A parameter study of stripline-fed Vivaldi notch-antenna arrays   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
A parameter study of Vivaldi notch-antenna arrays demonstrates that the wide-band performance of these antennas can be improved systematically. Stripline-fed Vivaldi antennas are comprised of: (1) a stripline-to-slotline transition; (2) a stripline stub and a slotline cavity; and (3) a tapered slot. The impedances of the slotline cavity and the tapered slot radiator combine at the transition to yield an equivalent series impedance on the feedline. The stripline stub can be represented by a series reactance. The resistance and reactance of the antenna impedance yield insights into the effects of various design parameters. In particular, it is found that the minimum operating frequency can be lowered primarily by increasing the antenna resistance through a change of design parameters. However, beyond a limit for each design parameter, the in-band performance begins to deteriorate. Plots of antenna impedance versus frequency for several parameter variations have been obtained by using a full wave method of moments analysis of infinite arrays. These plots provide a means for designers to systematically improve array performance with bandwidths in excess of 6:1 having been achieved  相似文献

A method to eliminate bandwidth-limiting impedance anomalies or resonances in stripline-fed single- and dual-polarized tapered slot phased arrays is presented. For dual-polarized arrays, others have shown that the resonance with the lowest frequency is related to a cavity constituted by the dielectric region of the tapered slot element. Simulations have been performed to test if this cavity model also predicts the remaining resonances. It was found that the cavity model predicts some but not all of the resonances. However, it was found that all resonances in both single- and dual-polarized arrays have some dependence on the dielectric region. The resonances are effectively suppressed by introducing plated through vias in the element. The vias are positioned along the edges of the slotline, slotline cavity, stripline, and stripline stub. A Green's function moment-method analysis of infinite arrays of endfire slot antennas is described that includes the constant width slot antenna (CWSA) and the linearly tapered slot antenna (LTSA), with a ground plane. The method utilizes an application of equivalence at a plane in front of the array which facilitates the extension of this analysis to antennas printed on protruding dielectric sheets and/or the addition of a radome. Numerical calculations are compared with waveguide simulator experiments for CWSA and LTSA arrays as well as several less complex problem. The paper presents an analysis of slot-coupled stripline-fed patch antennas with vias around the slot to minimize the power launched into the parallel-plate mode. A moment-method scattering formulation is invoked to include the effect of vias on the impedance characteristics of the antenna. Coupling between the stripline feed and the ground-plane slot is obtained by invoking reciprocity. Two design examples were fabricated and the measured input impedances verify the accuracy of the analysis. Vias considerably modify the impedance and resonant characteristics of a patch antenna. The radiation efficiency of patch antennas with and without vias is studied and proper location of the vias is shown to drastically reduce power in the parallel-plate mode  相似文献

The results of a parametric study and design of an ultrawideband dual-polarized array of differentially-fed tapered slot antenna elements are presented. We examine arrays of bunny-ear antennas and discuss the capabilities and limitations of differential antenna technology. As we focus on radio astronomical applications, the absence of a balancing-feed circuit not only reduces the first-stage noise contribution associated to losses in the feed, but also leads to a cost reduction. Common-modes are supported by the antenna structure when a third conductor is present, such as a ground plane. We demonstrate that anomalies may occur in the differential-mode scan impedance. Knowledge of both types of scan impedances, differential and common mode, is required to properly design differential LNAs and to achieve optimal receiver sensitivity. A compromise solution is proposed based on the partial suppression of the undesired common-mode currents through a (low loss) balancing-dissipation technique. A fully steerable design up to 45$^{circ}$ in both principal planes is achieved.   相似文献

A full-wave analysis method is presented for modeling the radiation properties of a stripline-fed planar printed-aperture antenna element. In this formulation, both the finite length of stripline and the finite aperture may be of any arbitrary shape since their equivalent electric and magnetic currents are modeled with triangular patch basis functions. Galerkin's method is applied to numerically solve the coupled mixed-potential integral equation (MPIE). Exact spatial-domain Green's functions are used to account for all radiation, surface-wave, and mutual-coupling effects. Interactions between the stripline feed and the radiating aperture are rigorously included. Numerical analysis is presented for the following nonrectangular shapes: an exponentially tapered slot, an annular slot, an annular slot with opposing stubs, and a monofilar Archimedean spiral slot element. Results are shown for input return loss, radiation patterns, and axial ratio for the circularly polarized elements  相似文献

A completely analytic design process has been developed for small slot arrays which accounts for the varying effect of mutual coupling as a function of element position. A previously developed theory for the design of small arrays has been extended to include conformal dielectric-filled waveguide slot arrays. Computer software has been assembled which enables calculation of the slot geometries required to implement a specified aperture distribution and input impedance condition. The slot self- and mutual admittances are calculated numerically, thus eliminating the traditional measured slot data from the design process. This design technique has been applied to conformalX-band slot arrays on cylinders of a few wavelengths diameter. The arrays consist of multiple dielectric-filled waveguides, each of which is a narrow-band standing-wave linear array of longitudinal shunt slots. The computerized design process adjusts the length and offset of each slot in the total array until the desired aperture distribution and impedance match are achieved. A flow diagram of the design program and test results from experimental arrays are presented.  相似文献

本文用时域有限差分(FDTD)法分析缝隙渐变天线,分析中对天线缝隙边缘场和薄天线衬底采取了特殊的处理方法,求天线的远区辐射场采用了FDTD中近场到远场的变换方法。本文计算出的缝隙渐变天线的辐射方向图和远区辐射场与实验结果比较一致。本文给出了超短电磁脉冲在天线上传播和辐射过程的瞬态直观图象,同时还研究了这种天线衬底厚度、几何尺寸及介电常数对其辐射特性及频带的影响。  相似文献

设计了两种小型宽缝结构超宽带天线,一种采用接地CPW馈电方式,另一种采用带状线馈电方式。结果表明这两种天线都有较宽的阻抗带宽。分析了两种天线的特性参数,并比较两种天线的增益和辐射特性,给出两种天线在远区场的脉冲波形比较,并得出不同天线结构对脉冲波形的保真度的影响,这对实际超宽带脉冲天线的设计与应用意义重大。  相似文献

A class of antennas that utilizes arrays of elementary antennas as reflecting surfaces has been investigated. An antenna of this type is here called a Reflectarray. It has been found that the Reflectarray combines much of the simplicity of the reflector-type antenna with the performance versatility of the array type. The reflecting surfaces employed in these antennas are characterized by a surface impedance that can be synthesized to produce a variety of radiation patterns. The equations of the surface impedance as a function of the desired reflected phase front is derived for the lossless case and methods of realizing this surface impedance are presented. Experimental results of a waveguide array type Reflectarray are given including pencil beam, broad beam and scanning modes. Data on the effects of specific phase errors are presented.  相似文献

A method of increasing the bandwidth of low-profile cavity-hacked slot and microstrip patch antennas without appreciably adding to the antenna dimensions is presented. This idea incorporates the stacking of structures which have close resonant frequencies. Energy is coupled between cavities via carefully placed slots in the common wall. An approximate two-and-a-half fold increase in input impedance bandwidth has been observed for a certain cavity-backed slot antenna.  相似文献

Phasing stubs are employed to achieve a cophase current distribution in microstrip rectangular patch arrays. This technique, originally proposed for resonant long wire antennas by Franklin, avoids spurious radiation from half-wavelength connecting transmission lines as used in conventional patch antenna arrays. A slot-radiator model is derived to describe the basic radiation mechanism of the resultant new type of antenna and experimental results for the slot radiation resistance are given. The design of a 13-element resonant array for 12 GHz is presented together with measured radiation patterns.  相似文献

Coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed slot antennas are attractive due to fabrication simplicity and ease of integration with active devices. A new concept for exciting slots with a CPW line based on inductive coupling is presented. It is described how this coupling structure can be designed to tune the impedance of the antenna over a wide range. Single elements and arrays designed for 5- and 25-GHz operation are described. A method for calculating the radiation pattern of end-fire tapered slot antennas with or without dielectric substrate is presented. The method involves a two-step procedure: 1) determine the field distribution of a traveling wave along the tapered slot, and 2) compute the radiation from this slot field by using the half-plane Green's function to account for termination effects. Acceptable estimates of the slot field usually can be obtained from a stepped approximation to the tapered geometry. The method has been verified by comparisons to measured patterns for various dielectric substrates and antenna dimensions. However, the effect of lateral truncation has not yet been successfully modeled. Experimental patterns showing this effect are presented.  相似文献

Tapered slot antennas (TSAs) with a number of potential applications as single elements and focal plane arrays are discussed. TSAs are fabricated with photolithographic techniques and integrated in either hybrid or MMIC circuits with receiver or transmitter components. They offer considerably narrower beams than other integrated antenna elements and have high aperture efficiency and packing density as array elements. Both the circuit and radiation properties of TSAs are reviewed. Topics covered include: antenna beamwidth, directivity, and gain of single-element TSAs; their beam shape and the effect of different taper shapes; and the input impedance and the effects of using thick dielectrics. These characteristics are also given for TSA arrays as are the circuit properties of the array elements. Different array structures and their applications are also described  相似文献
