We report a pulsed erbium-doped fiber laser with simultaneous switching of the laser cavity Q-value and generation wavelength. The laser generates a train of short pulses with adjacent pulses alternately being on one of two fixed wavelengths. A simple continuously wavelength-tunable fiber ring laser pulse source is demonstrated. Such a source employs a gain-switched multiple quantum-well Fabry-Perot laser diode in a self-seeding scheme and the output pulse wavelength can be tuned continuously via a tunable optical filter. The optical pulses generated exhibit a pulsewidth of 92 ps at the frequency of 2.6 GHz. Within a wide wavelength tuning range of 46 nm, the side-mode suppression ratio and the average power of the output optical pulses obtained are higher than 50.1 dB and 3.3 dBm, respectively, and the pulse spectral stability can be maintained in the whole wavelength tuning range.  相似文献

Serrodyne frequency translation of continuous optical signals by /spl plusmn/1.28 GHz is reported, significantly exceeding the highest previously published serrodyne shifts. To achieve these shifts, an ultrawide-band high-power electrical sawtooth created by spectral modulation of dispersed optical pulses was used. Its amplification involved a novel predistortion technique to compensate for the gain and phase ripple in the amplifier bandwidth.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of picosecond triangular optical pulses using a superstructured fiber Bragg grating and show experimentally that use of this pulse shape can provide a three-fold improvement in conversion efficiency relative to the use of Gaussian pulses with similar pulsewidths when used in a wavelength conversion scheme based on self-phase modulation and subsequent offset filtering.   相似文献

A novel scheme to generate dual-wavelength picosecond optical pulses has been demonstrated. The pulses are obtained by self-injection seeding of a gain-switched laser diode simultaneously at two different wavelengths. Optical feedback is provided by a partially reflecting fiber mirror. Single-mode pulses at alternate wavelengths around 1.3 μm have been generated. The pulse width varies from about 40 to 50 ps. The output wavelengths can be tuned by changing the electrical modulation frequency. Spacing between the wavelengths can also be controlled by adjusting the length of the dispersive fiber cavity. 谐振式光纤陀螺(R-FOG)是采用环形谐振腔来增强Sagnac效应的,其检测方案可以分为开环和闭环,在电路实现上,根据相位调制器控制信号的不同,又分为模拟调制和数字调制。相比而言,其数字闭环检测方案具有动态范围大、灵敏度高的特点。在数字调制的谐振式光纤陀螺中,其阶梯波的复位高度V2π是否精确,会对旋转角速度的测量和标度因数的线性度产生影响。从理论上分析了不精确的复位高度V2π对系统的影响,指出不精确的V2π将使谐振腔中的交叉耦合电场和直通耦合电场之间不会形成最佳相消干涉,从而产生误差。利用探测器输出总电场的表达式,以双频率调制的谐振式光纤陀螺为例,对引入的误差作了定量的数值计算,最后给出了克服误差的几种方法。  相似文献

We describe a 10-GHz multiwavelength pulse source based on high-order four-wave mixing products generated by a saturated optical fiber parametric amplifier. We employ a nonlinear modulation scheme for the pump which plays two roles. First, it enables us to use a high pump power with no phase modulation, and second, it yields narrow (6 ps) pulses with a constant spectral width and the same jitter level (/spl sim/150 fs) for the signal and three idler wavelengths.  相似文献

A novel scheme for all-optical broadcast ultra-wideband (UWB) monocycle pulses generation based on cross-phase modulation (XPM) in semiconductor fiber ring laser (SFRL) is proposed, in which three UWB positive or negative monocycle pulses can be generated simultaneously. A comprehensive broad-band dynamic model for this kind of all-optical broadcast UWB monocycle sources is established, which is further applied to numerically analyze the impacts of injection current of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), the power and wavelength of the signal light on the performance of the UWB positive monocycle pulses with higher power spectral density. The results show that the spectra of the UWB positive and negative monocycle pulses generated by this scheme match the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) definition quite well. Three UWB positive monocycle pulses with better performance can be obtained when the power of signal light is at a high level, and three other UWB positive monocycle pulses with good tolerance to both the injection current of the SOA and the wavelength of the signal light can be obtained. In addition, the powers of the lasing light coupled into the SFRL should not be strong to obtain three UWB positive monocycle pulses with better performance.  相似文献

A new approach to generate switching-wavelength picosecond pulses is developed based on a dispersion-managed semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) fiber laser cavity. Gain modulation on a 1.55-/spl mu/m SOA is used together with subharmonic gating of pulses in the cavity. An 8-GHz, eight-wavelength output is obtained with a constant spacing of 0.91 nm between neighboring wavelengths. The wavelength channels have nearly identical peak powers. The total amplitude and time jitter of the output is measured to be smaller than 0.4 ps. The spacing and the number of output wavelengths can be easily tuned by changing the operating frequency and the subharmonic ratio without modifying the optical cavity.  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) ring network employing a centralized multiwavelength light source to supply all nodes with optical carriers of precise wavelength spacing. This approach overcomes the problem of monitoring and controlling the wavelengths of optical sources dispersed throughout the network. A four-node test bed using optical lattice-type add-drop multiplexing filters and a multiwavelength light source based on resonant cavity-enhanced four wave mixing in a Fabry-Perot laser diode was constructed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. The effects of coherent crosstalk in such networks are analyzed, and methods such as phase scrambling or the use of a pulsed optical source are shown to significantly reduce the effects of coherent crosstalk. The use of four-port add-drop multiplexer (ADM) filters instead of 1:n optical wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexers to implement the wavelength add-drop function at each node is shown to lead to a broader transmission bandwidth for each channel and also easier compatibility with the coherent crosstalk suppression mechanisms described  相似文献

In this letter, a novel scheme for a wavelength-tunable pulse source (WTPS) is proposed and characterized. It is based on four-wave mixing (FWM) in a newly developed highly nonlinear fiber between a return-to-zero (RZ) pulsed signal at a fixed wavelength and a continuous wave probe tunable in wavelength. The corresponding FWM product acts as the WTPS, and is implemented in a 10-Gb/s, 160-km transmission experiment and in a 40-Gb/s multiplexing/demultiplexing experiment. The scheme can be expanded to a multiwavelength WTPS, which is demonstrated for two wavelengths. The introduced penalty using the WTPS compared to the original RZ pulses is negligible  相似文献

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) scheme for providing broadcasting service by using an inverted amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). In this scheme, single pump signal is converted into multiple wavelengths signal by spectrum sliced wavelength conversion. We expect it could be very practical and cost-effective solution for broadcasting in WDM-PON due to its simplicity.  相似文献

An ultra-wideband over fiber architecture is proposed where multiple coherent pulsed optical signals are used for transmitting high data rate signals to five different radio access units (RAUs). The RAUs are placed in a star topology to form a broadcast distributive antenna system architecture. The architecture transmits \(5 \times 1.25\) Gbps data from control unit to the RAUs using a wavelength division multiplexed signal. The multiple pulsed optical carriers forming the wavelength division multiplexed signal are generated using a single continuous wave optical source. The data modulated coherent optical pulsed signals are all-optically converted to electrical Gaussian mono-cycle pulses at the RAUs. The proposed architecture is cost-efficient and gives good bit-error rate results.  相似文献

A resonator fiber optic gyro using digital serrodyne modulation for control the input lightwave frequency is proposed. In the system, phase modulators in an integrated waveguide circuit are used, instead of an acousto-optical modulator (AOM) frequency shifters with bulky shapes. With operating the signal digitally, it becomes easy to track the resonant frequency by the feedback with a higher accuracy. Errors due to nonideal digital serrodyne waveform are analyzed and are shown to be small enough. Performances of this system are experimentally demonstrated, under open-loop and closed-loop operation. The proposed scheme can implement the ways to reduce the noises without increasing the number of optical elements  相似文献

An optical wavelength converter based on second-order cascaded interactions in a waveguide is presented. The conversion mechanism relies on the combination of amplification and nonlinear dephasing of a signal field in the presence of a strong pump field at the phase-matching wavelength for second-harmonic generation. The considered scheme of the device is that of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The performance is numerically evaluated in the pulsed regime. A wide conversion bandwidth and high conversion efficiency is found. An operating regime can be found in which a significant reshaping of the output pulses, with respect to input pulses, can be observed.  相似文献

We propose a novel scheme to generate the ultra-wideband (UWB) doublet signal pulse based on the cross-gain modulation (XGM) in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). In the scheme, only an optical source and an SOA are needed. As there is only one wavelength included in the output doublet signal pulse, no time difference between the upper and down pulses is introduced during the transmission process. By using the software of Optisystem 7.0, the impacts of the optical power, the SOA current, the wavelength and the input signal pulse width on the generated doublet pulse are simulated and tudied numerically. The results show that when the pulse width of the input signal pulse is larger, the output signal pulse is better, and is insensitive to the change of wavelength. In addition, the ultra-wideband positive and negative monocycles can be generated by choosing suitable optical source power and SOA current.  相似文献
