Dispersion of graphite within the acrylonitrile butadiene styrene matrix demonstrates enhanced electromagnetic interference shielding of composites through the use of tumble mixing technique. A shielding effectiveness of 60 dB with 15 wt % of graphite has been achieved. D shore hardness data revealed a little decrease in hardness of composites with rise in graphite content. DC conductivity measurements revealed a fairly low percolation threshold at 3 wt % of graphite. The conductivity exhibited by 15 wt % composite is 1.66 × 10−1 S/cm. These composites are fit for use as an effective and convenient EMI shielding material because of easy processing, better hardness, light weight, and, reasonable shielding efficiency. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of carbon fiber (CF) modification with multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) on the electrical, mechanical, and rheological properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/CF/CNT composite was investigated. The CF and multiwall CNT (MWCNT) were treated with sulfuric acid and nitric acid (3:1 wt %) mixture, to modify the CF with the CNT. For the PC with acid-treated CNT (a-CNT) modified acid-treated CF (a-CF) (PC/a-CF/a-CNT) composite, the electrical conductivity, and the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) showed the highest values, compared with those of the PC/a-CF and PC/a-CF/CNT composites. The EMI SE of the PC/a-CF (10 wt %)/a-CNT (0.5 wt %) composite was found to be 26 (dB at the frequency of 10.0 GHz, and the EMI SE was increased by 91.2%, compared to that of the PC/a-CF composite at the same amount of total filler content. Among the composites studied in this work, the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite also showed the highest values of relative permittivity (εr) and dielectric loss factor. The above results suggest that the CF modification with the a-CNT significantly affected the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the composite, and the hybrid fillers of the a-CNT and a-CF resulted in good electrical pathways in the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness at microwave (200–2000 MHz) and X‐band (8–12 GHz) frequency range of polyaniline (PAni) composites were studied. It has been observed that EMI shielding of conductive polyaniline (PAni)–ethylene vinyl acetate composites increases with the increase in the loading levels of the conductive polymer doped with dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid. The result indicates that the composites having higher PAni loading (>23%) can be used for EMI shielding materials and those with lower PAni loading can be used for the dissipation of electrostatic charge. Morphology, mechanical properties and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of poly(styrene‐b‐ethylene‐ran‐butylene‐b‐styrene)/carbon nanotube nanocomposites: effects of maleic anhydride, carbon nanotube loading and processing method 下载免费PDF全文
Nanocomposites based on poly(styrene‐b‐ethylene‐ran‐butylene‐b‐styrene) (SEBS) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (SEBS/CNT) as well as SEBS grafted with maleic anhydride (SEBS‐MA)/CNT were successfully prepared for electromagnetic shielding applications. Both SEBS/CNT and SEBS‐MA/CNT nanocomposites were prepared by melt compounding and were post‐processed using two different techniques: tape extrusion and compression moulding. The different nanocomposites were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and rheological analysis. Their mechanical properties, electrical properties (10-2–105 Hz) and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (8.2–12.4 GHz) were also evaluated. The results showed that the CNT loading amount, the presence of MA in the matrix and the shaping technique used strongly influence the final morphologies and properties of the nanocomposites. Whilst the nanocomposite containing 8 wt% CNTs prepared by compression moulding presented the highest electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (with a value of 56.73 dB, which corresponds to an attenuation of 99.9996% of the incident radiation), the nanocomposite containing 5 wt% CNTs prepared by tape extrusion presented the best balance between electromagnetic and mechanical properties and was a good candidate to be used as an efficient flexible electromagnetic interference shielding material. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Comparative study of EMI shielding effectiveness for carbon fiber pultruded polypropylene/poly(lactic acid)/multiwall CNT composites prepared by injection molding versus screw extrusion 下载免费PDF全文
The electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness of the composites of polypropylene/poly(lactic acid) (PP/PLA) (70/30, wt %) with single filler of multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) or hybrid fillers of nickel‐coated carbon fiber (CF) and CNT were investigated. For the single filler composite, higher electrical conductivity was observed when the PP‐g‐maleic anhydride was added as a compatibilizer between the PP and PLA. For the composite of the PP/PLA (70/30)/CF (20 phr)/CNT (5 phr), the composite prepared by injection molding observed a higher EMI shielding effectiveness of 50.5 dB than the composite prepared by screw extrusion (32.3 dB), demonstrating an EMI shielding effectiveness increase of 49.8%. The higher values in EMI shielding effectiveness and electrical conductivity of the PP/PLA/CF (20 phr)/CNT (5 phr) composite seemed mainly because of the increased CF length when the composites were prepared using injection molding machine, compared with the composites prepared by screw extrusion. This result suggests that the fiber length of the conductive filler is an important factor in obtaining higher values of electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness of the PP/PLA/CF/CNT composites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conductive polymeric based composites were derived from ethylene vinyl acetate rubber filled with Vulcan XC‐72, short carbon fiber (SCF), and their blends. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE), return loss, and reflection coefficient were studied. The measurements of the SE of the composites were carried out in two different frequency ranges of 100–2000 MHz and 8–12 GHz (X band). It was observed that the SE of the composites was frequency dependent and it increased with increasing frequency. The increasing of filler loading also enhanced the SE of the composites. The 100% SCF filled composites showed a higher SE compared to that of the filler blend or purely carbon black filled composites. The correlation between the SE and bulk conductivity of various composites was also discussed. The compromise between EMI SE, electrical conductivity, and mechanical properties was obtained when the composites contained both types of filler like particulate carbon black and SCF. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Nanocomposites of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared through melt blending in a batch mixer (torque rheometer equipped with a mixing chamber). The morphology, rheological behavior and electrical conductivity were investigated through transmission electron microscopy, dynamic oscillatory rheometry and the two‐probe method. The nanocomposite with 0.5 wt% MWCNT content presented a uniform dispersion through the PVDF matrix, whereas that with 1 wt% started to present a percolated network. For the nanocomposites with 2 and 5 wt% MWCNTs the formation of this nanotube network was clearly evident. The electrical percolation threshold at room temperature found for this system was about 1.2 wt% MWCNTs. The rheological percolation threshold fitted from viscosity was about 1 wt%, while the threshold fitted from storage modulus was 0.9 wt%. Thus fewer nanotubes are needed to approach the rheological percolation threshold than the electrical percolation threshold. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Conductive network formation and its dynamic process for multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and carboxyl‐tethered MWNT (MWNT‐COOH) filled poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) systems were investigated. Based on real‐time tracing the variation of electrical resistivity of systems with isothermal treatment time, the conductive network formation was evaluated. It was found that the conductive network formation was temperature and time dependent. The percolation time, characterized at a certain annealing time where the electrical resistivity started to decrease drastically, decreased with the increase of the filler concentration or the annealing temperature. However, the values of the percolation time and the activation energy of conductive network formation for the PVDF/MWNT‐COOH system were higher than those of the PVDF/MWNT system, indicating that the interaction between MWNTs and PVDF molecules played an important role in the conductive network formation of the composites. Furthermore, a modified thermodynamic percolation model was proposed to predict the percolation time of PVDF/MWNT composites. It was found that the calculated results fit the experimental data very well. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009 相似文献

Dispersion and electrical properties of fluorinated carbon black‐filled poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composites were studied as a function of the fluorine content. It was found that with increasing the fluorine content carbon particles tend to stick together to form large aggregates. The percolation concentration increases to a high concentration, whereas the percolation process becomes gradual. The temperature dependence of resistivity measurements show that the fluorinated carbon black‐filled PVDF composites exhibit a high PTC intensity and a low NTC effect. These phenomena were discussed in terms of thermodynamic interactions between fluorinated carbon and the PVDF matrix. The dielectric behavior was also investigated in this study. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 80: 1063–1070, 2001 相似文献

Copper‐embedded low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) composites were fabricated using different copper concentrations in the polymer matrix. The copper particles were spherical with a mean particle size between 200 and 300 nm. All the samples were compacted under pressure and melted. The LDPE matrix was analyzed using gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and it did not evidence degradation of the LDPE matrix. The microstructure of the composites was examined with scanning electron microscopy. The electrical conductivity was measured as a function of the copper content, and the composite fabricated with a 10 vol % copper presented a conductivity 15 orders of magnitude higher than that of pure LDPE. The enhancement in conductivity can be explained by means of segregated percolation path theory and the experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical law. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanostructured carbon-based polymeric nanocomposites are gaining research interest because of their cost-effectiveness, lightweight, and robust electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. Till now, it is a great challenge to design and fabricate highly scalable, cost-effective nanocomposites with superior EMI shielding performance. Herein, highly scalable EMI shielding material with tunable absorbing behaviors comprising of low-budget ketjen black (K-CB) reinforced poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposites have been prepared using simple solvent assisted solution mixing technique followed by hot compression technique. The morphological investigation revealed the homogeneous distribution of K-CB and strong interfacial interaction in PMMA matrix, which validated the strong reinforcement and other intriguing properties of the nanocomposites. The PMMA nanocomposites showed a low percolation threshold (2.79 wt%) and excellent electrical conductivity due to the formation of 3D conductive network like architecture within the polymer matrix. Specifically, the 10 wt% K-CB nanocomposite possessed a superior EMI shielding performance of about 28 dB for X-band frequency range. Further, a huge change in EMI shielding performance of PMMA nanocomposites is observed with varying thickness. The brand new K-CB decorated PMMA nanocomposites are expected to open the door for next-generation cost-effective EMI shielding materials for academic and industrial applications. 相似文献

The electromagnetic interference shielding characteristics of polypropylene (PP) and poly(ether imide) (PEI) filled with synthetic graphite composites were studied. The thermal properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis, whereas the morphologies of the composites were studied by scanning electron microscopy. The viscosity measurements were studied by advance rheometry. The measurements of shielding effectiveness (SE) were carried out in the frequency range 8–12 GHz (X‐band range). The return loss and loss due to absorption were also measured as a function of frequency in the X‐band range. It was observed that the SE of the composites was frequency dependent, and it increased with increasing frequency. The SE also increased with increasing filler loading. The PEI‐based composites showed a higher SE compared to that of the PP‐based composites. The correlation between SE and the conductivity of the various composites is also discussed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008 相似文献

This study presents the preparation of electrically conducting poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL)/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites with very low percolation threshold (pc). The method involves solution blending of PCL and MWCNT in the presence of commercial PCL beads. The PCL beads were added into high viscous PCL/MWCNT mixture during evaporation of solvent. Here, the used commercial PCL polymer beads act as an ‘excluded volume’ in the solution blended PCL/MWCNT region. Thus, the effective concentration of the MWCNT dramatically increases in the solution blended region and a strong interconnected continuous conductive network path of CNT−CNT is assumed throughout the matrix phase with the addition of PCL bead which plays a crucial role to improve the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) and electrical conductivity at very low MWCNT loading. Thus, high EMI SE value (∼23.8 dB) was achieved at low MWCNT loading (1.8 wt %) in the presence of 70 wt % PCL bead and the high electrical conductivity of ∼2.49×10−2 S cm−1 was achieved at very low MWCNT loading (∼0.15 wt %) with 70 wt % PCL bead content in the composites. The electrical conductivity gradually increased with increasing the PCL bead concentration, as well as, MWCNT loading in the composites. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) powders were mounted on an electroless nickel/phosphorous (Ni/P) film on the surface of a carbon fiber by an electroless codeposition method. This type of carbon fiber filler, denoted FENCF, was then compounded with acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) for use in electromagnetic interference shielding. For the suspension of the PTFE powders, a surfactant was used. Although the adhesion between the electroless Ni/P–PTFE films and the fiber was reduced, the PTFE powders on the surface of FENCF reduced the torque values when compounded into the ABS matrix because of a self‐lubricating effect. The two‐step FENCF composites exhibited particularly significant advantages. The torque values for the two‐step FENCF/ABS composites were about one‐half of those for carbon fiber/ABS composites in compounding processes; in addition, the former had an average mean fiber length almost 2.5 times that of the latter. The multiyield phenomena in stress–strain curves of FENCF/ABS composites implied that the PTFE powders mounted on Ni/P films slid during stress–strain action. The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of FENCF/ABS composites did not decrease significantly even though the PTFE powders formed a discontinuous phase on the electroless Ni/P films. The mechanical properties of FENCF composites were enhanced because of the larger fiber length. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 85: 1661–1668, 2002 相似文献

The effects of hybrid fillers of carbon fiber (CF) and multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) on the electrical conductivity, electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE), flame retardancy, and mechanical properties of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/poly(acrylonitrile-co-styrene-co-acrylate) (PolyASA) (70/30, wt %) with conductive filler composites were investigated. The CF was used as the main filler, and MWCNT was used as the secondary filler to investigate the hybrid filler effect. For the PBT/PolyASA/CF (8 vol %)/MWCNT (2 vol %) composite, a higher electrical conductivity (1.4 × 100 S cm−1) and EMI SE (33.7 dB) were observed than that of the composite prepared with the single filler of CF (10 vol %), which were 9.0 × 10−2 S cm−1 and 23.7 dB, respectively. This increase in the electrical properties might be due to the longer CF length and hybrid filler effect in the composites. From the results of aging test at 85 °C, 120 h, the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the composites decreased slightly compared to that of the composite without aging. The results of electrical conductivity, EMI SE, and flame retardancy suggested that the composite with the hybrid fillers of CF and MWCNT showed a synergetic effect in the PBT/PolyASA/CF (8 vol %)/MWCNT (2 vol %) composite. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The evaluation and optimization of EMW absorbing properties have been widely studied, but little research focused on EMI shielding properties predicted by complex permittivity. Based on the transmission-line theory, shielding effectiveness (SE) of a dielectric composite was evaluated by the reflection coefficient (Г) and transmission coefficient (T) which were calculated by the complex permittivity. SiCf/SiCN composites containing different content of CVI SiCN matrix are attractive for their tunable dielectric properties, which may vary from EMW absorption to EMI shielding. Therefore, SiCf/SiCN composites are typical dielectric composites used for experimental verification, and the results indicate that the dielectric composites without CVI SiCN phase have good EMW absorbing properties, while they exhibit good EMI shielding effectiveness with CVI SiCN phase. This work builds a relationship between the EMI shielding effectiveness and the complex permittivity, and obtains the optimized complex permittivity for excellent EMI shielding effectiveness. 相似文献

A novel high‐performance material with enhanced electrical properties was obtained by tuning the phase morphology of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK)/thermoplastic polyimide (TPI)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites. MWCNTs were selectively located in the TPI phase due to discrepant affinity of MWCNTs between PEEK and TPI. The dependence of the electrical properties of the PEEK/TPI/MWCNT composites on the phase morphology was investigated by changing the PEEK/TPI ratio, and the maximum conductivity was achieved with a PEEK/TPI ratio of 50/50, which could be explained by the selective location of MWCNTs and the co‐continuous phase morphology of the composites. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Composites of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and short carbon fibers (SCFs) with different aspect ratios of the SCFs were prepared by the solution casting technique. The electrical percolation thresholds of the composites are highly influenced by the SCF aspect ratio calculated using both the Sigmoidal Boltzmann model and classical percolation theory. It was observed that the percolation threshold of PVDF/SCF composites decreases with an increase in the aspect ratio of the SCFs in the PVDF matrix. Different theoretical models were used to check the alignment of the SCFs in the PVDF matrix. The applicability of the theoretical models was tested to predict the composition‐dependent electrical conductivity at different SCF loadings and aspect ratios and the predictions were compared with experimental results. The effect of the fiber aspect ratio on the AC electrical conductivity was also investigated. Finally, the transparency of the composites was tested with the help of UV?visible spectroscopy and exhibits an SCF loading dependence in the PVDF matrix. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

The reinforcement of mechanical properties of polymeric materials is often important for widening their applications; however, it remains a technical challenge to effectively increase toughness without degrading stiffness and strength of the polymers. In this work, by a facile methodology combining solution mixing and melt blending, poly(vinylidene fluoride)/multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (PVDF/MWCNTs) composite with exceptionally enhanced ductility and toughness are prepared. With only 0.2 wt % CNT loading, the elongation at break has increased from originally 138% to almost 500%, while toughness improved by as much as 386%, without compromising the stiffness and strength. Note that raw CNTs are directly dispersed in the matrix without any surface modification. In order to elucidate this novel enhancement of ductility of PVDF/MWCNTs composites, we carried out detailed analyses based on results from ultra‐small‐angle X‐ray scattering (USAXS), cryo‐fractured surface morphology, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). It is proposed that the enhanced ductility are contributed by a synergistic combination of “void pinning effect” of CNT, as well as the formation of γ phase polymorph as the interphase in the PVDF/CNTs composites. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
