A novel digital signal processing-based coherent receiver for phase-modulated radio-over-fiber (RoF) optical links is presented and demonstrated experimentally. Error-free demodulation of 50-Mbaud binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase-shift keying data signal modulated on a 5-GHz radio-frequency (RF) carrier is experimentally demonstrated using the proposed digital coherent receiver. Additionally, a wavelength- division-multiplexing (WDM) phase-modulated RoF optical link is experimentally demonstrated. A 3$, times ,$50 Mb/s WDM transmission of a BPSK modulated 5-GHz RF carrier is achieved over 25 km for the WDM channel spacing of 12.5 and 25 GHz, respectively.   相似文献

A modified BPSK modulation technique using premodulation filtering is presented. The modified BPSK modulator achieves a smooth phase transition from 0 to π rad by going through an intermediate value ofpi/2rad. The resultant PSK signal has a very low AM component, particularly suitable for data transmission through nonlinear channels. Experimental tests performed in a channel having a high degree of AM nonlinearity (AM-to-AM conversion), have shown that the modified BPSK signal, when passed through a hard-limiter, has a spectrum with greatly reduced spectral sidelobes compared to the conventional BPSK signal. The modified BPSK signal has spectral lines at the carrier frequency plus multiples of the signaling frequency, which in some cases might be useful for timing recovery in the demodulation process.  相似文献

Digital coherent detection of multi-channel subcarrier multiplexed optically phase-modulated radio-over-fibre signals is experimentally demonstrated. Successful detection after transmission over a 40 kmlong fibre link of four or five 25 Mbaud BPSK/QPSK subcarrier channels in 5 GHz bandwidth is demonstrated using offline digital signal processing.  相似文献

An underwater acoustic multimedia communication (UWAMC) system is proposed with 2400 transmission modes according to time-varying multipath underwater acoustic (UWA) channel conditions. The orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) scheme and Gold sequence (GS) scramble code are integrated into multi-input multi-output UWAMC system based on orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing to achieve the quality of service of multimedia transmission in the UWA channel. Binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) adaptive modulation, direct mapping (DM) or space–time block code (STBC) transmission strategies, convolution channel code with rate 1/2 and 1/3, and a power assignment mechanism were adopted in the proposed system. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) and power saving ratio (PSR) performance of the STBC strategy with transmission diversity is superior to that of the DM strategy without transmission diversity, and the performance of the BERs and PSRs of the transmission scheme with the GS scramble code surpasses that of the scheme without the code. The performance of the BERs and PSRs of BPSK modulation with a channel code rate of 1/3 is better than that of BPSK modulation with a channel code rate of 1/2, and the performances of BERs and PSRs of BPSK modulation with a channel code rate of 1/3 are better than that of QPSK modulation with a channel code rate of 1/3. As the length of the OVSF codes increases, the UWAMC system’s BERs decrease, and its PSRs increase. The UWAMC system can achieve either maximum transmission speed or maximum transmission power efficiency.  相似文献

We describe the first single-fibre lightwave transmission system with more than 1 Tbit km/s capacity. The ultrahigh-capacity transmission over 68.3 km of low-loss single-mode fibre was achieved by closely spaced wavelength division multiplexing of ten distributed feedback lasers. The lasers operated around 1.5 ?m wavelength and the multiplexer channel spacing was 1.35 nm. Each laser/channel was modulated at 2 Gbit/s giving a total transmission capacity of 1.366 Tbit km/s.  相似文献

A single-channel single-polarisation all-fibre-optic transmission system at 830 nm wavelength with transmitter laser and a heterodyne receiver with local laser, monomode fibre coupler and APD mixer has been set up. The intermediate frequency was 1.5 GHz. 8.4 Mbit/s digital signals were transmitted over 280 m of single-polarisation fibre by a subcarrier modulated baseband method.  相似文献

The problem of designing and evaluating the performance of a maximum likelihood sequence receiver for binary PSK transmission over bandlimited nonlinear channels is considered in this paper. The effects of intersymbol interference followed by AM/AM and AM/PM conversions are taken into account while optimizing the performance in the presence of white Gaussian noise. A new representation for the output of a bandpass nonlinearity is given when the input consists of a carrier signal modulated by a sum of binary overlapping pulses. The structure of a maximum likelihood sequence receiver for a bandlimited nonlinear channel is derived using this representation. The receiver uses a modified Viterbi algorithm to determine the most likely sequence of data symbols transmitted. An upperbound on the probability of symbol error for this receiver is obtained. Numerical results illustrating the applicability of the present work to optimizing the performance of a digital satellite communications link are also presented.  相似文献

In this paper, a new technique for simultaneous voice and multiclass data transmission over fading channels using adaptive hierarchical modulation is proposed. According to the link quality, the proposed scheme changes the constellation size as well as the priority parameters of the hierarchical signal constellations and assigns available subchannels (i.e., different bit positions) to different kinds of bits. Specifically, for very bad channel conditions, it only transmits voice with binary phase-shift keying (BPSK). As the channel condition improves, a variable-rate adaptive hierarchical M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) is used to increase the data throughput. The voice bits are always transmitted in the lowest priority subchannel (i.e., the least significant bit (LSB) position) of the quadrature (Q) channel of the hierarchical M-QAM. The remaining (log/sub 2/M-1) subchannels, called data subchannels, are assigned to two different classes of data according to the selected priority parameters. Closed-form expressions as well as numerical results for outage probability, achievable spectral efficiency, and average bit error rate (BER) for voice and data transmission over Nakagami-m fading channels are presented. The adaptive techniques employing hybrid binary shift keying (BPSK)/M-ary AM (M-AM) and uniform M-QAM for simultaneous voice and two different classes of data transmission are also extended. Compared to the extended schemes, the new proposed scheme is spectrally more efficient for data transmission, while keeping the same outage probability for voice and data (both classes) as the scheme employing BPSK/M-AM. The new scheme also provides, as a by-product, a spectrally efficient way of transmitting voice and a single-class data.  相似文献

Studies of digital transmission over typical urban and suburban mobile channels using simulations that employ a local area model for the time varying mobile channel impulse response are discussed. The digital transmission techniques of coherently detected and differentially coherent detected versions of quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK), Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK), and coherently detected binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) over example mobile channels are presented. Two measures of performance are considered; the mean bit error ratio (and irreducible bit error ratio), which is used to compare the robustness of the various modulation methods to delay spread, and the outage probability, which provides a measure of the overall transmission quality as would be perceived by a user. Emphasis is placed on results obtained for GMSK, which is the modulation scheme to be employed in the Pan-European digital cellular mobile system. The effects of RMS delay spread on the mean bit error ratio, mean irreducible bit error ratio, and probability of outage are considered for different channel types  相似文献

The appearance of high bit rate digital radio systems would appear to demand the existence of wide-band channel models, planning tools, and simulation capabilities. The authors present an overview of various approaches to wide-band channel data acquisition (channel sounding) and data analysis for the locally QWSSUS channel. They outline how high-speed digital signal processing techniques can be employed to construct a nearly ideal real-time wide-band channel sounder. The digital sounder described employs a TMS32050A to implement a matched filter type receiver. The probe signal is a carrier BPSK modulated with a binary maximal length sequence; the received signal is processed in real time, yielding a complex time variant channel impulse response. A dynamic range in excess of 40 dB is achieved. They also briefly discuss techniques to use this data for stored channel simulation. Finally, by way of pointing out that much more information can be extracted from channel sounding data than is generally appreciated, they briefly discuss the use of probability theory (Bayesian techniques) in model selection  相似文献

A high-power Nd:YAG laser with a linearized external modulator-based system is demonstrated for a transmission of 50 channels of vestigal sideband amplitude modulated (VSM AM) video. The 1320-nm diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser is an attractive source for AM video transmission due to the high output power (~200 mW) and low relative intensity noise (<-170 dB/Hz). However, the required external modulator generates third-order distortion products, which limit the performance of such a system. A predistortion linearization technique is described. It reduces the modulator generated third-order distortion products by 16.4 dB, allowing a modulation index of 3.37% per channel. When combined with the Nd:YAG laser, this yields a 50-channel video transmission system with a 12 dB optical power budget for video carrier-to-noise ratios of 52 dB and composite distortion products (CSO and CTB) of less than -60 dBc. The demonstrated power budget is sufficient to allow four-way power splitting, with the remaining margin comparable to the test results obtained with DFB (distributed-feedback) laser-based AM transmission systems  相似文献

Fibre-optic supertrunking has a well-established place in larger CATV networks. Supertrunks have to be transparent to the quality of the transmitted TV signals and they have to have a negligible impact on the system reliability of the total network. At least 60 dB (weighted) video SNR has to be achieved and down times of less than one hour per year per fibre are desirable. AM on fibre can achieve these goals only in shorter supertrunks. FM and digital modulation techniques with a higher loss budget than AM are well suited for high transmission quality as well as for redundant supertrunk topologies, achieving excellent system availability numbers at the expense of increased equipment complexity.  相似文献

数字波束系统中,通常采用相位加权实现波束成形,但这种方式对具有一定带宽的调制信号而言是存在失真的。为了研究这种失真对典型数字通信的影响,首先建立了一维线性均匀加权直线阵数字波束成形模型,介绍了这种阵列天线相位波束成形的原理,随后结合BPSK调制信号,对数字波束相位成形过程进行推导,获得相位成形波束接收信号数学表达式。通过分析表明对于BPSK调制信号而言,相位波束成形会引入码间串扰,并且串扰影响随着阵列规模增大、信息速率提高、波束扫描角度增大而加剧。  相似文献

A wavelength-division-multiplexing transmission experiment using a 1300/1500 nm dual-wavelength LED modulated at 140/560 Mbit/s over 10 km of single-mode fibre has been demonstrated. This dual-LED device has a 9 ?m emitter spacing between the active facets with a coupling loss of 2.3 dB through a lens/fibre coupler. The chromatic dispersion penalty for the 1500 nm channel at 560 Mbit/s was about 6-5 dB and the electrical crosstalk penalty was 2.5 dB.  相似文献

In this paper a complete communication system simulation package is described, which includes digital as well as analog operations to be performed on the signal to be transmitted. The package simulates the transmitter, the communication channel, and the receiver. The digital transmission simulation considers data communication systems with digital filtering, source and channel coding performing the operations of transmitter coding and receiver decoding. The two coding operations can be realized both separately and independently and in a strictly connected or "integrated" form. The analog transmission simulation includes the modulator, the transmitter pulse shaping filter, the communication channel, the receiving filter, and the demodulator. This section is very general, so that it allows the simulation of both analog and digital transmissions. Simulation results are presented regarding some combinations of the following techniques: predictive source coding, block codes able to correct random and burst errors, and modulation techniques such as AM,M-level PSK, FSK, and MSK. In particular, the paper presents the results of the analyses of an integrated source-channel coding applied to digital transmissions and of a system transmitting both voice and data for a VHF communication link between ground and aircraft for air traffic control applications.  相似文献
