2008年底,正当全球经济处在一片萧条之时,在3G业务成熟的日本,一家名为Gree的社交网站却在东京证券交易所创业板成功上市,成为了日本移动互联网上又一颗瞩目的明星。据悉,Gree首日开盘价超过发行价52％,市值突破1000亿日元,超过日本人气社交网站Mixi而跃居该创业板市场首位。

国际影相器材贸易博览会是世界摄影器材的年度盛会,参展厂商覆盖全球摄影器材行业主要生产及研发厂商。在PMA上所展示的产品或技术等往往被视作决定本年度摄影摄像器材走向的风向标。今年PMA2008展会于1月31日到2月2日在美国拉斯维加斯举行。在为期3天的展会上,有很多产品或展出内容是值得从业人士和爱好者们关注的。     

Testing a MODIS Global Disturbance Index across North America

Large-scale ecosystem disturbances (LSEDs) have major impacts on the global carbon cycle as large pulses of CO₂ and other trace gases from terrestrial biomass loss are emitted to the atmosphere during disturbance events. The high temporal and spatial variability of the atmospheric emissions combined with the lack of a proven methodology to monitor LSEDs at the global scale make the timing, location and extent of vegetation disturbance a significant uncertainty in understanding the global carbon cycle. The MODIS Global Disturbance Index (MGDI) algorithm is designed for large-scale, regular, disturbance mapping using Aqua/Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Aqua/MODIS Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) data. The MGDI uses annual maximum composite LST data to detect fundamental changes in land-surface energy partitioning, while avoiding the high natural variability associated with tracking LST at daily, weekly, or seasonal time frames. Here we apply the full Aqua/MODIS dataset through 2006 to the improved MGDI algorithm across the woody ecosystems of North America and test the algorithm by comparison with confirmed, historical wildfire events and the windfall areas of documented major hurricanes. The MGDI accurately detects the location and extent of wildfire throughout North America and detects high and moderate severity impacts in the windfall area of major hurricanes. We also find detections associated with clear-cut logging and land-clearing on the forest-agricultural interface. The MGDI indicates that 1.5% (195,580 km²) of the woody ecosystems within North America was disturbed in 2005 and 0.5% (67,451 km²) was disturbed in 2006. The interannual variability is supported by wildfire detections and official burned area statistics.     

A regional techno-economic energy supply-distribution-demand model for North America

This paper describes an oil, gas, and “other” supply distribution model including sample results. The model was iniated before the energy crisis, and was initially concerned only with oil and gas. It was, however, designed as an open ended model, with provision for the addition of other energy supplies. The incorporation of these is in process, and the paper distinguishes between the existing and developing capabilities of the model.
