This study focuses on enhancing CO2 uptake by modifying limestone with acetate solutions under pressurized carbonation condition. The multicycle tests were carried out in an atmospheric calcination/pressurized carbonation reactor system at different temperatures and pressures. The pore structure characteristics (BET and BJH) were measured as a supplement to the reaction studies. Compared with the raw limestone, the modified sorbent showed a great improvement in CO2 uptake at the same reaction condition. The highest CO2 uptake was obtained at 700 °C and 0.5 MPa, by 88.5% increase over the limestone at 0.1 MPa after 10 cycles. The structure characteristics of the sorbents on N2 absorption and SEM confirm that compared with the modified sorbent, the effective pores of limestone are greatly driven off by sintering, which hinders the easy access of CO2 molecules to the unreacted-active sites of CaO. The morphological and structural properties of the modified sorbent did not reveal significant differences after multiple cycles. This would explain its superior performance of CO2 uptake under pressurized carbonation. Even after 10 cycles, the modified sorbent still achieved a CO2 uptake of 0.88.  相似文献

The water gas shift reaction was evaluated in the presence of novel carbon dioxide (CO2) capture sorbents, both alone and with catalyst, at moderate reaction conditions (i.e., 300-600 °C and 1-11.2 atm). Experimental results showed significant improvements to carbon monoxide (CO) conversions and production of hydrogen (H2) when CO2 sorbents are incorporated into the water gas shift reaction. Results suggested that the performance of the sorbent is linked to the presence of a Ca(OH)2 phase within the sorbent. Promoting calcium oxide (CaO) sorbents with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as well as pre-treating the CaO sorbent with steam appeared to lead to formation of Ca(OH)2, which improved CO2 sorption capacity and WGS performance. Results suggest that an optimum amount of NaOH exists as too much leads to a lower capture capacity of the resultant sorbent. During capture, the NaOH-promoted sorbents displayed a high capture efficiency (nearly 100%) at temperatures of 300-600 °C. Results also suggest that the CaO sorbents possess catalytic properties which may augment the WGS reactivity even post-breakthrough. Furthermore, promotion of CaO by NaOH significantly reduces the regeneration temperature of the former.  相似文献

The calcination/carbonation loop of calcium-based (Ca-based) sorbents is considered as a viable technique for CO2 capture from combustion gases. Recent attempts to improve the CO2 uptake of Ca-based sorbents by adding calcium lignosulfonate (CLS) with hydration have succeeded in enhancing its effectiveness. The optimum mass ratio of CLS/CaO is 0.5 wt.%. The reduction in particle size and grain size of CaO appeared to be parts of the reasons for increase in CO2 capture. The primary cause of increase in reactivity of the modified sorbents was the ability of the CLS to retard the sintering rate and thus to remain surface area and pore volume for reaction. The CO2 uptake of the modified sorbents was also enhanced by elevating the carbonation pressure. Experimental results indicate that the optimal reaction condition of the modified sorbents is at 0.5 MPa and 700 °C and a high conversion of 0.7 is achieved after 10 cycles, by 30% higher than that of original limestone, at the same condition.  相似文献

One promising method for the capture of CO2 from point sources is through the usage of a lime-based sorbent. Lime (CaO) acts as a CO2 carrier, absorbing CO2 from the flue gas (carbonation) and releasing it in a separate reactor (calcination) to create a pure stream of CO2 suitable for sequestration. One of the challenges with this process is the decay in calcium utilization (CO2 capture capacity) during carbonation/calcination cycling. The reduction in calcium utilization of natural limestone over large numbers of cycles (>250) was studied. Cycling was accomplished using pressure swing CO2 adsorption in a pressurized thermogravimetric reactor (PTGA). The effect of carbonation pressure on calcium utilization was studied in CO2 with the reactor operated at 1000 °C. The pressure was cycled between atmospheric pressure for calcination, and 6, 11 or 21 bar for carbonation. Over the first 250 cycles, the calcium utilization reached a near-asymptotic value of 12.5-27.7%, depending on the cycling conditions. Pressure cycling resulted in improved long-term calcium utilization compared to temperature swing or CO2 partial pressure swing adsorption under similar conditions. An increased rate of de-pressurization caused an increase in calcium utilization, attributed to fracturing of the sorbent particle during the rapid calcination, as observed via SEM analysis.  相似文献

Carbonation of fly ash in oxy-fuel CFB combustion   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Chunbo Wang  Yewen Tan 《Fuel》2008,87(7):1108-1114
Oxy-fuel combustion of fossil fuel is one of the most promising methods to produce a stream of concentrated CO2 ready for sequestration. Oxy-fuel FBC (fluidized bed combustion) can use limestone as a sorbent for in situ capture of sulphur dioxide. Limestone will not calcine to CaO under typical oxy-fuel circulating FBC (CFBC) operating temperatures because of the high CO2 partial pressures. However, for some fuels, such as anthracites and petroleum cokes, the typical combustion temperature is above 900 °C. At CO2 concentrations of 80-85% (typical of oxy-fuel CFBC conditions with flue gas recycle) limestone still calcines, but when the ash cools to the calcination temperature, carbonation of fly ash deposited on cool surfaces may occur. This phenomenon has the potential to cause fouling of the heat transfer surfaces in the back end of the boiler, and to create serious operational difficulties. In this study, fly ash generated in a utility CFBC boiler was carbonated in a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) under conditions expected in an oxy-fuel CFBC. The temperature range investigated was from 250 to 800 °C with CO2 concentration set at 80% and H2O concentrations at 0%, 8% and 15%, and the rate and the extent of the carbonation reaction were determined. Both temperature and H2O concentrations played important roles in determining the reaction rate and extent of carbonation. The results also showed that, in different temperature ranges, the carbonation of fly ash displayed different characteristics: in the range 400 °C < T ? 800 °C, the higher the temperature the higher the CaO-to-carbonate conversion ratio. The presence of H2O in the gas phase always resulted in higher CaO conversion ratio than that obtainable without H2O. For T ? 400 °C, no fly ash carbonation occurred without the presence of H2O in the gas phase. However, on water vapour addition, carbonation was observed, even at 250 °C. For T ? 300 °C, small amounts of Ca(OH)2 were found in the final product alongside CaCO3. Here, the carbonation mechanism is discussed and the apparent activation energy for the overall reaction determined.  相似文献

Rice husk ash/CaO was proposed as a CO2 sorbent which was prepared by rice husk ash and CaO hydration together. The CO2 capture behavior of rice husk ash/CaO sorbent was investigated in a twin fixed bed reactor system, and its apparent morphology, pore structure characteristics and phase variation during cyclic carbonation/calcination reactions were examined by SEM-EDX, N2 adsorption and XRD, respectively. The optimum preparation conditions for rice husk ash/CaO sorbent are hydration temperature of 75 °C, hydration time of 8 h, and mole ratio of SiO2 in rice husk ash to CaO of 1.0. The cyclic carbonation performances of rice husk ash/CaO at these preparation conditions were compared with those of hydrated CaO and original CaO. The temperature at 660 °C–710 °C is beneficial to CO2 absorption of rice husk ash/CaO, and it exhibits higher carbonation conversions than hydrated CaO and original CaO during multiple cycles at the same reaction conditions. Rice husk ash/CaO possesses better anti-sintering behavior than the other sorbents. Rice husk ash exhibits better effect on improving cyclic carbonation conversion of CaO than pure SiO2 and diatomite. Rice husk ash/CaO maintains higher surface area and more abundant pores after calcination during the multiple cycles; however, the other sorbents show a sharp decay at the same reaction conditions. Ca2SiO4 found by XRD detection after calcination of rice husk ash/CaO is possibly a key factor in determining the cyclic CO2 capture behavior of rice husk ash/CaO.  相似文献

A new regenerable alumina-modified sorbent was developed for CO2 capture at temperatures below 200 °C. The CO2 capture capacity of a potassium-based sorbent containing Al2O3 (KAlI) decreased during multiple CO2 sorption (60 °C) and regeneration (200 °C) tests due to the formation of the KAl(CO3)(OH)2 phase, which could be converted into the original K2CO3 phase above 300 °C. However, the new regenerable potassium-based sorbent (Re-KAl(I)) maintained its CO2 capture capacity during multiple tests even at a regeneration temperature of 130 °C. In particular, the CO2 capture capacity of the Re-KAl(I)60 sorbent which was prepared by the impregnation of Al2O3 with 60 wt.% K2CO3 was about 128 mg CO2/g sorbent. This excellent CO2 capture capacity and regeneration property were due to the characteristics of the Re-KAl(I) sorbent producing only a KHCO3 phase during CO2 sorption, unlike the KAlI30 sorbent which formed the KHCO3 and KAl(CO3)(OH)2 phases even at 60 °C. This result was explained through the structural effect of the support containing the KAl(CO3)(OH)2 phase which was prepared by impregnation of Al2O3 with K2CO3 in the presence of CO2.  相似文献

This study examines the CO2 capture behavior of KMnO4-doped CaO-based sorbent during the multiple calcination/carbonation cycles. The cyclic carbonation behavior of CaCO3 doped with KMnO4 and the untreated CaCO3 was investigated. The addition of KMnO4 improves the cyclic carbonation rate of the sorbent above carbonation time of 257 s at each carbonation cycle. When the mass ratio of KMnO4/CaCO3 is about 0.5-0.8 wt.%, the sorbent can achieve an optimum carbonation conversion during the long-term cycles. The carbonation temperature of 660-710 °C is beneficial to cyclic carbonation of KMnO4-doped CaCO3. The addition of KMnO4 improves the long-term performance of CaCO3, resulting in directly measured conversion as high as 0.35 after 100 cycles, while the untreated CaCO3 retains conversion less than 0.16 at the same reaction conditions. The addition of KMnO4 decreases the surface area and pore volume of CaCO3 after 1 cycle, but it maintains the surface area and pores between 26 nm and 175 nm of the sorbent during the multiple cycles. Calculation reveals that the addition of KMnO4 improves the CO2 capture efficiency significantly using a CaCO3 calcination/carbonation cycle and decreases the amount of the fresh sorbent.  相似文献

CaO-based sorbent looping cycle, i.e. cyclic calcination/carbonation, is one of the most interesting technologies for CO2 capture during coal combustion and gasification processes. In order to improve the durability of limestone during the multiple calcination/carbonation cycles, modified limestone with acetic acid solution was proposed as an CO2 sorbent. The cyclic carbonation conversions of modified limestone and original one were investigated in a twin fixed bed reactor system. The modified limestone shows the optimum carbonation conversion at the carbonation temperature of 650 °C and achieves a conversion of 0.5 after 20 cycles. The original limestone exhibits the maximum carbonation conversion of 0.15 after 20 cycles. Conversion of the modified limestone decreases slightly as the calcination temperature increases from 920 °C to 1100 °C with the number of cycles, while conversion of the original one displays a sharp decay at the same reaction conditions. The durability of the modified limestone is significantly better than the original one during the multiple cycles because mean grain size of CaO derived from the modified limestone is lower than that from the original one at the same reaction conditions. The calcined modified limestone shows higher surface area and pore volume than the calcined original one with the number of cycles, and pore size distribution of the modified limestone is superior to the original one after the same number of calcinations.  相似文献

Although a number of reports on sorbents containing ZnO for H2S removal from coal-derived gases can be found in the literature, it is shown in our study that a special sorbent containing Fe2O3·FeO (SFO) with minor promoters (Al2O3, K2O, and CaO) as the main active species is more attractive for both sulfidation and regeneration stages, also under economic considerations. This paper presents the kinetic behaviour of SFO in a hot gas desulfurization process using a thermogravimetric analysis under isothermal condition in the operating range between 500 and 800 °C. The gas stream was N2 with a 2% wt of H2S. Experiences carried out on sorbent sulfidation with SFO (particle sizes in the range of 0.042-0.12 mm) indicate that the sorbent sulfidation capacity sharply increases with temperature in the range of 500-600 °C. It is also shown that the sample weight reaches its maximum absorption capacity, near saturation, at 600 °C so that it makes no sense to increase the sulfidation temperature from this point. To make a comparison between SFO and a zinc titanate based sorbent, a set of sulfidation tests was carried out at 600 °C during 7200 s using the same sieve range for both sorbents between 42 and 90 μm. Results show that the sulfidation capacity of SFO is 1.9 times higher than that of zinc titanate.  相似文献

The use of Pd-based sorbents for high temperature removal of AsH3 from gasified coal was investigated using a simulated gas feed. A sorbent consisting of 5 wt% Pd on alumina beads has been tested for AsH3 removal from synthetic fuel gas (CO, CO2, H2) at 204 and 288 °C. Arsenic uptake was found to be essentially linear with exposure time and considerably higher than that for unpromoted alumina beads. Arsenic loadings in excess of 7 wt% were achieved, though the sorbent is unlikely to be saturated at this loading. As the arsenic loading on the sorbent increased a PdAs2 phase was identified in the XRD pattern. The adsorption of arsine on palladium has potential implications for catalysts, electrodes, and membranes for the separation of hydrogen from fuel gas.

A method was developed for selection of promising solvents based on CO2 absorption experiments at 40 °C and 9.5 kPa CO2 partial pressure followed by desorption of the same solvents at 80 °C down to 1.0 kPa CO2 partial pressure. Experiments conducted on 13 solvent systems under atmospheric conditions revealed the solvents absorption and desorption characteristics and these were compared with 1.0 M, 2.5 M, 5.0 M and 10.0 M MEA. Results showed that absorption or stripping data alone were not sufficient in making robust solvent selection decisions, and that combined data analysis was necessary. 1.0 M tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) and 5.0 M MEA showed the best performance in terms of absorption rate. 1.5 M Bis-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) amine (TMBPA) was easy to desorb, has high absorption capacity; and when promoted it showed the best performance in terms of CO2 carrying capacity. At the test conditions, 1.5 M TMBPA promoted with 1.0 M PZ showed the best potential for efficient CO2 removal at reduced cost of all systems tested. Its cyclic capacity in mol CO2/mol amine was found to be 70% higher than that of 5 M MEA.  相似文献

This study presents an investigation into the desulfurization effect of sorbent derived from South African calcined limestone conditioned with fly ash. The main aim was to examine the effect of chemical composition and structural properties of the sorbent with regard to SO2 removal in dry-type flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process. South African fly ash and CaO obtained from calcination of limestone in a laboratory kiln at a temperature of 900 °C were used to synthesize CaO/ash sorbent by atmospheric hydration process. The sorbent was prepared under different hydration conditions: CaO/fly ash weight ratio, hydration temperature (55-75 °C) and hydration period (4-10 h). Desulfurization experiments were done in the fixed bed reactor at 87 °C and relative humidity of 50%. The chemical composition of both the fly ash and calcined limestone had relatively high Fe2O3 and oxides of other transitional elements which provided catalytic ability during the sorbent sorption process. Generally the sorbents had higher SO2 absorption capacity in terms of mol of SO2 per mol of sorbent (0.1403-0.3336) compared to hydrated lime alone (maximum 0.1823). The sorbents were also found to consist of mesoporous structure with larger pore volume and BET specific surface area than both CaO and fly ash. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed the presence of complex compounds containing calcium silicate hydrate in the sorbents.  相似文献

The dolomite modified with acetic acid solution was proposed as a CO2 sorbent for calcination/carbonation cycles. The carbonation conversions for modified and original dolomites in a twin fixed-bed reactor system with increasing the numbers of cycles were investigated. The carbonation temperature in the range of 630 °C–700 °C is beneficial to the carbonation reaction of modified dolomite. The carbonation conversion for modified dolomite is significantly higher than that for original sorbent at the same reaction conditions with increasing numbers of reaction cycles. The modified dolomite exhibits a carbonation conversion of 0.6 after 20 cycles, while the unmodified sorbent shows a conversion of 0.26 at the same reaction conditions, which is calcined at 920 °C and carbonated at 650 °C. At the high calcination temperature over 920 °C modified dolomite can maintain much higher conversion than unmodified sorbent. The mean grain size of CaO derived from modified dolomite is smaller than that from original sorbent with increasing numbers of reaction cycles. The calcined modified dolomite possesses greater surface area and pore volume than calcined original sorbent during the multiple cycles. The pore volume and pore area distributions for calcined modified dolomite are also superior to those for calcined unmodified sorbent during the looping cycle. The modified dolomite is proved as a new and promising type of regenerable CO2 sorbent for industrial applications.  相似文献

CO2 capture systems based on the carbonation/calcination loop have gained rapid interest due to promising carbonator CO2 capture efficiency, low sorbent cost and no flue gases treatment is required before entering the system. These features together result in a competitively low cost CO2 capture system. Among the key variables that influence the performance of these systems and their integration with power plants, the carbonation conversion of the sorbent and the heat requirement at calciner are the most relevant. Both variables are mainly influenced by CaO/CO2 ratio and make-up flow of solids. New sorbents are under development to reduce the decay of their carbonation conversion with cycles. The aim of this study is to assess the competitiveness of new limestones with enhanced sorption behaviour applied to carbonation/calcination cycle integrated with a power plant, compared to raw limestone. The existence of an upper limit for the maximum average capture capacity of CaO has been considered. Above this limit, improving sorbent capture capacity does not lead to the corresponding increase in capture efficiency and, thus, reduction of CO2 avoided cost is not observed. Simulations calculate the maximum price for enhanced sorbents to achieve a reduction in CO2 removal cost under different process conditions (solid circulation and make-up flow). The present study may be used as an assessment tool of new sorbents to understand what prices would be competitive compare with raw limestone in the CO2 looping capture systems.  相似文献

Perovskite-type SrCo0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (SCF) has been prepared by a liquid citrate method and used to produce O2-CO2 gas mixture for oxyfuel combustion. Oxygen is desorbed and an oxygen-enriched carbon dioxide stream is obtained when SCF is exposed in a carbon dioxide stream at high temperature. Oxygen is adsorbed when SCF is regenerated in an air stream. A carbonation-reaction mechanism for O2-desorption has been identified with the evidences of XRD and TGA analysis. It is found that the theoretical oxygen sorption capacity decreases with the increase of temperature. The sorption kinetics over a temperature range of 700-900 °C has been examined by TGA experiment. Both desorption and sorption processes exhibit a high reaction rate in an initial stage followed by a slower rate in a second stage. It is difficult to reach the theoretical oxygen sorption capacity during the whole temperature range due to the slow oxygen desorption rate. Optimal temperatures for oxygen sorption and desorption processes are determined to be 900 and 850 °C, respectively. Multiple sorption and desorption cycles indicate that SCF sorbent has high reactivity and cyclic stability. Comparison with the reference La0.1Sr0.9Co0.5Fe0.5O2.6 (LSCF) and Sr0.5Ca0.5Co0.5Fe0.5O2.47 (SCCF) sorbents shows that SCF has faster carbonation reaction at high temperature, i.e., 850 and 900 °C, and much higher theoretical oxygen sorption capacities.  相似文献

Sulphur capture by calcium-based sorbents is a process highly dependent on the temperature and CO2 concentration. In oxy-fuel combustion in fluidised beds (FB), CO2 concentration in the flue gas may be enriched up to 95%. Under so high CO2 concentration, different from that in conventional coal combustion with air, the calcination and sulphation behaviour of the sorbent must be defined to determine the optimum operating temperature in the FB combustors. In this work, the SO2 retention capacity of two different limestones was tested by thermogravimetric analysis at typical oxy-fuel conditions in FB combustors. The effect of the main operating variables affecting calcination and sulphation reactions, like CO2 and SO2 concentrations, temperature, and sorbent particle size, was analysed. It was observed a clear difference in the sulphation conversion reached by the sorbent whether the sulphation takes place under indirect or direct sulphation, being much higher under indirect sulphation. But, in spite of this difference, for a given condition and temperature, the CO2 concentration did not affect to the sulphation conversion, being its major effect to delay the CaCO3 decomposition to a higher temperature. For the typical operating conditions and sorbent particle sizes used in oxy-fuel FB combustors, the maximum sorbent sulphation conversions were reached at temperatures of about 900 °C. At these conditions, limestone sulphation took place in two steps. The first one was controlled by diffusion through porous system of the particles until pore plugging, and the second controlled by the diffusion through product layer. As a consequence, the maximum sulphation conversion increased with decreasing the particle size and increasing the SO2 concentration.  相似文献

A synthetic, Ca-based solid sorbent, showed a marked increase in its ultimate uptake for CO2 at temperatures in excess of 750 °C when the concentration of CO2 was increased during carbonation in a fluidised bed. In contrast, the uptakes by natural sorbents, e.g. dolomite, were relatively insensitive to the concentration of CO2. It is apparent that the rate of reaction of the synthetic sorbent falls to zero once the small pores within the grains, of which the particle is composed, have largely filled and a thin layer of product has been deposited around each grain. To quantify this effect, theory has been developed in which the mechanical work required to disrupt the layer of product is taken into account. The resulting model for the overall uptake correlates experimental measurements well, except in circumstances where carbonation times are so long that sintering introduces gross changes in the morphology of the layer of product. The explanation for why the overall conversion of the synthetic sorbent is dependent on the concentration of CO2, whilst the conversion of dolomite is insensitive to [CO2], is attributed to differences in the yield stress, σY, needed to disrupt the layer of product formed in the two materials. It was found that the value of σY for dolomite is about an order of magnitude larger than that for the synthetic sorbent. The behaviour of the synthetic sorbent in response to increasing concentrations of CO2 makes it an attractive solid for the separation of CO2 from, e.g. the flue gases arising from combustion. By subsequently calcining the resulting solid, a pure stream of CO2 can be produced whilst the sorbent is regenerated for further use.  相似文献

Adsorption is considered a promising method for carbon capture. CO2 adsorbents take a variety of forms - but one approach is to fill mesoporous substrates with a polymeric CO2 selective sorbent. SBA-15 and mesocellular siliceous foam (MCF) are high pore volume, high surface area ordered mesoporous materials for which modification with amine should result in high capacity, highly selective adsorbents. SBA-15 and MCF were separately loaded with approximately one pore volume equivalent of linear polyethyleneimine (PEI) (Mw = 2500) or branched PEI (Mn = 1200). CO2 adsorption/desorption isotherms under dry CO2 were obtained at 75, 105 and 115 °C. The CO2 adsorption/desorption kinetics were improved with temperature, though the CO2 capacities generally decreased. The adsorption capacity for MCF loaded with branched PEI at 105 and 115 °C were 151 and 133 mg/g adsorbent, respectively (in 50% CO2/Ar, 20 min adsorption time). These are significantly higher than the adsorption capacity observed for SBA-15 loaded with branched PEI under same conditions, which were 107 and 83 mg/g adsorbent, respectively. Thus the results indicate that, on a unit mass basis, amine modified MCF's are potentially better adsorbents than amine modified SBA-15 for CO2 capture at modestly elevated temperature in a vacuum swing adsorption process.  相似文献
