福建省人力资源与物质资源替代性思考

采用福建省1978～2008年人力资本、劳动力及物质资本数据,通过建立两要素常替代弹性生产函数模型,分析了人力资源数量与质量在经济发展中的作用及其对物质资源的替代性,认为人力资源质量对物质资源的替代性要低于其数量对物质资源的替代性.福建省的经济发展需要转变到依靠人力资本投入而不是物质资本投入上来.     

Unattended words need to be primed to be recognized

The categorical relation between a target word and a flanking, to-be-ignored, nontarget word can influence target response. Although usually taken as evidence of a full and automatic analysis of stimuli whether or not they have been attended, this flanker effect may only point to the failure of focused attention when nontarget stimuli have been primed and made task-relevant. The present study examined the role of priming in the flanker task. In one condition, schematic and semantic priming of nontargets was potentiated by having subjects categorize the target as an instance of a living or nonliving thing. In a second condition, priming was minimized by requiring only a shallow analysis of the target for a response; subjects searched the target for the presence of the letter R. A flanker effect was found only in the categorization condition, and then only when the target was the name of an animal. There was no evidence that unattended nontargets had been fully and automatically encoded to a semantic level.

Resource Management in Construction

Resource plannirtg and management is one of the most important ingredients for competitiveness and profitability in today's construction industry. In order to control costs, equipment and labor should be utilized in the most efficient way possible. This can be achieved by minimizing the total cost of leased resources under the constraint of maximum and most efficient use of owned equipment and contracted labor force. This paper presents a mixed‐integer linear programming model for the management of resources throughout the project life. Based on the Critical Path Method time analysis, the model derives the schedule for equipment rentals and transient resources, as well as the utilization scheme for owned equipment and other available resources. The model can be used as an estimating tool for multi‐project resource planning and sharing, and as a means to implement the most efficient utilization of resources throughout the duration of the whole project.

Quality substance abuse education--To be or not to be?

Argues that if the quality of substance abuse education is to improve by the year 2000, several things must happen: (1) Psychologists working in the field of addictions must take a stand on addictions and make it clear to the public and to politicians; (2) graduate departments must hire full-time faculty who are addiction specialists, create addiction courses and degree programs, and ensure that all psychology students get at least a minimum of training in the field of addiction; and (3) state licensure requirements for psychologists should require some training in substance abuse. Resource Sharing in Linear Construction

In the method developed, the conventional method of allocating resources are not used. Instead, resource‐hour units are employed. This enables to allocate resources precisely and the analysis becomes realistic unlike any other method. The method uses linear programming to determine the maximum rate of construction and the resource requirements in various activities. Sharing of resources which are available in limited quantities and balanced trades are all catered for in this development. The economics of using additional resources, working overtime and the optimal usage of all resources are the more important aspects of this paper. The step by step process of introducing additional resources and overtime ease the decision making process considerably. The method also helps to determine whether it is more economical to invest in additional resources or introduce work on overtime. If there is no proper method to compute resource requirements, a considerable waste in resource utilization would result. If resources are under utilized, even by a very small quantity, a considerably large delay of time would incur.

Risk Evaluation in Resource Allocation

Conventional resource allocation procedures implicitly assume that the availability of resources is certain. In real life situations, their availability is, at times, uncertain. A Risk Evaluation Model (REM) is proposed to systematically evaluate the uncertainty of resource availability and generate several alternatives having varying project completion time, cost, and performance probability. REM can aid a contractor in “bid∕no‐bid” decision‐making, an entrepreneur in investment decision‐making, and a consultancy organization in corporate planning.     

The Civil Engineering Resource Library

The delivery of civil engineering projects requires civil engineers to address a broad spectrum of issues generated by both project participants and regulatory agencies. Providing tools that assist team members in addressing these issues through the use of information and knowledge from previous projects may reduce project errors by creating informed decision makers. Recent advances in communications and computer technologies provide the opportunity to enhance professional and student access to these resources. The Civil Engineering Resource Library research effort explores this opportunity by combining an introduction to civil engineering processes with emerging web-based technologies for an electronic classroom supplement. The electronic library uses case studies to provide students with illustrations of emerging civil engineering practices and regulatory compliance strategies.

Principles of Probabilistic Regional Mineral Resource Estimation

Five principal sources of uncertainty in quantitative mineral resource estimation are listed and illustrated by means of a simple example(mosaic model)and a case history study for large copper deposits in the Abitibi area of the Canadian Shield.Abitibi copper potential originally was esstimated on the basis of 1968 estimates of production and reserves totalling 3.12 Mt Cu.This prognostication now could be evaluated on the basis of 2008 copper production and reaerves totalling 9.50 Mt Cu.An earlier hindsight study performed on the basis of 1977 data(totalling 5.23 Mt Cu)showed seven new discoveries occurring eitherin the immediate vicinities of known deposits or on broad regional copper anomalies predicted from the 1968 inputs.By 1977,the global geographic distribution pattern of large topper deposits in the Abitibi area had stabilized.During the next 30 years,new copper was essentially found close to emsting deposits,much of it deeper down in the Earth'S crust,In this paper,uncertaintiea associated with copper ore tonnage are analyzed by comparison of 2008 data with 1968 data using(a)log-log plots of size versus rank,and(b)lognormal QQ-plots.Straight lines fitted by least squares on these plots show that 1968 slopes pro vide good estimates of 2008 slopes but 1968 intercepts are much less than 2008 intercepts.In each linear log-weight versus logrank plot,the slope is related to fractaI dimension of a Pareto frequency distribution,and in a lognormal QQ-plot it is deter mined by logarithmic variance The difference between 2008 and 1968 intercepts represents the increase in copper ore produc tion and reserves from 1968 to 2008.The Pareto model fits actual copper and massive sulphides increase over the past 40 yearsbetter than the lognormal frequency distribution model for 10 km×10 km cells on favorable environments in the Abitibi area.
