In this paper, we combine fiber delay lines (FDL) and optical wavelength conversion (OWC) as the solution for the burst contention problem in optical burst switching (OBS). We present a placement algorithm, k-WDS, for the sparse placement of FDLs at a set of selected nodes in the network. The algorithm can handle both uniform and non-uniform traffic patterns. Our extensive performance tests show that k-WDS provides more efficient placement of optical fiber delay lines than the well-known approach of placing the resources at nodes with the highest experienced burst loss. Performance results are also given to compare the benefit of using FDLs alone, OWCs alone, as well as a mixture of both FDLs and OWCs. A new algorithm, A-WDS, for the placement of an arbitrary numbers of FDLs and OWCs is presented and evaluated under different uniform and non-uniform traffic loads using network simulation of the NSFNET topology and randomly generated graphs. The paper is concluded by presenting the design of a cost-effective optical switch equipped with variable-delay FDL bank. Based on the switch design, a scheme to provide differentiated services for multiple classes of traffic is presented and evaluated. 相似文献

We integrated a μ-heater array with a multi-wavelength laser array for accurate control of the channel spacing. A μ-heater array was formed on a 4-channel laser array with asymmetric sampled gratings. The lasers showed threshold current of 9-13 mA and slope efficiency of around 0.21 W/A. High side mode suppression ratio over 44 dB was observed as well. With the μ-heaters, all the laser wavelengths were precisely controlled simultaneously. The laser wavelength was red shifted with the μ-heater and the tuning efficiency was 3.3 nm/W. However, thermal crosstalk between neighboring channels was observed and it was measured to be 1.1 nm/W. 相似文献

We propose a fault localization method for wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON). A proof-of-concept experiment was demonstrated by utilizing the wavelength tunable chaotic laser generated from an erbium-doped fiber ring laser with a manual tunable fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) filter. The range of the chaotic lasing wavelength can cover the C-band. Basing on the TFBG filter, we can adjust the wavelength of the chaotic laser to match the WDM-PON channel with identical wavelength. We determined the fault location by calculating the cross-correlation between the reference and return signals. Analysis of the characteristics of the wavelength tunable chaotic laser showed that the breakpoint, the loose connector, and the mismatch connector could be precisely located. A dynamic range of approximately 23.8 dB and a spatial resolution of 4 cm, which was independent of the measuring range, were obtained. 相似文献

This paper presents a scalable and costeffective hybrid time division multiplexing (TDM)/wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical network (PON), in which reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) are used as optical network units (ONUs) and a shared tunable laser and photoreceiver stack locate at the optical line terminal (OLT). Especially,tunable transmitters are not only shared by all ONUs, but also used for both upstream and downstream transmissions. To solve resource contention problem and provide and the ONUs, two novel algorithms are proposed to manipulate the wavelength accessibility and the burst scheduling. Dispersive optics quantum key distribution (DO-QKD) based on energy-time entangled photon pairs is an important QKD scheme. In DO-QKD, the arrival time of photons is used in key generation and security analysis, which would be greatly affected by fiber dispersion. In this work, we established a theoretical model of the entanglement-based DO-QKD system, considering the protocol, physical processes (such as fiber transmission and single-photon detection), and the analysis of security tests. Based on this theoretical model, we investigate the influence of chromatic dispersion introduced by transmission fibers on the performance of DO-QKD. By analyzing the benefits and costs of dispersion compensation, the system performance under G.652 and G.655 optical fibers are shown, respectively. The results show that dispersion compensation is unnecessary for DO-QKD systems in campus networks and even metro networks. Whereas, it is still required in DO-QKD systems with longer fiber transmission distances. 相似文献

In order to alleviate the influence of atmospheric turbulence on the performance of satellite-to-ground laser communication system,based on the M-distribution atmospheric channel model,a multi-carrier coherent orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation system was proposed for uplink and downlink in the satellite-to-ground laser communication.The closed-form expression of bit error rate (BER) of coherent OFDM modulation system was derived.The relationship between the zenith angle,receiving aperture,signal-to-noise ratio (SNR),optimal beam divergence angle,and optimal transmission radius and the BER were studied under weak,and strong atmosphere turbulence,and compared with binary coherent differential phase shift keying (DPSK) modulation.Both the theory and the simulation results show that compared with coherent DPSK modulation,the bit error performance of the coherent OFDM modulation system in the satellite-to-ground laser communication system is better. 相似文献
