A multipole analysis of a coaxial rectangular waveguide whose inner conductor is circular is made in order to determine the TE and TM modes of the system. The analysis is based on using multipole (dipole, quadrupole etc.) electric and magnetic current sources to generate field solutions in the waveguide. These solutions are used to match the electromagnetic boundary condition in a homogeneous coaxial rectangular waveguide and to determine the TE and TM eigenvalues of the waveguide system. Eigenvalue results are compared with results of the generalized spectral domain method and to eigenvalue results for a ridged waveguide. Propagation in a coaxial rectangular waveguide is also studied when the coaxial rectangular waveguide is loaded with lossy inhomogeneous dielectric material. A variational formula is used to relate the TEM, TE, and TM modes of an empty coaxial rectangular waveguide to the propagation in the loaded inhomogeneous dielectric waveguide 相似文献

A formally exact full-wave solution is presented for the problem of scattering at a nonchiral-chiral interface in a coaxial waveguide. The field components for the axisymmetric modes in a coaxial chirowaveguide are initially obtained. A new orthogonality relation for the modes is then proposed and used to find expansion coefficients for the electromagnetic fields in the coaxial chirowaveguide. The scattering matrix for the nonchiral-chiral dielectric discontinuity in a coaxial waveguide is finally derived by enforcing the continuity conditions of the tangential field components across the interface. A diffusion-cooled CO2 laser using a coaxial waveguide is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The resonator used for extracting the laser beam consists of two annular plane mirrors enclosing the two ends of the waveguide. The beam exits through an aperture in one of these annular mirrors. The mirror tilt is shown to provide efficient beam extraction through this aperture. A theoretical resonator model based on the vector modes of propagation in a dielectric coaxial waveguide is presented. Experimental data show the feasibility of coaxial waveguide lasers and their ability to supply beams of high power and quality. A novel mode converter that transforms coaxial transverse electromagnetic (TEM) mode to TE/sub 11/ circular waveguide mode is investigated. It is shown that with four metal plates inserted in the coaxial waveguide, the TEM mode will be converted to coaxial TE/sub 11/ mode, and finally, it forms a TE/sub 11/ conventional circular waveguide mode. The experimental test results are in good agreement with the computer simulations, which demonstrates the feasibility of the mode converter. 相似文献

The mode conversion process in a coaxial waveguide with varying-radius center and outer conductors is shown to be described by a system of first-order differential equations-the coupled mode equations. The nondiagonal coefficients of this system are called the coupling coefficients. In this paper, we derive the explicit expressions for the coupling coefficients in a varying-radius coaxial waveguide and discuss some of their important features. These coefficients can be used in determining model conversion in a coaxial cavity with slowly varying walls or designing and analyzing coaxial waveguide tapers and mode converters. A wideband orthogonal-mode junction (OMJ) using a quad-ridged circular coaxial waveguide and four single-ridged sectoral waveguides is described. The new structure is used for extracting a wide lower band signal from a coaxial dual-band feed. Theoretical results show that the broadband incoming signal in the quad-ridged coaxial waveguide can be coupled to four single-ridged sectoral waveguides with low reflection. The new structure transforms a complex system to a simple single-ridged sectoral waveguide where multi-band separation can be accomplished by a number of means. Overmoded coaxial waveguides have been used in coaxial gyrotrons as a key interaction structure. To achieve the required mode selectivity, the resistivity of the center conductor is properly chosen to damp unwanted modes. Considering attenuation due to conductor loss, this study employs the perturbational method to determine the propagation constants of higher-order modes in the coaxial waveguide. The validity of the theoretical model is confirmed by comparison with results obtained using the high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS). Moreover, the method proposed herein is applied to analyze the ohmic mode selection of the coaxial waveguide. 相似文献

A theoretical formulation for the input impedance of an overmoded coaxial probe fed coaxial waveguide has been derived in terms of the geometrical variables, the modal field solutions, and the probe excitation current distribution. The formulation includes higher order mode propagation, a variable probe length, and general coaxial terminations in the secondary waveguide. A coaxial waveguide amplitude commutation feed system has been developed for application to the scanning circular array antenna problem. A dominant TEM mode and a pair of orthogonal TE/sub 11/ modes suitably excited at the input of a coaxial waveguide feed are employed to generate a simply commutatable low-sidelobe discrete amplitude distribution at the peripheral output ports of the coaxial circular array feed. The major advantages of the coaxial commutator feed compared to other circular array feed types are the broad bandwidth and small insertion loss simultaneously achieved with a simple feed geometry. The reflection characteristics of the TE11 mode in a coaxial waveguide antenna due to mismatch at the radiating aperture are described. Results are presented for conventional coaxial waveguide as well as waveguide whose inner conductor extends beyond the aperture plane. Coaxial wavegulde mismatch is often quite large, particularly for conditions of good pattern symmetry, and some matching is usually required. A broad-band matching technique using annular rings inside the waveguide is described for the case where there is no external conductor.
