Pilot experiences on the recovery of polluted reverse osmosis membranes

The recovery of Reverse Osmosis membranes, polluted by fouling, precipitations … etc., presents a triple interest: economical, strategical and of feasibility of the procedure in certain applications.The present work describes and analyzes the results obtained in a research project on the possibility of recovering polluted R.O. membranes. To carry out the research, a pilot plant and “industrial” membranes, i.e. of the dimensions and configurations in the market were used.     

On‐Line PEMFC Control Using Parameterized Nonlinear Model‐Based Predictive Control

In this work, a fast nonlinear model‐based predictive control (NMPC) strategy is designed and experimentally validated on‐line on a real fuel cell. Regarding NMPC strategies, the most challenging part remains to achieve on‐line implementation, especially when dealing with fast dynamic systems. As previously demonstrated in a recent work, the proposed control strategy is ideally suited to address this problem. Indeed, it is 30 times faster than classical NMPC controllers. This strategy relies on a specific parameterization of the control actions to reduce the computational time and achieve on‐line implementation. Due to its short computational time compared to mechanistic models, an artificial neural network model is designed and experimentally validated. This model is employed as internal model in the NMPC controller to predict the system behavior. To confirm the applicability and the relevance of the proposed NMPC controller varying control scenarios are investigated on a test bench. The built‐in controller is overridden and the NMPC controller is implemented externally and executed on‐line. Experimental results exhibit the outstanding tracking capability and robustness against model‐process mismatch of the proposed strategy. The parameterized NMPC controller turns out to be an excellent candidate for on‐line applications.     

Shared and practical approach to conserve utilities in eco-industrial parks

Conserving utilities in an eco-industrial park (EIP) by exploiting the synergistic heating/cooling needs of its inhabitants can have significant economic and environmental benefits. However, a successful implementation of an EIP-wide heat integration involves much more than the simple minimization of utility usage. Like any collaborative endeavour involving independent and diverse profit-making enterprises, an EIP-wide heat integration faces several real and practical challenges such as exchanger locations, stream transports over long distances, etc. In this work, we propose a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model (MINLP) for configuring an EIP-wide multi-enterprise heat exchanger network (HEN). We propose a practical and rational strategy that (1) considers all the major capital and operating costs, and utility savings, (2) selects an optimum HEN location with the highest net present value, (3) uses a third-party logistics provider for managing and operating the HEN, and (4) ensures an identical rate of return on investment for all participating enterprises.     

工件视觉测量中的图像配准

设计和实现了一种基于尺度不变特性和Sobel边缘检测算子的工件图像快速配准方法。针对工件视觉测量中重在边缘特征的实际需要,将Sobel边缘检测算子和工件图像的尺度不变特性相结合,突出工件的边缘特征,实现工件图像快速有效的配准。在此基础上,详细讨论了工件图像配准的具体实现。实验证明,文中方法可以有效解决视觉测量中工件图像配准的问题。

渗透汽化膜处理低浓度甲醇废水的研究进展

由于石油资源短缺和我国新能源战略的进一步实施,甲醇被认为是石油替代品之一。随着甲醇需求量的增加,其生产过程中产生的含醇废水也急剧增加,由此造成低浓度甲醇废水污染日趋严重。渗透汽化膜分离技术被认为是治理低浓度甲醇废水的较好方法。简要介绍了渗透汽化膜处理低浓度甲醇废水的研究进展,并对其未来的研究趋势和发展前景进行了展望。     

Parallel observability analysis on networks of workstations

In this work we present the parallelisation of the global strategy with first least-connected node (GS-FLCN), which is a novel structural technique for the classification of unmeasured variables in process plant instrumentation design. The algorithm aims at partitioning the process’ occurrence matrix to a specific block lower-triangular form. A parallel master–workers philosophy is employed to search for all the paths of a given length existing in the associated graph. The code was conceived for distributed environments and the implementation was carried out using the parallel virtual machine (PVM) library. The performance of the parallel algorithm was tested for industrial case studies and the results were compared with those yielded by the sequential version. The time savings achieved thanks to the parallelisation were significant. Besides, in the parallel version, more paths can be explored per unit time. In practice, this implies greater robustness.
