The American infrastructure report card in 2013 rated the US water system infrastructure with grade of ‘D’. The Canadian infrastructure report card in 2012 stated that around 15.4% of Canada’s water infrastructure has a condition of fair to very poor. Thus, there is a critical need to develop efficient inspection, maintenance and rehabilitation plans for water distribution networks. However, such plans require an assessment tool to evaluate the performance and condition of water distribution networks. Therefore, the main purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated performance assessment model for water distribution networks. Two modules were developed to assess the performance of water pipelines and accessories, respectively. A third module was developed to assess the performance of water segments that includes pipelines and accessories. Moreover, a fourth module was built to assess the performance of each sub-network and the entire network based on the segments’ connection type using a reliability-based approach. To assess the performance of the water distribution network, the critical factors affecting its pipelines and accessories were identified and studied. The fuzzy analytic network process technique was used to obtain the importance weights of the identified factors. 相似文献

In order to achieve high quality that not only gives acceptable return value to society but also satisfies the needs of all the stakeholders of infrastructure projects, comprehensive understanding of issues pertaining to the quality of the project is needed. The aim of this study is to provide an overview the most common procurement methods used in constructing infrastructure transport projects and analyze how these methods contribute to the desired quality of the final product in relation to client competence. An on-line survey of construction actors was carried out to ascertain quality level of Swedish infrastructure transport projects and determinant factors of quality problems. An equal number of respondents indicated that the quality of infrastructure projects has either increased or remained same level over the past twenty years. Respondents also pointed out lack of client competence that is vital in realizing the desired quality level through proper procurement, monitoring and evaluation procedures. Public clients heavily rely on traditional design-build procurement that requires considerable client involvement of a project. Thus, the association of quality problems and lack of client competence may not be a mere coincidence but an overlooked outcome of current situation. 相似文献

The extension of newly built towns, particularly in the residential sector, requires supplying the new areas with an underground infrastructure network. The urban profile and the technical solutions applied, as well as the assumed conceptions of the infrastructure installation, will determine the future operating costs of the infrastructure network, its utilization value, and finally, the investment expenditures. An analysis of the existing residential developments indicates that service tunnels are a solution that offers the greatest advantages in serviceability, even when the construction costs are higher in comparison with more conventional solutions. This paper discusses some aspects of service tunnel design that integrates the underground infrastructure network for a new building development. The connections of the tunnels with other elements of the development's technical infrastructure are described, and the relationships between the service tunnel, the communication system, and the building development itself are explored. The basic problems arising from laying the service gallery network in the basements of buildings are considered, and potential solutions related to building functions and construction methods are analyzed. 相似文献
