In the culture of most organizations, IT people are treated as if they are different from other business-line employees. Although this treatment can cause friction between IT and the business organization, it can actually benefit the IT hiring process. Because of the tight IT labor market, IT professionals should not be bound to the hiring procedures that are used for other employees. The word success is very powerful. It creates strong, but widely varied, images that may range from the final seconds of an athletic contest to a graduation ceremony to the loss of 10 pounds. Success makes us feel good; it's cause for celebration. All these examples of success are marked by a measurable end point, whether externally or self-created. Most of us who create software approach projects with some similar idea of success. Our feelings from project start to end are often strongly influenced by whether we spent any early time describing this success and how we might measure progress. Software metrics measure specific attributes of a software product or a software development process. In other words, they are measures of success. It's convenient to group the ways that we apply metrics to measure success into four areas. What do you need to measure and analyze to make your project a success? A large US company, UIC successfully outsources embedded software development after applying people- and project-focused practices developed from a prior failed attempt. In this article the author describes 10 practices that have helped UIC create an offshore development strategy that produces embedded software at a lower cost while maintaining quality. These lessons show how both the people involved in offshore projects and the projects themselves must be treated differently from internally developed projects. Even with the high complexities and intellectual property concerns surrounding embedded software development, UIC has used these practices to establish processes that ensure successful delivery and protection of UIC's intellectual property.  相似文献

We extend the hiring and firing framework of Shepp and Shiryaev (J Econ Dyn Control 20:1523?C1539, 1996) to include infighting, and solve the profit-maximization problem using our numerical technique. With infighting, we find a smaller optimal firm size, and lowered firm value that stems from reduced operations and rapid profit-taking. Upon calibrating our model to match the cases of Levi Strauss & Co. and Microsoft, we find with Levi??s, that our model matches media estimates of its loss in value fairly closely. With Microsoft, our model might explain its loss in value and poor decision-making, such as its recent acquisitions. The implications of our model for corporate governance might also help in reducing the current unemployment rate.  相似文献

The detection and correction of false friends—also called real-word errors—is a notoriously difficult problem. On realistic data, the break-even point for automatic correction so far could not be reached: the number of additional infelicitous corrections outnumbered the useful corrections. We present a new approach where we first compute a profile of the error channel for the given text. During the correction process, the profile (1) helps to restrict attention to a small set of “suspicious” lexical tokens of the input text where it is “plausible” to assume that the token represents a false friend. In this way, recognition of false friends is improved. Furthermore, the profile (2) helps to isolate the “most promising” correction suggestion for “suspicious” tokens. Using a conventional word trigram statistics for disambiguation we obtain a correction method that can be successfully applied to unrestricted text. In experiments for OCR documents, we show significant accuracy gains by fully automatic correction of false friends.  相似文献

针对局域网环境下系统仿真的时钟同步需求,提出了一种时钟同步与保持方法.首先建立客户端与授时服务器的网络连接,通过多次网络通信,得到客户端与授时服务器时间差的不等式组,通过解不等式组求出时间差的有效范围,这样有效地提高了时钟同步的精度.然后通过两个校准时间参考点对系统的脉冲频率进行校准,使得已同步的时钟得以保持,从而避免了在仿真应用中频繁地进行同步,节省了时间开销.实验结果表明,这种方法的同步误差在50μs左右,且可以在较长时间内保持.  相似文献
