Like that of many art students, my initial training seemed dominated by linear drawing, so that painting too often became a matter of outlining shapes and then coloring them in. It was not until I more closely studied the work of Cézanne. Seurat, Robert Delaunay, and other great colorists, that I gained more insight into how color might be used independently of drawing, of how color could create its own form and ultimately become a subject of artistic experiment in its own right. This article examines one artist's thoughts on the relationship between drawing and color, set within a wider, art-historical context.  相似文献

The cold drawing of synthetic polymers is generally carried out through necking at a short collar between the drawn part and the undrawn part of the fiber; if the drawing is carried out in certain organic liquids, the lengthening is realized through thousands of simultaneous necks which permit the fiber to be penetrated by a dye dissolved in the liquid. The stress–strain curves for the drawing in liquid show an important decrease in the force at the time the multiple necking are produced. This decrease is the result of an increase in the mobility of the macromolecular chains through the penetration of the organic liquid to the level of the shoulder of the necks. A morphological study has been carried out through the observation of cuts by optical microscopy, along with a utilization of the techniques of x-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and electron microscopy. It was found that the liquid penetrates t?he fiber to the level of the necking via a rupture of the interchain bonds which takes place during the change of structural following the drawing. The bonds are maintained ruptured as long as the liquid is not squeezed out by the aligning of the chains; they reform later to produce a new highly crystalline structure.  相似文献

High oriented isotactic polypropylene prepared by self‐designed two‐stage die drawing apparatus was explored through kinds of methods, including differential scanning calorimetry, two‐dimensional wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction, polarized light microscope, and tensile test. The results showed that there was a great difference between the orientation mechanism and structure evolution of two‐stage solid die drawing process and single‐stage solid die drawing process. All samples would undergo free drawing process after die drawing process. Die drawing and free drawing process were of equal importance to single‐stage die drawing process while die drawing process showed an prominent contribution to the two‐stage die drawing process. Drawing speed showed beneficial influence on die drawing process for both single‐ and two‐stage die drawing process routes. Under the same processing condition, tensile strength and modulus of samples prepared by two‐stage die drawing process were higher than those prepared by single‐stage die drawing process and the maximum value could reach 241.93 MPa and 3.57 GPa, respectively. Moreover, two‐stage die drawing samples showed better dimensional stability than single‐stage die drawing samples especially under low draw rate. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. During the 33 years I have spent in industrial fats and oils research and development I have been fortunate to have both R&D managers who let me stay in the laboratory and do my own research, and capable assistants who worked with me in the laboratory. Of course, much of my work could never have been done without them, so this award is theirs, too. My laboratory assistant in Taiwan, Dorothy Chu, wrote me, “You are my boss, so it is my honor, too.” This is not just my award; you are also honoring those who worked with me during the past. (Robert R. Allen former AOCS president and winner of the 1983 Bailey Award, was the recipient of the 1986 Supelco AOCS Research Award presented in May at the 1986 AOCS annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii. Die drawing, a new process for the production of oriented thermoplastic rods with an ultrahigh modulus of elasticity, involves drawing an isotropic workpiece through a converging die at temperatures below the polymer melting point. Die drawing of polypropylene is described, but the process is applicable to any polymer which can be drawn by conventional means. The considerable advantages of die drawing compared with conventional tensile drawing and hydrostatic or ram extrusion are discussed.  相似文献

Deformation of the metal substrate in the deep drawing process was characterized by macroscopic appearance and strain distribution. The results of the analysis were correlated with the modes of coating failure. The characteristic ears and valleys at the top of the cup and buckling of the metal in the valley regions resulted from instabilities raised during the cupping process. Earing was a plastic instability that originated from the combined factors of the crystallographic unit cell and the anisotropy of the rolled metal substrate. Buckling was an elastic instability that occurred when the valleys lost constraint before the ears. Stopping the forming process at intermediate positions before the cup was completely formed revealed four stages in the cupping process. Stage I was the initial indentation with formation of six ears. Stage II was conversion from 6 ears to 4 ears separated by alternating deep and shallow valleys. Stage III, loss of constraint in the deep valleys, led to buckling. Stage IV was total loss of constraint. Relationships between the deep drawing process as described by the 4 stages and coating failure were explored with two coating formulations: one that did not fail during deep drawing and one that failed. Two failure modes were observed on the deep drawn cup. Mode I, coating delamination at the top of the cup, was related to the bucking instability. Mode II, loss of adhesion along the cup wall, was caused by elastic retraction of the unconstrained cup in stage IV.  相似文献
