The tribology of magnetic recording systems is different to conventional tribology in many important aspects and an understanding of this branch of the science is still in its infancy. This paper presents a review of one specific aspect of the tribology of flexible tape storage systems, that is wear of heads and media and the effect on signal performance. Based on the work of this author's group and others and with reference to classical tribological principles, the various mechanisms of wear have been identified in particulate media, metal evaporated media and various recording head types and have been discussed in terms of the effect of signal degradation and error or drop out production. From this review, the wear mechanisms and surface and subsurface parameters which should have the most influence on the future development of media and systems are identified.  相似文献

This paper reviews the use of Raman spectroscopy for investigations in polymer tribology. In particular, a number of studies dealing with the problem of surface plasticisation in engineering polymers have been reported and are reviewed in this paper. Solvent and thermally-induced plasticisation have been examined using Raman spectroscopy. The polymers poly(ether ether ketone), nylon and polycarbonate have been investigated and are discussed here.  相似文献

A good molecular level understanding of the tribological properties of the materials at the slider-disk interface is essential to the future development of disk drive technology. This paper provides a short overview of the molecular tribology of disk drives related to the selection of lubricant materials for the slider-disk interface. Besides providing criteria for lubricant selection, this paper briefly discusses our current understanding of stiction and friction forces, lubricant degradation, lubricant mobility, spin-off, and lubricant transfer to sliders. 论述了摩擦学与设备维修管理的系统关系,介绍了开发基于摩擦学的设备维修管理系统的三大步骤,提出并实践了基于摩擦这的设备维修管理思想,开发了基于摩擦学的设备状态识别系统,构造了用摩擦学系统状态参数修正的设备大修周期仿真模型,以机车柴油机为例,进行了不同时期设备状态等级确定,设备大修周期仿真,实例表明基于摩擦学的设备维修管理系统是可行的。  相似文献

The use of self-lubricating polymers and polymer composites in space is somewhat limited at present. In general, they are only used when other methods are inadequate. There is potential, however, for these materials to make a significant impact on future space missions, if properly utilized. This paper surveys some of the different polymers and fillers used to make self-lubricating composites. It delves into the mechanisms of composite lubrication and wear, the theory behind transfer film lubricating mechanisms, and some factors which affect polymer composite wear and transfer. In addition, some of the current space tribology application areas for self-lubricating polymer composites and polymer transfer are mentioned.  相似文献

In this paper, we reported the tribological behaviors of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) containing copper hydroxide nanoparticles, polymer films were prepared by the sequential adsorption Poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) alternately on substrate. The nucleation of copper hydroxide nanoparticles was achieved using a cyclical absorption-hydrolysis process in which copper ions were absorbed into the polymer matrix (which bind to the sulfonate groups) and then hydrolysis in an alkali solution. The structure and the morphology of before and after the in-situ synthesis copper hydroxide nanoparticles in the PEMs matrix have been explored. The coefficient of friction as a function of sliding velocity and normal load also has been studied. The composites exhibited increased wear resistance compared with the pristine polymer films. This may partly be attributed to the enhanced load-carrying capacity of the inorganic nanoparticles in the PEMs. Dr. Pingyu Zhang, Professor of Laboratory for Special Functional Materials, Henan University. He received his Ph. D. in physical chemistry from Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He worked on tribological study in State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences 1983 to 2003. After that he was engaged as a special visiting professor of Henan University. His main research interest is in study on tribology of ultrathin films of ordered assembling systems, tribology of coatings and Micro-nanotribology. And he has authored and co-authored over 40 journal articles in Langmuir, Thin Solid Films, and Wear etc.  相似文献

In this paper is described the role of molecular simulation as a useful quasi-‘experimental’ tool to help in understanding the interplay between molecular structure under shear flow and the manifested tribology/rheology. The development of non-equilibrium molecular simulation techniques are discussed, from the molecular dynamics approach through to the modelling of dispersions by brownian dynamics. Recent advances and extensions of the technique to weakly flocculated systems, such as electro-rheological fluids, are described.  相似文献

本文提出圆柱凸轮间歇运动机构运转的可靠性与该机构的摩擦学特性有关,并地其进行深入的摩擦学分析,分析表明,该机构圆凸轮和从动滚子表面间的摩擦是在表面接触疲劳情况下的滚滑摩擦;两表面间主要产生表面疲劳磨损,同时伴有粘附磨损,表面疲劳 损是该磨擦副损坏的主要原因;理论上两表面间的润滑状态是同时要考虑油膜动压效应和挤压效应的非稳态弹流润滑,但实际工作过程中,民会有边界润或部分流体润滑状态存在。  相似文献

Abstract

The gap between academic science/engineering and industry concerning problem solving competencies is addressed in this paper by proposing the New Asian Case Method, an approach inspired by, but substantially different from, the trademark of professional education of the Harvard Business School. The paper puts forward the idea that knowledge in tribology shall be arranged in cases with practical examples that allow students and researchers to learn tribology on real world problems, and obtain a toolbox they subsequently use in their work as tribologists in academia or industry. Micro- and nanotribology are accentuated as high potential role model fields for successful interdisciplinary, inherently application oriented approaches. The New Asian Case Method increases quality approaches in tribology, by structuring the ways of thinking and addressing problems. Establishing the New Asian Case Method in tribology shall set the basis for an international standard in the field.  相似文献

The new quantitative elastohydrodynamics has resulted in rapid advances in understanding concentrated contact lubrication behaviour by employing real transport properties. A key component of this revolution has been the use of reference liquids. In this paper, two liquids, a triester and a perfluoropolyether, which are under consideration as possible viscosity standards are characterised to 1 GPa for conditions relevant to tribology. Two correlations are provided for interpolation and data smoothing, and an explanation for difficulties encountered with free volume theory is offered. The belt-driven data tape cartridge uses an elastic drive-belt to control magnetic tape tension by driving both tape supply and take-up reels. This design enables the use of a simple, compact and inexpensive cartridge drive mechanism. However, there were many tribological issues that had to be solved before this product reached its current widespread acceptance in the data storage market. This paper will address the associated friction and wear control issues. The main focus will be on polymer tribology and how attention to the micro-tribological details of each interface has been linked with improved data storage reliability and performance.  相似文献

An outline syllabus is presented for an integrated lecture course on tribology appropriate for the final year of an undergraduate honours degree scheme. It is suggested that in a course of about 24 lectures the subject can be treated in adequate breadth and depth to provide an understanding of tribology useful to the professional engineer, and to form a foundation for further study and reading. The educational merit of such a course is believed to be much greater than just the transmission of tribological information to the student, in that it illustrates important characteristics of many technological disciplines. It demonstrates amongst other things that not all theory is rigid and well proven, that sometimes gross assumptions must be made to permit any mathematical analysis to be carried out, that many unpredictable and varied factors affect component life, and that the understanding of a subject is continually being improved by research.  相似文献
