension; their centroids deviated from a centroid of English blue. Further minor departures were found between centroids of Russian and English counterparts of “brown” and “red”. The Russian color inventory confirmed the linguistic refinement of the PURPLE area, with high frequencies of nonBCTs. In addition, Russian speakers revealed elaborated naming strategies and use of a rich inventory of nonBCTs. Elicitation frequencies of the 12 BCTs were comparable for both genders; however, linguistic segmentation of color space, employing a synthetic observer, revealed gender differences in naming colors, with more refined naming of the “warm” colors from females. We conclude that, along with universal perceptual factors, that govern categorical partition of color space, Russian speakers’ color naming reflects language‐specific factors, supporting the weak relativity hypothesis.  相似文献
