The authors demonstrate the potential of using POLarization Shift Keying (POLSK) modulation format combined with semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems. The constant intensity of the POLSK modulation format allows for substantial removal of cross-gain-modulation impairments in SOAs so that practical amplifier spacing values (more than 100 km) are demonstrated in various different experimental configurations. Record WDM transmission experiments at 10 Gb/s by using SOA-based amplification are presented in short and medium reach system architectures using either single mode fiber or nonzero dispersion shifted fiber 相似文献

This paper considers the requirements of, and proposes technical solutions for, the optical transmission modules used in intraoffice links. A novel crosstalk noise measurement procedure is proposed along with a quantitative evaluation method for crosstalk prevention which is very important in the development of compact modules. A procedure for circuit adjustment elimination is also proposed, previously a great obstacle to attaining low manufacturing costs. Based upon the above, two types of modules are developed for DS2 and DS3 signal transmissions which meet the requirements of small size, low power consumption, and low cost without transmission performance degradation. 相似文献

Light is absorbed and scattered by whole blood. At very low hematocrit values scattering is small, but for hematocrit ?0.05 light patterns in blood indicate that scattered photons obey the diffusion equations. Diffusion theory predicts the circular light patterns observed in normal whole blood. Transmittance measurements by small fiberoptic probes in a blood medium give data which are in good agreement with diffusion theory. Values of the diffusion penetration depth ?d are obtained from the data, which give a quantitative measure of light penetration into blood. 相似文献

There is general agreement among members of the engineering community that the interoffice telephone trunk is a prime candidate for commercial application of fiber optical systems. Field performance, in terms of endurance in a working telephone environment, remains as one of the few questions to be answered. A fiber optic transmission system was installed between two telephone central offices to demonstrate the performance of a practical system. The installed system uses Burrus Type LED sources and APD detectors. Most of the ancillary equipment uses conventional electronics. This paper describes the operation, considers the similarities between optical and metallic transmission requirements and discusses the method of route selection. The installation of fiber optic cable in existing underground ducts will be covered as well. Hand tools for fiber splicing developed specifically for field applications, will be described and their use will be discussed. 本文先利用电磁场的边界条件导出平面电磁波垂直入射于多层平板旋波媒质的透射场表达式。然后用传输线理论中的阻抗法,解决了多层平板旋波媒质的反射问题。最后对多层旋波媒质平板的一特例-双层结构型旅波吸波材料进行了计算机辅助设计分析,分析表明,双层代替单层可以在一定程度上改善涂层的吸波特性。 相似文献
