Colloidal particles with a repulsive interparticle potential spontaneously form crystalline lattices, which are used as a motif for photonic materials. It is difficult to predict the crystal arrangement in spherical volume as lattices are incompatible with a spherical surface. Here, the optimum arrangement of charged colloids is experimentally investigated by encapsulating them in double‐emulsion drops. Under conditions of strong interparticle repulsion, the colloidal crystal rapidly grows from the surface toward the center of the microcapsule, forming an onion‐like arrangement. By contrast, for weak repulsion, crystallites slowly grow and fuse through rearrangement to form a single‐crystal phase. Single‐crystal structure is energetically favorable even for strong repulsion. Nevertheless, a high energy barrier to colloidal rearrangement kinetically arrests the onion‐like structure formed by heterogeneous nucleation. Unlike the isotropic onion‐shaped product, the anisotropic single‐crystal‐containing microcapsules selectively display—at certain orientations but not others—one of the distinct colors from the various crystal planes.  相似文献

Vicker’s microhardness measurements have been carried out on single crystals of CaF2, SrF2, BaF2, CdF2, PbF2, EuF2, ThO2, NaClO3, NaBrO3, Bi4 (GeO4)3, Bi4(SiO4)3, Bi12GeO20 and Bi12SiO20. The hardness values are discussedvis-a-vis the interatomic binding in these crystals. While most of the fluorite-type crystals are highly ionic, covalency is indicated in the bismuth compounds studied.  相似文献

Efforts are made to improve the hardness of rubidium halide crystals by (i) solid solution hardening and (ii) impurity hardening. Systematic microhardness measurements have been made on rubidium halide mixed crystals (RbBr-RbI and KI-RbI) and rubidium halide crystals doped with Sr2+ ions. The composition dependence of the hardness of mixed crystals follows the law ΔH v =K x (1− x),where ΔH v is the enhancement in hardness,K a constant andx and (1 −x) the concentrations of the first and second component of the mixed crystals, respectively. The hardness of doped crystals increases with the concentrationC of the dopant according to the law, ΔH v+6 =k C m ,wherek andm are constants. The relative efficacy of the two methods of hardening is discussed.  相似文献

Vickers hardness measurements have been made on polycrystalline blanks of CsCl x Br(1−x) and single crystals of NH4Cl x Br(1−x). The composition dependence of hardness is highly nonlinear in both systems and follows an empirical model that includes a lattice contribution and a disorder contribution. 提出了电光和旋光晶体中相移的精确计算方法。计算了电光和旋光效应中,当外界电场方向和传播方向任意时晶体的折射率。用作者建立的斜入射时晶体的相移公式研究了相移随入射角和方位角的改变。如果选择适当的方位角,相移对准直的灵敏度将有所改进。  相似文献

为提高SiO2微球的表面电荷密度,通过改进Stober法,引入电解质NaCl合成SiO2微球,并采用垂直沉积法制备出光子晶体.通过Zeta电位粒度仪、带EDS能谱仪的场发射扫描电子显微镜(SEM)和紫外-可见-近红外光谱仪对其电学性能、显微形貌和光学性能进行测试分析.Zeta电位测试结果显示改性SiO2:微球的Zeta电位平均提高11.39mV;EDS能谱分析表明微球中含有钠元素;SEM照片表明样品平均粒径为334 nm,平均标准偏差小于5%,所得光子晶体为面心立方密排结构;吸收光谱表明在725nm处具有光子晶体带隙.  相似文献
