A new diamine 5,5′‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]‐hexahydro‐4,7‐methanoindan ( 3 ) was prepared through the nucleophilic displacement of 5,5′‐bis(4‐hydroxylphenyl)‐hexahydro‐4,7‐methanoindan ( 1 ) with p‐halonitrobenzene in the presence of K2CO3 in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C in ethanol. A series of new polyamides were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of diamine 3 with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids. The polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with inherent viscosities of 0.76–1.02 dl g−1. All the polymers were soluble in aprotic dipolar solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), and could be solution cast into transparent, flexible and tough films. The glass transition temperatures of the polyamides were in the range 245–282 °C; their 10% weight loss temperatures were above 468 °C in nitrogen and above 465 °C in air. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Wholly aromatic polyamides (aramids) are high‐performance polymeric materials with outstanding heat resistance and excellent chemical stabilities due to chain stiffness and intermolecular hydrogen bonding of amide groups. Synthesis of structurally well‐designed monomers is an effective strategy to prepare modified forms of these aramids to overcome lack of organo‐solubility and processability limitations. RESULTS: A novel class of wholly aromatic polyamides was prepared from a new diamine, namely 2,2′‐bis(p‐phenoxyphenyl)‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether (PPAPE), and two simple aromatic dicarboxylic acids. Two reference polyamides were also prepared by reacting 4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether with the same comonomers under similar conditions. M?w and M?n of the resultant polymers were 8.0 × 104 and 5.5 × 104 g mol?1, respectively. Polymers resulting from PPAPE exhibited a nearly amorphous nature. These polyamides exhibited excellent organo‐solubility in a variety of polar solvents and possessed glass transition temperatures up to 200 °C. The 10% weight loss temperatures of these polymers were found to be up to 500 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere. The polymers obtained from PPAPE could be cast into transparent and flexible films from N,N‐dimethylacetamide solution. CONCLUSION: The results obtained show that the new PPAPE diamine can be considered as a good monomer to enhance the processability of its resultant aromatic polyamides while maintaining their high thermal stability. The observed characteristics of the polyamides obtained make them promising high‐performance polymeric materials. Copyright © 2009 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A novel dianhydride, trans‐1,2‐bis(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)cyclohexane dianhydride (1,2‐CHDPA), was prepared through aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile with trans‐cyclohexane‐1,2‐diol followed by hydrolysis and dehydration. A series of polyimides (PIs) were synthesized from one‐step polycondensation of 1,2‐CHDPA with several aromatic diamines, such as 2,2′‐bis(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl‐4,4′‐diamine (TFDB), bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenyl)ether (TFODA), 4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether (ODA), 1,4‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)benzene (TPEQ), 4,4′‐(1,3‐phenylenedioxy)dianiline (TPER), 2,2′‐bis[4‐(3‐aminodiphenoxy)phenyl]sulfone (m‐BAPS), and 2,2′‐bis[4‐(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenyl]sulfone (6F‐BAPS). The glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the polymers were higher than 198°C, and the 5% weight loss temperatures (Td5%s) were in the range of 424–445°C in nitrogen and 415–430°C in air, respectively. All the PIs were endowed with high solubility in common organic solvents and could be cast into tough and flexible films, which exhibited good mechanical properties with tensile strengths of 76–105 MPa, elongations at break of 4.7–7.6%, and tensile moduli of 1.9–2.6 GPa. In particular, the PI films showed excellent optical transparency in the visible region with the cut‐off wavelengths of 369–375 nm owing to the introduction of trans‐1,2‐cyclohexane moiety into the main chain. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new diamine, 2,2′‐bis(3,4,5‐trifluorophenyl)‐4,4′‐diaminodiphenyl ether (FPAPE) was synthesized through the Suzuki coupling reaction of 2,2′‐diiodo‐4,4′‐dinitrodiphenyl ether with 3,4,5‐trifluorophenylboronic acid to produce 2,2′‐bis(3,4,5‐trifluorophenyl)‐4,4′‐dinitrodiphenyl ether (FPNPE), followed by palladium‐catalyzed hydrazine reduction of FPNPE. FPAPE was then utilized to prepare a novel class of highly fluorinated all‐aromatic poly(ether‐imide)s. The chemical structure of the resulting polymers is well confirmed by infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic methods. Limiting viscosity numbers of the polymer solutions at 25 °C were measured through the extrapolation of the concentrations used to zero. Mn and Mw of these polymers were about 10 000 and 25 000 g mol?1, respectively. The polymers showed a good film‐forming ability, and some characteristics of their thin films including color and flexibility were investigated qualitatively. An excellent solubility in polar organic solvents was observed. X‐ray diffraction measurements showed that the fluoro‐containing polymers have a nearly amorphous nature. The resulting polymers had Tg values higher than 340 °C and were thermally stable, with 10% weight loss temperatures being recorded above 550 °C. Based on the results obtained, FPAPE can be considered as a promising design to prepare the related high performance polymeric materials. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A series of novel aromatic polyimides were synthesized from N,N‐di(4‐aminophenyl)‐N′,N′‐diphenyl‐4,4′‐oxydianiline and aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydrides through a conventional two‐step procedure. Most of the polyimides exhibited reasonable solubility in organic solvents and could afford robust films via solution casting. The polyimides exhibited high thermal stability, with glass transition temperatures in the range 227–273 °C and 10% weight‐loss temperatures in excess of 550 °C. All the polyimide films showed ambipolar redox and multi‐electrochromic behaviors. They exhibited two reversible oxidation redox couples at 0.94–0.98 and 1.09–1.12 V versus Ag/AgCl in acetonitrile solution. A coupling reaction between the radical cations of the pendent triphenylamine units occurred during the oxidative process forming a tetraphenylbenzidine structure which resulted in an additional redox state and color change. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Two series of cardo polyimides were prepared from 1,4‐bis(4‐fluorophthalimide)cyclohexane with different trans/cis ratios and phenolphthalein/o‐cresolphthalein via aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction. The inherent viscosities of the synthesized polymers were found to be 0.55–0.66 dL g?1 in N,N′‐dimethylacetamide. The cardo polyimides showed excellent solubility in organic solvents, high glass transition temperatures (Tg) of 275–312 °C and moderate thermal stability with 5% weight loss temperatures (Td5%) of 415–441 °C in nitrogen and 370–436 °C in air. The polyimide films exhibited high optical transparency with cut‐off wavelengths of 350–355 nm and moderate mechanical properties. The different properties of the polymers caused by trans and cis configurations of 1,4‐diaminocyclohexane were also investigated. It was found that with an increasing content of trans configuration of 1,4‐diaminocyclohexane in the polyimide backbone, Tg of the polyimides increased as well as Td5%, while the solubility gradually decreased. The polyimide films had good optical transparency regardless of trans/cis configuration. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A novel copolymer of polybenzimidazoles was prepared by copolymerization of 3,3′‐diaminobenzidine tetrahydrochloride, 3,4‐diaminobenzoic acid and isophthalic acid in polyphosphoric acid at 200 °C. The polymerization could be performed within 90–110 min with the assistance of microwave irradiation. The solubility of the copolymer obtained in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) was improved compared with those of poly[2,2′‐(m‐phenylene)‐5,5′‐bibenzimidazole] and poly(2,5‐benzimidazole). Thus copolymer membranes could be readily prepared by dissolving the copolymer powders in DMAc with refluxing under ambient pressure. The decomposition temperature of the copolymer was about 520 °C in air according to thermogravimetric analysis data. The proton conductivity and mechanical strength of the phosphoric acid‐doped copolymer membranes were investigated at elevated temperatures. A conductivity of 0.09 S cm?1 at 180 °C and a tensile stress at break of 5.9 MPa at 120 °C were achieved for the acid‐doped copolymer membranes by doping acids in a 75 wt% H3PO4 solution. 3,6‐bi(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐N‐methylcarbazole and 3,6‐bi(4‐fluorobenzoyl)‐N‐ethylcarbazole were synthesized and used to prepare poly(arylene ether ketone)s (PAEKs) with high glass transition temperatures (Tg) and good solubility. High molecular weight amorphous PAEKs were prepared from these two difluoroketones with hydroquinone, phenolphthalein, 9,9‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)fluorene and 4‐(4‐hydroxylphenyl)‐2,3‐phthalazin‐1‐one, respectively. All these polymers presented high thermal stability with glass transition temperatures being in the range 239–303 °C and a 5% thermal weight loss temperature above 460 °C. Compared with the Tg of phenolphthalein‐based PAEK (PEK‐C), fluorene‐based PAEK (BFEK) and phthalazinone‐based PAEK (DPEK) not containing a carbazole unit, these polymers presented a 30–50 °C increase in Tg. Meanwhile, PAEKs prepared from N‐ethylcarbazole difluoroketone showed good solubility in ordinary organic solvents, and all polymers exhibited excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid (36.5 wt%) and sodium hydroxide (50 wt%) solutions. In particular, phthalazinone‐based PAEK bearing N‐ethylcarbazole afforded simultaneously a Tg of 301 °C with good solubility. Tensile tests of films showed that these polymers have desirable mechanical properties. The carbazole‐based difluoroketones play an important role in preparing soluble PAEKs with high Tg by coordinating the relationship between chain rigidity resulting from the carbazole unit and chain distance from the side alkyl. © 2014 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A series of new aromatic poly(amide‐imide)s were synthesized by the triphenyl phosphite‐activated polycondensation of the diimide‐diacid, 1,4‐bis(trimellitimido)‐2,5‐dichlorobenzene (I), with various aromatic diamines in a medium consisting of N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), pyridine, and calcium chloride. The poly(amide‐imide)s had inherent viscosities of 0.88–1.27 dL g−1. The diimide‐diacid monomer (I) was prepared from 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐phenylenediamine with trimellitic anhydride. All the resulting polymers were amorphous and were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents, including NMP and N,N‐dimethylacetamide. Transparent, flexible, and tough films of these polymers could be cast from N,N‐dimethylacetamide or NMP solutions. Cast films had tensile strengths ranging from 92 to 127 MPa, elongations at break from 4 to 24%, and initial moduli from 2.59 to 3.65 GPa. The glass transition temperatures of these polymers were in the range of 256°–317°C, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were above 430°C in nitrogen. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel diamine, 1,4‐bis [3‐oxy‐(N‐aminophthalimide)] benzene (BOAPIB), was synthesized from 1,4‐bis [3‐oxy‐(N‐phenylphthalimide)] benzene and hydrazine. Its structure was determined via IR, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis. A series of five‐member ring, hydrazine‐based polyimides were prepared from this diamine and various aromatic dianhydrides via one‐step polycondensation in p‐chlorophenol. The inherent viscosities of these polyimides were in the range of 0.17–0.61 dL/g. These polymers were soluble in polar aprotic solvents and phenols at room temperature. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the 5% weight‐loss temperatures of the polyimides were near 450°C in air and 500°C in nitrogen. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) indicated that the glass‐transition temperatures (Tgs) of these polymers were in the range of 265–360°C. The wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction showed that all the polyimides were amorphous. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

A new diacid containing optically active functional groups, N,N′‐(4,4′‐diphthaloyl)‐bis‐L ‐leucine diacid ( 3 ), was synthesized and used in a preparation of a series of poly(amide‐imide)s (PAIs) by direct polycondensation with various aromatic diamines in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NMP). All polymers derived from diacid ( 3 ) were highly organosoluble in the solvents like N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, tetrahydrofuran, γ‐butyrolactone, cyclohexanone, and chloroform at room temperature or upon heating. Inherent viscosities of the PAIs were found to range between 0.34 and 0.61·dL g?1. All the PAIs afforded flexible and tough films. The glass‐transition temperatures of these PAIs were recorded between 212 and 237°C by differential scanning calorimetry, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were ranging from 372 to 393°C and 336–372°C under nitrogen and air, respectively. The polyimide films had a tensile strength in the range of 63–88 MPa and a tensile modulus in the range of 1.2–1.7 GPa. Optically active PAIs exhibited specific rotations in the range of ?10.58° to ?38.70°. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

A series of new, organosoluble, and light‐colored poly(amide imide imide)s were synthesized from tetraimide dicarboxylic acid ( I ) and various aromatic diamines by direct polycondensation with triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. I was prepared by the azeotropic condensation of 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride, m‐aminobenzoic acid, and 4,4′‐oxydianiline at a 2/2/1 molar ratio in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP)/toluene. The thin films cast from N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) had cutoff wavelengths shorter than 400 nm (365–394 nm) and color coordinate b* values between 13.10 and 36.07; these polymers were lighter in color than the analogous poly(amide imide)s and isomeric polymers. All of the polymers were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents, including NMP, DMAc, N,N‐dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and even less polar dioxane and tetrahydrofuran. The cast films exhibited tensile strengths of 90–104 MPa, elongations at break of 7–22%, and initial moduli of 1.9–2.4 GPa. The glass‐transition temperatures of the polymers were recorded at 274–319°C. They had 10% weight losses at temperatures beyond 520°C and left more than a 50% residue even at 800°C in nitrogen. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 88: 669–679, 2003  相似文献

A series of new alternating aromatic poly(ester‐imide)s were prepared by the polycondensation of the preformed imide ring‐containing diacids, 2,2′‐bis(4‐trimellitimidophenoxy)biphenyl (2a) and 2,2′‐bis(4‐trimellitimidophenoxy)‐1,1′‐binaphthyl (2b) with various aromatic dihydroxy compounds in the presence of pyridine and lithium chloride. A model compound (3) was also prepared by the reaction of 2b with phenol, its synthesis permitting an optimization of polymerization conditions. Poly(ester‐imides) were fully characterized by FTIR, UV‐vis and NMR spectroscopy. Both biphenylene‐ and binaphthylene‐based poly(ester‐imide)s exhibited excellent solubility in common organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, m‐cresol, pyridine and dichloromethane. However, binaphthylene‐based poly(ester‐imide)s were more soluble than those of biphenylene‐based polymers in highly polar organic solvents, including N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide. From differential scanning calorimetry thermograms, the polymers showed glass‐transition temperatures between 261 and 315 °C. Thermal behaviour of the polymers obtained was characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, and the 10 % weight loss temperatures of the poly(ester‐imide)s was in the range 449–491 °C in nitrogen. Furthermore, crystallinity of the polymers was estimated by means of wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction. The resultant poly(ester‐imide)s exhibited nearly an amorphous nature, except poly(ester‐imide)s derived from hydroquinone and 4,4′‐dihydroxybiphenyl. In general, polymers containing binaphthyl units showed higher thermal stability but lower crystallinity than polymers containing biphenyl units. A new monomer of tetraimide‐dicarboxylic acid (IV) was synthesized by starting from ring‐opening addition of 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride, trimellitic anhydride, and 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzene at a 1:2:2 molar ratio in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP). From this new monomer, a series of novel organosoluble poly(amide‐imide‐imide)s with inherent viscosities of 0.7–0.96 dL/g were prepared by triphenyl phosphite activated polycondensation from the tetraimide‐diacid with various aromatic diamines. All synthesized polymers were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents such as NMP and N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and most of them were soluble even in less polar m‐cresol and pyridine. These polymers afforded tough, transparent, and flexible films with tensile strengths ranging from 99 to 125 MPa, elongations at break from 12 to 19%, and initial moduli from 1.6 to 2.4 GPa. The thermal properties and stability were also good with glass‐transition temperatures of 236–276°C and thermogravimetric analysis 10 wt % loss temperatures of 504–559°C in nitrogen and 499–544°C in air. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new kind of aromatic unsymmetrical diamine monomer containing thiazole ring, 2‐amino‐5‐(4‐aminophenyl)‐thiazole (AAPT), was synthesized. A series of novel polyimides were prepared by polycondensation of AAPT with various aromatic dianhydrides by one‐step polyimidation process. The synthesized polyimides had inherent viscosity values of 0.36–0.69 dL/g and were easily dissolved in highly dipolar solvents. Meanwhile, strong and flexible polyimide films were obtained, which have good thermal and thermo‐oxidative stability with the glass transition temperatures (Tg) of 276.7–346.1°C, the temperature at 5% weight loss of 451–492°C in nitrogen and 422–440°C in air, as well as have outstanding mechanical properties with the tensile strengths of 94–122 MPa, elongations at breakage of 5–18%. These films also had dielectric constants of 3.12–3.38 at 10 MHz. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

A series of polyimides were prepared from 2,3,2′,3′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (3,3′‐ODPA) with various aromatic diamines via three different synthetic procedures. The one‐step and two‐step methods with the thermal imidization of poly(amic acids) (PAAs) yielded polyimides with a relatively low inherent viscosity; these produced brittle films. The polyimides prepared by the two‐step method via the chemical imidization of PAA precursors exhibited a higher inherent viscosity and afforded tough and creaseable films. All the 3,3′‐ODPA based polyimides had a significantly higher solubility than the corresponding polyimides from 3,4,3′,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride. The films cast from 3,3′‐ODPA polyimides also showed high optical transparencies and less color, with an ultraviolet–visible absorption edge of 370–397 nm and low yellowness index values of 11.3–29.8. These polyimides exhibited glass‐transition temperatures in the range 211–289°C and showed no significant decomposition below 500°C under nitrogen or air atmospheres. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new aromatic diamines, 2,2′‐dibromo‐4,4′‐oxydianiline (DB‐ODA 4 ) and 2,2′,6,6′‐tetrabromo‐4,4′‐oxydianiline (TB‐ODA 5 ), have been synthesized by oxidation, bromination, and reduction of 4,4′‐oxydianiline (4,4′‐ODA). Novel polyimides 6a–f and 7a–f were prepared by reacting DB‐ODA ( 4 ) and TB‐ODA ( 5 ) with several dianhydrides by one‐step method, respectively. The inherent viscosities of these polyimides ranged from 0.31 to 0.99 dL/g (0.5 g/dL, in NMP at 30°C). These polyimides showed enhanced solubilities compared to those derived from 4,4′‐oxydianiline and corresponding dianhydrides. Especially, polyimides 7a , derived from rigid PMDA and TB‐ODA ( 5 ) can also be soluble in THF, DMF, DMAc, DMSO, and NMP. These polyimides also exhibited good thermal stability. Their glass transition temperatures measured by thermal mechanical analysis (TMA) ranged from 251 to 328°C. When the same dianhydrides were used, polyimides 7 containing four bromide substituents had higher glass transition temperatures than polyimides 6 containing two bromide substituents. The effects of incorporating more polarizable bromides on the refractive indices of polyimides were also investigated. The average refractive indices (nav) measured at 633 nm were from 1.6088 to 1.7072, and the in‐plane/out‐of‐plane birefringences (Δn) were from 0.0098 to 0.0445. It was found that the refractive indices are slightly higher when polyimides contain more bromides. However, this effect is not very obvious. It might be due to loose chain packing resulted from bromide substituents at the 2,2′ and 2,2′,6,6′ positions of the oxydiphenylene moieties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new diimide–diacid chloride (3) containing a noncoplanar 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐biphenylene unit was synthesized by treating 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐diamino‐biphenylene with trimellitic anhydride followed by refluxing with thionyl chloride. Various new poly(ester‐imide)s were prepared from 3 with different bisphenols by solution polycondensation in nitrobenzene using pyridine as hydrogen chloride quencher at 170°C. Inherent viscosities of the poly(ester‐imide)s were found to range between 0.31 and 0.35 dL g?1. All of the poly(ester‐imide)s, except the one containing pendent adamantyl group 5e, exhibited excellent solubility in the following solvents: N,N‐dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, tetrachloroethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, m‐cresol, o‐chlorophenol, and chloroform. The polymers showed glass‐transition temperatures between 166 and 226°C. The 10% weight loss temperatures of the poly(ester‐imide)s, measured by TGA, were found to be in the range between 415 and 456°C in nitrogen. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel, asymmetric diamine, 3‐(4‐aminophenylthio)‐N‐aminophthalimide, was prepared from 3‐chloro‐N‐aminophthalimide and 4‐aminobenzenethiol. The structure of the diamine was determined via IR and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. A series of polyimides were synthesized from 3‐(4‐aminophenylthio)‐N‐aminophthalimide and aromatic dianhydrides by a conventional two‐step method in N,N‐dimethylacetamide and by a one‐step method in phenols. These polyimides showed good solubility in 1‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, m‐cresol, and p‐chlorophenol, except polyimide from pyromellitic dianhydride, which was only soluble in p‐chlorophenol. The 5% weight loss temperatures of these polyimides ranged from 460 to 498°C in air. Dynamic mechanical thermal analysis indicated that the glass‐transition temperatures of the polyimides were in the range 278–395°C. The tensile strengths at break, moduli, and elongations of these polyimides were 146–178 MPa, 1.95–2.58 GPa, and 9.1–13.3%, respectively. Compared with corresponding polyimides from 4,4′‐diamiodiphenyl ether, these polymers showed enhanced solubility and higher glass‐transition temperatures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel ternary‐copolymer of fluorinated polyimides (PIs) were prepared from 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluoromethylphenoxy)benzene (pBATB), commercially available aromatic dianhydrides, and aromatic diamines via a conventional two‐step thermal or chemical imidization method. The structures of all the obtained PIs were characterized with FTIR, 1H‐NMR, and element analysis. Besides, the solubility, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and moisture uptakes of the PIs were investigated. The weight‐average molecular weight (Mw) and the number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the PIs were determined using gel‐permeation chromatography (GPC). The PIs were readily dissolved not only in polar solvents such as DMF, DMAc, and NMP, but also in some common organic solvents, such as acetic ester, chloroform, and acetone. The glass transition temperatures of these PIs ranged from 201 to 234°C and the 10% weight loss temperatures ranged from 507 to 541°C in nitrogen. Meanwhile, all the PIs left around 50% residual even at 800°C in nitrogen. The GPC results indicated that the PIs possessed moderate‐to‐high number‐average molecular weight (Mn), ranging from 9609 to 17,628. Moreover, the polymer films exhibited good mechanical properties, with elongations at break of 8–21%, tensile strength of 66.5–89.8 MPa, and Young's modulus of 1.04–1.27 GPa, and low moisture uptakes of 0.54–1.13%. These excellent combination properties ensure that the polymer could be considered as potential candidates for photoelectric and microelectronic applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl.
