Hydrophilic coatings based on 3‐glicidoxy propyl trimethoxy silane (GPTMS) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were prepared with the incorporation of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and silica nanoparticle colloidal suspension by a sol–gel process. Characterization of the coatings has been performed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Attenuated Total Reflectance Infrared (ATR‐IR) techniques. Morphological properties were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The distribution of Si atoms in the hybrid system was obtained by Si mapping. The particle size in sol solution of the coating was measured by light scattering analyzer. Optical properties were characterized by using UV–vis spectrophotometer. The hydrophilicity of the coating was determined by contact angle measurements, and also the results have been confirmed by surface energy and water uptake investigations. The obtained results indicate that the surfactants affected the contact angles remarkably but did not change the transparency. It has been found that applying silica nano particles leads to coatings with different properties than those using TMOS, while siloxane contents were the same in these two set of coatings. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new method for coating glass slides with ZnO particles with an average size of 200 nm is proposed in the current article. The coating was performed under microwave radiation. Two main morphologies are found for the ZnO crystals that are deposited on glass slides. The first morphology is that of a very dense coating of ZnO hexagonal rods growing perpendicular to the glass surface. The second is the growth of ZnO flower‐like particles. In addition to coating the glass by ZnO particles, we also report on coating other polymers [poly(methyl methacrylate) plate, polycarbonate beads, Nylon 6,6 beads, and polypropylene beads) by ZnO. The morphology obtained for ZnO coated on polymers is different from that detected for coating ZnO on glass. The unorganized coating of ZnO rods on polymers has been observed. The coated glass slides were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, volumetric titration, EDS, scanning electron microscope, and optical measurements (DRS and transmittance spectroscopy). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To improve the biocompatibility of AISI 316L, bioactive glass (BG) coating of SiO2–CaO–P2O5 which helps bonding with bone implants was used by an electrophoretic deposition method. Before coating deposition, the samples were treated by shot peening, known as an efficient process for metal grain refinement and fatigue properties. The stainless steel 316L was investigated in terms of microstructure, texture, and roughness. This research covers the effects of chosen shot peening parameter on the BG-coating properties on the obtained results. Shot peening was carried using two different sets of parameters as conventional shot peening, and severe shot peening. Wettability, roughness, microstructure, coating thickness, and corrosion behavior of coated sample were investigated in terms of potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in simulated body fluid (SBF) solutions at 37°C. The results indicated that the coating thickness decreased from 35.5 ± 10 µm for coated not peened (CNP) to 20 ± 5 and 17 ± 2 µm for coated conventionally shot-peened (CCSP) and coated severely shot-peened (CSSP), respectively. As well as, the water contact angle of CSSP sample was equal to 15.71° which is much lower than CNP (20.7°). The protection ability of the tested samples in the SBF was improved in the following order: CCSP < CNP < CSSP. 相似文献

A number of chemical and physical factors influence the glass transition behaviour of anhydride-cured diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) type epoxy resins. Several of these were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry to assess the nature of the glass transition, the transition temperature and the glass- and liquid-phase specific heats. The influence of molecular weight and chemical functionality, cooling rate and silica fillers were investigated for unreacted epoxy prepolymers. Two anhydride-cured systems were also considered and the influence of cure with and without silica fillers and the effect of phase separation and cooling rate were investigated. 相似文献
