Meat-processing plants have their specific characteristics due to quantity of raw materials processed, production technology, degree of mechanisation of production and space utilization. These characteristics affect variability in consumption of energy carriers. This paper presents a case study of energy consumption in a small meat processing plant. It is attempting to identify and evaluate key factors which may be useful in conducting an in-depth analysis of energy consumption in the meat industry, and so this analysis may be important in selecting the best production techniques available. The results of the analysis are of critical importance for the selection of production technology selection assuming high plant efficiency.  相似文献

Cow preferences for one of two compartments with different floors were tested in a barn with two symmetrical, connected compartments, each intended for 16 cows. Compartments were identical except for the floor. One floor was grooved longitudinally to the feeding barrier and the other was slotted perpendicular to that barrier. Sixteen pregnant, lactating Holstein-Friesian cows were used. After 14 d of habituation, cow behavior was videotaped for 10 full 24-h d, spread over 22 d. Their daily time budget spent on different activities performed in both compartments was analyzed, as was their relocation and use of the concentrate dispenser in each compartment. On average, cows spent 120 min longer per day in the slotted floor compartment than in the grooved floor compartment, and performed all activities in the daily time budget significantly longer in this compartment. However, testing the preference of individuals revealed that, although five cows significantly preferred the slotted floor compartment, two cows significantly preferred the other compartment, and nine cows had no preference. On the slotted floor, cows ate longer at the feeding barrier and more often drank front-on to the water trough; on the grooved floor they more often drank standing parallel to the water trough. Thus, they seemed to prefer to stand parallel to the slots. Relocation of cows, indicated by index of movement, was not significantly different between the floors. Relocation seemed to be stimulated more by the presence of concentrate dispensers in both compartments than by floor profile. Although one floor type was not clearly preferred over the other, the findings and methods of this study have implications for design and implementation of future preference tests for testing husbandry systems and their components.  相似文献

A β-N-acetylhexosaminidase (β-NAHA) (EC 3.2.1.52) with molecular mass of 64.1 kDa and isoelectric point of 5.5 was purified from a commercial papaya latex preparation. The optimum pH for p-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminide (pNP-β-GlcNAc) hydrolysis was five; the optimum temperature was 50 °C; the Km was 0.18 mM, Vmax was 37.6 μmol min−1 mg−1 and activation energy (Ea) was 10.3 kcal/mol. The enzyme was thermally stable after holding at 30–45 °C for 40 min, but its activity decreased significantly when the temperature exceeded 50 °C. Heavy metal ions, Ag+ and Hg2+, at a concentration of 0.25 mM and Zn2+ and Cu2+, at a concentration of 0.5 mM, significantly inhibited enzyme activity. The β-NAHA had only one active site for binding both pNP-β-GlcNAc and p-nitrophenyl-N-acetyl-β-d-galactosaminide (pNP-β-GalNAc). A prototropic group with pKa value of about five on the enzyme may be involved in substrate binding and transformation, as examined by Dixon–Webb plots.  相似文献

Adsorption of quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (rutin) onto Amberlite® XAD 16HP was studied applying a modified D-optimal design. Temperature, pH value, rutin concentration and resin amount were studied as independent factors determining rutin adsorption. Using the mathematical model resulting from the analysis of the D-optimal design the optimal conditions for rutin adsorption onto the styrene–divinylbenzene copolymer were determined. Furthermore, the model equation was successfully applied to calculate the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm parameters of this particular solute–sorbent system. In addition, the data obtained from the D-optimal design allowed the calculation of ΔG, ΔH and ΔS for the adsorption process. The results presented in this study are of utmost importance for a better understanding of adsorption phenomena. The more detailed knowledge of such sorbent systems is required to improve the cost-effectiveness of industrial processes for the recovery of secondary plant metabolites, such as polyphenols, based on resin adsorption technology.  相似文献

The relationship between chlorophyll a (Chl a) and β-carotene during illumination in the presence of fatty acid esters, methyl stearate methyl oleate and methyl linoleate was studied. Mixtures of Chl a, β-carotene and fatty acid esters were exposed to a 40 w light for 3 h. Isomerization and degradation reations of Chl a and β-carotene were monitored using HPLC with diode array detection Three isomers of Chl a and four cis isomers of β-carotene were separated and detected. Both the degradations of total amount of Chl a and β-carotene fit the first-order model. The degradation rate of total amount of β-carotene was highest in methyl stearate, followed by in methyl oleate and in methyl linoleate, while a reverse order was observed for the degradation rate of total amount of Chl a. In the presence of three fatty acid esters, Chl a is more susceptible to isomerization and degradation than β-carotene, and the degradation rates for both Chl a and β-carotene are significantly different (p < 0.05).  相似文献

Consumers report difficulties when trying to make healthy food choices in supermarkets due to environmental cues that favour the acquisition of unhealthy food items. This study’s objective was to investigate food selection in a supermarket to prepare a last minute meal by consumers with different levels of health consciousness. In an experimental design, 50 high (HHC) and 50 low health conscious (LHC) participants (n = 100) were told to choose all food items to prepare a meal for themselves plus a guest. For half the participants (25 HHC and 25 LHC), the expression ‘healthy meal’ was embedded in the instruction. To evaluate shopping healthfulness, foods selected by the participants were categorized according to level of industrial processing in Unprocessed/Minimally Processed (U/MP); Processed Culinary Ingredient (PCI); Processed (P), or Ultra-Processed (UP). The health reminder positively affected the choices of HHC and LHC individuals. Results indicate that placing reminders of healthy eating in shopping environments where P and UP foods sales are heavily promoted, such as supermarkets, can be a useful tool to promote healthy choices in accordance with what is recommended by the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population.  相似文献

The demand for bioactive molecules, such as β-carotene (β-car), has increased, but some characteristics such as low water solubility and low photo stability limit its application in many formulations. The bioactive entrapment into milk proteins may overcome this barrier. Thus, the aim of this work was to study the interaction between β-car and bovine serum albumin (BSA) or β-casein and the photo stability of this bioactive in the presence of the proteins. Fluorescence spectroscopy showed that at pH 7.0, increasing concentrations of β-carotene reduced the fluorescence intensity of both proteins, and the fluorescence-quenching mechanism is mainly static. The stoichiometry of the β-car/protein complex varied between proteins, being 1:1 to native BSA, 1:3 to denatured BSA (d-BSA), and 1:2 for β-casein. The standard Gibbs-free energy (ΔG°) of complex formation was negative for all systems studied and followed the order ΔG°BSA?<?ΔG°β-casein?<?ΔG°d-BSA. The formation of β-car/protein complex was driven by entropy increasing in all studied conditions. Both proteins improved β-car photo stability, but β-casein micelle was more efficient, reducing and increasing four times, respectively, the bioactive degradation constant and the half-time of β-car. The overall results pointed to the strategic use of milk proteins, especially β-casein micelles as nanovehicle for β-car in food and other systems.  相似文献
