A pulsed dye laser system with a narrow-band signal injected into the cavity is considered. The injection starts prior to the excitation pulse. It is shown that during a transient period, injection locking can be achieved for a much wider range of parameters than under conventional CW conditions. The analysis is based on a set of coupled rate equations for the population densities and photon fluxes at all wavelengths. These are solved numerically with appropriate initial and boundary conditions. Analytical approximations, which are helpful for understanding the behavior of such systems, are presented. Both straight, two-mirror cavities, and ring laser cavities are discussed. The temporal evolution of the spectral components at all wavelengths is described. The range of tunability in this mode of operation and its dependence on various parameters, such as pulse length, cavity dimensions, and injection intensity are discussed.  相似文献

Transversely pumped dye-laser systems are investigated theoretically and experimentally. A set of coupled rate equations for the excited-state population densities and for the photon fluxes in both directions, at all wavelengths, is presented. Both the temporal and spatial dependence of these quantities are accounted for. The equations are solved numerically for a variety of practical situations, and analytical approximations for some limiting cases are discussed. The results describe the dependence of the amplified-spontaneous-emission (ASE) output flux on pumping rate, the spectral narrowing process, and the effects of gain saturation. It is found that under practical laboratory conditions the gain of such dye systems saturates rapidly. Consequently, at high pumping rates the output varies linearly with pump intensity, and the conversion efficiency from pump to ASE photons approaches unity. The performance of dyedaser amplifiers is described by the same set of equations, and the gain characteristics of such systems are analyzed as a function of input signal intensity and pumping rate. The theoretical calculations are compared with the results of a set of experiments, and good agreement is found. The operation characteristics of a dye-laser amplifier are evaluated and utilized in the design of a narrow-band oscillator-amplifier system.  相似文献

Dye-laser oscillators and amplifiers are studied theoretically with inclusion of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). Assuming pencil-like geometry in both cases, laser signal intensity and ASE intensity are described with appropriate photon-transport equations. In particular, there exist different boundary conditions fox both fluxes in the laser cavity case due to the different feedback behavior of an optical resonator for laser modes and ASE modes. The interaction of laser output and ASE intensity is discussed in detail, including laser output optimization without and with ASE effects. For single- and double-pass amplifiers closed-form solutions for gain saturation due to input signal and ASE flux axe also given. More complicated gain functions, such as inclusion of reabsorption in dye lasers, are also treated in some detail.  相似文献

推导了准稳态下横向抽运的脉冲染料激光放大器的简化速率方程,提出了双侧横向抽运方式的脉冲染料激光放大器的设计原则和设计方法.应用高功率脉冲染料激光放大器的物理设计结果,研制了输出功率为50 W的脉冲染料激光放大器的实验装置.采用铜蒸气激光(CVL)作为抽运光,在此染料激光放大器上进行了实验研究,获得染料激光输出功率为52 W,抽运激光功率提取效率为41%.给出了染料激光波长、注入染料激光功率以及抽运激光的时间和空间匹配特性与染料激光放大器输出激光功率和抽运激光功率提取效率的相互关系,讨论了染料溶液浓度对双侧横向抽运方式的脉冲染料激光放大器的输出光束质量的影响.  相似文献

Prolonging of decay time τ due self-absorption of fluorescence is estimated from the spectra for a cylinder of infinite length. The basis of the calculation is the "a" factor-the probability of self-absorption of an emitted photon, which is solved by a Monte-Carlo integration. For the experimental conditions used in a typical flashlamp-pumped dye oscillator, the molecular decay time of 3.5 ns is extended to 4.8 ns, and does not change as the oscillator is scaled in dimension. It is the prolonged τ that determines pump and signal saturation fluxes, lowering the fluxes, and such radiation trapping contributes significantly to making rhodamine 6G an effective laser dye.  相似文献

A pulsed singly resonant optical parametric oscillator (OPO) has been constructed which can provide tunable coherent radiation over the entire wavelength range extending from 354 nm in the near ultraviolet, throughout the visible, to 2.370 μm in the near infrared using a single β-BaB2O4 crystal. The oscillator is pumped at 308 nm by a pulsed narrow band injection-seeded XeCl excimer laser in a near-field pumping configuration, and energy conversion efficiencies (optical-to-optical) in excess of 10% have been obtained in a 12-nm-long crystal across the OPO tuning range. The requirements placed upon the spectral and spatial coherence of the pump laser for optimum OPO operation are discussed. Experimental results on several oscillator parameters, including tuning range, oscillation threshold, energy conversion efficiency, and spatial and temporal characteristics, are presented  相似文献

This paper proposes a new scheme of multistage injection locking controlled by a narrow-band CW dye laser to obtain spectral narrowing of a high-energy flashlamp-pumped dye laser (FLPL). The spectrum of FLPL with an output energy of 23 J was successfully narrowed to 0.7 GHz by this method. A narrow-band CW radiation was injected into the cavity of a small FLPL, then its locked output emission was injected into the cavity of the high-energy FLPL. With a CW injected power of 15 mW, about 70 percent of the output energy of the final laser was concentrated into the same spectral region as the injected CW radiation. The effective power gain obtained was as large as4 times 10^{8}. Using coupled rate equations based on a simplified model, the injection-locking phenomena were analyzed. This model makes it possible to derive the locking efficiency as a function of the injected power in an explicit form, and gives an insight for experiments. Some performances of injection-locked operation were studied experimentally.  相似文献

The laser performance and kinetic properties of the broadband CA transition of the XeF*-exciplex have been studied under discharge excitation. With a pulsed dye laser as the injection source, amplified output pulses with an energy of up to 4 mJ have been obtained in the wavelength range from 450 to 520 nm. The output of a picosecond cascade-pumped controlled transient oscillation (CTO) dye laser has been amplified to the millijoule level. Single-mode operation and frequency selection with a spectral width of 0.2 nm were achieved by using an angle-tuned narrow-band interference filter. A plasma shutter was employed as a pulse clean-up device for these high-power laser pulses. This device had a transmission of 86 percent and provided background-free operation for the laser system. Sychronizable output pulses with an energy of 2 mJ and a duration of 20 ps at 10 pps were routinely produced. The gain of the amplifier chain was about7.5 times 10^{4}.  相似文献

A two-stage dye amplifier design has been developed to amplify tunable, blue-green, subpicosecond dye laser pulses which are generated from a hybrid synchronously mode-locked dye oscillator directly (800 fs) or shorter to 200 fs by a fiber compressor stage. This system has achieved single pulse energies of 2 mJ, with an amplified spontaneous emission content of less than 0.1%. Using 40 mJ of the third-harmonic output of an Nd:YAG regenerative amplifier to pump the dye amplifier system, these pulse energies represent an energy extraction efficiency of ~5%. 为了研究Nd:YAG激光器1.444μm激光的脉冲输出,依据速率方程理论,建立了1.444μm Nd:YAG脉冲激光器的理论模型,分析了Nd:YAG晶体中其它受激发射截面较高的谱线不产生激光振荡的条件,并在脉冲抽运情况下模拟了1.444μm和1.064μm双波长激光输出。模拟结果表明,1.064μm激光一定范围内的微弱振荡对1.444μm激光输出没有显著影响。建立一维数值模型计算了放大自发辐射(ASE)对激光输出的影响,在晶体表面反射率为0的理想状况下,ASE对激光输出的影响小于2%,可以忽略。  相似文献

Efficient, ultra-narrow spectral output from an electron-beam excited XeF(C rightarrow A) laser medium has been achieved by injection-controlled tuning. Using a pulsed dye laser as the injection source, amplified output pulses tunable between 435 and 535 nm and having a spectral width of 0.001 nm were obtained. For a 482.5 nm injection wavelength that is well matched to the XeF(C rightarrow A) gain maximum, output energy density and intrinsic efficiency values of approximately 8 J/l and 6 percent were achieved.  相似文献

We report simultaneous quantitative spectral and temporal measurements of the output pulses from a single-axial mode rhodamine 6G short cavity (1-8 mum) dye laser. The dye laser was pumped at 10 Hz with single second harmonic (532 nm) pulses from a mode-locked Nd+3:YAG laser. Spectral measurements made with a high resolution spectrograph and temporal measurements made with an ultrafast streak camera indicate the production of Fourier transform limited pulses for near threshold operation. Output pulses of 7-14 ps (FWHM) are observed from the short cavity dye laser when pumped with 15-30 ps duration 532 nm pulses. The output pulse delay and jitter are also investigated. A theoretical model for the temporal evolution of the pulses is presented and compared with the experimental results.  相似文献
