This paper presents a prototype software system for visualization and analysis of hydrologic data that provides interoperability between the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI) Hydrologic Information System (HIS) and the R statistical computing environment. By linking these two systems within a single desktop software application, an integrated hydrologic data management and analysis environment has been created that simplifies the process used by scientists and engineers to find, access, organize, and analyze the hydrologic data needed in modeling and managing hydrologic and environmental systems. The implementation of this work is a software plug-in for the CUAHSI HIS HydroDesktop software system called HydroR. We describe the design, graphical user interface, and implementation of the HydroR plug-in. An example application of HydroR is presented in which total suspended solids concentrations are modeled for the Little Bear River using a regression developed from turbidity and total suspended solids observations downloaded from the CUAHSI HIS using HydroDesktop. Finally, we conclude with a summary of our experience in developing interoperability between HIS and R and suggest future developments that can extend the capabilities we have developed.  相似文献

Process modeling has gained prominence in the information systems modeling area due to its focus on business processes and its usefulness in such business improvement methodologies as Total Quality Management, Business Process Reengineering, and Workflow Management. However, process modeling techniques are not without their criticisms [13]. This paper proposes and uses the Bunge-Wand-Weber (BWW) representation model to analyze the five views — process, data, function, organization and output — provided in the Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) popularized by Scheer [39, 40, 41]. The BWW representation model attempts to provide a theoretical base on which to evaluate and thus contribute to the improvement of information systems modeling techniques. The analysis conducted in this paper prompts some propositions. It confirms that the process view alone is not sufficient to model all the real-world constructs required. Some other symbols or views are needed to overcome these deficiencies. However, even when considering all five views in combination, problems may arise in representing all potentially required business rules, specifying the scope and boundaries of the system under consideration, and employing a “top-down” approach to analysis and design. Further work from this study will involve the operationalization of these propositions and their empirical testing in the field.  相似文献

Delayed incentives in the form of cash mail-in rebates have become very popular. While some research has been conducted on consumer perception and behavior toward rebates, little research has been undertaken with respect to a seller’s optimal rebate strategy. We use an agent-based modeling approach for jointly determining optimal price and rebate value. This approach has been previously applied to pricing and can capture some aspects of the problem which are difficult to analyze using traditional mathematical modeling. The model indicates that rebates are much more profitable when their values are jointly determined with price. In addition, the profitability of rebates at a given time depends on past consumers’ experience with rebates and that consumers’ memory of their past rebate redemption behavior plays an important role in determining the profitability of rebates. Also, the analysis shows that agent-based modeling may provide an alternative method for analyzing problems in which interactions between participants in the systems, i.e. consumers, sellers, and regulating agencies, are important in determining the overall behavior of the system.  相似文献

This communication discusses the potential role of ‘thresholds’ in hydrologic modeling and forecasting. Based on representative examples of studies employing data learning techniques in hydrology (e.g. artificial neural networks, chaos theory, optimization procedures), some of the problems in the existing data calibration and validation procedures are highlighted. Deriving an analogy between human behavior and catchment behavior, emphasizing their internal characteristics and their responses to external events, the concept of thresholds and its use in catchment hydrology are presented. In view of recent calls to focus on dominant processes in hydrology, a proposal is made for integration of concepts of Dominant Processes and Thresholds. User modeling issues are examined in the context of a user-adapted guidance system. The system provides users with instructions about natural tasks without introducing a special time-consuming sub-dialog to learn the user's knowledge. A model for providing such guidance is developed on the basis of a phenomenological analysis of human guidance, and illustrated by a system that gives directions in geographical domains. The main features of the user model design include: (1) Bothimplicit andexplicit acquisition methods are employed in a flexible manner; (2) The guidance instructions and the user model are generated incrementally and interchangeably; (3) User's responses and no-responses are employed as a source of information for the user modeling. The model and the resulting system's performance are examined in light of recent development in the cognitive literature.E. Shifroni is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the Technion. He received his B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1982, and his M.S. degree in Computer Science from the same University in 1984. His primary interests lie in the areas of dialog systems and user modeling. This paper summarizes the current state of his thesis work on interactive user modeling.B. Shanon studied philosophy and linguistics in Tel-Aviv university, and linguistics and psychology at Stanford (PhD in psychology, 1974). After teaching at MIT joined the Department of Psychology of the Hebrew University, of which he is now chairperson. Also served as a visiting professor at Cornell University and Swarthmore College, as a visiting fellow at Princeton University, and as a visiting scholar at the center of interdisciplinary Research of the University of Bielefeld and at the Rockefeller Foundation Study center in Bellagio. Research interest focus on the conceptual foundation of cognitive science, the phenomenology of human conscious mentation, and on the psychology of creativity. A novel approach to automated visual inspection based on comparing a volumetric model of a reference object to a volumetric model of an actual object which is iteratively created from sensor data is presented. The use of volumetric models gives this approach a number of distinct advantages over more traditional surface-based methods. First, there is no need to identify "features," which is important when inspecting objects whose features are difficult to identify. Second, volumetric inspection lends itself naturally to multisensor applications. Finally, true 3-D comparisons of the reference and sensed objects can be easily carried out using volumetric models.  相似文献

Domain models can be constructed more easily and made more robust by reusing ontologies in a well-defined way. In this paper the KARO approach is introduced which provides various means of retrieving and adapting components of an ontology as part of a domain model construction process. KARO is based on the knowledge-processing component LILOG-KR provided by the LILOG text-understanding system. Above all, the notion of classification is applied for the retrieval of relevant categories. The upper structure of LILOG-KB serves as an exemplary ontology. By integrating KARO into the Model-based and Incremental Knowledge Engineering Environment (MIKE) the reuse of a predefined ontology can be integrated into the development process of expert systems in a systematic way.  相似文献

A time-serial multi-block modeling (TSMBM) algorithm is proposed for dynamic process monitoring, which considers a unified framework of multi-block modeling and auto-correlation extraction. The proposed TSMBM-based method first constructs time-serial multi-blocks according to the sampling time nodes, the correlation between different blocks then serves as a good representation for the auto-correlated characteristic in the given data. With the utilization of multi-block projecting bases, three categories of auto-correlated variations can be captured in different block models. Furthermore, the Kalman filter is employed to generate dynamic noise and measurement noise inheriting little auto-correlation for online monitoring purposes. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are validated through comparisons with other state-of-art dynamic process monitoring approaches.  相似文献
