An InP-based 1*16 optical power splitter is demonstrated. The device has 250 mu m spaced output channels and a total length of 5.1 mm. This small size was realised by using a free-space radiative input-output coupling and specially designed 1.85 mm curvature S-bends. The worst case excess loss for TM and TE polarised light is 3 dB.<> 相似文献

The performance of a novel 1*8 optical power splitter is demonstrated. Consisting of seven three-guide power couplers connected in a cascade manner, the splitter has a relatively short length of 11 mm. The use of a tapered waveguide in the constituent couplers should make it possible for this power splitter to provide a wide bandwidth and little polarization dependence. Silica waveguide Y branching 1*8 splitters were fabricated and found to be highly reliable after housing. The silica waveguide has a splitting excess loss of 0.57 dB. The packaged device has a housing excess loss of 0.89 dB. The measured return loss was over 50 dB above room temperature. The loss deviation under heat cycle testing was 0.46 dB in the temperature range -20-+70 degrees C.<> 相似文献

An integrated-optic 1×128 power splitter is demonstrated. It is composed of a slab waveguide, funnel-shaped waveguides, and output waveguides. Input light from a fiber is diffracted in the slab waveguide and received by funnel waveguides. To achieve uniform power splitting, the width of the funnel waveguides is designed based on the Gaussian diffraction pattern; that is the funnel widths increase progressively away from the center. The splitter is fabricated with GeO2-doped silica waveguides on silicon. The 1×128 splitting is achieved with a low excess loss of 2.3 dB and a small standard deviation of 0.63 dB 相似文献

A compact power splitter based on the multimode interference (MMI) effect in photonic crystal waveguides is designed and analyzed. The device size reduction compared with the conventional MMI power splitter can be attributed to the large dispersion of the photonic crystal waveguides. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Photonic-Bands code is used to calculate the band structures of photonic crystal waveguides. The maximum data rate in today's available multidrop backplanes is significantly limited due to signal integrity concerns. In this brief, a novel gigabit multidrop serial link configuration for high-speed digital systems based on newly developed asymmetrical broadband power splitters with matching trace impedance, is presented. The proposed power splitter features good impedance match at all ports without the insertion losses being inherent to common resistive power splitters. Experimental results obtained from implemented prototypes demonstrate a satisfactory operation of the proposed multidrop serial backplane for a data rate above 3.5 Gbps. 相似文献

Bent multimode interference-based variable power splitters are experimentally demonstrated in GaAs-AlGaAs using the principles of general imaging. A voltage controlled N coupled waveguide array is studied. N voltages are applied, each one to an individual wave-guide and a diversity of power routing and switching functions are investigated. The approach is based on numerical optimization of the output power distribution for each of the required switching or power splitting functions. The search is performed in the N-dimensional space of the voltage induced index changes. Extinction ratios better than -16 dB are demonstrated for all configurations studied. Two methods for further improving the performance of the device are also discussed. It is shown that the device can accomplish some parallel non-blocking switching functions. A ytterbium-doped fibre laser with up to 1 kW of continuous-wave output power at 1.09 /spl mu/m with a slope efficiency of 80% and a good beam quality (M/sup 2/=3.4) is reported. We propose the first polarization splitter based on antiresonant optical waveguides (ARROW's). The three air core structure is built up of two moveable outer cladding layers and two fixed inner cladding layers. The moveability of both outer cladding layers makes micromechanical switching of the polarized light between two output channels possible. The polarization discrimination is realized through thin metal films deposited on the outermost surfaces of the outer cladding layers. The extinction ratios of channels 1 and 3 as a function of the thickness of all cladding layers are calculated.
