The paper reports the results of an experiment on the performance and retention of a complex task. This was a computer-based simulation of the essential elements of a spacecraft's life support system. It allowed the authors to take a range of measures, including primary and secondary task performance, system intervention and information sampling strategies, mental model structure, and subjective operator state. The study compared the effectiveness of two methods of training, based on low level (procedure-based) and high level (system-based) understanding. Twenty-five participants were trained extensively on the task, then given a 1-h testing session. A second testing session was carried out 8 months after the first (with no intervening practice) with 17 of the original participants. While training had little effect on control performance, there were considerable effects on system management strategies, as well as in structure of operator's mental model. In the second testing session, the anticipated general performance decrement did not occur, though for complex faults there was an increase in selectivity towards the primary control task. The relevance of the findings for training and skill retention in real work environments is discussed in the context of a model of compensatory control.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine whether short-term intermittent hypoxic training would enhance sea level aerobic and anaerobic performance over and above that occurring with equivalent sea level training. Over a 4-week period, two groups of eight moderately trained team sports players performed 30 min of cycling exercise three times per week. One group trained in normobaric hypoxia at a simulated altitude of 2750 m (F(I)O2= 0.15), the other group trained in a laboratory under sea level conditions. Each training session consisted of ten 1-min bouts at 80% maximum workload maintained for 2 min (Wmax) during the incremental exercise test at sea level separated by 2-min active recovery at 50% Wmax. Training intensities were increased by 5% after six training sessions and by a further 5% (of original Wmax) after nine sessions. Pre-training assessments of VO(2max), power output at onset of 4 mM blood lactate accumulation (OBLA), Wmax and Wingate anaerobic performance were performed on a cycle ergometer at sea level and repeated 4-7 d following the training intervention. Following training there were significant increases (p < 0.01) in VO(2max) (7.2 vs. 8.0%), Wmax (15.5 vs. 17.8%), OBLA (11.1 vs. 11.9%), mean power (8.0 vs. 6.5%) and peak power (2.9 vs. 9.3%) in both the hypoxic and normoxic groups respectively. There were no significant differences between the increases in any of the above-mentioned performance parameters in either training environment (p > 0.05). In addition, neither haemoglobin concentration nor haematocrit were significantly changed in either group (p > 0.05). It is concluded that acute exposure of moderately trained subjects to normobaric hypoxia during a short-term training programme consisting of moderate- to high-intensity intermittent exercise has no enhanced effect on the degree of improvement in either aerobic or anaerobic performance. These data suggest that if there are any advantages to training in hypoxia for sea level performance, they would not arise from the short-term protocol employed in the present study.  相似文献

Four groups of postmen were trained to type alpha-numeric code material using a conventional typewriter keyboard. Training was based on sessions lasting for one or two hours occurring once or twice per day. Learning was most efficient in the group given one session of one hour per day, and least efficient in the group trained for two 2-hour sessions. Retention was tested after one, three or nine months, and indicated a loss in speed of about 30%. Again the group trained for two daily sessions of two hours performed most poorly. It is suggested that where operationally feasible, keyboard training should be distributed over time rather than massed.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the use of heuristic rules to prepare operators for the management of unfamiliar fault states. An experiment was carried out to examine the effects of heuristic rule training on operator performance and system management behaviour. Thirty-nine trainee operators from the chemical industry took part in the study. They were trained for 4 h on a PC-based simulation of a process control task. Operators in the experimental group received training on heuristic rules while operators in the control group did not. One week later the operators participated in a 70-min testing session. While the results showed that heuristic rules training led to better diagnostic performance, it was also associated with increased operator fatigue and impaired secondary task performance. The article proposes a multi-level approach for evaluating communication skills training (CST) as an important element of crew resource management (CRM) training. Within this methodological framework, the present work examined the effectiveness of CST in matching or mismatching team compositions with regard to hierarchical status and competence. There is little experimental research that evaluated the effectiveness of CRM training at multiple levels (i.e. reaction, learning, behaviour) and in teams composed of members of different status and competence. An experiment with a two (CST: with vs. without) by two (competence/hierarchical status: congruent vs. incongruent) design was carried out. A total of 64 participants were trained for 2.5 h on a simulated process control environment, with the experimental group being given 45 min of training on receptiveness and influencing skills. Prior to the 1-h experimental session, participants were assigned to two-person teams. The results showed overall support for the use of such a multi-level approach of training evaluation. Stronger positive effects of CST were found for subjective measures than for objective performance measures. STATEMENT OF RELEVANCE: This work provides some guidance for the use of a multi-level evaluation of CRM training. It also emphasises the need to collect objective performance data for training evaluation in addition to subjective measures with a view to gain a more accurate picture of the benefits of such training approaches.  相似文献

In an earlier set of studies with a different Intelligently Coached Simulation (Orey, M.A., Fan, H., Park, J., Tzeng, S., & Gustafson, K. (1995). Evaluation of Device operator in a context of a coached simulation environment), we found a retention and a transfer problem. We tried to solve these problems while building a new Intelligently Coached Simulation (the SINCGARS Tutor). The solutions to the two problems were to use an interactive conceptual model for the retention problem and we used photographs of the equipment as the visuals of the simulation. We then tested this new tutor with a group of 22 officers who were not only required to know how to operate the SINCGARS radio, but would be responsible for teaching others in their unit when their training was complete. We had one group of officers train on the real equipment, in pairs, with one instructor available for guidance. The other group of 11 learned via the SINCGARS Tutor. The post test was to put an actual radio into operation while being observed by a trained observer. Results indicate that not only did the transfer problem go away, but officers trained on the computer performed the task more accurately both initially on the immediate post test and again on a surprise four-week delayed post test. The SINCGARS Tutor was found to be a very good training solution.  相似文献

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is the leading cause of absenteeism from the workplace and research into exercise interventions to address this problem is required. This study investigated training frequency for participants with CLBP. Participants either trained once a week (1 × week, n = 31), or twice a week (2 × week, n = 20) or did not (control group, n = 21). Participants were isometric strength tested in weeks 1 and 12 and trained dynamically either 1×week (80% of maximum) or 2×week (80% and 50%). The results (pre vs. post) showed significant increases in maximal strength, range of motion and reductions in pain for both training groups. Pain scores for the 1 × week and 2 × week both reached minimal clinical improvement change unlike the control group. Thus, one lumbar extension training session per week is sufficient for strength gains and reductions in pain in low back pain in CLBP patients. PRACTITIONER SUMMARY: CLBP is the leading cause of absenteeism from the workplace. The present study using a modified randomised control trial design investigated exercise training frequency for participants with CLBP. One lumbar extension training session per week is sufficient for strength gains and reductions in low back pain in CLBP patients.  相似文献

This study examines how the process of skill retention (including both recall and reconstruction) can benefit from systemic training information that covers several structural, functional, physical (e.g., causal links), and supervisory features (e.g., system control and instrumentation). An experiment was carried out in which a group of participants who received systemic information was compared to a group trained in plant theory and to another three groups trained in heuristics that ranged in terms of high‐ and low‐level diagnostic information. Learning curves revealed that all groups achieved high accuracy scores in diagnosing faults in a distillation plant. Six weeks later, a retention test showed that the systemic group (S) had a better recall score than the groups trained in theory (T) and high‐level heuristics (HH). In addition, the S group had a better reconstruction score than the groups receiving the high‐ and low‐level heuristics (H+) and the low‐level diagnostic information (HL). An interesting finding was that high‐level diagnostic information seemed to support the reconstruction phase of the retention process, whereas low‐level information better supported the recall phase. Overall, it appeared that systemic information enabled trainees to acquire task cues to help recall and reconstruct diagnostic heuristics. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 针对在RGB空间很难有效区分颜色相似性的问题,选择HSI颜色空间进行图像处理和分析。首先计算饱和度、色度、亮度等色差分量,通过引入模糊熵,构造出一组基于模糊熵的信息测度分量来定量描述图像的边缘特征。利用训练样本获取该组分量,并组成一特征向量对BP神经网络进行训练,然后将训练的BP网络直接用于边缘检测。BP网络的结构和训练比较简单,而且不需要设定阈值检测边缘。实验表明,该方法具有较强的细节保持能力,达到了令人满意的边缘检测效果。  相似文献

This study measured the effect of a feedback training program on lumbar compression during simulated occupational lifting. Two distinct types of feedback were compared: real-time electromyographic feedback, vs. an acceleration index delivered verbally post-lift. Kinematic data were collected from 28 subjects during symmetrical sagittal plane lifts. Following a baseline session, two feedback training sessions were provided, with a 1-week interval between each session. A control group followed the same protocols, but without receiving feedback training. A post-training session, using protocols identical to the baseline session, was used to assess pre-to-post changes in the dependent variable: peak lumbosacral compression computed using a dynamic linked-segment model. All three groups showed reductions in peak compression from pre-to-post: on average the control group improved by 11.2%, the EMG group by 16.7%, and the acceleration group by 25.3%. The results revealed an interaction between the improvement and the group (p=0.023), and a difference between the improvement in the control group and that in the verbal acceleration feedback group (p<0.01). These reductions in lumbosacral compression persisted after a 7-day interval without feedback training, suggesting that this approach could provide sustained risk-reduction during manual materials handling.  相似文献

We examined the retention of performance in memory, visual, and hybrid memory/visual search after subjects received extensive consistent mapping (CM) practice. In the first two experiments we examined retention of detection performance in memory scanning (Experiment 1) and in visual search (Experiment 2) approximately one month after training. In the third experiment we examined performance 1, 30, 90, 180, and 365 days following training on pure visual and hybrid memory/visual semantic-category search tasks. We examined retention at intervals up to one year after practice as a function of amount of CM practice. In addition, we assessed the degree of category activation (performance on untrained words from the trained categories) at each retention interval. Across experiments, we found no decay in CM trained memory search and minimal decay in pure visual search. Significant decline in CM performance was largely attributable to performance in the hybrid memory/visual search conditions. These data reconcile previously equivocal retention results for CM trained search performance.  相似文献

Twenty-seven non-ergonomists who participated in a one-day training session on the use of the NIOSH lifting equation (NLE) were subsequently tested on a simulated lifting task eight weeks later to determine their accuracy in measuring the variables. Analysis of the results indicate that (1) inter-observer variability was small, especially for the most important factor (i.e. horizontal distance); (2) individuals can be trained to make measurements with sufficient accuracy to provide consistent recommended weight limit and lifting index values; and (3) measurement of the coupling and asymmetric variables were the least accurate.  相似文献

We examined the differential benefits of instructional materials for younger and older adults learning to use a home medical device. Participants received training on use of a blood glucose meter via either a user manual (a text guide with pictures) or an instructional video. Performance was measured immediately and then after a 2-week retention interval. Type of instruction was critical for determining older adults' performance. Older adults trained using the manual had poorer performance than did all other groups. After only 1 calibration, older adults who received video training performed as accurately as did the younger adults. Older adults' performance was more influenced by the retention interval; however, the benefit of the video training was maintained for the older adults across the retention interval. Confidence ratings paralleled subjective workload ratings. The data provide practical information to guide the development of training programs for systems that will be used by both younger and older adults; they also demonstrate the need for age-related usability testing even for training program design.  相似文献

Detailed monitoring of training sessions of elite athletes is an important component of their training. In this paper we describe an application that performs a precise segmentation and labeling of swimming sessions. This allows a comprehensive breakdown of the training session, including lap times, detailed statistics of strokes, and turns. To this end we use semi-Markov models (SMM), a formalism for labeling and segmenting sequential data, trained in a max-margin setting. To reduce the computational complexity of the task and at the same time enforce sensible output, we introduce a grammar into the SMM framework. Using the trained model on test swimming sessions of different swimmers provides highly accurate segmentation as well as perfect labeling of individual segments. The results are significantly better than those achieved by discriminative hidden Markov models.  相似文献

提出一种改进的基于地面反作用力的步态识别方法.该方法通过由三维测力台构建的步态通道获取步行时足底受到的三方向地面反作用力,并采用小波包分解提取时频域特征,利用模糊C 均值聚类算法从中挑选出最具分类能力的特征子集,最后在训练样本上用支持向量机训练分类器,并在测试集上进行步态识别.为提高识别率,对样本进行拆分和波形对齐操作,并设计多分类器以降低步行速度变化对识别准确率的影响.在103人的步态数据库上的测试结果表明,该方法即使在训练样本较少的情况下也可以得到较高的识别率.  相似文献
