Contamination of potable groundwater with arsenic is a serious health hazard, which calls for proper treatment before its use as drinking water. The objective of the present study is to assess the effectiveness of iron oxide coated cement (IOCC) for As(III) adsorption from aqueous solution. Batch studies were conducted to study As(III) adsorption onto IOCC at ambient temperature as a function of adsorbent dose, pH, contact time, initial arsenic concentration and temperature. Kinetics reveal that the uptake of As(III) ion is very rapid and most of fixation occurs within the first 20 min of contact. The pseudo-second order rate equation successfully described the adsorption kinetics. Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson (R-P), and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) models were used to describe the adsorption isotherms at different initial As(III) concentrations and at 30 g l(-1) fixed adsorbent dose. The maximum adsorption capacity of IOCC for As(III) determined from the Langmuir isotherm was 0.69 mg g(-1). The mean free energy of adsorption (E) calculated from the D-R isotherm was found to be 2.86 kJ mol(-1) which suggests physisorption. Thermodynamic parameters indicate an exothermic nature of adsorption and a spontaneous and favourable process. The results suggest that IOCC can be suitably used for As(III) removal from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

The removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution by magnetic nanoparticles prepared and impregnated onto tea waste (Fe(3)O(4)-TW) from agriculture biomass was investigated. Magnetic nanoparticles (Fe(3)O(4)) were prepared by chemical precipitation of a Fe(2+) and Fe(3+) salts from aqueous solution by ammonia solution. These magnetic nanoparticles of the adsorbent Fe(3)O(4) were characterized by surface area (BET), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The effects of various parameters, such as contact time, pH, concentration, adsorbent dosage and temperature were studied. The kinetics followed is first order in nature, and the value of rate constant was found to be 1.90×10(-2) min(-1) at 100 mg L(-1) and 303 K. Removal efficiency decreases from 99 to 87% by increasing the concentration of Ni(II) in solution from 50 to 100 mg L(-1). It was found that the adsorption of Ni(II) increases by increasing temperature from 303 to 323 K and the process is endothermic in nature. The adsorption isotherm data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich equation, and the Langmuir adsorption capacity, Q°, was found to be (38.3)mgg(-1). The results also revealed that nanoparticle impregnated onto tea waste from agriculture biomass, can be an attractive option for metal removal from industrial effluent.  相似文献

Batch sorption experiments were carried out using a novel adsorbent, guava leaf powder (GLP), for the removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solutions. Potential of GLP for adsorption of MB from aqueous solution was found to be excellent. Effects of process parameters pH, adsorbent dosage, concentration, particle size and temperature were studied. Temperature-concentration interaction effect on dye uptake was studied and a quadratic model was proposed to predict dye uptake in terms of concentration, time and temperature. The model conforms closely to the experimental data. The model was used to find optimum temperature and concentration that result in maximum dye uptake. Langmuir model represent the experimental data well. Maximum dye uptake was found to be 295mg/g, indicating that GLP can be used as an excellent low-cost adsorbent. Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion models were tested. From experimental data it was found that adsorption of MB onto GLP follow pseudo second order kinetics. External diffusion and intraparticle diffusion play roles in adsorption process. Free energy of adsorption (DeltaG degrees ), enthalpy change (DeltaH degrees ) and entropy change (DeltaS degrees ) were calculated to predict the nature of adsorption. Adsorption in packed bed was also evaluated.  相似文献

In this work, adsorption of Cu(II) ions on sawdust (SD) and activated sawdust (ASD) has been studied by using batch adsorption techniques. The equilibrium adsorption level was determined to be a function of the pH, initial Cu(II) concentration, and adsorbent dosage. The equilibrium nature of Cu(II) adsorption has been described by the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. The experimental adsorption data were fitted to the Langmuir adsorption model both sawdust and activated sawdust. The equilibrium capacity of sawdust and activated sawdust were 5.432 and 13.495 mg copper per g adsorbent, respectively at room temperature and natural pH. The maximum adsorption capacity was obtained at the maximum zeta potential value that -74.5 mV (pH 5) for activated sawdust and at -48.4 mV (pH 4) for sawdust. It was observed that activated sawdust was a suitable adsorbent than sawdust for removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Chromium (VI) adsorption on boehmite   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Boehmite was synthesized and characterized in order to study the adsorption behavior and the removal of Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions as a function of contact time, initial pH solution, amount of adsorbent and initial metal ion concentration, using batch technique. Adsorption data of Cr(VI) on the boehmite were analyzed according to Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) adsorption models. Thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption system were determinated at 293, 303, 313 and 323K temperatures. The kinetic values and thermodynamic parameters from the adsorption process show that the Cr(VI) ions adsorption on boehmite is an endothermic and spontaneous process. These results show that the boehmite could be considered as a potential adsorbent for chromium ions in aqueous solutions.  相似文献

This paper deals with an investigation on coir-based adsorbent, puresorbe, in the removal of chromium(VI) from the aqueous solutions. The adsorption of chromium(VI) was carried out by varying the parameters such as agitation time, metal concentration, adsorbent dose, temperature and pH. The experimental isotherm data were analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich and Redlich and Peterson isotherms. Adsorption followed second order rate expression for the particle size 250–500 μm at pH 2. The monolayer adsorption capacity is 76.92 mg chromium(VI) per gram of puresorbe. Thermodynamic parameters show the endothermic nature of chromium(VI) adsorption. Desorption study carried out using distilled water adjusted to pH of 2–10, suggests that chemisorption might be the mode of adsorption.  相似文献

Various adsorbents are available for the removal of heavy and toxic metals, silica-based materials have been the most popular. Recently, there has been considerable interest for the modification of organic moieties and mesostructured materials to enable their use as efficient adsorbent for metal removal. In this study, here we are reporting successful incorporation of tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin (TCPP) in mesoporous silica by the post-synthetic method. TCPP-SBA-15 has been found to be an effective material for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solution due to the chelating nature of the porphyrin-bridging group. A comparative study on adsorption of copper(II) ion over NH(2)-SBA-15 silica and TCPP-SBA-15 was performed. The results show that TCPP-SBA-15 material has higher adsorption capacity than NH(2)-SBA-15 silica and it reaches the adsorption maxima around 13 mmol g(-1).  相似文献

A novel adsorbent, magnetic nanoparticle (γ-Fe2O3)-coated zeolite (MNCZ), was prepared for the removal of arsenic (As) ions from aqueous solution. The influence of different sorption parameters, that is, contact time, acidic reaction (pH) and initial arsenic concentration were studied using batch equilibrium techniques. The results obtained showed that the MNCZ was effective for the removal of As from aqueous solution, and the percentage removal of As could reach over 95.6% at a pH value of 2.5 within 15?min. Moreover, the removal of As depended on the initial concentration of As. For the regeneration of MNCZ material, 0.1?M NaOH was suitable for the desorption of As (70% after 15?min), and the regenerated material showed an adsorption capacity of 93.95% within five cycles. We concluded that MNCZ presents a reusable adsorbent for a fast, convenient and highly efficient removal of As from aqueous solution.  相似文献

The adsorption of cobalt, chromium and nickel from aqueous solutions on IRN77 cation-exchange resin has been studied comparatively. The percentage removal of cobalt, chromium and nickel was examined by varying experimental conditions, viz. dosage of adsorbent, pH of the solution and contact time. It was found that more than 95% removal was achieved under optimal conditions. The adsorption capacity (k) for cobalt, chromium and nickel were calculated from the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The adsorption of cobalt, chromium and nickel on this cation-exchange resin followed the Lagergren kinetic model. Also the competitive adsorption of multi-metals onto the IRN77 resin was studied. The studies showed that this cation-exchange resin can be used as an efficient adsorbent material for the removal of cobalt, chromium and nickel from water and nuclear power plant coolant water.  相似文献

Grape waste as a biosorbent for removing Cr(VI) from aqueous solution   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Grape waste generated in wine production is a cellulosic material rich in polyphenolic compounds which exhibits a high affinity for heavy metal ions. An adsorption gel was prepared from grape waste by cross-linking with concentrated sulfuric acid. It was characterized and utilized for the removal of Cr(VI) from synthetic aqueous solution. Adsorption tests were conducted in batch mode to study the effects of pH, contact time and adsorption isotherm of Cr(VI), which followed the Langmuir type adsorption and exhibited a maximum loading capacity of 1.91 mol/kg at pH 4. The adsorption of different metal ions like Cr(VI), Cr(III), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solution at different pH values 1-5 has also been investigated. The cross-linked grape waste gel was found to selectively adsorb Cr(VI) over other metal ions tested. The results suggest that cross-linked grape waste gel has high possibility to be used as effective adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal.  相似文献

A novel magnetic Cu(II) ion imprinted composite adsorbent (Cu(II)-MICA) was synthesized, characterized and applied for the selective removal Cu(II) from aqueous solution in the batch system. The adsorption-desorption and selectivity characteristics were investigated. The maximum adsorption occurred at pH 5-6. The equilibrium time was 6.0h, and a pseudo-second-order model could best describe adsorption kinetics. The adsorption equilibrium data fit Langmuir isotherm equation well with a maximum adsorption capacity of 46.25mg/g and Langmuir adsorption equilibrium constant of 0.0956L/mg at 298K. Thermodynamic parameters analysis predicted an exothermic nature of adsorption and a spontaneous and favourable process that could be mainly governed by physisorption mechanism. The relative selectivity coefficients of Cu(II)-MICA for Cu(II)/Zn(II) and Cu(II)/Ni(II) were 2.31, 2.66 times greater than the magnetic non-imprinted composite adsorbent (MNICA). Results suggested that Cu(II)-MICA was a material of efficient, low-cost, convenient separation under magnetic field and could be reused five times with about 14% regeneration loss.  相似文献

A Cd(II)-imprinted chitosan resin (Cd-ICR) was prepared for adsorption of Cd(II) from aqueous solutions. Batch adsorption experiments were performed to evaluate the adsorption conditions, selectivity and reusability as well as its application in the removal of Cd(II) from oyster hydrolysate. The results indicated that the maximum adsorption capacity of Cd-ICR was 0.795 mmol/g in sole Cd(II) solution at pH 5.0, 45 °C with equilibrium time 10 h. The selectivity coefficient of Cd(II) and other metal cations on Cd-ICR indicated an overall preference for Cd(II), which was much higher than that of non-imprinted chitosan resin. Cd-ICR could be reused for ten times with about 27% regeneration loss. FTIR spectra demonstrated that Cd(II) in Cd-ICR occurred on amino and secondary hydroxyl groups. The removal ratio of Cd(II) from oyster hydrolysate was 73.6%, while that of Ca(II) and Zn(II) were 6.2 and 9.9%, respectively. This suggests that Cd-ICR is a very promising adsorbent for selective removal of Cd(II) from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

In this study, chitosan functionalised magnetic nano‐particles (CMNP) was synthesised and utilised as an effective adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution. The experimental studies reveal that adsorbent material has finer adsorption capacity for the removal of heavy metal ions. Parameters affecting the adsorption of Pb(II) ions on CMNP, such as initial Pb(II) ion concentration, contact time, solution pH, adsorbent dosage and temperature were studied. The adsorption equilibrium study showed that present adsorption system followed a Freundlich isotherm model. The experimental kinetic studies on the adsorption of Pb(II) ions exhibited that present adsorption process best obeyed with pseudo‐first order kinetics. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of CMNP for the removal of Pb(II) ions was found to be 498.6 mg g−1. The characterisation of present adsorbent material was done by FTIR, energy disperse X‐ray analysis and vibrating sample magnetometer studies. Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy (ΔG °), enthalpy (ΔH °) and entropy (ΔS °) have declared that the adsorption process was feasible, exothermic and spontaneous in nature. Sticking probability reported that adsorption of Pb(II) ions on CMNP was favourable at lower temperature and sticking capacity of Pb(II) ions was very high.Inspec keywords: adsorption, lead, wastewater treatment, monolayers, Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray chemical analysis, magnetometers, pHOther keywords: poisonous Pb(II) ions surface adsorption, chitosan functionalised magnetic nanoparticle, CMNP, Pb(II) ions removal, aqueous solution, finer adsorption capacity, heavy metal ion removal, contact time, solution pH, adsorbent dosage, adsorption equilibrium, Freundlich isotherm model, pseudofirst order kinetics, monolayer adsorption capacity, FTIR, energy disperse X‐ray analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer study, thermodynamic parameter, sticking probability, Pb(II) ions sticking capacity, initial Pb(II) ion concentration  相似文献

This study proposed an oil palm by-product as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)] from aqueous solution. Adsorption of Cr (VI) by sulphuric acid and heat-treated oil palm fibre was conducted using batch tests. The influence of pH, contact time, initial chromium concentration and adsorbent dosage on the removal of Cr (VI) from the solutions was investigated. The optimum initial pH for maximum uptake of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution was found to be 1.5. The removal efficiency was found to correlate with the initial Cr (VI) concentration, adsorbent dosage as well as the contact time between Cr (VI) and the adsorbent. The adsorption kinetics tested with pseudo first order and pseudo second order models yielded high R(2) values from 0.9254 to 0.9870 and from 0.9936 to 0.9998, respectively. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed significant difference between the R(2) values of the two models at 99% confidence level. The Freundlich isotherm (R(2)=0.8778) described Cr (VI) adsorption slightly better than the Langmuir isotherm (R(2)=0.8715). Difficulty in desorption of Cr (VI) suggests the suitability of treated oil palm fibre as a single-use adsorbent for Cr (VI) removal from aqueous solution.  相似文献

This paper deals with the application of wheat shells (WS), an agricultural by-product, for the removal of direct blue 71 (DR) from aqueous solution. The characteristics of WS surface, such as surface area, Bohem titration and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were obtained. The removal of direct blue 71 onto WS from aqueous solution was investigated by using parameters, such as pH, temperature, adsorbent dose, contact time and initial concentration. The adsorption process attains equilibrium within 36 h. The extent of dye removal decreased with increasing adsorbent dosage and also increased with increasing contact time, temperature, in solution concentration. Optimum pH value for dye adsorption was determined between 6 and 8. The experimental data were analysed by the Langmuir and Freundlich models of adsorption. It was found that the Langmuir equation fit better than the Freundlich equation. Maximum adsorption capacity (Q(m)) was calculated as at different temperatures (293, 303 and 313 K) 40.82, 45.66 and 46.30 mgg(-1), respectively. In addition, the adsorption data obtained at different temperatures of DR by WS were applied to pseudo first-order, pseudo second-order and Weber-Morris equations, and the rate constants of first-order adsorption (k(1)), the rate constants of second-order adsorption (k(2)) and intraparticle diffusion rate constants (k(3)) at these temperatures were calculated, respectively. The rates of adsorption were found to conform to pseudo second-order kinetics with good correlation (R(2)>or=0.9904). Also, free energy of adsorption (DeltaG degrees), enthalpy (DeltaH degrees), and entropy (DeltaS degrees) changes were determined to predict the nature of adsorption. Furthermore, the results indicate that WS could be employed as a low-cost alternative to other adsorbents in the removal of direct blue 71 from aqueous solution.  相似文献

In the work, the beer brewery waste has been shown to be a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of basic dye from the aqueous solution as compared to its precursor (i.e., diatomite) based on its physical and chemical characterizations including surface area, pore volume, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and non-mineral elemental analyses. The pore properties of this waste were significantly larger than those of its raw material, reflecting that the trapped organic matrices contained in the waste probably provided additional adsorption sites and/or adsorption area. The results of preliminary adsorption kinetics showed that the diatomite waste could be directly used as a potential adsorbent for removal of methylene blue on the basis of its adsorption-biosorption mechanisms. The adsorption parameters thus obtained from the pseudo-second-order model were in accordance with their pore properties. From the results of adsorption isotherm at 298 K and the applicability examinations in treating industrial wastewater containing basic dye, it was further found that the adsorption capacities of diatomite waste were superior to those of diatomite, which were also in good agreement with their corresponding physical properties. From the results mentioned above, it is feasible to utilize the food-processing waste for removing dye from the industrial dying wastewater.  相似文献

The basic oxygen furnace waste generated in steel plant has been used as a low cost adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) from aqueous solution. The effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, contact time and temperature on adsorption process was studied in batch experiments. Results of the equilibrium experiments showed that the solution pH was the key factor affecting the adsorption characteristics. Optimum pH for the adsorption was found to be 5 with corresponding adsorbent dosage level of 5 g/L. The equilibrium was achieved within 1 h of contact time. Kinetics data were best described by pseudo second order model. The effective particle diffusion coefficient of Pb(II) is the order of 10−10 m2/s. The maximum uptake was 92.5 mg/g. The adsorption data can be well fitted by Freundlich isotherm. The result of the equilibrium studies showed that the solution pH was the key factor affecting the adsorption. External mass transfer analysis was also carried out for the adsorption process. The thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic. The sorption energy (10.1745 kJ/mol) calculated from Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm indicated that the adsorption process is chemical in nature. Desorption studies were carried out using dilute mineral acids to elucidate the mechanism of adsorption. Application studies were carried out considering the economic viewpoint of wastewater treatment plant operations.  相似文献

The sorption of lead(II) ions on rice husk ash   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Present study deals with the adsorption of Pb(II) from aqueous solution on rice husk ash. Rice husk is a by-product generally obtained from rice mill. Rice husk ash is a solid obtained after burning of rice husk. Batch studies were performed to evaluate the influences of various experimental parameters like pH, initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, contact time and the effect of temperature. Optimum conditions for Pb(II) removal were found to be pH 5, adsorbent dosage 5 g/L of solution and equilibrium time 1h. Adsorption of Pb(II) followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The effective diffusion coefficient is of the order of 10(-10)m(2)/s. The equilibrium adsorption isotherm was better described by Freuindlich adsorption isotherm model. The adsorption capacity (q(max)) of rice husk ash for Pb(II) ions in terms of monolayer adsorption was 91.74 mg/g. The change of entropy (DeltaS(0)) and enthalpy (Delta H(0)) were estimated at 0.132 kJ/(mol K) and 28.923 kJ/mol respectively. The negative value of Gibbs free energy (Delta G(0)) indicates feasible and spontaneous adsorption of Pb(II) on rice husk ash. The value of the adsorption energy (E), calculated using Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm, was 9.901 kJ/mol and it indicated that the adsorption process was chemical in nature. Application study was also carried out to find the suitability of the process in waste water treatment operation.  相似文献

The materials with adsorbent properties were produced from urban sewage sludge by two different procedures via microwave irradiation: (1) by one single pyrolysis stage (SC); (2) by chemical activation with ZnCl2 (SZ). The BET, SEM and FT-IR have been used to evaluate the pore structural parameters and surface chemistry of the adsorbents, respectively. Subsequently they were used for adsorption of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions. The effects of various experimental parameters, such as pH, temperature were investigated in a batch-adsorption technique. The results showed that the adsorption of Cu(II) was maximal at pH 5.0. The kinetic study demonstrated that the adsorption process was followed the second-order kinetic equation. The experimental adsorption isotherm data were well fitted with Langmuir model and the maximum adsorption capacity of Cu(II) were found to be 3.88 and 10.56 mg/g for SC and SZ, respectively, in the solution of pH 5.0. Thermodynamic parameters such as changes in the enthalpy (ΔH0), entropy (ΔS0) and free energy (ΔG0) indicate that Cu(II) adsorption onto SC and SZ is an endothermic and spontaneous process in nature at 15-45 °C. These results indicate that the sewage sludge-derived material via microwave induced ZnCl2 activation is an effective and alternative adsorbent for the removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Adsorption of Pb(II) and Cr(III) from aqueous solution on Celtek clay   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper presents the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cr(III) from aqueous solution on Celtek clay. Batch experiments were carried out as a function of the adsorbent dosage, solution pH, shaking time, and temperature. The equilibrium data of fitted well with the linear Langmuir and Freundlich models. Dubinin-Radushkevick (D-R) isotherm model was applied to describe the nature of the adsorption of the metals, and found that it occurred physically. Thermodynamic parameters, the change in Gibbs free energy change (DeltaG degrees), enthalpy (DeltaH degrees) and entropy (DeltaS degrees) were also calculated. These parameters indicated that the adsorption of Pb(II) and Cr(III) on Celtek clay was feasible, spontaneous and exothermic process in nature. Based on the results, it was concluded that Celtek clay had a significant potential for removing Pb(II) and Cr(III) from wastewater using adsorption method.  相似文献
