The steam gasification properties of three different ranks of coals, Shengli lignite (SL), Shenhua subbituminous coal (SH), and Tavan Tolgoi anthracite (TT), were investigated using a lab-scale fixed-bed reactor, and the thermodynamic equilibrium constant and kinetics of the reaction were analyzed. The results showed that the aromaticity and condensation of aromatic structures in SL, SH, and TT became higher, and the maturity of organic substance became lower. The steam gasification reaction showed that the syngas from low-rank SL had a high H2/CO molar ratio, while the syngas from high-rank TT had relatively high CO content. The direct carbon gasification reactions for these three different ranks of coals were far from in equilibrium; the water gas shift reaction of SL was near equilibrium, and the degree of reaction for SL was higher than that of SH and TT. We studied a random pore model (RPM), shrinking core model (SCM), and hybrid model (HM), and the hybrid model was found to be the most suitable model of the three for fitting the steam gasification reactions of the three types of coal. It had high fitting correlation coefficient R2 values (ranging from 0.9939 to 0.9990) and small average error θ values (ranging from 0.009 to 0.016). The apparent activation energy E values of SL, SH, and TT fitted by HM were 179.10, 48.14, and 63.06 kJ/mol, respectively, and the corresponding pre-exponential factor k0 values were 3.14 × 107, 1.01, and 1.22 min−1, respectively. This study finds that the steam gasification of SL, SH, and TT coal samples consists of homogeneous phase reaction and shrinking core reaction.  相似文献

In this paper, the performance of a solar gas turbine (SGT) system integrated to a high temperature electrolyzer (HTE) to generate hybrid electrical power and hydrogen fuel is analyzed. The idea behind this design is to mitigate the losses in the electrical power transmission and use the enthalpy of exhaust gases released from the gas turbine (GT) to make steam for the HTE. In this context, a GT system is coupled with a solar tower including heliostat solar field and central receiver to generate electrical power. To make steam for the HTE, a flameless boiler is integrated to the SGT system applying the SGT extremely high temperature exhaust gases as the oxidizer. The results indicate that by increasing the solar receiver outlet temperature from 800 K to 1300 K, the solar share increases from 22.1% to 42.38% and the overall fuel consumption of the plant reduces from 7 kg/s to 2.7 kg/s. Furthermore, flameless mode is achievable in the boiler while the turbine inlet temperature (TIT) is maintained at the temperatures higher than 1314 K. Using constant amounts of the SGT electrical power, the HTE voltage decreases by enhancing the HTE steam temperature which result in the augmentation of the overall hydrogen production. To increase the HTE steam temperature from 950 K to 1350 K, the rate of fuel consumption in the flameless boiler increases from 0.1 m/s to 0.8 m/s; however, since the HTE hydrogen production increases from 4.24 mol/s to 16 mol/s it can be interpreted that the higher steam temperatures would be affordable. The presented hybrid system in this paper can be employed to perform more thermochemical analyses to achieve insightful understanding of the hybrid electrical power-hydrogen production systems.  相似文献

The combustion characteristics such as combustion performance, coking, and slagging—at high temperatures (700–1300 °C) of bituminous coal and lignite were investigated and compared. The results show that the ignition temperature and the activation energy of lignite are lower than those of bituminous coal, and the combustion index and the burnout index are less than those of bituminous coal. Lignite has almost no coking while bituminous coal tends to coke at high temperatures. The larger the content and reflectivity of the vitrinite, the more severe the degree of coking. In the range of 700–1300 °C, the increase of temperature has little influence on the coking characteristics of lignite and bituminous coal. The low-rank lignite has larger amounts of mineral content which tend to form low-fusion-temperature eutectics. Furthermore, there is a connection between the combustion performance, coking and slagging characteristics through the maceral compositions: the coal which is hard to ignite but easy to burn out is more likely to have strong coking ability. Meanwhile, coking tends to keep alkaline oxides stay in the char and reinforce slagging at high temperatures.  相似文献

Presently, sugarcane bagasse (SB) and oat hulls (OH) have a distinctive potential as a renewable source of biomass, due to its global availability, which is advantageous for producing liquid and gaseous fuels by thermochemical processes. Thermo-Catalytic Reforming (TCR) is a pyrolysis based technology for generating energy vectors (char, bio-oil and syngas) from biomass wastes. This work aims to study the conversion of SB and OH into fuels, using TCR in a 2 kg/h continuous pilot-scale reactor at different pyrolysis temperatures. The pyrolysis temperatures were studied at 400, 450 and 500 °C, while the subsequent reforming temperature remained constant at 500 °C. The bio-oil contained the highest calorific value of 33.4 and 33.5 MJ/kg for SB and OH, respectively at 500 °C pyrolysis temperature, which represented a notable increase compared to the raw material calorific value of SB and OH (16.4 and 16.0 MJ/kg, respectively), this was the result of deoxygenation reactions occurring. Furthermore, the increment of the pyrolysis temperature improved the water content, total acid number (TAN), viscosity and density of the bio-oil. The syngas and the biochar properties did not change significantly with the increase of the pyrolysis temperature. In order to use TCR bio-oil as an engine fuel, it is necessary to carry out some upgrading treatments; or blend it with fossil fuels if it is to be used as a transportation fuel. Overall, TCR is a promising future route for the valorisation of lignocellulosic residues to produce energy vectors.  相似文献

Various metal nanoparticle catalysts supported on Vulcan XC-72 and carbon-nanomaterial-based catalysts were fabricated and compared and assessed as substitutes of platinum in microbial electrolysis cells (MECs). The metal-nanoparticle-loaded cathodes exhibited relatively better hydrogen production and electrochemical properties than cathodes coated with carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) did. Catalysts containing Pt (alone or mixed with other metals) most effectively produced hydrogen in terms of overall conversion efficiency, followed by Ni alone or combined with other metals in the order: Pt/C (80.6%) > PtNi/C (76.8%) > PtCu/C (72.6%) > Ni/C (73.0%) > Cu/C (65.8%) > CNPs (47.0%) > CNTs (38.9%) > plain carbon felt (38.7%). Further, in terms of long-term catalytic stability, Ni-based catalysts degraded to a lesser extent over time than did the Cu/C catalyst (which showed the maximum degradation). Overall, the hydrogen generation efficiency, catalyst stability, and current density of the Ni-based catalysts were almost comparable to those of Pt catalysts. Thus, Ni is an effective and inexpensive alternative to Pt catalysts for hydrogen production by MECs.  相似文献

The scientific novelty of the research is that for the first time differences in the conditions and characteristics of the ignition and burning of droplets of slurries prepared on the basis of coals and waste from their enrichment have been established. The practical significance of the research results is that they illustrate the prospects of utilization of the numerous coal enrichment wastes by combustion in the composition of aqueous slurries with the generation of a rather large amount of energy and a relatively small negative environmental impact. The most significant characteristics were compared: the limiting (minimum) temperature; the ignition delay times; the maximum combustion temperature; the concentration of the main gas anthropogenic emissions. It has been found that fuel mixtures prepared from wet waste of coal flotation are characterized by higher inertia and ignition temperatures compared to slurries with high-quality coal dust. However, the established differences considering the availability and low cost of filter cakes illustrate the prospects of waste derived fuel combustion. The combustion heat of the investigated slurries based on coal and filter cake with addition of petroleum products differs by no more than 5–30%. The average difference between the duration of ignition for fuel droplets based on dust and filter cake of coking and low-caking coals is about 20%. At that the addition of waste turbine oil (10% wt.) into the filter cake reduces the duration of ignition by 12–25% and the ignition temperature – by 10–15 °C without a significant increase in anthropogenic gas emissions. The difference between the minimum ignition temperatures of coal and waste coal based slurries was from 10 °C to 80 °C. On environmental and economic indicators, coal waste is more attractive than coal.  相似文献

Lignite, also known as brown coal, and char derived from lignite by pyrolysis were investigated as fuels for direct carbon solid oxide fuel cells (DC-SOFC). Experiments were carried out with 16 cm2 active area, electrolyte supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), using pulverized solid fuel directly fed to DC-SOFC anode compartment in a batch mode, fixed bed configuration. The maximum power density of 143 mW/cm2 was observed with a char derived from lignite, much higher than 93 mW/cm2 when operating on a lignite fuel. The cell was operating under electric load until fuel supply was almost completely exhausted. Reloading fixed lignite bed during a thermal cycle resulted in a similar initial cell performance, pointing to feasibility of fuel cell operation in a continuous fuel supply mode. The additional series of experiments were carried out in SOFC cell, in the absence of solid fuels, with (a) simulated CO/CO2 gas mixtures in a wide range of compositions and (b) humidified hydrogen as a reference fuel composition for all cases considered. The solid oxide fuel cell, operated with 92%CO + 8%CO2 gas mixture, generated the maximum power density of 342 mW/cm2. The fuel cell performance has increased in the following order: lignite (DC-SOFC) < char derived from lignite (DC-SOFC) < CO + CO2 gas mixture (SOFC) < humidified hydrogen (SOFC).  相似文献

Understanding the icing characteristics of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) is essential for optimizing their cold-start performance. This study examined the effects of start-up temperature, current density, and microporous layer (MPL) hydrophobicity on the cold-start performance and icing characteristics of PEMFCs. Further, the cold-start icing characteristics of PEMFCs were studied by testing the PEMFC output voltage, impedance, and temperature changes at different positions of the cathode gas diffusion layer. Observation of the MPL surface after cold-start failure allowed determination of the distribution of ice formation at the catalytic layer/MPL interface. At fuel cell temperatures below 0 °C, supercooled water in the cell was more likely to undergo concentrated instantaneous freezing at higher temperatures (−4 and −5 °C), whereas the cathode tended to freeze in sequence at lower temperatures (−8 °C). In addition, a more hydrophobic MPL resulted in two successive instantaneous icing phenomena in the fuel cell and improved the cold-start performance.  相似文献

The inefficient extracellular electron transfer (EET) is detrimental to power generation and waste degradation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Herein, we report a self-supporting anode for MFCs prepared by graphitization of steamed bread slices followed by in-situ polymerization to fabricate polyaniline@N-doped macroporous carbon foam (PANI@NMCF). The natural nitrogen-containing wheat flour was fermented and carbonized to form NMCF with a high specific surface area of 818.1 m2 g?1. After the NMCF surface modified by PANI, the enhanced hydrophilicity and conductivity of the PANI@NMCF anode would facilitate microbial adhesion, biofilm formation, and electron transfer. The surface improvements enhance the EET process for high-performance MFCs, including a short startup time of 21.7 h, high maximum output power density of 1160 ± 17 mW m?2, and decolourisation efficiency of 88.6 ± 1.2% for 36 h. The chemical oxygen demand removal efficiency was about 84.6 ± 1.1% at end of the operating cycles. This work provides a good foundation for our future development of carbon-based electrode materials for energy conversion and storage devices.  相似文献

The thermocatalytic alteration of CH4 into highly pure hydrogen and filaments of carbon was investigated on a series of Ni-catalysts with various contents (25, 40, 55, and 70 wt%) supported mesoporous spherical SiO2. The silica with ordered structure and high specific surface area (1136 m2/g) was synthesized using the Stöber technique with TEOS as a silica precursor and CTAB as the template in a simple synthesis system of aqueous-phase. This technique led to the preparation of mesoporous spherical silica. The prepared samples were characterized using BET, TPR, XRD, TPO, and SEM analyses. The prepared catalysts with different nickel loading showed the BET surface area ranging from 225.0 to 725.7 m2/g. These results indicated that an increase in nickel content decreases the surface area and leads to a subsequent collapse of a pore structure. SEM analysis confirmed a spherical nanostructure of catalysts and revealed that with the increase in loading of Ni, the particle size enlarged, because of the agglomeration of the particles. The results implied that the high methane conversion of 54% obtained over the 55 wt% Ni/SiO2 at 575 °C and this sample had higher stability at lower reaction temperature than the other prepared catalysts, slowly deactivation was observed for this catalyst at a period of 300 min of time on stream.  相似文献

Evolution of highly durable electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is the most critical barrier in commercializing polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). In this work, Pt deposited N-doped mesoporous carbon derived from Aloe Vera is developed as an efficient and robust electro catalyst for ORR. Due to its high mesoporous nature, the aloe vera derived carbon (AVC) play a very vital role in supporting Pt nanoparticles (NPs) with N-doping. After doping N into AVC, more defects are created which facilitates uniform distribution of Pt NPs leading to more active sites towards ORR. Pt/N-AVC shows excellent ORR activity when compared with commercial Pt/C and showing a half wave potential (E1/2–0.87 V Vs. RHE) and reduction potential (Ered ~ 0.72 V Vs. RHE) towards ORR. Even after 30,000 potential cycles, Pt/N-AVC shows in its E1/2 only ~5 mV negative shift and lesser agglomeration of Pt NPs is seen in the catalyst. In membrane electrode assembly (MEA) fabrication, Pt/N-AVC as a cathode catalyst in a PEMFC fixture and performance were studied. The Pt/N-AVC shows good performance, which proves the potential application of this naturally available bio derived carbon, which serves as an excellent high durable support material in PEMFC. All these features show that the Pt/N-AVC is the most stable, efficient and suitable candidate for ORR catalyst.  相似文献

The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the production of hydrogen-rich fuel gas from J. curcas residue cake. A comprehensive experimental study for the production of hydrogen rich fuel gas from J. curcas residue cake via downdraft gasification followed by high temperature water gas shift catalytic treatment has been carried out. The gasification experiments are performed at different equivalence ratios and performance of the process is reported in terms of producer gas composition & its calorific value, gas production rate and cold gas efficiency. The producer gas is cleaned of tar and particulate matters by passing it through venturi scrubber followed by sand bed filter. The clean producer gas is then compressed at 0.6 MPa and bottled into a gas cylinder. The bottled producer gas and a simulated mixture of producer gas are then subjected to high temperature shift (HTS) catalytic treatment for hydrogen enriched gas production. The effect of three different operating parameters GHSV, steam to CO ratio and reactor temperature on the product gas composition and CO conversion is reported. From the experimental study it is found that, the presence of oxygen in the bottled producer gas has affected the catalyst activity. Moreover, higher concentration of oxygen concentration in the bottled producer gas leads to the instantaneous deactivation of the HTS catalyst.  相似文献

Polymeric carbon/activated carbon aerogels were synthesized through sol-gel polycondensation reaction followed by the carbonization at 800 °C under Argon (Ar) atmosphere and subsequent physical activation under CO2 environment at different temperatures with different degrees of burn-off. Significant increase in BET specific surface area (SSA) from 537 to 1775 m2g1 and pore volume from 0.24 to 0.94 cm3g1 was observed after physical activation while the pore size remained constant (around 2 nm). Morphological characterization of the carbon and activated carbons was conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to investigate the effect of thermal treatment (surface cleaning) on the chemical composition of carbon samples.Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to analyse the capacitive and resistive behaviour of non-activated/activated/and surface cleaned activated carbons employed as electroactive material in a two electrode symmetrical electrochemical capacitor (EC) cell with 6 M KOH solution used as the electrolyte.CV measurements showed improved specific capacitance (SC) of 197 Fg1 for activated carbon as compared to the SC of 136 Fg1 when non-activated carbon was used as electroactive material at a scan rate of 5 mVs−1. Reduction in SC from 197 Fg1 to 163 Fg1 was witnessed after surface cleaning at elevated temperatures due to the reduction of surface oxygen function groups. The result of EIS measurements showed low internal resistance for all carbon samples indicating that the polymeric carbons possess a highly conductive three dimensional crosslinked structure. Because of their preferred properties such as controlled porosity, exceptionally high specific surface area, high conductivity and desirable capacitive behaviour, these materials have shown potential to be adopted as electrode materials in electrochemical capacitors.  相似文献

In this work, a sol-gel Ni–Mo2C–Al2O3 catalyst is employed for the first time in the glycerol steam reforming for syngas production. Catalyst stability and activity are investigated in the temperature range of 550 °C–700 °C and time on stream up to 30 h. As reaction temperature increases, from 550 °C to 700 °C, H2 yield boosts from 22% to 60%. The stability test, carried out at milder conditions (600 °C and Gas-Hourly Space-Velocity (GHSV) of 50,000 mL h−1.gcat−1), shows high catalyst stability, up to 30 h, with final conversion, H2 yield, and H2/CO ratio of 95%, 53% and 1.95, respectively. Both virgin and spent catalysts have been characterized by a multitude of techniques, e.g., Atomic-Absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, N2-adsorption-desorption, and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), among others. Regarding the spent catalysts, carbon deposits’ morphology becomes more graphitic as the reaction temperature increases, and the total coke formation is mitigated by increasing reaction temperature and lowering GHSV.  相似文献

The catalysts used to facilitate the water gas shift reaction (WGSR) are generally harmful to the environment. Therefore, catalysts that have high activity and stability in WGSR and do not pollute the environment need to be fabricated. Herein, three promoters (La, Pr, and Zr) are added into Co–CeO2 (CoCe) catalyst to improve catalytic performance in a high temperature WGSR to produce high-purity hydrogen from waste-derived synthesis gas. Various techniques are employed to confirm the changes in the properties that affect the catalytic performance. The catalytic reaction is performed at a high gas hourly space velocity to screen the performance of the promoted CoCe catalysts. The CoCeZr catalyst shows the highest CO conversion (XCO = 88% at 450 °C) due to its high Co dispersion and oxygen vacancy resulting from the addition of Zr to the CoCe catalyst; thus, it is most suitable for use in high temperature WGSR.  相似文献

Long-term chemical stability of proton exchange membranes in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) is an important issue for widespread commercialization. Here, we report on the chemical stability of a membrane-electrode assembly with a 7 μm thick pore-filling membrane (porous substrate filled with high ion exchange capacity perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) polymer) using an open-circuit voltage hold test. The very thin pore-filling membrane shows comparable chemical durability to Nafion 211. Interestingly, the pore-filling membrane shows a different degradation behavior from Nafion 211 due to the use of chemically and mechanically stable porous substrate, with no thickness change and little amounts of fluorine leakages are observed in the pore-filling membrane compared to membrane thinning and large amounts of fluorine leakage in Nafion 211. The thin pore-filling membrane shows promise for application in PEFCs, as it balances high fuel cell performance at high temperature and low relative humidity with high chemical durability.  相似文献

Carbon nanostructure materials are becoming of considerable commercial importance, with interest growing rapidly over the decade since the discovery of carbon nanofibers. In this study, a new novel method is introduced to synthesize the carbon nanofibers by gas-phase, where a single-stage microwave-assisted chemical vapour deposition approach is used with ferrocene as a catalyst and acetylene and hydrogen as precursor gases. Hydrogen flow rate plays a significant role in the formation of carbon nanofibers, as being the carrier and reactant gas in the floating catalyst method. The effect of process parameters such as microwave power, radiation time and gas ratio of C2H2/H2 was investigated statistically. The carbon nanofibers were characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The analysis revealed that the optimized conditions for carbon nanofibers production were microwave power (1000 W), radiation time (35 min) and acetylene/hydrogen ratio (0.8). The field emission scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope analyses revealed that the vertical alignment of carbon nanofibers has tens of microns long with a uniform diameter ranging from 115 to 131 nm. High purity of 93% and a high yield of 12 g of CNFs were obtained. These outcomes indicate that identifying the optimal values for process parameters is important for synthesizing high quality and high CNF yield.  相似文献

In this study, a practical fuel cell vehicle considering the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system is considered to analyze hydrogen consumption under different working conditions. As a prevalent hydrogen-fueled vehicle, Toyota Mirai has been meticulously modeled in Simecenter Amesim software. The simulated model covers all of the vehicle's components with a concentration on Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system. Since the air temperature and ‘weather conditions can significantly impact the vehicle's overall performance, various environmental conditions, including temperature variations, humidity, and varied solar fluxes, are taken into account. Furthermore, New York City is chosen as a densely populated megacity to simulate the dynamic behavior of the fuel cell vehicle under actual driving circumstances. The results illustrate that the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning system can notably alter hydrogen consumption under real driving conditions. In this regard, turning on the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system results in a 19% increase in fuel consumption. Moreover, the degradation phenomenon, which is a typical result of using fuel cell vehicles under urban driving conditions, impacts the vehicle's mileage and hydrogen consumption. The simulation results indicate that a fresh fuel cell stack consumes 80 g of hydrogen, while for 2500 and 5500 working hours fuel cells, the stack consumes 89.6 and 107 g of hydrogen, respectively. Based on the obtained results, a 33.75% increase in fuel consumption occurs by implementing a degraded fuel cell stack under real driving conditions.  相似文献

Supercritical water is a promising medium to convert plastics into hydrogen and other recyclable products efficiently. In previous research, supercritical water gasification characteristics investigations focus on thermoplastics instead of thermoset plastics due to its chemical, thermal and mechanical stability. Urea-formaldehyde (UF) plastics were selected as a typical kind of thermoset plastics for investigation in this paper and quartz tubes were used as the reactor in order to avoid the potential catalytic effect of metal reactor wall. Conversion characteristic were studied and the influence of different operating parameters such as temperature, reaction time, feedstock mass fraction and pressure were investigated respectively. The molar fraction of hydrogen could reach about 70% in 700 °C. Products in gas phase and solid phase were analyzed, and properties, chemical structures and inhibition mechanism of thermoset plastics was analyzed after comparing with polystyrene (PS) plastics. The result showed that increase of high temperature and long reaction time could promote gasification process, meanwhile the increase in the feedstock mass fraction would result in suppression of the gasification process. Finally, kinetic study of UF was carried out and the activation energy and pre-exponential factor of the Arrhenius equation were calculated as 30.09 ± 1.62 kJ/mol and 0.1199 ± 0.0049 min−1, respectively.  相似文献

Marble processing leads to the production of high amount of waste marble powder (WMP) as a byproduct, which can be a potential health risk and has hazardous impacts on the surrounding environment. However, marble is composed of calcite making it suitable for the calcium-based catalyst. Moreover, no study has been carried out to utilize this WMP in municipal solid waste (MSW) gasification process. Therefore, there is a need to address its utilization as a potential catalyst/sorbent in the gasification of municipal solid waste (MSW). A laboratory scale batch-type fixed bed reactor was used to study the effect of WMP addition on the CO2 adsorption, steam reforming capability and char gasification in the presence of steam. Produced gas composition, gas yield, carbon conversion efficiency and tar yield were examined at different WMP to MSW ratios. Effect of temperature and steam rate varying from 700 to 900 °C and 2.5–10 ml/min respectively were also considered in this study. WMP showed a good capacity towards hydrogen enriched syngas production as well as CO2 adsorption and tar reforming. The H2 concentration increased significantly with an increase in the WMP to MSW mass ratio, while CO2 decreased. A significant effect of temperature and steam rate was also observed on the produced gas composition, gas yield, and tar content. This study helps us to understand the effect of WMP addition in MSW gasification process and thus assists in the industrial application.  相似文献
