How do construal levels affect the intertemporal choices of Internet addicts?

Although various studies have shown that construal levels affect intertemporal choices, how this specifically occurs in individuals with Internet addiction remains unknown. We aimed to examine how do construal levels affect the intertemporal choices of Internet addicts. This study employed a 2 × 2 experimental design to explore this issue in greater depth, with 55 Internet addicts and 55 healthy controls that were well matched in age and gender. Each participant experienced one of two construal level priming conditions (high versus low) before completing an intertemporal decision-making task. The results of the experiment revealed that construal level had an effect on the intertemporal choices of Internet addicts as well as healthy controls. However, the subjective values of the intertemporal choices of participants with Internet addiction were significantly lower. Additionally, the subjective values of intertemporal choices were significantly higher among participants who had been primed to have a high construal (i.e., more abstract) mindset as opposed to a low construal (i.e., more concrete) one. This result further affirmed the influence of construal level on intertemporal choice, regardless of whether individuals were addicted to the Internet. Although Internet addicts discounted delayed gains more steeply than did normal Internet users, both exhibited shortsightedness in the low construal level priming condition. These results suggest that Internet addicts as well as normal users are more long-sighted in high construal level priming condition. Implications of the current findings for long-term benefit planning or goal setting and the development of effective interventions are discussed.

Effects of the metacognitive computer-tool met.a.ware on the web search of laypersons

Today, laypersons often consult the Internet to inform themselves about health-related issues. However, the competent use of these often complex and heterogeneous information provisions cannot be taken for granted, because many Internet users are lacking the necessary metacognitive prerequisites. Therefore, we developed the metacognitive computer-tool met.a.ware, which supports laypersons’ Internet research for medical information by the means of metacognitive prompting and ontological classification. In an experimental investigation of met.a.ware a total of 118 participants with little medical knowledge were asked to conduct an Internet research on a medical topic. Participants were randomly assigned to four experimental groups that worked with met.a.ware and either received evaluation prompts, monitoring prompts, both types of prompts, or no prompts. All experimental conditions were additionally provided with ontological classification. One control group took paper and pencil notes. A further control group took notes using a blank text window. Results showed that laypersons receiving evaluation prompts outperformed controls in terms of knowledge about sources and produced more arguments commenting on the source of information in an essay task. In addition, laypersons receiving monitoring prompts acquired significantly more knowledge about facts, but did not perform better on a comprehension test than the controls. The availability of ontological categories helped to structure the notes laypersons in the conditions working with ontological classification took during Internet research. Analyses of the notes further demonstrated that the availability of ontological categories guided information search in direction of the selected categories. It is concluded, that met.a.ware is an effective tool that supports laypersons’ Internet research.

基于EI技术的嵌入式系统接入Internet解决方案

介绍了EI技术和基于EI技术的单片机接入以太网和Internet的解决方案,并研究了网卡驱动程序的编写和TCP/IP协议的精简.本设计硬件主要由P89C61X2BN和RTL8019AS组成,单片机P89C61X2BN作为控制器来控制RTL8019AS收发数据.软件设计主要由网卡驱动程序和嵌入式TCP/IP协议栈组成,来实现数据包的收发和处理.此方案不仅成本低,而且可以实现500Kbps以上的传速率,满足了嵌入式系统的Internet控制要求.     

基于Windows CE的远程图像采集与控制系统开发

该文基于传统的TCP/IP和GPRS,提出一种以ARM9为核心的嵌入式图像远程控制采集系统,并且引入Windows CE 5.0嵌入式操作系统,以满足用户易操作、成本低的要求。实验结果表明,本系统具有高实时性、多任务以及良好的人机界面和快速的开发周期等特点。通过Internet和GPRS,使得系统的适用性和控制范围大大增加,可以应用于物联网和智能家居等领域,具有较强的实用价值。     

Agent system for inter-AS routing error diagnosis

The basic unit of Internet routing is called an autonomous system, or AS, defined as a set of routers under a single technical administration. The Internet currently comprises more than 12,000 AS's. Some are university or corporate networks; others are ISP networks. Inside an AS, a single authority controls the deployment of policies and protocols by which routers compute intra-AS paths, including paths to gateway or border routers. For inter-AS routing, the situation is more complicated. Most AS's manage the exchange of routing information through the Internet Engineering Task Force's border gateway protocol. BGP lets an AS advertise "reachability" information throughout the Internet by sending update information when network topology or routing policies change. BGP is a hop-by-hop protocol, which sends the information only to a gateway router's immediate neighbors. At NTT Network Innovation Laboratories, we have developed and are currently testing a multiagent-based system called Encore to automatically diagnose inter-AS routing problems. We briefly describe the problem addressed by the system, its design and current implementation, and recent test results
